MrsY · 12/03/2009 12:21

PT She settled almost as soon as John got home, so I had the "she doesn't seem that bad" comment . I wolfed down my KFC he'd bought me and jumped in the bath, while John stayed down playing the bloody xbox looking after her. he bought her up at 12:15, despite knowing she was due a feed, so I had to bring her back down to change her and do her bottle, and then had to do it again at 5-ish, as John was too tired. But clearly not tired enough to warrant coming to bed earlier...

Got some sleep though, and should be able to get some more this afternoon.

I took her to clinic this morning and she's 9lb 1oz, so has put on 1lb in ten days - is that about right?

I've just bought her the Baby Einstein lullaby album from iTunes - it's lovely. Anyone else tried Baby Einstein stuff?

dinkystinky · 12/03/2009 12:51

MrsY - we got DS1 an entire baby einstein box set (all their DVDs) off Ebay for about £20 (normally retails at well above £100) and he enjoyed watching them from around 3 months old (handy while I wanted to grab a quick shower/put the laundry on/ cook dinner and needed my hands). Personally I thought the production quality wasnt great (would have preferred Sesame Street) but DS1 loved it so obviously they appealed to the target market Will be dusting them off for Danny in a few months... Glad you got your bath and KFC and some sleep in but shame John couldnt do the bottle before he brought M up to give you abit more of a rest...

Pempe - wow, great weight gain! I hope the bottle of EBM helps you get more sleep at night - the few times DH tried to do that with DS1 it didnt really help as DS1 still woke up at the same time for his usual big feed so we gave up as I didnt really mind doing the night feeds. Perhaps if we'd persevered we'd have seen results (and wouldnt had to have done bottle battle months later ). If you are dropping a night time feed (or stretching it out) you will get engorged - definitely recommend breastshells which will self express milk out as you get engorged and take the edge off the engorgement (which will help Harry latch on too when he wakes for a feed).

KT - sorry to hear Poppy has reflux. Hope the gaviscon helps.

P.s. SMS - sorry you had such a hard night last night with Luke; hope the boys let you get a nap in today. Danny was up half the night with snuffles too - pesky nocturnal babies...

SomeMightSay · 12/03/2009 13:12

MrsY Luke is averaging about half a lb a week so 1lb in 10 days sounds fine. If you're in doubt, have a look at the chart in the red book where they mark it off, if she's staying round about on the same line, is fine.
Dp used to say that about ds1 when he was a baby, but it's not the them that's at home all day with it is it? Used to drive me mad, and he still goes on about how I make it sound like ds1 was a complete monster, but he was! Ds1 was always better (and still is) at settling with dp than me, think it may be because I am here all day every day with them, he must just think "get out my face woman" the same as we would if we were with the same person day in day out.

I have a friend coming over with her ds in about half an hour so while both boys have been asleep I've run round with the duster and hoover but cheated with the mopping, I got the bad bits with a baby wipe . Luke's in his basket, fast asleep but is awfully squirmy, think he has a little pain, but I'm not waking him just yet. Could do with having a little nap myself mind. Oh well, will have to go to bed early again tonight. We went at 9 last night and it was lovely.

SomeMightSay · 12/03/2009 13:14

Hiya dinky It wasn't too bad as we went to bed early.
I bought some Nasosal drops and gave Luke 2 in each nostril, got the cotton buds and a load of crap came out of his nose. He seems to have been a bit better breathing wise since then.

dinkystinky · 12/03/2009 13:26

Ah, going to bed early... must try that one!

SomeMightSay · 12/03/2009 13:30

Just got this in an e-mail and thought I'd share, made me smile.

mumoverseas · 12/03/2009 13:44

afternoon all, just had a quick catch up, seem to have missed loads.

catstar so glad to see LO is ok and now home, you must be so relieved.

raisin I'm tandeming, although very unintentionally! I'd been trying to wean off DD (now 2.5) for months particularly as when pg it was so painful. I'd got her down to just at night and maybe before pm nap but now she has developed an interest for it again. She is so good with DS and the only time she seems to get jealous is when I'm feeding him. Last week she literally pulled my boob out of his mouth and jumped on herself and on quite a few occasions since I've had one on each side think I might namechange to daisy the dairy cow.

ref sleeping, we are co-sleeping too as we did with DD. We are however hoping to do it for less time than DD who we finally moved from our bed into her room 8 days ago when we just ran out of room in our bed. Even though its a large kingsize, DH and I are not exactly on the small size (that reminds me, is it you PT who is back into size 8 clothes?) If it is, I hate you! Never been a size 8 in my life let alone within weeks of giving birth (any tips gratefully received)

Interesting reading about dummies. DS1 had one and it took forever to get him off it so DD1 didn't have one. DD2 was introduced to one when around 6 months but not interested and we decided to try DS1 this morning (before I read the advice ref dummies - didn't know that could seemingly reduce the risk of SIDS) and he seemed to really like it, in fact, he is sucking away in his pram now and has probably slept for the longest time ever Must send DH to mothercare to buy their entire stock.

Hope all those with babies with coughs and colds get better soon and that it warms up soon in the UK.
We are having crazy weather here. On Tuesday I got caught in a HUGE sandstorm which was quite scary. Apparently there were pictures of it in some UK newspapers and on skynews. Visibility of a few foot which made the drive back from town difficult. Sods law I'd gone to the furthest shopping mall for the first time since around October. Today is really hot and sunny, guess thats global warming for you.

Right, off to cook early tea as DH and I are going to a party tonight for the first time in what seems like years. One of his senior colleagues 40th so hopefully will be a good bash and there may be some smuggled in wine which can occasionally be acquired from the MOD/British Embassy

fruitstick · 12/03/2009 13:47

We are still co-sleeping but really want Arthur to sleep in his crib now. Dinky I'm going to try some of those tips? Tried muslin that smells of me etc but no good. He will sleep on his front in his crib but not back and obviously I'm way too paranoid to do that.

DS1 at nursery today so we went back to bed for a few hours this morning. House is a tip but I feel a little more human

MrsY - great weight gain but damn those pesky husbands. DH is another one who constantly complains of tiredness but never comes to bed early as claims he can't sleep befpre midnight .
He couldn't take DS1 to nursery this morning even though he was walking straight passed it 5 minutes before me!

Jelliebaby · 12/03/2009 14:06

Hi all, Had a brief read of posts and seems we are all having sleepless nights and poor little babies with colds. My LO has had a cold, thrush of the tongue and conjunctivitus and shes only 5 weeks old, its one thing after another at the moment.

Does any one elses baby have a really shaky leg? my LO's leg seems to shake uncontrollably when she stretches (both legs or just one leg. It happens most when she's crying or has just woken up. Has anyone else experienced this? Not sure if its normal

dinkystinky · 12/03/2009 14:13

Jelliebaby - your poor little girl. That sounds like a hell of a lot of stuff for her to contend with - I hope she recovers from all of those really soon. Not sure re the shaky leg (IMO all newborns are a bit shaky) - is it like that all the time? Maybe worth asking the GP about it at your 6 week check?

OP posts:
LittleMissNorty · 12/03/2009 15:21

Hello ladies

Jellie, my little man has a shaky leg sometimes when he stretches. I'm not too concerned but I might mention it at his 8 week check

We also have a new baby rash....looks horrible but is only over his head and neck, so also not too concerned...DD had it as well.

He has had a few dark green poo's recently....does anyone know the reason for this (yellow is the norm I think). I can't remember why this happens (he is FF).

Catstar, glad you are home and all is ok

MOS - I saw that storm on the TV the other day and thought of you....the pictures were amazing!

Had to go to the osteopath yesterday as I've got sciatica and I had a whole hour without either DC....it was very odd! (but nice). When he has sorted my back out, I shall go and have a massage once a week to keep back supple and give me some "me" time.

PinkTulips · 12/03/2009 15:27

mos... if you puke your guts up for 5 months at the beginning of pregnancy to the point where you lose rather than gain weight, don't learn to drive til the last 2 months of the pregnancy so you have to walk everywhere with 2 toddlers, be broke at xmas so you can't afford to gorge on choccies and cake and then spend a week of eating or sleeping and running around like a blue arsed fly back and forth to scbu immedietly after giving birth it seems to knock the weight off fairly sharpish i'm size 10 really, that pair of size 8's doesn't actually fit! strange to be this size so soon after having a baby as with dd i barely lost the weight before getting preg with ds1 and after having him it took almost 2 years to go back to normal size.

whoever suggested squirting bm up the babies nose is a genious btw... aaron was in hysterics with his blocked nose this morning so i tried it and a huge amount of snot flew out 30 seconds later and he was happy and content again!

fruitstick · 12/03/2009 15:33

I'v been squirting breast milk on Arthur's gammy eye too. Do you reckon it'll clean the oven too!

SomeMightSay · 12/03/2009 16:01

jellie So sorry your poor lo is unwell. Sounds like she's got it all at once, might be better like that than one by one though for both of you.
I'm sure the leg shaky is normal, or at least hope it is, both mine do it, and me!
LMN I think green poo is connected to winding problems? I always took ds1 to docs with it because I thought it was a sign they were getting ill but I soon noticed it was only happening when he had wind.
(Luke is only going once every other day. I should get that checked shouldn't I? Will mention it at check on tuesday)

SomeMightSay · 12/03/2009 16:07

I can hear Luke 'going' now. Fast asleep he is. Sounds like there's alot in there. Do I really want to undo the nappy and unleash whatever nightmare awaits?
I may be a while...........

mumoverseas · 12/03/2009 16:30

PT, so sorry if I came across as insensitive and am so sorry that you were so sick. I feel like a real bitch now

LMN Harrison has that rash too. It started off around 2 weeks ago with a few little white spots that the nurses at the med centre said were milk spots. Now he has a lot more angrier looking red spots on his face and neck and we are starting to wonder whether maybe its heat rash too (obviously not the case with your LO) Like you say, only face and neck so not too worried at the moment. DH said he had bad acne when he was younger so lucky I didn't meet him then

Wish I'd known the breastmilk tip last week when I had a cold/bunged up nose. Wonder if it can squirt up?

SMS, Harrison has had a few weeks where he has only done a poo every other day, once after 3 days but I'm not too worried as it doesn't seem to bother him too much. Have to wonder if he is affected by what I eat. Had indian tonight so will wait and see what happens tomorrow....

Calico1 · 12/03/2009 16:37

jellie - all Lilian's limbs shake a bit when she is going off to sleep or just waking up - immature nervous system is responsible and it should stop in a few months but if you are worried get it checked out.

SMS - I do the losing baby thing too - I forget where I put her down to sleep and have a panicking moment until I remember....

raisingrrrl · 12/03/2009 16:38

mumoverseas - ds has been good with dd mainly, but when they nurse together he's very sweet, and strokes her head and mumbles, "Lub oo," (love you) out of the corner of his mouth!

SomeMightSay · 12/03/2009 16:41

Thanx MoS I read ages ago that there is a wide spectrum of normal. Some babies go alot, others don't. When he does go, it's yellow and soft so don't think there's too much to worry about although he is always red faced and does seem to be uncomfortable/strain but that might be the wind stuff.

Arched back, very stiff body and crying for 4 hours straight in the evening is colic isn't it? I know it is, am just hoping someone can tell me it's not, oh well, will be gone in 7-9 weeks

SomeMightSay · 12/03/2009 16:43

raisin That is sooooo cute!
Calico Glad I'm not alone

spottypushedherbabyout · 12/03/2009 17:06

Congrats Rani! and welcome Beantin.

Welcome home Catstar and Samuel, so glad he is better.

PT its so cathartic having a good clear and you feel so much better when it's done. I did ours on Tues but it's already messy again .

DH seems to be using his annual leave as just that rather than to help me! Funny that I was on A/L from Dec to mid Feb before starting ML yet worked like a trojan Mrsy/fruitstick another tirdness moaner that wont come to bed until midnight over here too. Grrr

Raisingrrl @ your DS! I say no to tandem feeding but then decided to carry on feeding DS mornings only (we had sleep association issues so no nights/nap times) but he decided to self wean on the Friday and I had Sam on the Monday! Amazing timing! He hasn't shown any interest in wanting it although loves watching the baby have his milk whilst he has his big boy milk. Was really tempted to offer him it when I was engorged but thought it best to leave him to it as he stopped himself. Am really glad he did as didn't want to tandem feed. Good luck with it though

Sorry to everyone suffering with colicky/refluxy/snotty bairnes It's really not nice. Harry was really sicky and it would take hours to feed him properly, then the winding screaming etc - argh! I remember it well.

Jellie DS1 did the shakey leg thing and I was told it was normal (he also used to waggle one constantly in the air when feeding )

LMN @ your sciatica. Hope it gets better soon. My SOD hasn't gone so I have to go back to physio tomorrow too.

MOS - I was a size 8 before having babies. Am now more like a 14 12. Still keep a bag of clothes in the loft as am ever hopeful!...... who am I kidding? lol

I packed all my Matty clothes away yesterday and dug out a bag I had labelled 'post pg/Jelly belly' clothes. Seems that they are not that jelly belly after all and I now have no clothes! I'm also sick of having to wear big knockers!!!

Breastmilk rocks - may try the oven cleaning suggestion!

spottypushedherbabyout · 12/03/2009 17:14

Oh I'm soooo relieved that posted! Just after I pressed post we had a power cut that lasted for all of 5 seconds. WOuld have been most peeved if i'd lost it all!

MarkStretch · 12/03/2009 17:17

DH is on nights.

That means I have the baby all day and night and he came in this morning and slept for 9hrs solid. He is now chipper and whistling.

I may pummel his farking head into the ground.

I am so tired I am hallucinating. Things keep walking out in front of me and other things keep bursting into flames.

spottypushedherbabyout · 12/03/2009 17:17

Tut tut spotty......

I said no, not I say no.

Yes my Sod (aka DH) is still with me but I meant SPD

And of course i'm sick of big knickers....I wear my big knockers with pride
