mummydreamer - god do I know what you mean about having aged over the last 6 months. I have almost a half head of grey hair now too which I am sure wasn't there 6 months ago. Bags under my eyes that could carry half of Sainsbury's!

Lovely!

Hope Darcie is feeling better now.

Nothing much else to report. Essie is a dream as always and seems [whispers] to be getting a bit better at night - last night just a feed at 12.30am and one at 5.30am. She does love her food bless her so that maybe having an effect. Aprilmeadow, she can go without much milk at all during the day now she is on solids. I wouldn't worry about it if Jack is gaining weight ok and seems happy.

Count me in on the ageing front, too. It's quite scary! I suppose having a baby takes all the nutrients out of your body or something. There has to be a reason for my generally jaded and lacklustre appearance!

Sleep was improving here (thank God) until a couple of days ago when DD developed a problem breathing. Took her to the GP, who diagnosed mild bronchiolitis. Then she got MUCH worse last night, really gasping and wheezing and barking, and on the advice of our local out-of-hours GP, we took her to A&E. There for six hours, and were just about to go home, thinking we were never going to be seen and maybe DD would be better off at home, when the doctor came and assessed her. Turns out she had croup. They gave her oral steroids and have told us to monitor her closely for the next 48 hours.

Horrible horrible horrible . I am very glad we went to A&E though. Can't believe we would otherwise have just been sitting it out.

Quite good it happened this week, too (if any week is 'good' for these things) as I don't go back to work until next week and DH is on half term. Only thing is we were hoping to have a couple of afternoons out, but there's no chance of that with the little one so peaky.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Kelly1978 · 28/10/2005 10:20

that sounds really scary verso, hope she better soon.

aprilmeadow, sometimes they do drop their milk intake and then it usually picks up again. I was struggling to get more than 16oz into the dts a few weeks ago, but now they goen abck up to 32oz! also, if milk at night isn't bothering you, then dont listen to the Hv. I feed mine when they wake as I have found they only wake when they really need it.

mummdreamer - how did the move go? We have jsut moved and the dts seem more settled in their own room. or it could be the country air.

dt2 is seriously sending me loopy. I'm stuck in the hosue and all he wants to do is scream, eat and sleep. I'm really strugglign to stay calm with him. dt1 is still happy as larry.

Forgot to say - I start back at work this coming Thursday. Wish me luck! Can't quite see where the time has gone. I probably won't be able to log on quite so often, so here's a big THANK YOU to everyone who has listened to my whingeing and offered support, particularly when things were so difficult in the first few months. I hugely appreciate it.

I'll be back!

aprilmeadow · 28/10/2005 21:31

Good luck Verso - i have been back at work for weeks now. The time just flys by!!! Scary to think that before we know it we will be approaching their 1st birthdays......

Thank you ladies for your advice - think i will stick with what we know works, and I guess Jack will tell us when he is good and ready to drop the night feed

oh, i had a proud mummy moment tonight when i picked Jack up from Nursery. He had made us a happy halloween card. It had a pumpkin drawn on the front with a chubby little painted hand print in the centre - next week they are doing a firework themed paint thingy

aprilmeadow · 28/10/2005 21:31

should say 'back at work for 4 weeks'

checky · 28/10/2005 22:03

Aprilmeadow have you tried splitting milk and solids. Mine is 29 weeks and I feed him milk at 7 am 3pm and 7pm and give him solids at 8 am 12 pm and 5pm with juice and water. He always seems keen to take everything because i am not mixing solids with milk.

Just a thought...!

aprilmeadow · 29/10/2005 10:07

ooh now that sounds like it is worth a try..... Thanks

alux · 29/10/2005 11:16

nice to check in and hear everyone's news. DD is a 'very thriving baby' according to the consultant paediatrician we saw on Thursday. We discussed her eczema possibly being predisposed to it as her dad had it terribly right into primary school and also that my side of the family also has milk allergy linked to being American Indians. It has improved loads by me cutting out the one formula feed she used to have at nursery and me laying off dairy (I love cheese!) as well as oiling her up 3 times a day with olive oil and sudocream. He has booked her in for some tests in 3 weeks time.

She finally cut a tooth a week ago! Yay! Got christened last week Sunday! Yay! And painted a cut out pumpkin at nursery. Yay!

I was absolutely stunned when I picked her up at nursery on Wednesday. She feeding herself from her own bottle. The nursery nurse says she pushes away anyone who would hold it. And to think that just 7 weeks ago it was a huge fight to get her to drink 2 oz in 3 hours from a bottle.

Now if she would only start to have more than 4 babyspoonfuls of purée at any one time.......

Merlin · 04/11/2005 17:31

Haven't posted for ages - but just had a quick scan and it's nice to hear how all the babies are thriving! (Maybe not so the Mums with not much sleep!!!)

Just wanted to tell you that Ryan has cut his first tooth today (7 mths on the 10th)!!!

DelGirl · 04/11/2005 17:34

awwww bless little toothy . How was he with it, ok?

Still waiting for dd's! She is in bed as I type this, too tired to eat much and so only solution was an early night. It remains to be seen whether she'll be up later hmmm.

Merlin · 04/11/2005 17:36

he's poorly - sounds like a wheezy old man, but doc said chest is clear. dosing him up at night with calpol and nurofen in thr slim chance he may sleep for more than an hour!

DelGirl · 04/11/2005 17:38

, take some of dh's knock out drops and leave him a bottle on the side . Kidding!

Verso · 07/11/2005 06:58

Congratulations on the tooth, Merlin! I send sympathy about the poorliness though. DD was v v v poorly a couple of weeks ago (croup) and it took ages for her to get over it. Still a bit chesty now in fact. It's miserable!

Well, I survived my first couple of days back at work last week. Now here goes with my first full week (apart from Wednesday, which is my day off). Eeek! I have a HUGE amount to do, as everyone seems to have been saving things 'for when she gets back'. Oh well. Nice to feel useful and wanted, I suppose. One thing I hadn't realised was that I would feel really excited about getting home to see DD each evening. I had just focused on how much I was going to miss her (which I do) but didn't realise I would be all full of anticipation every night. It's nice!

Hope everyone has a great week.

Verso · 07/11/2005 06:59

P.S. aprilmeadow, the halloween card sounds sooooo sweet. Bless!

aprilmeadow · 07/11/2005 21:42

Congrats on the tooth, Jack is still really gummy, although hopefully it shouldnt be too long as everything goes in the mouth and he keeps getting flushed cheeks.

Got a beautiful picture of Jack sitting up all on his own this evening. will post a picture in members profile.

Got told today that if I wanted to then i could cut down to 4 days a week!! And the best news is, is that the money we will save by not paying for nursery on that day will cover the money i will lose for only working 4 days, so really it is a win win situation!

hope all mummies and babies are doing well x

Merlin · 07/11/2005 21:45

Thanks everyone - Ryan too is learning to love sitting up. Bit wobbly on the floor, but loves sitting up in his big pram so I can wheel him around the kitchen to watch me doing things!!! Amazing how interested he is in peeling vegetables!!

Is anyone else finding it weird seeing the April 2006 thread - ahhhhhh the memories .... the heartburn, the sleepless nights, the sickness .....

starshaker · 07/11/2005 21:45

i keep forgetting about this bit. so hows all the april babies doin alana is great apar from a wee cold. she crawled for the first time on sunday no teeth yet and is just so adoreable

Merlin · 07/11/2005 21:46

aprilmeadow · 07/11/2005 21:52

Jack had a really busy day at nursery today, they do lots of arts and crafts on a monday, which is nice. They also do baby sing and sign, which he apparantly loves. Will have to go and buy the DVD so that when he is a little older i will know what he is asking for, and also so i can do it with him.

aprilmeadow · 07/11/2005 21:57

DH and I have mentioned no.2, but decided to wait until about this time next year before we start trying again. He isnt totally convinced, partly down to the fact that as Jack hasnt figured out the sleeping through bit, and my DH doesnt like the though that it could be 2-3years before he gets a decent nights sleep!!

alux · 08/11/2005 00:35

Maya cut her second tooth on Saturday. She has figured out sitting up for a while now. She caan easily use you to get herself into standing though a bit wobbly. She can also wiggle backwards to climb off your lap and onto the floor after which she seems quite pleased with herself. She manages to crawl backwards (more like tummy shuffle) too.

I just put her to bed as for the past two weeks she has not been having much more than an hour's nap at nursery on any day and comes home shattered. She slept from 4 pm till 10 pm, just whinging to feed and going back to sleep. Not too bad for me either as I was also knackered and pretty much slept from 6 to half eight tonight. So after a big poo and a bath, she went down at midnight.

Nope, I am not broody about the april 06 thread. my late pg and labour were rotten and still with me plus with dh being away till she was 10 wks was awful. Plus going back to teaching full time is knackering. We were driving down the M1 one night in August going on holiday and I broke down in tears at a certain spot which reminded me of when Maya was just 8 wks old and I felt like I had to get away so I drove 3.5 hrs to stay with a friend with this teeny baby to get away as the lonliness and relentlessness was driving me doolally.

leggymamba · 11/11/2005 12:05

Hello everyone - I am also impressed with the crawling. Patrick just gets places by rolling. dd is getting very angry about him rolling onto her train tracks - not looking forward to the shouting when he can move effectively! We haven't got any teeth but hoping somethings happening as he's got a temperature, bright red cheeks and is constantly moaning so would like to hope it's for a reason!

Just had two freinds tell me they are pregnant - I obviously didn't manage to put them off having a second . Do occassionally feel a bit broody, miss the exciting bit about being pregnant, bring baby home etc. but come back to my senses when remember the first 12 weeks!
