Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SomeMightSay · 21/03/2009 09:42

I have fed Luke every 2 hours since 5am. 4ish oz. Surel that's too much, but he won't stop crying!! I've done the whole 'circle ogf care' and as far as I can tell there's nothing wrong with him, not too cold or too hot, clothes aren't too tight or small or twisted, fresh nappy, hugged, winded, I gave a bit of water, nothing worked so had to feed him. Now I know about growth spurts at 6 weeks but 12oz of milk over 6 hours is just alot. Isn't it?
And to make matters worse, ds1 is at it too! They're gonna gang up on me like this forever aren't they? Nevermind. I'm ok though, I'm calm and relaxed so must be fully out of my bad stage, thank God.
Going into town today. Luke didn't like the bouncy chair I got him with the activity bar so am going to get an activity bar that can be used in his normal bouncer.
Take advantage of today, the bad weather will be back tomoz.
Have a good day

MarkStretch · 21/03/2009 10:34

It's my turn to be utterly fucked off with my DH today.

lardybump · 21/03/2009 12:18

I am also fucked off with dp. I have been so ill and before that was looking after an ill dd and ill ds. It is dd's second birthday tomorrow and we were going shopping to get her a prezzie today but he stayed up till 3 getting pissed and so wont go!!!! I have D&V and if I want dd to have a gift on her birthday I have to go and get it!!!! Fucking wanker.... sorry

PinkTulips · 21/03/2009 12:19

oh dear.

[fetches tea and biscuits]

what's he done?

PinkTulips · 21/03/2009 12:25

well on the plus side my wanker dp has been making a huge effort and is actually acting like a nice human being.... how long it lasts is the question.

poor you lardy, any chance you could pretend her birthday is next week when you're feeling better? she's so little she won't know and you need to be able to enjoy it too. sending your dh a massive virtual kick up the arse for you

btw, QK.... tried aaron in the blanket nest last night and he stayed in his crib til 3.15am... unprecedented for him! thanks for posting about it

mumoverseas · 21/03/2009 13:54

afternoon all,
not been on for a few days and its taken ages to catch up. Hope everyone with all the nasty bugs is feeling better and all the unlucky ones with lazy arse DH's are kicking arse.

QK glad Alexander is out of hospital but horrified about his fingers. Some doctors are twats. Hope they are healing ok now.

lardy hope you feel better soon and manage to get something for your DD. Sending hugs from KSA and hope she has a lovely day tomorrow and hope that you manage to pass on your bug to your DP

MS,what has your DH done?

Mine is very up and down at the moment. Poor little love is getting very tired apparently Managed around 2 1/2 hour x 2 last night so its getting a little better.

Right, I've been summonsed to sort tea out. Hope to catch up later x

swampster · 21/03/2009 14:11

I have used a fair few slings/carriers.

Ring slings: great for around the house and as a 'just in case' when out and about with two littlies but only one buggy. Minuses: you tend to need to use one hand to support a lot of the time.

Wilkinet: people love them, I hated mine and gave it away at the earliest opportunity. Baby origami with loads of fiddly ties and straps and unnecessary padding.

Baby Björn: I found mine surprisingly comfy and easy to use and if you are putting it on properly, the weight is pretty evenly spread. DS1 liked it best of all. I think there is a lot of snobbishness around slings v. carriers but if it works for you, go for it. The carrier I'd really like to try is the Bushbaby front carrier for little babies (also fancy one of their toddler Elite back carriers).

Moby Wrap: divine, spreads the weight beautifully in voluminous folds of fabric. Don't be put off by having to 'tie' it on, it is surprisingly easy.

Papoozle: similar to a wrap but with a click on waist band so easier to use for those who are afraid of having to do baby origami. Also spreads the weight beautifully. Slight downside is that you need a separate 'belly band' to support a tiny baby. But at the moment it is in joint first place with the Moby for favourite status.

Toddler Patapum: only really used with my sling refusenik DS2 who didn't really get on with any sling. It was practical and did the job when out and about with a sleeping toddler. Or two sleeping LOs and only one buggy. When DS2 was bigger I found it easier to use than a ring sling.

Phew! I'm slinged out now!

swampster · 21/03/2009 14:13

I got up at 12.30 today!

SomeMightSay · 21/03/2009 15:06

MS and lardy Oh dear. They are a bit crap aren't they.
Swampster at your super lay in. I want one

Me and the babies have been out shopping today.
Ds1 is now in bed so I assembled the new activity bar for Luke and I think he likes it, he was really smiling everytime the music played. He is now having some belly time so we are both on the floor for a while before ds1 gets up.
I think the side of Luke's head is getting really flat. The re-positining isn't working because he won't settle without resting on that side of his head and I'm not leaving rolled up towels/blankets/muslins in with him overnight. Not sure what else to do about it. because it's the side I'm hoping it doesn't affect the position of his ear and eye.

SomeMightSay · 21/03/2009 15:09

spotty I seem to have missed a whole paragraph from your post earlier. Hope you're feeling a bit better.

PinkTulips · 21/03/2009 17:17

just spent a couple of hours sowing loads of seeds, repotting some passionflowers and planting some trees and shrubs while the dcs played with the boy from next door and aaron snoozed in the sunshine. am delightfully engrained with mud

mos.... the poor darling getting tired... because of course you're getting hours of beauty sleep? you've really got to wonder how their minds work when they come out with this stuff don't you?! hope he stops whinging and you had a nice day today

sms, in the baby instruction manual the PHN gave me it suggests alternating which end od the cot babies feet are at as they prefer to lie looking towards light so that apparently stops them favouring one side. maybe you could try positioning luke so that the brightest area of the room... ie the window is always on the good side iyswim?

SomeMightSay · 21/03/2009 18:12

PT I did think about doing that, didn't want to because, you may laugh at me, when I sleep the wrong way round in the bed, i feel quite odd and a bit dizzy, do you know what I mean? Like my body is used to the room being one way and I've kind of felt like someone is holding me upside down. Am I a big freak?????? But think I will have to turn him around, it would be awful if the side of his face went flat.

have been meaning to ask as it's been said here a few times now. What is a PHN?

LittleMissNorty · 21/03/2009 18:24

Hello all

Tried to catch up but I'm nearly asleep

Lardy...hope you're all ok after your hospital experience. Bloody men eh?

Pempe - you made me 3-4 babygro's a day....my little man does 6-9 a day.

I'm not sure if we've got a problem or not. He pukes a lot....probably around half his feed (so around 3oz) but over the course of around 2-3 hours after a feed. He gets very upset and is difficult to settle. It spells disaster in the middle of the night, and usually we both end up in tears. Its not projectile, but just spews out of his mouth, down his neck and into his hair. My washing each day for him is 6-9 babgro's, same number of vests, sleeping bag, couple of blankets, couple of moses basket sheets, 6 bibs and 5-7 muslins. Is this normal or have we got a reflux-type problem?

SMS - my nephew bangs his head and bruises himself a lot....because he suffers with recurrent ear infections and the GP said its quite common for toddlers to do this when in pain.

SomeMightSay · 21/03/2009 18:34

LMN That sounds a bit like ds1's reflux stage, near needed a whole outfit change after every feed.
What I was told by paed is that although it is normal for babies to posset, it is not normal for them to bring up any amount of milk after every feed, so if that is what's happening, maybe pop to the doc's and see what they think?

All this toddler head bang stuff,I always thought it was 'normal' and that some did it, some didn't, all very interesting. I don't know too muh history or anything on this particular boy, but from the size of some of the bumps and bruises I've seen, he must be really hurting himself.
I just hope that all of this is innocent and that this poor lo isn't being hurt by those that are supposed to be caring for him. It's just very sad to think something may be happening you know?

PinkTulips · 21/03/2009 19:06

PHN = public health nurse, our equivalent of a HV

the lad from next door is tidying the playroom.... can i keep him?

Pempe · 21/03/2009 19:17

had a shit evening. harry cried inconsolably for 4 hours for some unknown reason, DH has found out his uncle is close to the end in hospital and I have mastitis, I think in both breasts.

Will catch up on posts tomorrow morning. Hope everyone is ok.

PinkTulips · 21/03/2009 19:31

pempe... ibrufrofen and feed lots, try and get him to drain one boob first, even of it takes 4/5 feeds, then get him to drain the other.

feed in lots of differant positions so he drains every duct.... lie him on the bed and kneel above his head and lean over him and feed like that.

use hot compresses when feeding as it loosens the blockage and helps the milk flow. have a hot bath or shower and comb your boobs in the warm water to unblock the ducts.

are your breasts streaked with red? are you feverish and fluey? if yes it's mastitis, if no it's blocked ducts/engorgement and you can still avoid mastitis.

buckets of virtual earl grey and sympathy on their way to greece

SomeMightSay · 21/03/2009 22:00

pempe Sorry you've had a bad evening. Luke's also had a dodgy day and trust it to be the same day that ds1 has had a whingy one too.
Hope PT's advice on the boobies helps.

If Luke isn't being sick, then I am not overfeeding him, right? I think I am going to speak to my hv about the lack of poo from him, just because he always looks like he is straining and the past few days I ave been unable to figure out what's been wrong with him.

lardybump · 21/03/2009 22:12

TMI alert... I have just been to the toilet (wee wee) and there was blood on the toilet paper after I wiped!!! DS is only a month old today and I am breast feeding, surely this can not be a period??? Should I go to GP to check everything is ok with the stitches and everything?? I didn't have a period for months after dd was born.....

Pempe · 21/03/2009 22:45

PT - thanks for the advice. It's definitely mastitis, I had a bout of it about 3 weeks ago, on one side. I'm very very feverish to the extent that when Harry just woke me up for his 12 o'clock feed, I had absolutely no idea what I was supposed to do with him. Poor lad, crying his eyes out, my DH had to explain that it was time for a feed while I sat there rambling on about sewing machines?!?! Weird dream, I assume.

mumoverseas · 22/03/2009 06:48

morning all, HAPPY MOTHERS DAY
sending virtual flowers and chocolate covered dates to everyone just in case OH's forget!

I got breakfast in bed! a bacon (turkey bacon sadly) and brie baguette that DS (number 1, not H) made. It was very early though, around 6.30am as he leaves for school at 6.50 (school/work day here) but was lovely and very unexpected (even though DD2 scoffed most of it)

SMS, NO! you are not a freak, thats exactly how I feel if I try sleeping upside down in bed (or maybe we are both freaks )

LMN it does sound like your LO is a little bit more sick than normal, maybe you should get him checked out to be on the safe side.

Pempe, sorry you are having a hard time of the feeding. There is someone on the living overseas thread asking if anyone is living in Athens. Think you are a few hours from there but it might be a thread you want to look at. Wish there were more MN's living out here

Am meeting a friend for lunch before we pick our toddlers up from nursery which be nice and was just planned this morning. She is a bit down as her DH has been away on business for 2 weeks and clearly had forgotten mothers day. I was a bit naughty and just sneaked to our compound florist and ordered some flowers to be delivered to her and wrote a card from her two boys for mothers day. Is that a bit daft? Wonder if she will mind that it wasn't really them?

LittleMissNorty · 22/03/2009 08:11

Morning . Happy Mothers Day everyone

MOS....that is a lovely thing to do for your friend.....

No lie-in here. I slept from 10.30 - 2.30 (because DH done last feed for me) then up from 2.30 till 5.15am.....half an hours sleep then up from 5.45 till 6.15am then DD up at 6.45am [fucking knackered emoticon needed ]

Hope everyone has a lovely day and gets spoilt

SomeMightSay · 22/03/2009 08:38

HAPPY MOTHER's DAY EVERYONE! [GRIN]
AN EXTRA SPECIAL HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY FOR THE FIRST TIMRS [GRIN] [GRIN]

I got a lovely card and dp actually remembered to write 'To Mummy' (and not to Nicola) and I got the new Oasis album which I've been meaning to buy for ages, just haven't had a spare £10 for it.
No plans for today, dp is just about to go get into bed and the rest of us will get dressed and go to Tescos and then maybe the park if the weather stays nice.

SomeMightSay · 22/03/2009 08:39

Oh yeah, MoS Glad I'm not alone
I'm sure you friend will love the flowers, it's a nice gesture.

MarkStretch · 22/03/2009 09:23

Morning all

Happy Mother's Day!

To cut a long story short, someone from our past who previously caused a lot of problems between us reappeared yesterday and DH didn't deal with it in the way I saw fit (i.e. fuck off and leave me and the wife ALONE) but we have sorted it now.

I got some lovely gifts this morning, wine, a huge box of Thorntons chocolates and some Champneys spa stuff. DH went to work at 6.30 and DD was in with me waving presents in my face at 6.35 so not much of a lie-in

I am spending the day with my 2 children (still seems funny writing that). I have made us a picnic and after dance class this morning we are going for a walk by the river.

Pempe- sorry to hear you're suffering, I hope you're not in too much pain.

Lardy- are you still bleeding this morning? Hope it's not your period, that would be gutting so soon!
