Hello everyone! Hope all is good in baby world and everyone is well. I'm not even going to begin to catch up on the old thread.

Had a crazy week, we all had a cold, then poor ds developed a really wheezy chest. He's had a high temp the last 24 hours and is so blocked up and snuffly he's finding it hard to breath. The doc has given saline drops and baby panodol and he's doing better, but he's still all pale and hot. But he's not off his milk at all, so that's a good sign!

I have had an ear infection for three days and poor dd and dp are now snuffling too. To top it all off we have mil staying this weekend too! Looking forward to this week being over!

DS did his first proper smile last night in his daddy's arms, which was really sweet. can't believe he'll be 6 weeks on wed, its flown by.

Has anyone heard from Tree? Hope she's ok.

FLF- love the thread title

Morning

Hi HKZ. Sorry to hear you've all been poorly. Its so worrying when they are poorly so little isn't it.

Thanks for the Thrush advice folks. Googled it last night and you can't get anything over the counter now, you used to be able to but its been reclassified and is only available for children over 4 months now. Decided in the end to use my good old bathing with lavender and tea tree method (worked during pg with thrush at the other end iyswim). Bathed nips after last breastfeed as DH gives the last one by bottle so then had all night for essential oils to do their stuff. Bit of a pain having to wash to remove oils before 4.30 am feed though, but definitely worth it as nips feel quite a lot better this morning. DD is still now showing signs of any discomfort and is feeding normally, hopefully GPs will triage us due to DDs age and we will have some medication by lunchtime tomorrow.

No false alarms with the monitors last night but DD was really restless and I spent half the night watching the green light flashing through her grobag after having a dream that the alarm had gone off.

Must go and wake her now, she is in the swing fast asleep - swinging, vibrating and listening to a waterfall, despite the fact that she insisted she was desperate for a feed half and hour ago when I wanted to eat my breakfast!

fourlittlefeet · 01/03/2009 13:04

HKZ, hope your household is creepy out of the state of lurgyness; ours seems to be gradually improving as the toddler snot changes from green to see-through and the babies' coughs are less chesty.

My new resolution this week is to start toning up the buns and blowing away the winter cobwebs by doing long walks round the park. We shall see . Baby cinema sounds pretty good too.

Moose, glad your nipple techniques are working, horrid having itchy nips.

We definitely need to send out a search party for Tree. Was going to make a joke about not seeing the woods for them, but my brain isn't working properly.

Got cold here too, but doesn't seem to be affecting Esme just yet.

Her bottom rash is NEARLY all gone.

Having a lazy day, hope all is well. x

Wow, zoos & beaches, we are really beginning to get out there!

Sorry to hear about thrush and colds - here it's all about wind but the farty kind - LO is waking up about 10-20 minutes after he falls asleep (and just as I get in the bath/ sit down to eat/ begin any other baby-free activity!) with what must be tummy pain - he then huffs and puffs and strains and goes red in the face before finally finding some relief with a big fart.

Do you think this is because I am not winding him enough after feeding, so that the air bubbles go down into his intestines? I must admit I don't usually get any results from regular winding, so haven't been doing it too enthusiastically - just maybe a minute or two after feeding.

Was changing his nappy this morning when he did one of these 'farts' - turned out to be projectile poo all over my dressing gown !

Nice quiet day sat in the sun in my Mum's garden being spoiled.

missjackson · 01/03/2009 18:47

ps rray you asked about keeping LO awake - I ordered some baby books from Amazon the other day including spots and dots and LO is fascinated by them - just simple graphic pictures which apparently babies love.

also MM, sorry, can you post your link for your swing again please? I have trawled back thru last thread but seem to keep missing it. BTW I have finally ordered chicco 4 you stroller so thanks for tip off!

Well, I have had a lovely, if very simple, weekend despite the dreaded thrush!

We spent the whole weekend at home together as a family. It seems like an age since we had the chance, what with the boys' friends birthday parties and introducing DD to relatives etc.

The only exception was when DH took DS2 to look at a car I found online which seemed too much of a bargain to miss. It was indeed a bargain, so we have finally bought a Citroen Xsara Picasso. Yay I won! No Multipla for us! We are collecting it next weekend and I'm really looking forward to being able to sit in the front with DH again.

Today I finally managed to get DH to go up in the loft and fetch the clothes I stored up there when I was pregnant. I'm so stupidly happy to be back in my favourite pair of jeans, but still don't fit in most of my tops due to my ridiculously large chest size.

This afternoon we took the boys out to the local park on their bicycles while DD slept in her pushchair. When we came home we gave them DH's old table football game and they played with it together for an hour and half without so much as a cross word. Meanwhile, DH sorted out our completely rammed understairs cupboard (something I've been nagging for him to do for months) and found all manner of useful and missing items (such as the table football) as well as a car load of stuff for the tip and charity shops. I feel so much better without all the clutter and we can finally fit the vacuum cleaner and new buggy in the cupboard. While everyone else was busy I cooked an enormous roast dinner (something I haven't done since my morning sickness days) and then we all stuffed our faces!

Dog yep knew about the tic mode, the angelcare monitor does it too, but unfortunately I am no better off as I can't sleep through the tic so still get no sleep!

Am hoping to get out walking this week as well. Will be getting a certain amount of exercise anyway as Mum is still pretty immobile and will be on her own, so will need to catch 2 buses plus a fair old walk to go and help her out most days. Really hoping the walking plus cutting out the dairy will result in some weight loss.

chefswife · 01/03/2009 20:39

i found the thread!

anyhow... things are good here. we've had some fantastic news for DH. a space we had our eye on for the restaurant is available, they want to give it to us for a year lease free because the owner heard great stuff about DH. amazing! we also managed two investors that came out of no where. DH is worried about finances, what with the new baby, but i said it was such an opportunity that he can't pass on it; we'll be just fine.

i've also had good news... i have a show in March and in April, both in London. the best part is that i don't have to do anything. i'm sure i'll sell some art.

DD is chatty chatty. first thing in the morning is the funniest, with her goofy little smile and little voice, DH and i have such a great start to our day. she is longer but not gaining as much weight as i thought she'd be by 11 weeks. she's only 9lbs 12oz. we will be going for our first playdate at the pool on the 17th. i found the cutiest swim suit for her in yellow and pink. i also found a music program for 0-12 months. going to check it out.

i was going to start running this week but what a sight when i tried to put on my sports bra... 2 sizes too small. it was squashed, mono boob action. i got stuck in it and needed DH to help me out of it. too funny.

stripeywoollenhat · 01/03/2009 20:47

well, we have had a pretty rubbish day here - poor catherine is very fractious, i think her tummy is bothering her. she is finally sleeping now on my lap, but she had to wear herself out by wailing to do so. reading a book called healthy sleep habits, happy child and have concluded that she is definitely colicky. hopefully she'll grow out of it soon. i was hoping to go out on my bike tomorrow - also time to take myself in hand and start toning up - but if today is anything to go by, i won't have a chance...

i've also been wondering about tree, hope everything's okay

missjackson · 01/03/2009 21:19

So, MM, how on earth do you find time to make a roast dinner? What do you do with LO?!

Thanks for swing links.

stripey poor Catherine, and must be hard for you too. It's so upsetting when they cry and cry and there is nothing you can do except be there for them.

Chefswife sounds like great news all round for your family, and sounds like you are having a lovely time with Violet. I can't believe she is smaller at 11 weeks than Nye at 4 weeks! I bet she is super cute. I hope you can find us on facebook and then we can look at each others' photos - I think Ray recommended you put another request in as she couldn't find one for the group.

moosemama · 01/03/2009 22:22

MissJ DD had a feed, then slept in the swing while I peeled the veg, parboiled the potatoes, made up the stuffing and bread sauce (with soya milk of course), stuck the roast veg in the oven and washed up the dishes I'd used. Then time for another feed and wind and back in the swing talking to her mobile while steamed the rest of the veg and dished up.

If I'm honest, she screamed her head off while I was dishing up and DH and the boys had to entertain her for ten minutes or so. Then DH kindly offered to have her in the sling while I ate my meal as I always seem to be eating one handed these days and then - you guessed it - time for another feed!

chefswife · 02/03/2009 01:20

mmmmm... roast dinner. we don't do roast dinners here. we do dim sum for lunch with friends but, ooohhh do i miss roast dinners with my friends in Taplow. he brought out all the stops; waterford crystal even. mmmmm

missjackson i found the facebook group and rrayray accepted me. i posted some pics.

does anyone else just smell their baby... i love it. she sort of smells like DH. its funny too how i can hear her cry out of tons of babies. neat.

EachPeachPearMum · 02/03/2009 04:13

Moose- where was the car from? or was it a private sale? I have 2weeks to get mine... erk

chefswife- sounds like really good opportunity. Hope DH's sinuses are better

DS has been grimpy today- 48 hours with no poo. He was much happier after he managed one...

Spink · 02/03/2009 09:19

chefswife violet looks gorgeous in the facebook photos - i've just posted some of Rosie, just worked out how to do it...

tinkislittlemissshopping · 02/03/2009 10:03

hkz · 02/03/2009 10:07

Hooray for roast dinners...cooked roast beef and yorkshire pud last night and it was fab!

Completely knackereded here. Had lots mil and various relations dropping by yesterday , it seemed non-stop. DS still has a slight temp, is completely blocked up and has a nasty cough. Not sure whether to take him to the doc for the third time as not sure if there is much they csn do. 6 wk check tomoorow so might as well wait i guess.I have crazy ear ache too, which is a pita.

Have joined the facebook group so will have to check out the pics of all the babies.

Its gorgeous and sunny in hackney today. We turfed the garden last week and sorted out the flower beds...i really want to get out there and do some gardening, not much chance of that happening though...

Chefswife at dim sum, used to live in Hong Kong and that was our saturday morning ritual! I miss decent dim sum. And the smell of babies' heads is the best! In fact, at the moment, even their poo doesn't smell all that offensive.

Stripey- hope dd is feeling better, its so horrible watching you lo in pain.

moose- sounds like a pretty perfect weekend.

Would really like to be out of central london on a day like today and breathing some fresh sea air- enjoy the sunshine !

moosemama · 02/03/2009 10:11

EPPM whatever were you doing on here at that time in the morning! Hope you got some sleep afterwards!

The car was a trade sale I found through autotrader. Try looking at autotrader.co.uk it makes it much easier to find one with the advanced search. We searched on type of car, price, distance and mileage as well as trade ads only as we wanted to part ex our old car. Took us a few weeks to find a good one though.

Spoke to nurse at the GPs this morning and no need to go in, they are leaving prescription for DD and me. Nurse was very sympathetic having had thrush while breastfeeding herself.

DD slept for 6 and a half hours last night but the flippin' dogs woke us up three times breaking into the bathroom - I really have no idea why they do that, they don't do anything once their in there?! I now have a mean tiredness headache. Think I will get out for a walk in the fresh air and see if it clears.

moosemama · 02/03/2009 10:16

Anyone else constantly starving? I seem to be permanently hungry but have no time to eat. I'm also craving cheese since giving up dairy.

moose- I find if I don't do something while bf in the night, I drop off! So I have my laptop next to us in the bedroom. I find it awkward to read books one-handedly, though I have a pile of those to get through too...

For us, it was DD who was waking us up- as soon as DS was settled and I'm just dropping off again [grr]

DS is on a big feeding day- 4th feed since 7am!

stripeywoollenhat · 02/03/2009 12:31

eppm - i am always jolting awake during night feed to find c has drifted off to sleep with me. i use a breast friend (ludicrously over priced cushion you strap around your waist) so there's no danger of my dropping her but it is disorientating.... but i don't really want either me or her to wake up too thoroughly so no laptops/reading for me

i just rang a school! to find out about enrollment! who said i was disorganised...?

tinkislittlemissshopping · 02/03/2009 12:43

what do u ladies think about baby eletronic swings is it worth getting one or not?
