LackaDAISYcal · 15/03/2009 15:59

choco, I've always used newborn teats on bottles, regardless of the age of the baby. Main reason being that if you make it too easy for them to get the milk from the bottle, they might refuse the breast. However, if mixed feeding is established then changing teat size might not make a difference. Maybe ask in the feeding section?

Fin sits and smacks his lips too when we eat, but they have no concept of what food is for really, they are just trying to copy what you are doing.....which is why I have been trying to teach him to blow raspberries......we are nearly there

He did suck on my finger as I was eating some melon yesterday though and seemed pleasantly surprised by it!

ellielou02 · 15/03/2009 15:59

Hello
choco I have been using the avent med flow size 3 for about 6weeks
Will catch up later
Bye for now

LackaDAISYcal · 15/03/2009 16:00

and hello to Obs. We have a scrabble game on the go that is 17 days overdue at the minute...are you playing????

ellielou02 · 15/03/2009 16:02

LOL at Fin blowing raspberries Millie woke me up this morning blowing raspberrys

ChocOrange05 · 15/03/2009 19:04

I just used the size 3 on M for his feed and he spluttered a bit at first but then drank the rest fine. Do I assume that this means he wants/can have a bigger teat??

Daisy I have now started blowing raspberries at M - I can't wait to see if it works

M has had a taste of dried apricot, tomato, banana and carrot - all tiny tiny bits (half the size of a pea) and he has lapped them up. Although he is only 18 weeks I feel comfortable letting him try things he seems interested in (obv not bad things or wheat etc) - I want to do a combo of baby led weaning and puree-ing. Especially as I just spent £60 on a beaba babycook - thanks ceebee (I think??) for that link!

Just saw this t-shirt on eBay . Its a bit too big for normal weaning so I assume it means from the breast??

Hi ladies. Really sorry but cannot catch up on the posts since Wednesday (i think). REALLY SORRY. Hope I havent missed anything or not been around to offer support to any of you. daisy ok?
My quick summary ...
DS - first week of ONLY pants in the day. 3yrs in June and I have decided enough is enough of backwards and forwards with it. He did great, will a lot of reminders as dont think it is fully in his head yet and I also think he is a little lazy with it, UNTIL THIS WEEKEND. The bum troubles are back and he is pooing white?! Any ideas? He has also been complaining more that his legs are hurting and he has been off his food which is never a good sign. He has been laid out today and slept during the day which hasnt happened in a long time. In terms of his behaviour we had a couple of very shitty mornings where he would scream and cry hysterically over nothing. AFter trying everything I was a bad mummy and started getting upset (angry and crying). I wonder if a little of it was him feeling ill. The most heart breaking thing for me was when I talked to DH and he said "i wont like this but he thinks DS is scared of me". It has really upset me but I think he is right. So been trying to calm it when I do get angry (dont contact social services I'm not that bad).
A - Is a greedy little madam and has started waking earlier for her middle of the night feed. She currently drains her 7oz 2nd stage hungry baby formula in 15mins and is hungry after only a couple of hours! She is 18wks on Tuesday and I keep thinking about weaning but not sure.
ME - exhausted for so many of the usual reasons such as kids, house stuff and DH (not in the good way ). Had night out saturday with DH and friends for a friend b'day. Mum had both kids overnight. Was lovely . But was up at 9am today to bake a b'day cake for mum (packet one) and start a full surprise sunday dinner with dessert. Kids in bed now and I'm just sat here not knowing what to do with myself but refuse to go to bed.

vbhab - pooing white - i would get ds checked over just to be on the safe side as white poo can mean something not quite right-. I have been doing a fair bit of poo research these past days with minirosa...who did another mega green one . I now have to collct some of her poo and take it to be checked. Anybody ideas on how??? ... It can't be in the nappy I have to get it off . Thing is hers is so liquid it soaks in straight away ...ho humm not sure . I have until I get the container from the chemist in the morning - I was thinking about clingfilm over her bum to catch it ???????EEEk help .
Hana thanks for the info on the bee. I might take the plunge . I need it before I come to the UK as poor minirosa will be flapping over teh edge of her pram by then !

MonkeyMargot · 15/03/2009 20:10

Poor dozy hope she's OK?

hana hope little F has calmed down now. Is he teething maybe?

Ahh- loving all these raspberry blowers. Little Plum loves doing razzers too. And shrieking, really noisily - it's like she's just discovered her voice! (and it's really loud..!)

Choc saw one of my old chums for brunch today. She did BLW with her DD1, now 22 months, and boy, does this girl have fantastic eating habits now. Sat on big chair, ate mushroom, egg etc from plate with big fork. I was v.impressed! My friend said BLW had definitely made her get used to eating properly at the table. I will be doing this me-thinks. Plus, we are going to France for 2 months when Plum is exactly 6 months old - so ideal for us - no blending!
Aghh - just realised, I won't be able to MN for 2 MONTHS!! Nightmare!

Ceebee glad you had lovely day.
BTW - did you notice Burnley's result yesterday? . Playoffs here we come!

Lacks the ragout recipe I follow is from Delia's Autumn/Winter book. It takes a wee while to do, but is worth it. I always make a huge quantity, and freeze portions.

SausageRoleModel · 15/03/2009 20:27

hi all

dozy sorry to hear about your tonsil woes but glad you are back home again.

we are doing ok although the schedule went to pot a bit as we visited friends and stayed over. i stayed up too late, so am in bed with Wee T now for an early night.

vbab apparently white poo can be perfectly normal but can occasionally be a sign of liver upset/reaction to something like medicines - worth checking with doc?

Have bought a carton of formula but not tried it yet.DH is keen to as he doesnt like seeing me struggle with lack of sleep and as yet we dont seem any closer to sleeping through (the occasional 5 or 6 hr but no sign of this becoming consistent) and i am beginning to get quite strung out by it. The idea would be a supplement to breast milk at night to fill her up, but i would keep bfing and pumping if necessary to make sure my milk supply didnt go down. I would love to know What your opinions are on this - am i labouring under a false assumption that a formula feed will help us sleep through? has anyone else tried combining breast and bottle?

(this may all be a moot point as we currently still arent havibg much success with getting her to take a bottle - is she any more/less likely to take formula from a bottle than EBM?)

LackaDAISYcal · 15/03/2009 20:33

vbab, I think you need to get DS checked out. Very pale stools can be caused by anything from iron deficiency to liver problems. My immediate thought though from what you have said before and the pains in his legs is that it could be coeliac disease or some other sort of food intolerance which is causing absorption problems.

re his behaviour, if there is something going on with him healthwise, then it could all be linked?

and I really feel for you with your reaction to him and trying to keep a lid on your anger. When my depression was really bad, i wasn't exactly the best mum in the world and did a lot of shouting at DS1 and he witnessed a lot of shouting and arguments between DH and I that have had a lasting effect on him I'm ashamed to say . I'm not sure it was all that helpful of your DH to point this out to you though .

Anyhoo, I know that if I get angry at DS1 now, he visibly reacts to it and it makes me feel horrible inside, even though our family life is about 500x better than it sed to be. I really recommend the How to Talk book

LackaDAISYcal · 15/03/2009 20:42

sausage, there is no evidence out there to suggest that introducing a bottle of formula helps baby to sleep, although it is the case that it's harder to digest so may make baby feel fuller for longer and they might not wake...or it could just give them a tummy ache as they aren't used to it. And some babies just don't sleep through for ages, whether breast or bottle fed. My bottle fed DS and breast fed DD did, but bumble is an entirely different animal it would seem!! What has helped us is me having a side car cot so I can pull bumble into bed and feed him lying down next to me, so although he feeds two sometoimes three times a night, I snooze through it and put him back in his space when I wake up again and he is done. Sort of co-sleeping lite

It's unlikely that introducing a bottle of formula at this stage will affect your supply unduly, but if I were you I'd get some advice on the best way of introducing a bottle from a breast feeding counsellor before you start.

chocolategal · 15/03/2009 20:43

Hi everyone,
Just a very quick post as I am trying to get organised for a very early night!
sausage I have ff from when LO was 2 weeks old and there are no sleep throughs here! My friend who is bf LO has been sleeping through since 12 weeks, I think it's more to do with the baby than the type of feed.

Well my DH gave me my mothers day pressie today.........a gym membership! LOL! Although that sounds very cheeky it was the best present! I have been meaning to join again for weeks but grudge the £300, so no excuses now!

hana it seems a few of our LO's are a bit out of sorts just now, E has been screaming a lot this week and I am not used to it I didn't really know what to do!

Glad dozy is home

vbab78 · 15/03/2009 20:48

Thanks ladies. Definitely going to contact doctors tomorrow regarding DS white poo. Getting really worried about the whole thing now. It must be at least 3 months since DS been ok poo wise with the exception of 2 days recently. Just wish someone would say WTF it is so we could handle it and make DS better . Just feels like we are no closer to an answer and every trip to doctor is a waste of time.
lacks - thanks for advice re my behaviour with DS. I just love him so much and I get angry when I DO everything I can in a loving way to help and understand then but he just continues for HOURS. I feel very ashamed (crying at mo) as after DH said he thinks I scare DS I remember him jumping a couple of times when I was telling him off. I think DH was right to tell me as it has made me think.

LackaDAISYcal · 15/03/2009 21:08

vbaba, I think you need to urge your doc for a referral to a paediatrician since it has been going on this long.

I hope you get some answers soon.

bumble has finally crashed out here. he is still really upset and has been doing a lot of unfathomable cryoing today. We can't figure out whether it's his tummy, throat, teeth or ears....he has hardly slept all day though so must be shattered.

I'm off up to bed with him now for a wee cuddle though

PinkyMinxy · 15/03/2009 21:15

Vbab DS had a white poo phase last year. We took him to paediactrics and they did lots of bloodtests on him but he was fine. He also has phases of very large poos, which are also not a good sign, so we doo keep a check on him. I wuld take him to the docs and get a referral.

ChocOrange05 · 15/03/2009 22:15

sausage have you tried expressing so DH can do the 10pm feed so you can go to bed early?

OP posts:
ellielou02 · 15/03/2009 22:17

Hello everyone,

vbab Hope Ds is ok and good luck with the docs, you are not a bad mummy, just an exhausted mummy with alot going on, I notice that I tend to fly off the handle a bit at DD1 especially when DH is away and I am doing it all myself and just not feeling shit hot, and am really trying to change this, I think we all need a few days off on that desert island the a few of you were talking about earlier in the thread!!

Hope dozy is feeling better soon

Does anyone need spare chicco polly high chair straps?? I bought replacement straps for the highchair my friend gave me but as I was setting the chair up today I noticed the seat pads have small black spots through it too so will need a new highchair so the chair had to go it had obviously gone damp all the way through and gotten into the foam.

Daisy are you feeling better now? I hope so, did you have laprascopic? The pain is meant to go quite quickly after all the gas that they put in disperses think this can take a few days. Hope bumble feels better soon! Congrats on the tooth

rosa good luckk with your poo catching sorry no practical advice from me on it apart from leaving the nappy off and waiting but that could be a long messy day!

Alot of unsettled babies here M been quite grumpy this weekend too, hope they all settle down again.

ellielou02 · 15/03/2009 22:18

OOh choco just bought 3 itti bitti's I got medium do they fit well?

ChocOrange05 · 16/03/2009 08:07

They are LUSH ellie and they are super slim fitting too (for a reuseable). I LOVE mine. Only probs so far is slight dampness on the sides of the legs - but my boy has v skinny legs so I think thats why. Let me know what you think of them and how you get on. Also, I bought 6 nappies and 6 extra inserts as you can use the outer shell more than once if its not dirty.

OP posts:
coolkat · 16/03/2009 08:38

Ellie, I could use the Polly straps. How much? Mine are quite discoloured. If you let me know. X

I have had the worst night. Becca been really snuffily for over a fortnight and over the past few days coughing a little here and there but last night at 12.30 poor little mite could not stop coughing and retching. I nearly phoned NHS direct as I did not know what to do with her. DH was at work. Bad coughing for over an hour, propped her on cushions next to me. Then DD1 decided to put in an apperance. All up ridiculously early as well.

Should I take Becca to the doc's? She does not have a temp?

Sorry for me post. I am grumpy and tired and have an eye test so have to get ready to go out. x

Oblomov · 16/03/2009 08:42

SausageRoll, we too have been combining.
And there is no consistency.
I have been using bottles, alongside bf, since day 1, becasue of the tongue tied. I expressed at first. Then used a few formulas here and there.
Max sleeps through some nights from 7 to 7. Other nights we had one feed, some two feeds, at say 12 and 3.
If you are getting 5/6 hr stretches, that it still good for this age. And don't be under any illusion that formula will solve any problems.
Ds1(5) slept 7-7 with two feeds - 10pm and 2 am, from 2 weeks old. AT 9 weeks, he dropped a feed and was doing 7-7 with one feed at 10pm. At 13 weeks he slept thropugh 7-7 and has Never woken up since.
Ds2 has been a frggn nightmare. Moral of the story .... never compare children

Oblomov · 16/03/2009 08:44

Max is 6 months old.
Don't know why I am so shocked by this. But it IS a shock.
