ray, she is ten weeks - eleven on sunday. it's really nice to watch her working on the hand-eye co-ordination; she is so serious and then suddenly bursts into smiles.

PatTheHammer · 03/04/2009 09:08

Morning all!
Oooh, it's so lush when the start grabbing stuff isn't it . The look of satisfaction on Zach's face the other week when he finally grabbed the elephant on his car seat that had been tantalising him for weeks and promptly shoved it straight in his mouth for a suck. It almost parallels when they first start crawling/walking and can finally reach objets that have been tormenting/tempting them for months. In DD's case it was my books on the bookcase, she was so excited, I was less so!
Lenni full on at your description of your antics, felt dirty just reading it!

i now know what I need to improve my sex-life....... a spare room

fymmumoftwo · 03/04/2009 09:53

morning all!

re the sex thing, It took 12 months after 1st birth for it not to be painful (did you know breastfeeding hinders healing???, however so does the pill....) I was doing both and took ages for the (small) scar tissue to settle down.

This time much easier birth hence....

I would recommend sleeping in with LO so you can nip back into be with Dh when baby is settled!

Rray - how much was the Wii fit - thy seem really pricey or am I wrong??? (I'd love one BTW)

hi

moosemama · 03/04/2009 12:30

Morning

Managed Easter assembly this morning with DD awake for nearly all of it! She just sat in the moby with one arm and shoulder and her head out looking all around at the posters etc and smiling at all the cooing Mums (and Grandads for some reason).

That said, twas absolute chaos at our house before school this morning. We all overslept, then had to do the hundred mile dash to get everyone there on time - luckily boys were still on time to line up - they've never been late yet . The boys were so pleased to see me in assembly that it made the mad dash worthwhile. I really don't want them to think that DD is an obstruction to my doing all the things I used to do for them before her arrival.

DD seems to have got back on track with her sleeping now, had a couple of nights where she's gone down after her 10/10.30 feed and I've had to wake her to feed her before the school run. Long may it last! Now if I could just stop DH snoring I might stop feeling so knackered all the time!

Also experiencing much dribbling and bubble blowing here (DD not me) she started it just before 10 weeks (was 11 weeks yesterday). She's also fascinated with her own hands and enjoying punching and kicking the animals on the baby gym with amazing directional control. Favourite thing is grabbing her cuddly zebra's (called Deborah, obviously) ears or tail and shoving them in her mouth then sucking on them till they are really soggy and gross. Getting some huge chuckles at the moment as well which is so lovely it makes me just want to play with her all day!

tinkhas2scrummygirls · 03/04/2009 13:13

hi mm glad easter ass good
dd sounded very contended.
bracken is 11 weeks mon and she blow bubbles, smiles loads and dribbles, chews hands, luvs knocking hanging toys on her gym 2. she loves her lamaze mortimer the mose put it onher lap and she grabs him and sucks him. it is great when they do more

r people still sharing a room with baby?
were going to wait till bracken slept through before putting her in bedroom and will be sharing with dd1. thinking she would sleep better in cot in other room, would be quieter and she has nearly outgrown moses length wise is a tall girl.
she just wakes @ 4am
how much r your babies drinking?
bracken has 2-3 ozs @ 8am,3ozs @ 11am, 3ozs @ 2pm,then pm then wake her @ 11pm. then she just wakes @ 4am. doesnt seem like she is having much!!

elkiedee · 03/04/2009 15:07

We still have Conor in our room, we only moved DS1 into his room at the time of C's birth. I find his little noises reassuring, it's easy to reach out, feed him and put him back, and bfing makes me really sleepy so though I have to wake up I don't struggle to sleep again. I fell asleep in the GP's surgery waiting for an appointment for C to have his first jabs this morning.

He was also weighed in a completely separate appt with the health visitor this morning - 270 g (over 9 oz) in 8 days. It shows though how weight gain can vary, for those who are having worries - it's more than twice what he gained in the first week of exclusive bf, and he hasn't had any formula recently.

tinkhas2scrummygirls · 03/04/2009 15:39

interesting elk

tinkhas2scrummygirls · 03/04/2009 15:40

...

rrrayray · 03/04/2009 15:49

tink Am BF, so not sure how much she is drinking. Although, my NCT ladies who are formula feeding, the ones about Bracken's age are having about 5 oz i think, bit that said, i think they are feeding them less often. Do you not give Bracken a feed between 2 and 11pm???? Esme will usually feed 2.30pm, then i sort of "tank" her up for the night, so 5pm AND 6.30pm after her bath. Esme is still in our room, we're going to put her in her own room at 12 weeks i think.

Does anyone know if i'm imagining it, or if Breastfed babies are likely to wake in the night for longer? Esme only wakes once about 3am, literally wakes, gulps, and is asleep again before finished. she is so relaxed doesnt even burp.

Moose Wow... 10.30- School run, that must be like 8am?? Good work little one!!

Fym I got our Wii console Free when i took up my last phone contract, but we've literally used it twice or three times. The Wii fit i bought from Amazon. It was £68 including postage. I think you can get them for cheaper (say 50 ish) on Ebay if you get into a bidding war! Hopefully it'll arrive soon, interested to see if any good.

Stripey Esme is just starting to try and reach out for things. Be so cute when she can finally reach them (although not my hair- she can stop pulling on that- right now!!)

elkiedee · 03/04/2009 16:00

Ray, a lot of people use formula so babies will "go" for longer, but that didn't really happen with ds1 who was pretty much ff from very early on (not my choice). He had a middle of the night feed more often than not. He also woke up for several hours at a time for a while. Esme's 3 am feeds sound great to me if you can stay in bed to feed and go back to sleep easily after putting her down, to be honest.

PatTheHammer · 03/04/2009 16:48

ray totally agree with Elkie and this is my experience with both my BF babies (minus teething/colds and anything else that upset sleep patterns) they stir briefly and need a brief feed to drift back off. This petered out with DD about 5 months when she had a busy day at the CM when I was back at work, also I always got her up early so I think this helps. Zach surfaces about 6ish for a quick suckle then goes back till 8.30 (last feed at 9pm usually), usually wakes with a very wet nappy!

Tink i think that she is probably having enough, otherwise she would let you know, she seems quite a petite little girl from your photos and one of my friends has a similar little girl who never takes more than about 3-4oz per feed and she is gaining weight and thriving beautifully at 6 months. We still have Zach in with us at 12 weeks, I'm simply to scared he will wake up DD at 6 in the morning, knowing full well she will not go back to sleep . We are transferring him to the travel cot next week as he too is a bit long for the moses. Going to sleep in it for a week at my mums when we go down on sunday, so should acclimatise him to it.

Got DD's Easter fayre tomorrow and have stupidly volunteered to do refreshments. Hoping Zach won't need too much refreshment of his own between 11 and 2

treedelivery · 03/04/2009 17:38

Hello all. Can't sto as my kids are wild and we are yard clearing.

Haven't put dd2 down since 7am. She is one serious bit of baby.

missjackson · 03/04/2009 18:12

Lovely day out for lunch with some friends today - I have been expressing every evening this week so loaded my Mum up with several bags of EBM - even though I fed LO at 12.30 before we left for lunch, he still managed to guzzle 7 oz before we got back at 3.30pm! All went well, although I could hardly think of anything to talk about except LO! Was very pleased to see him when I got back, and so were my boobs...luckily he still had the appetite to take a snack from each of them before I exploded!

But wow, it was so nice to get away for a few hours, have a glass of wine and relax, not listening out for those waking cries!

I don't think he slept much while I was away though, having too much fun with Grandma. He is sleeping outside in the car now with the window down, but as it's 6.15pm already I shall have to wake him up! Get ready for grumpy baby....

PT, that's really made me giggle

LenniEd · 03/04/2009 20:15

Yes Pat, got a bit carried away.

Tink - DS will take 6-7oz of ebm, which I think is less concentrated than formula especially since I express usually in the morning when it is quite watery. So am guessing the equivalent of that might be more like 5oz formula perhaps - he is a big boy though 15lb 4oz today, that's double his birthweight almost.

Rrrayray - DD was fomula fed and she woke at 12am and 3am every night until she was about 9months and at 3am every night until she was about 15months, and then prob every other night until about 18months so don't think the ff/bf thing always works out. Depends on the baby ime. DS is bf and he sleeps 7pm-5am most nights. But he is a generally more content baby, DD had bad reflux and was hard work with pretty much everything.

I'm planning on keeping DS in with us until he's at least 6 months old. We kept DD in with us until she was 7 months.

Dog - It's my birthday on the 9th Not going out though as DS has his second jabs that day

Talking of bunnies - ours has gone missing hoping he comes back, have looked everywhere for him.

MissJ - your day out sounds lovely. Do you feel more settled there yet?

rrrayray · 03/04/2009 20:43

just whizzing in quickly.

hey lots of us with birthdays soon, mine is 11th!

Catch up tomo x

moosemama · 03/04/2009 20:49

As DD is BF don't really know how much she takes at each feed, but she is currently taking 6 to 6.5 oz at her 10.30 pm feed before having her sleepathon till roughly 7.45/8.00 am ish.

Ray yes she does a great long sleep at night, which is lovely, but then she feeds every two hours all day! The boys were much more regular with 3 hourly feeds all day and one longer stretch at night with a short feed during the night.

I read somewhere (might have been Kellymom or LaLeche) that you take their weight in pounds, ignore the ounces and halve it to work out how many ounces of EBM they need per feed if you have to leave them. However, I know that if I give her a bottle while we're out and express the feed when we get back I tend to get roughly 5oz so would presume that's how much she takes for an average daytime feed. I usually do the calculation and add an extra ounce just in case. I'm sure its different for formula feeding though.

Don't know if these links might help you or not, bearing in mind that all babies are different and these rough guides are designed around the 'average baby' whatever that is: www.babycentre.co.uk/baby/formula/howmuchmilk/

www.askbaby.com/how-much-formula-milk-does-my-baby-need.htm

Have no clue how much she weighs at the moment but she was 10lb 12 oz two weeks ago. Not going back to get her weighed until her 3 month jabs which are Tuesday after next. Conveniently timed to be in the boys school holidays and they don't allow siblings at baby clinic!

Yay that reminds me! School holidays, no more school runs for two whole weeks! I can feel a couple of pj days coming on!

Tink - where are your pics gone? I wanna see scrummy girls too!

Does anyone think the bunny smileys look more like bee's?

elkiedee · 03/04/2009 22:27

Tree, I don't know what to suggest, but just wanted to offer you sympathy.

elkiedee · 03/04/2009 22:30

and yes, someone has posted on Feb postnatal that the bunny smileys look more like bees. In fact, I accidentally responded to her on this thread, somehow - not sure how, I must have had both threads open at the same time.

treedelivery · 03/04/2009 22:38

Thanks elkidee.

Sorry I'm not really responding to the thread postings, am a bit 'out there' at the mo.
