Merlin - Jack was the same, once the teeth had made an appearence it seemed to solve the whole sleeping issue. HE has now slept through for the 7 of the last 9 nights - hasnt gone through the night for about 5 months!!!

Lucy - Glad to been of some help. I did ask NOT to be told when he had done new things, and they said it was their policy anyway - should be the same in most places, but always good to make them aware of not wanting to be told.

Isnt it strange to see our babies growing up so quickly... I cant believe how fast Jack can get across the floor and pull himself up. He stood against the coffee table and sofa for 30mins yesterday, and if it hadnt been lunch time then i think he would have stayed there even longer! He really understands Hello and Goodbye - you get a wave and a smile whenever you say either of those words

Thank you Aprilmeadow and Leggymamba, you've made me feel a lot better about the whole thing! I rang the nursery yesterday to change her start date to a week earlier so that I can start her off with short days before I go back to work. Nursery said to do 3 settling in sessions the week before she starts but have asked to do 5 so she will have been going for a fortnight before I go back. Really like the idea of getting them to take pics of her, will definitely ask them. Hope they have same policy of not telling you what 'firsts' they do at nursery, will ask them not too. Must have been so lovely seeing Jack in action!
Freya finally got a tooth yesterday and has spent today showing me just how sharp it is by biting me at every opportunity! She also surprised me by standing up on her own today, has been pulling herself up on the sofa for a while but today just kept letting go and balancing so she could hold her toys with two hands. It made her look so grown up, she's not my little baby any more! All my friends with children kept saying how quick they grow up when she was born but really amazed at how fast each stage goes by. She'll be going out with unsuitable boys and slamming doors before I know it!

Talking of teeth - front top one just poking through today and one the other side looks like it's about to make an appearance. Bless him - he's been really crabby and has a chest infection too, but last 2 nights has slept like a log - long may it last!!!

Doen't worry about the teeth - dd didn't get teeth until her first birthday - hv said she's likely to keep her milk teeth longer too - so maybe will give me a chance to get her to brush them!

Try not to worry too much about nursery - enjoy the time you've got left at home (easier said than done!). I've had nothing but good experiences with the nursery dd goes to she's really happy there and has driven me mad over christmas asking if it was nursery today. She was going through the clingy phase before she started, I found letting loads of other people hold her before she started helped a lot. Her carers just let her look out the window or blow bubbles when I went to distract her. My nursery took photos of a smiling baby during the day to show she was happy. It really helped - If your nursery hasn't got a camera to do this you could ask them to use yours. Good luck - let us know how it goes (it doesn't get any easier second time around - I'm also dreading ds going in April!)

Thats what i thought Lucy. Didnt occur to me to look at the top. I only caught a glimpse of it when he was on the changing mat. Then had to prise his mouth open for DH to confirm that it was a tooth! Looks quite odd

I felt the same when i had to settle J into nursery. But i had to say to myself that i had chosen the nursery, i knew it was good, and that the ladies all were really lovely, and that Jack would have a great time. He would get to do so many more things than i would think of doing and he would become a very sociable little boy mixing with other babies and adults.

He loves it! They send him home with paintings and we have had a halloween card and a Christmas card from him, with hand and foot prints on. And the smiles he gives when i go and collect him are just beautiful. And as i found out this morning, they dont tell you what new things your child has done until you mention that you have witnessed it. Jack has been comando crawling/shuffling on his front for a while now and this morning DH and i saw him properly crawl on his hands and knees - it was great because i didnt know he had done it and it was like it was the first time, we clapped and he smiled and clapped as well.

So basically - after my essay - it will be hard that first time, but you know that Freya is in the best possible hands (other than yourself of course) and you are only at the other end of a phone if they need to call you. Also, they dont mind you calling to check she is ok.

happy new year all! think freya must be the only one with no teeth yet. I can see the two at the bottom under the gum and she is fed up, hot cheeked and dribbly so hope they appear properly soon. I can also feel the fang type ones at the top but can't see them. I thought it was always front middle after bottom middle so interested that Jack got his fangs already Aprilmeadow. Thought it was odd that could feel those but not top front ones but obviously not! Settling F in at nursery in a few weeks and dreading it - so worried she won't be happy and cry all day! Can anyone else with babies in nursery offer any reassurance??!! Sure it will be worse for me than her but she is just starting to get separation anxiety so timing awful!

I think cutting teeth is like waiting for a bus!!! Took 8mths for one to come, and now no.3 is on the way! We found tooth no.2 about 4 days ago, it is a fang on the top - didnt even think to look there... I saw it the day before, but thought it was rice (jack was having lunch. Now the fang on the other side is on its way through. I guess it explains why he has been soooo grumpy for the last week or so.

Hope everyone is doing well, and had a fab new year.

Happy new year! Have just about recovered after not going to bed until 4am (how stupid?) Patrick was up at 6 and dd at 7 bringing her friend into us too - no such thing as a lie in! Even more daft was inviting friends around - had 8 kids under 3 running around until 10.30. At least it saved on babysitters!

We also got a first tooth yesterday - feel bad about all the swearing I've been doing in the middle of the night for the past 2 weeks. Just had the 8 month check and he failed the hearing test - he had a hissy fit at the hv as she wouldn't let him have the rattle she was shaking - he didn't really care about the other hv making noises around him - although I got told off for laughing at her! He's now 11.5kg, 2kg less than dd is currently. No wonder I've got a bad back! Apparently he's tall though so was told not to worry about obesity yet. All though my mum (love her ) said I should give him a big drink of water before a meal to fill him up so he won't eat so much.

Feeling a touch of the new year blues, really don't want my baby to grow up so fast and really really don't want to go back to work!

Yay!!!! Jack has mastered 'mum mum mum'. So chuffed. I did say to him yesterday that i would love it if he could say that as my xmas present .

We had his xmas party at nursery on Thursday. we played pass the parcel and he met santa. I got a lovely picture of him sitting on Santa holding his little present of a cuddly reindeer.

Hope all mummies and babies are doing well.

Hi

i haven't had a letter about darcies 8 month check and she's 9 months on the 30th. And she was due a hearing test at 8 months and nothing there either.
Shes started to do the commando crawl forwards now quite funny!

Report
kiskidee · 12/12/2005 01:32

oh yes, got a card thru to see the hv for the 8 month check on 04/01/06. I am wondering if I should bother too. I am thinking I will more out of curiousity as the card is from a new hv. I am curious to see if she will be better than hv1 who recommended i top up dd with formula at 2 wks cause I had flu, which, funnily, I have at the moment and still managing to bf w/out formula .

Also have a separate appt for the hearing test. I feel like they are wasting my time as I see no problem with dd's hearing but I guess I will end up humouring.
