MonkeyMargot · 10/03/2009 21:25

Welcome spagBol!! I had you last night! Dozy I challenge you to a ragu contest...I reckon my recipe is perfect now. I make it in huge batches, and freeze portions for 2. It has pork mince, beef mince, chicken livers and pancetta in it. Plus basil, red wine, tomatoes etc. It's deliciously meaty!!

sorry spagbol. As you can see, we talk about ALL SORTS here! Cooking, sha*ging , leaking, weeping etc. It's a good place to be.

Merry you poor sausage... take heart from pinky and think, this all will get better, very very soon!

Autumn Im not throwing anything. If your man J is thriving on eating some solids, good on him.
I must admit, I find weaning advice all v.confusing.
One of my NCT chums was advised by HV to wean v.early (4 months) as baby was so tiny (below 9th percentile). Yet others are advised to wean early if baby is a biggun (like mine - the Giant Plum is 17lb 6ounces at 16 weeks - that's my girl!).
I was starting to wonder whether my 16-week old's worsening sleep pattern was an indication of needing solids. But since reading Heartmums article (thanks!) I see that this is prob. due to developmental stuff going on behind the scenes.

To wean, or not to wean. Is that the question?

Dozymare · 10/03/2009 21:29

MM - not dissimilar - I grate carrots celery and onio0n as well...what are your quantities?? Do you use milk? I do...

chocolategal · 10/03/2009 21:40

Thank you choco

ellielou02 · 10/03/2009 21:40

Hi all,
Hello spagbol think we are having that for dinner tomorrow night if I actually remeber to take the meat of of the freezer
smiles Hope you DS op goes well next week and arent cars a nightmare when they need stuff done!!!
dozy and choc am intrigued about your "prada" dress please put a link up
Its been a lovely day here and once dd1 went to nursery I decided to hell with the housework and DD2 and I went out for a lovely walk, I signed DD1 up for gymnastics and asked about creche for DD2 if I was to use gym, they said I could book in there and then but I said I would phone them later, making excuses I think, well I had been for a walk .

MonkeyMargot · 10/03/2009 21:44

DozY I don't use milk - hmm - intriguing!
I use 1lb pork mince, 1lb beef mince, 200g pancetta, 150g chicken liver. 2 x cans chopped toms. Tom. puree, lots red wine. Lots shredded basil. Onions, garlic. No carrot!

Off to bed now - my dad is here but seems happy to keep drinking us out of house and home of whisky and ginger. DH is at a footie match in Southampton. Giant Plum zonked out.
Laters!

Hi everyone, once again I have failed miserably to catch up with how you are all doing. Amy now has 2 teeth!!!!!!! She will be 4 months old on Friday. DD1 only had 2 teeth on her first birthday!!!!

I am interested to see that thoughts have turned to weaning. I waited til 6 months with dd1 but have to admit I have already offered dd2 a tiny taste of baby rice. She is a bit young yet so going to leave it a few more weeks before I try again. I will be doing purees and will stick to rice, fruit and veg for quite a while as dd1 has allergies.

smilesattheweekend · 10/03/2009 22:23

Hi Suiledonn. Do you think weaning is different when you have already weaned one child? I have DS who is 5 now and I weaned him dead on 4 months (as we were advised way back then!) DD seems to be interested and I have held off. She started waking (after sleeping from 7 at night to 7.30 in the morning straight through since Christmas) for about a week, I thought when she started waking that she was in need of solids but also was sure it was a growth spurt as she was downing a 7oz bottle of hungry baby formula, she has gone back to her old sleeping pattern which is great. However, I have started to let her taste things, DH gave her a fingerful (ie finger dipped in food) of custard yesterday. I find that the start of weaning is just getting a little taste of things, I don't have a structured weaning plan, but will just let her taste suitable things as and when, she is also sitting up (aided) so I have got the old highchair down which is really supportive and she likes to sit at the table with us when we have dinner, she is really interested in the food and I put a few toys on her tray so she doesn't get bored - i think it is all about getting them involved in meal rather than just taking food. She seems to like it and I will let her set the pace. It didn't hurt DS being weaned at 4 months but times have changed and there is a lot to be said for mums instincts and working with your baby, I love this time, you find out more about their character, take it slow, don't rush and you will both be fine - best not to get stressed because of what XY and Z are doing although I am mindful of the most recent research on when is best - is this based on age or weight ? DD is a "good" size.

X

Lawks! can't believe in the time it took me to post on the last thread, the new one is up and running!! Anyway, as I am sooo desperate to boast about my highchair then I'm copying my last post over to this thread. Hope no-one minds!

Welcome to sami and spag. I'm fairly new to the thread too and I must say it is very friendly and welcoming smile

Oh goody, a chance to boast about a car boot sale bargain. < smug smile from fudge> We have a tripp trapp highchair with the baby set and it is really fab as you can pull the chair right up to the table so they can feel really included. Anyway, I got it when DS2 was a baby from our local car boot. Someone had used it to display clothes(!). I spotted it and tried to look blase as I said "oh, is that I highchair?" and the guy said "yeah, its £7" (cue drooling and hyperventilating from me) so I said "will you take £5?" and he said "yeah great" grin.

lacks hope you are not picking up a cold now, and are ok for Thursday. Well done on the pumping.
choco Love the title for next thread, very good thinking!

Hello to everyone else, let's hope we have good nights!

SausageRoleModel · 10/03/2009 23:55

hello all!

i am sure i will gorget half of what i wanted tp say but here goes

finger that was a blimmin' BARGAIN you lucky thing! we dont have a high chair yet but am hoping my mum will get us a tripp trapp as she did for my bro's LO last year (fingers x'd)

hana your dh is being weird. hope it is just minor. maybe he needs time in his mancave (shed/garage/retreat with headphones on)

choco thread title made oi larf

merry sorry you are feeling rough and hope you have a bit more peace tonight

lacks do you have to starve yourself tomoroow prior to surgery? i hope not, that would be insult to injury! after the op can you go back to normal diet and eat what you like?

spagbol and umi hello! and hi to the returners to the thread.

everyone i wanted to pass on 2 recommendations for things i am finding invaluable at the mo, one baby related, one not.

the baby one is red castle's fleecy swaddle wrap. www.cradleandall.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=1394. We were given one as a gift and she has hardly been out of it. tis versatile and has shaped legs so goes round buckles in car seats/prams. she is now growing out so we are replacing with next size up and may get cotton one not fleece as summer approaching.

other thing is spotify! www.spotify.com if you have broadband its like having itunes without ever having to dowload or pay for anything. you can search for any song/album/artist and it just streams the songs from its server. i have been getting Wee T by playing a lullaby album called "dream a little". anyway its putting me to sleep too. g'night!

LadyBuzz · 11/03/2009 08:11

Morning Ladies, Great title Choco

Good Luck for tomorrow Daisy

Oblomov · 11/03/2009 08:44

Love title Choc.
Congrats to Vbab on A sleeping through.
We too have had 3 consecutive sleep throughs , so that is good.

SausageRoleModel · 11/03/2009 09:18

oh you lucky sleeping through-ers! (well done though, I am just a teeny bit but very for you.

We have had 5 nights (seemingly randomly) where wee T went for 6 hours, but i cant find a pattern to when she achieved them and the last few nights its been 3am feeds which are exhausting (specially when you cant get back to sleep again before the 6.45 feed, which happened last night - yawn!). So today I am gina-ing! (bought book last year while PG and in complete naivety about who she was and the debates that raged!). Up til now have ignored it as wanted to feed on demand, but now trying to get a little discipline back into my life!

I'm convinced it will never work but I am willing to give it a go, re- regimenting feeding times a bit more. We had got into a routine of "snacking" but if I actually take care and time to give her both boobs then she is feeding at roughly four hourly intervals anyway at the moment, so I was kind of gina-ing anyway IYSWIM. (and the evening cluster feeds have receded for now thank god!)

So this morning we were up at 7am with larks (and daddy) then playgym then bath then 9am supposed sleep. So at 9am she is in her cot wailing - she's never gone to sleep by herself before and I thought - this is just NOT going to happen - Its only supposed to be a 45 min sleep anyway, and then at 0904 on the dot, silence!

Well ten minutes down and 35 to go. I am very about it, although I see that essentially she does lots of strong feeds in the day and doesn't let them sleep too long so that they are tired for bed and full by the time 7pm comes, so if it does work, I guess its no some pagan maternity nurse magic, but common sense put into a very rigid schedule. But I think for both of us a little more structure to our days now we are metaphorically six, will be no bad thing. Though will never be as rigid as she suggests - that's crazy talk!

Now watch me give up on the whole Gina shebang within days, if not hours!

Not sure whether a BF baby would manage her through the night anyway - I very mcuh doubt it and I ain't gonna start no formula yet just cos she says so!

LackaDAISYcal · 11/03/2009 09:32

good luck with gina sausage. take the bits you need and ignore the rest....we call it GF-lite around here

Just a quickie from me this morning, but I'll be back on this evening. I sent DH off to work with the battery pack for my laptop so that I can get stuff done in the house. Judgey pants MIL is looking after the DC tomorrow and I don't want her to think I'm slacking

can't remember who asked, but I'll be able to go back to eating normally (well as normally as coeliac disease allows) after the op. And, yes I'm nil by mouth after midnight tonight. Not sure how not even being allowed to drink will impact on the BFing though....off to start a thread in feeding.

have good days, and when I talk to you all later I will be tidied, dusted, hoovered, window cleaned, laundried and with a victoria sponge freshly baked and a happy husband greeted at the door with a gin and tonic and a kiss.

SausageRoleModel · 11/03/2009 09:40

LOL at giving him your battery pack! what restraint!!! Have a lovely houseworkey day!

ellielou02 · 11/03/2009 09:40

Good Morning!
Good Luck on the Gina-ing sausage I did it with dd1 although not as strict just as a sort of guide and was gonna do the same with dd2 but was half arsed about it but dd2 has found her own wee routine.
Well done on all the sleep throughs.
Good luck for tomorrow daisy hope your cold does not delay things.
Well I have just bought a jumperoo, DH is gonna go mad when he comes home but who cares
I thought I would put the link in as its the cheapest I have seen

Laugh at Sausage analysis of Hana's dh needing to go into his cave/shed/garage. Love it.
Laugh at Finger and her bargaining power. Were you 'born to barter' ?well impressed. Girl after my own heart.

God job I'm laughing at thread. Because in RL (laugh at someone not knowing what that was, at the end of the old thread), I have been crying. Don't know why. And I REALLY shouted at ds1 this morning. Totally lost it.
Did huge post to MonkeyM yesterday. Then lost it. Summery was, sorry she was feeling down.Tiredness hits you, but what is actually hitting you now is from months ago. Some days I feel like I can take on the world. And some days I do achieve 50 things. Other days I struggle to just look after M. Bf, nappy changing and a bit of cuddling is all I can manage. I assume this is all normal and that I am not bi-polar or schizophrenic Anyway. Love to MonkeyM and anyone else eho needs a hug - I think MerryM does, eh ?

Oblomov · 11/03/2009 09:55

I am sat here writing a 'reasons to be happy' and 'reasons to be sad' list, in order to get things in perspective and make me feel better.
Is this kind of thing supposed to work ?

obs I feel like this sometimes so you are not alone, I think it is normal I spent months visiting a psychologist after I had DD1 only to be told that people have good days and bad. What is scary is that I was back at work when DD1 was 18 weeks. I shouted at dd1 last night but think its cos DH is away and I feel like she just pushes me to see how far she can go. This morning she said she wanted toast not cereal but I had already poured out the cereal (after her pleading with me yesterday to but this cereal) so I said she had to eat it as was not wasting it, so she came in and just knocked it off the table , she normally doesnt do this and I honestly dont think she meant to push it off the table. I feel like a fraud cos I feel so tired all the time as dd2 sleeps well but it must be as you say from months ago. Have you got someone you can go for a coffee with or something maybe for a chat? Its great to have support on here but sometimes we need contact will send you a hug
