Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
chilledmama · 31/03/2009 23:37

THOM- WHY would ou do that to me...now drooling and don't have ay eggs in!!!!!

The Independent Midwives website has just been updated and there's a pic on the front page of me and DS after he was born back in '06. Just in case you're not sure which pic...he's the alien and I'm grinning!

MrsY · 01/04/2009 04:02

But such a nice alien...

I will try to come. Spent to much over the weekend - I know other people's birthdays are generally expensive, but your own birthday shouldn't end up costing you should it!!

KT1983 · 01/04/2009 06:58

Morning everyone, hope your all ok and got some sleep last night

Poppy did well last night, put her to bed at 7.30pm, had a 12.30am & a 4.45m, now she is just beginning to stir again. Slowly but surely things seem to be settling down. I hope!

Dinky What company is it that you have your holiday booked through? I was thinking about looking for a place in france that deals for taking babies. Iv found one called Tots to france?

MS LOL at your DD, where do they get there imaginations from, it really makes me giggle

Wish I still lived in London as id be able to make the meet up this time, now im not working.
Are you going anywhere nice?

Pempe · 01/04/2009 08:34

typed a long post and it all vanished

hi everyone. will type again. hope you're all ok.

pinkbabyellie · 01/04/2009 08:36

Morning everyone, there is light out of this sleep deprivation as E slept from 10pm last night until 6am this morning . Now I know why she was feeding almost constantly from 5pm yesterday - she was filling herself up Unfortunately I still kept waking up to check she was still breathing, hey ho .
Can anyone tell a proper smile from a windy one? I have been getting them for a couple of weeks but assumed cos she is coming up for 6 weeks old now that they were wind but i'm sure it was a proper one this morning - how can you tell?
Hope everyone is ok and very of your meet up but living in Cornwall it's definately too far away

SomeMightSay · 01/04/2009 08:48

PT Ermmmmm.....lalalalalala
chilled Lovely
pbe A windy smile is more curled upwards and is longer across the face and tends to be with mouth more closed and a proper one will be mouth open wider, and you can normally see a new glint in their eyes (I've found). A windy smile will more often than not be at the same time as eyes rolling into the back of the head or just looking a bit uneven.

Right, we had a horrible night! Luke woke at 10:30 for feed but I stretched it to 10:50, then he wouldn't go back to sleep until 12:15, got into bed and ds1 woke at 1:30, I spent ages in his room and he was not happy so I told dp to get on the sofa so ds1 could come in with me but that didn't help, he was rolling around trying to talk to me until he fell asleep at 4am. In between that, Luke woke at 2:30 so I got bottle, by the time I got back into bedroom, he was asleep again so left him. He woke again at juat gone 3 so fed him and he wouldn't settle til 4:30, so, I AM WRECKED!!!!!!!
I'm taking Luke back to the docs and this time I am not leaving until they listen to what I have to say and do something t help him. I'm starting to think now that maybe it's not colic and maybe he does have some sort of allergy because he is bad after every feed, don't remember ds1 being like this.......About to look up some info on MrsY's formula so will be better informed myself.
What is the world coming to when we have to make self diagnosis at home on-lined? Fucking shocking is what it is

SomeMightSay · 01/04/2009 09:09

Just called hv's and no one there until monday. Arrggghhhhhhh

Pempe · 01/04/2009 09:28

Hello everyone, been a long time since I've been able to get on MN - I was in Athens for a while, then my sister came to stay for a week, she's just left for the airport. Brilliant having her here, lots of lovely walks etc and now back to just the 2 of us. Makes me feel very very far away from home when the visits are over .

Anyway, Harry is ok, we are muddling through from day to day still without any real semblance of a routine. He goes to bed at about 8.45pm, then wakes at 1ish, 4ish and 7ish for feeds (BF). Does that sound like anyone else? Day time is a free for all with 20 minute naps and feeding whenever he wants. In fact, the only way to get him to sleep for longer than half an hour in the day is to take him out in the car or the pram, which is not so conducive to me napping too...!

We're off to the hospital for another kidney scan tomorrow, which I'm nervous about. The possible outcomes are (a) all fine (b) anti-b's for the next few years (!!) or (c) surgery. Also decided to switch paediatricians as our current one is a complete arse. Hopefully the new one won't make me cry by telling me Harry is feeding too much and putting on too much weight (she didn't understand the concept of growth spurt....).

I hope you and all your babies are ok. I have to admit, the tiredness is starting to catch up with me a bit again - can't wait for him to go a bit longer between night feeds - but the smiles and giggles make it all worth it, don't they? Harry won't settle in his crib in the day for some reason, only naps in his bouncy chair normally, and at the moment he's next to me on the settee in the office looking sleepy . Better get on and do some chores before his next feed (could be any time from 10 mins to 2 hours away......)

PinkTulips · 01/04/2009 10:17

dear god... just had a horrible moment!

ordered some pants online which arrived today, had other pant from the brand and i'm a 30 in all of them, still fit fine but are shredded from overwar so i happily went and ordered 2 more size 30.

they came a few minutes ago and i ran to try them on... first pair wouldn't button almost cried thinking 'how the hell did i put on weight in the last week?!'

luckily before i curled up in a ball and cried i checked the label and the idiots sent me a size 28 instead.... i've neer been so happy to get the wrong order! other pair are the right size and are gorgeous on so i'm off to write a hormonal email to them now to get the others changed

pempe... glad you've changed paediatrician, that other one sounded like a complete tool. hope the new one is better, good luck with the scan.

pinkbabyellie... sms has it spot on, with a real smile they smile with their eyes too and are usually focused on your face or something else like a toy... with wind it's just the moth and they're rarely looking at anything in paticular.

chilled... they all look like aliens in those first moments.... i'm amazed at how bloody good you look though right after giving birth

Beantin · 01/04/2009 10:32

Pempe - sounds like you are having similar time to me. Feeding times in the night are the same. Luc is a bit all over the place with feeding and sleeping at the mo, but think it's a combo of growth spurts and changes in his patterns.

PBE - IME - from wee siblings, rather than just DS at 6 weeks - a windy smile goes up at one side and they tend to look drunk. The first time DS gave a real smile last week, I didn't get too excited as wasn't sure but now I get one about once a day and it is at a time when he's not usually windy and when we are having playtime.

Dinky - sending you some peace and quiet, you poor thing.

MrsY - I also got a few toiletries with words like 'illuminating' and 'collagen'.....jealous of your BW trip. I looked at the spa as in desp need of a shoulder massage, but it's quite expensive. Mind you, PIL gave me some cash, so maybe....

Best birthday pressie would've been a reasonable night's sleep....but that didn't happen, again Trying to get a doc's appt but they are harder to find than willy wonka's golden tickets.

Best birthday pressie was I guess one from DH - cos at least he remembered to get something and wrap it up

However, PIL also gave me a photo of Chris Evans signing a birthday card for me at his opening of Wellworths - we share the same birthday and I always enjoyed listening to him on the radio on the way home from work. He has a fortnight's holiday with his new son - am v jealous! Phil Schofield's birthday today too.....

Beantin · 01/04/2009 10:56

DS's flaky scalp - leave? olive oil? something else?

mumoverseas · 01/04/2009 11:02

afternoon all (well its my afternoon)
just back from a manic shopping trip with DD1 and DS2 whilst little witch at nursery. Its always such a rush as shops only open around 9.30 to 9.45am then start to shut at around 11.30 to 11.45am for prayer and then don't open again til around 4pm.

dinky sorry about all your noise. The place you go in France sounds lovely, you will have to give me details. we are off to France for the first time this summer so DS can practice his french before he starts A level french in September

Pempe, hope all goes well with the scan

MrsY, I'm aiming on getting Harrison baptised at the beginning of July when we are back in the UK. Luckily the priest at my mums church is pretty good and will agree to baptise even though we hardly ever go (assuming she is out of hospital by then - its been 7 weeks now ) We can't afford to hang around too long before dunking him or the christening gown that has been in the family for around 60 years won't fit! DD was 8 months when she was done and it was a tight squeeze! Just need to decide on godparents which is never an easy one

rosieposey · 01/04/2009 12:06

Happy birthday Beantin and Pluto

Pempe good luck with the scan today - sorry to hear your up at night alot still too, its knackering isn't it? Good job you changed Peads too, as PT put it so eloquently he does sound like a complete tool!

Beantin is it cradle cap or just flaky scalp? Id probably just leave it but if its bothering you olive oil is nice to use.

A question for anyone thats been to the location that has been decided for the meet on Tuesday. My girls want to come with me for a day out and its going to be cost prohibitive if we all took the train - i looked at directions and it will take the same amount of time to drive as it would to take the train so was wondering who had been there before and if there was a car park within a 10 minute walk that anyone knows of? It sounds lovely there and i think that the girls would enjoy it not to mention i would love to meet everyones beautiful babies

I have a night out in London this Saturday, am wetting the babys head so to speak with some uni friends and its the first time i am leaving Milo with his dad and sisters, am really looking forward to a night out and the chance to get all dressed up and quaff cocktails but i am really dreading being away from him for the night. I told DH to be prepared for me to be back very early on Sunday!

thehouseofmirth · 01/04/2009 12:26

Rosie not sure about availability of on street metered parking but theses are the nearest NCP car parks.

Brunswick Square NCP - 4 mins / NW
Judd Street NCP - 6 mins / NW
Russell Court NCP - 6 mins / W
Bloomsbury Square Car Park - 9 mins / SW
Bowling Green Lane NCP - 12 mins / NE

Be warned though it can cost £5-£8 per hour. Though still cheaper than the train I suppose.

MarkStretch · 01/04/2009 12:33

Please be upstanding for the fattest baby in the world! Frank! Weighing in at 13lb 5oz!

I took him for his injections today and our 8 week check. I undressed him and the Dr said 'My, he's a BIG BOY'. I can't believe the rate at which he's piling it on. Poor thing has needles stuck in him and looked at me with this face and then screamed and wailed.

I've just resorted to some calpol as he was squirming and crying and he's fallen asleep.

God I hate that stupid injections malarky.

My mum is back from France- hooray! And will be coming to see us on Friday, I've missed her.

Only 6 days until the meet-up woooooohoooooo!

rosieposey · 01/04/2009 12:40

Thanks HOM - was anticipating about £15-£20 for parking - i just had a look online as well and there are a couple of hotels in the Russell square vicinity that do parking too and seem a little cheaper than the NCP.

I think its a much better idea than getting the train as currently its about £48.00 return for an adult so for all four of us it would be soooo expensive.

I think my two younger girls would really enjoy themselves as they love animals and my older one just wants an excuse to go to London for the day, will possibly have to fit in a tiny bit of shopping for her in the latter part of the afternoon.

Am off to the ante natal clinic this afternoon - last appt with diabetes consultant and i guess he will tell me where to go from here. It will be weird sitting in amongst all those pregnant women again, bless

rosieposey · 01/04/2009 12:47

Aww MS its Milo's turn next week Its horrible isnt it? Im making DH come home early ( he's got some flexitime) as the appointment is late afternoon because i hated holding my babies whilst they were being injected so im getting him to do it Oh i hate it too!

Beantin · 01/04/2009 13:15

My docs are v rubbish....we're not getting a 6 week check-up, just an 8 week, but no one can tell me if will get injections at same appt. What can I do to prepare? Tell me about this Calpol usage all you experienced mummies!

Was banking on my chance to relax over lunch as usually when DS sleeps for 2 hrs......he woke up after 30 mins, howled for 20, then demanded to be fed, only 2 hrs after last feed.....

rosieposey · 01/04/2009 13:21

Beantin mine is a 8 week checkup too. Milo has his injections at the same time - HV said that they did that now because alot of ladies werent turning up for their 6 week check up but only for their babies jabs two weeks later so they decided to put them together.

Calpol if your bubs seems a bit fractious or gets a little temperature, its half a spoonful if i remember rightly - but the dosage instructions are on the pack as i think you can go to one if you really need to.

SomeMightSay · 01/04/2009 13:45

Beantin Whe ds1 got flaky scalp, the nurse on children's ward at hospital (he was admitted because he had a strwberry birthmark on his head that kept exploding, was awful. I have a picture of him covered in blood!), anyway, she said olive oil and a gentle rub with the baby comb, sounds a bit brutal I know, but I just use cotton wool and wipe it over affected areas a few times a week.
MS Fantastic weight gain. I love big babies!! Luke has put on alot but still looks tiny. He doesn't have the porker legs that I like. Can't wait to see Frankie (and all the other babies )
Beantin I normally give a dose of Calpol ablout an hour before injections so it has time to kick in, as can take a while to work. I know that means 'medicating' a small baby without knowing if completely needed, but it's what I'm happy with. If you decide to do that, just make sure Luc is otherwise well as it may bring down a temp that is not connected to jabs iyswim. My lo didn't have any calpol yesterday as I didn't have any in the house until shopping after docs, but he seemed fine anyway. That said, my ds1 was fine with forst set, it was the 2nd, 3rd and 4th that he was awful, so I'll be giving Luke the Clpol before the next ones in 4 weeks time.

SomeMightSay · 01/04/2009 13:46

Have put ds1 down for a nap. I put my pillow under his mattress and have put loasds of vapour rub on him, but I can hear him whinging. I'm not going in there, I'm really not.

thehouseofmirth · 01/04/2009 13:50

How are you all playing with your babies? Poor DS2 is being quite neglected compared the the attention I lavished on DS1 at this stage. I am soo busy and on automatic pilot so much of the time I just can't think what I can do with him. I do generally subscribe to the benign neglect school of parenting and know he needs little structured play but I do feel I need to do something with him.

Beantin · 01/04/2009 13:53

SMS holds your hands to keep you outta there...dances manically to distract you...

Beantin · 01/04/2009 13:56

No idea how much Luc weighs as couldn't be bothered to wait in for HV this week to come weigh him.

Will weigh me then weigh us to see as now am curious. He was taking a while to pick up his birth weight but does now have chubby thighs.

No idea what he should weigh though goes in search of red book to see what all this 50th, 98th stuff is you're all talking about

He poos several times a day so problee depends when I weigh us as may just be poo he's waiting to expel

SomeMightSay · 01/04/2009 13:58

thom Exactly the same here! It's hard because for me, in order to have time with Luke, I have to keep ds1 occupied as he still isn't too good at the three of us being 'together' iykwim.
It's hard 'playing' with Luke because if he's awake, he's crying, but when ds1 naps, if Luke's awake, I give him some belly time on the floor and lay some rattles around and alternate shaking them to encourage head movement. Sometimes I read him my book as only chance I get to read! and other times is just trying to comfort him. I don't think that we can lavish as much attention on dc's 2, 3, 4 and so on as we did with 1 no matter how hard we try.
How old id he now?
Luke, when he isn't screaming seems happy to just watch ds1, but that isn't often......
Should I do housework? Try to have an hours slepp while they both are asleep? or just sit on here watching JK?
