Lilyloo - rooms look fab. The blue one (darker blue at bottom) is similar to J's room.

Fancy dress costume sounds fab.

DS came home with a letter from school saying he is expected to decorate a hard boiled egg for a competition for school next Tues.

How long would a hard boiled egg last and would I be able to do it on Sat?? Or would egg have gone off inside iyswim??

Lucky - have to confess I didn't let DS "play" with his potty as I thought he would just put cars in it, have it on his head etc rather than putting his bum on it

Having said that he never used it anyway and went straight to loo

Lilyloo · 26/03/2009 20:18

He rang his insurance to let them know.
Basically we going to be ok as he has protected no claims.
But the insurance guy said they will likely end up paying out it really gets me that they see ££££ and claim and we end up with higher premiums.
Cannot believe that even with no damage she likely to get paid out!!!

Simps Sat would be fine.
We once did a fab hard boiled egg as Nemo. Painted it orange and black. Then put it in shoe box which we decorated as the sea , seaweed tissue paper , etc!

I dont understand why the insurance company doesn't say "prove it" It is annoying.

Simps - see I'm not sure whether "playing" with it would be a good idea incase she at a later point decides to wee in it and then put it on her head. Hmmm, lol

LuckySalem · 26/03/2009 20:23

Wow Lily - You really go for it when it comes to costumes etc don't you? I hope I can be as creative as you when DD needs/wants to do stuff like that.

We made chocolate easter baskets in playgroup today and I felt really embarassed at DD's basket lol. I told everyone she did it herself

simpson · 26/03/2009 20:27

Lucky - Only Gina Ford book i ever looked at was the potty training one and it was quite good TBH. She said never let them play with potty then they see it as a toy not potty iyswim.

Also have 2 identical potties if you live on 2 floors one for upstairs one for downstairs. Must be same colour so when they get older, can't do the "I want green potty" etc...

But this is for older toddlers who you want to potty train in one week, not doing it the relaxed way you might iyswim.

Lilyloo - Do I need to boil it for a bit longer? Sea/fish sounds a good idea

simpson · 26/03/2009 20:30

Lilyloo - have just read letter from school again: has to be one boiled egg only (no props) and must be Spring/Easter themed

Lilyloo · 26/03/2009 20:30

Yeah boil it for ages.
Have you not got a little shoe box. The lid helps when he carries it in have seen some lovely creations go 'smash'
We also did a dalmation covered in tipex and black spots too!
The fish one was really good though!

Lucky i guess i am quite creative and love doing arty stuff with the kids! Just find it hard to not take over when they do it 'their way'

Simpson - What about doing one like a chick?

Colour it yellow and get a few feathers?

Lilyloo · 26/03/2009 20:34

Do an easter bunny.
Tip ex it. Put cotton wool balls on for tail. Couple of felt ears and googly eyes.

Or lamb same thing.

A chick painted yellow. Cardboard beak. Little pipe cleaner feet.

Decorate as an easter egg ???

OP posts:
simpson · 26/03/2009 20:39

Have got 2 eggs left so will boil both in case one goes wrong etc then carry it to school in egg box.

Cheers for suggestions guys I will run them past J

I suspect he will go for either Easter egg or a chick (as its yellow - his favourite colour ATM)

Will have to check which arty stuff I have in...

simpson · 26/03/2009 20:42

Am pants at arty stuff and am hoping when kids get older, they won't need my help

AngeChica · 26/03/2009 21:34

hello all ... my hellish week at work over, the busiest of our year, one day I only got to see DS for about half an hour which I hated.

My mum keeps telling me we should have a potty already, as she did in the 70's, they used to put us on as babies after bath, change etc. But I think it was partly to do with less going in the terry nappies that way! but me and bro were apparently potty trained much earlier than they do nowadays (my mum )

that's a huge positive step madmouse.

glad to hear MrsMc is Ok gingeme, still {shock} and {awe} at pg ladies, I would be suffering from ehaustion by now if I had to literally run around after DS as I do and I was pg! is it your birth stories in the book or toddler advice

bye fr now. I'm praying for a good night.

JustKeepSwimming · 27/03/2009 09:29

Morning

Lucky- i wouldn't personally with the potty thing though i have heard it works for some. accept that with a girl you will get it sorted relatively early anyway (IME). I'm of the wait until they give me some clues group and ds1 is NOT giving me any!! all his friends are there or on their way. i'm waiting till he's ready but am being put under pressure from all directions to 'force' him (one other mum of a boy is spending evenings doing laundry as he's SO not ready but she decided to start. he has multiple accidents every day and i an't see the point myself...)
Simps - hoping ds1 will go straight to loo as he'll be that much older than the girls when he finally gets round to it!

Oh and re food - ignore, then tidy up! we have a dustbuster - lifesaver
she'll eat what she wants and chuck what she doesn't, lol!

(madmouse - we are def soft parents here!)

G - fab about being in one of the books!!! which one and what did you say????
PMSL at the Kleeneze man!

Lilyloo - the costume sounds FAB! grr at that woman and the insurance!
Really like the decoration pics, well done!
So is L on the top bunk and M on the bottom already? or L on the bottom for now with M still in with you?

We have had to decorate a picture of an egg for pre-school and i have to admit i 'helped' more than i should have well it will be obv so he won't win (i hope!)
Simps - good luck with the eggs

Ange - sounds like a tough week

MrsMc - in case you're lurking - hi there

right, need to wake ds2 so we can go out to playgroup...

simpson · 27/03/2009 09:47

Morning all

Going to baby clinic this morning to get DD weighed, if I can persuade DS to finally finish his breakfast He has taken a hour so far....

Back later....

Gingeme · 27/03/2009 12:09

Afternoon ladies.
Another good night here Not sure if Ive trained myself not to hear them in the morning now or if they did actualy wake at 6.30 this morning .
Have just been to view the photos OMG we have got such a hard task to choose some they are all sooooooo lovely
Well thats about it for now.
Off for some lunch.
See you all later. xx

LuckySalem · 27/03/2009 17:01

Hello all.

Re:Potty I dared to mention the idea in toddler group today and got told I'd scar her for life if I tried that so early and also that I should let her be a baby for as long as she wants. Felt rotten but I am going to let her have a go. She does give definate signs that she's ready for a wee such as squatting and shouting me so I think its worth a try but I will definatly be doing it slowly.
I'm going to give it a week and if we're having LOADS of accidents then I'll put it off again. Am only going to do it at home though.

JustKeepSwimming · 27/03/2009 18:40

evening all

Simps - did you get to clinic?

G - wow that's amazing to get them all to 6.30!!! &

Holding out for clock change here....

Lucky - do whatever you're comfortable with

Have to tell you about DS1 yesterday - we went to the shops round the corner just for an excuse for fresh air, so we went to the sweetie shop to get milky bars for the boys (T's choice).
he decides he's going to be a dog in the shop

so then crawls around the floor until i tell him that now is not the best time to be a dog....
so he walks around in a funny way saying he is a dog that walks...

i just carried on..... &

sometimes he can be so embarrassing!!!!

good day today, playgroup this morning & friends round this afternoon, managed to go out in the garden for an hour before it got too cold.
H's day:
5.30 up (not normal for him)
7.30-9.30 sleep (i woke him for playgroup)
by 10.45 drooping and semi-dozing on my lap!
home for lunch
12.15ish bed until .....
...
...
...
5.15 when DH woke him for tea
has had tea & milk, will change him in a mo into pjs then fully expect him to go to bed fine at 7.

a 5 hour nap??? and he's not ill, well a cough and a cold but nothing major.
DH getting concerned so i said i would speak to nurse when we go for mmr in a few weeks. i'm not really concerned - envious perhaps, lol.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 27/03/2009 18:50

Ladies I am about to attempt a mammoth catch up so hopefully will post back in about 5 hours

LuckySalem · 27/03/2009 20:06

JKS - I wouldn't worry about the sleeping. DD does that sometimes (normally if we've all gone for a sleep in the big bed) she sleeps normally that night as well so it may just be that he needed a catch-up.
By all means speak to nurse if you want to but I doubt it'll be anything.

Have had a brilliant day with A today We went to toddler group where she made an easter card all by herself - Well I put glue on the egg and then she put loads of different coloured paper on it by herself then we went to tesco's shopping and she behaved so well - apart from picking up a teething ring and chomping on it so I assumed she wanted it to help with her teeth, bought it brought it home and its on the floor now unused . Then Silly Barts where she had LOADS of fun, was really funny. The bouncy castle broke and went flat, it took a while for her to see that happen and then when she noticed it flat she stood there shouting at it (imagine hand on hips, bent over pointing) I was in hysterics.
We've got home, she's had a nap & eaten her tea with a fork (thankyou simpson) then she's "helped" me with the washing

Been such a joy to have her and i'm sure tomorrow will be a pain but ahh well, I'll just make sure that today stays in my memory.

Have had an ok day myself except that I remembered last night that I had to go to hospital tomorrow about my tooth and am pooping myself. Luckily it's only a consultation but still [shudder]
Also have found cat poo in my yard its not my cats cos they make enough mess in their litterboxes upstairs just had to hose it away as I can't risk little miss finding it.
Came home from Tesco's and had to park away from our normal spot forwards to someones gate (if ya get me) and some idiot came and parked right up my arse blocking me in idiota!

Anyways

Mixedmama - Hope you enjoy your catchup

JustKeepSwimming · 27/03/2009 20:42

I agree Lucky but if i don't ask i'll feel silly every time someone asks if he's sick, etc.
sounds like a lovely day

Mixedm - enjoy catching up, lol, see you sometime....

off to bed soon, tried to fix a Thomas toy and have screws everywhere but one screw won't come out, argh.....

LaTrucha · 27/03/2009 21:04

Well you ladies ahve been chatting nicely! I was worried this thread was slowing down. Well done you!

I'm sorry, I'm not up to a catch-up but I have read.

Sabela is so frustrated at the moment because she can't move herself. Neither does she want to do any of the things that will help her walk / crawl ANYTHING. She keeps rolling, and looking at me as if to say, 'Look what I can do!' And I feel like saying, but yes you could do that TEN months ago, it's just that you haven't bothered to.' She's so irritable and just wants to be walked and walked. I tried to teach her how to pull herslef up in the cot today but she had no patience with it. She tried it once or twice and then just whinged.

She has fallen now four times on the tiles and is terribly scared of them but she is also lazy as hell too. If she can't do something straight away, she just doesn't bother trying.

Ok, now cue chorus of 'She'll do it in her own time,' please, because I'm beginning to get paranoid.

Oh! and a FB question. Someone who I obviously went to school with has requested to be a friend (he is FB friends with the people I went to school with). Trouble is, I cannot remember him at all. I feel awful. Is it really rude not to respond to a firend request?

madmouse · 27/03/2009 21:09

LaT, especially for you she will do it in her own time, she is only 14 months fgs

Pefectly ok not to accept everyone as friends. Your facebook, your rules.

Lilyloo · 27/03/2009 21:14

Evening all!
We managed to go to the park for couple of hours after school with neighbour and her kids (trying out the new 7 seater )
5 kids , 2 adults , pushchair , 2 scooters and 2 footballs later (it's fab!!!!!)
Luckily it stayed fine then we called to McD afterwards! And dare i say it M had a fruit shoot and a Happy Meal Will probably get thrown off mnet now! LOL!

OP posts:
Lilyloo · 27/03/2009 21:18

LaT yes one day when she had enough of rolling she will walk (she obviously not irritated or frustrated enough yet )

Lucky sounds like a lovely day with A , those are the days you want to pack up in a little box and open on the bad ones

JKS pmsl at the 'dog' incident
