Am also in the sooooooooo tired can't function club. Patrick has spent last 3 nights either crying flat out or groaning non stop. He's got a cold and I'm thinking teeth too. Seems to be typical male and making a cold into man flu - didn't realise it started so young!

Any tips on teething would be helpful - have done calpol, granules, frozen carrot - just about to try neurofen (might resort to whiskey tonight!)

alux · 09/10/2005 17:14

who's the whiskey for?

aprilmeadow · 09/10/2005 18:32

Have you tried Medised? Boots & Superdrug sell it. It's similar to calpol, but has a mild seditive in it. Have given it to Jack when he has been in real pain with the invisible teeth. He had it the other night and slept through for the first time in weeks. Can also be used to ease breathing when they are snotty.

Hey Girls

Sorry to hear that some of you are still being kept up in the nite, i have no advice to offer as Darcie has been going through since 7 days old!

We r both okay i've been back at work a month now and love it, and Darcie loves her childminder so we have the best of both worlds.
I've nearly finished all my xmas shopping and thought i'd treat myself at the weekend because now i'm getting Jamies money i went and brought a brand spanking new car, Hyundai Getz 1.3 Gsi 5dr, i pick it up thursday and can't wait.

Darcie weighs 15lb 14oz still but is shuffling around on her belly alot more, she can now bring her legs up and support herself on her arms so i don't think it will be much longer till she crawls. aaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!

Hope everyone is keeping well

Leggy - what do you do with the frozen carrot?! I haven't heard of that one, but could do with tips myself as we've had a few bad nights recently too. Mind you, DD also had a stinker of a cold from starting nursery too (which she has generously passed on to me), so she was in a pretty bad way all things considered. I tried Medised but she spat it out (then I tasted it and I could totally understand why!). Mind you, she takes Calpol ok and that's pretty vile too.

Back to work in a few weeks' time (DD just settling at nursery at the moment - taking it slowly). They p*ed me off yesterday by telling me the reason she had had an unsettled day was because I am still breastfeeding and it makes it very hard on her during the day. She takes a bottle fine (I know some don't) so I didn't really think that was called for. Still a bit cross now, in fact.

My company have been taken over and my boss was made redundant last week so I don't really know what I'm going back to. At the moment, I'm clinging to the fact it's legally very difficult to make a woman on maternity leave redundant (automatic unfair dismissal springs to mind).

Hope everyone is surviving, especially those of us with babies that like to be alert and active during the night (just me trying to put a positive spin on the situation ).

alux · 12/10/2005 09:35

how cheeky of your nursery to say that. I know that dd was unsettled and stressed starting nursery and with me bf. but they never implied that bf was making it more difficult for her. she was rubbish at taking a bottle too. she is perfectly happy now and taking ebm when there. She started full time 6 wks ago.

leggymamba · 13/10/2005 16:11

Verso - Cut raw carrot into sticks (quite thick) and put in freezer - nice for them to chew on as cold on gums. Doesn't have to be frozen just cold and apple/celery etc work just as well. Not really a night thing but works well during the day.

Hope Darcie keeps sleeping for you - but don't talk to soon as they all wake up in the end!!!! DD (2.5 never woke up before) but has regular 4.30 trips to our bed over the last couple of weeks. Thankfully we've just had a king size bed but still feels cramped with 4 in!

Will be looking out for medised, if I take enough might sleep through

leggymamba · 13/10/2005 16:13

Motherp - just seen your post on another board - you were talking about microfibre cloths from tesco to use as boosters - where abouts (what dept) would I find them?

aprilmeadow · 18/10/2005 17:25

Hello everyone,

Not sure I can believe where the last six months has gone! Even though Jack has been here a for just a few months, it feels like i have never been without him.

Jack has managed to pick up his first bug from nursery - a lovely tummy one at that!! Luckily - if that is possible - it all happend over the weekend, so at least he didnt have to stay off from nursery. Having to burn candles to deal with the lovely aroma in our house.

Hope all mummies and babies are doing well. x

motherpeculiar · 19/10/2005 14:18

Hi all

I know, hasn't the 6 months just flown. I am back at work 3 days a week now and it just seems normal (if horrible!) Esther has taken to solids like a duck to water and cries when the bowl is finished. She is also happily taking a bottle now (after a couple months trying) so I can get a rest in the middle of the night at last.

lEGGYm - sorry, haven't been on for a while - I get the microfibre cloths in the cleaning section of tesco, I think near where they keep washing up cloths, gloves etc. On the website they are "from the scouring pads and cloths shelf". They are brilliant value. I also have some of the rather pretty lavender microfibre cloths which cost 99p. They seem a bit thicker and are a bit larger too, but I guess not as fab value. Which nappies are you using?

Hello all,
Glad to see you are all doing well. My terrible two are still up lots during the night. Ravi is on his hands and knees rocking back and forth ready to crawl - any ideas how long it takes to get from that to actually moving?
Akshay has finally mastered sitting so they are both pleased with themselves!

motherpeculiar · 21/10/2005 09:31

kelly, am with you on the tots in the night syndrome. Aaaarrgh!

still mad about her though

Freya up loads in the night too - driving us mad! She also thinks solids are rubbish and just purses her lips when she see's the spoon coming - have tried everything but no luck. Other than that she is delicious and very smiley and happy most of the time. Glad to hear all the babies are well and heres hoping the sleeping improves soon! x

maybe its a girly thing not wanting to eat solids - jack cant get enough of it and bleets if the food runs out before he is finished. He is far more interested in food than he is in milk. i struggle to get 21oz into him a day. still he doesnt seem to be suffering as he weighs in at 20lbs 3oz.

Just spent the afternoon making lots of yummy food for jack. HAve made a lentil/sweet potato/carrot thing, a chicken stock to go with the mass of frozen veg puree and some fruit (apple, pear & plum).

Jack tried toast for the first time today along with rice cakes and thought they were both fab, although most of it did end up as a soggy mess! DH nearly wretched at having to touch half eaten soggy rice cakes!!

leggymamba · 22/10/2005 20:04

I'm in the dropped milk in favour of solids camp - ds has taken to screaming whenever he sees a yogurt pot! He's also taken to lumpy food really well. Took dd ages to stop gagging on lumps. Maybe it's because I'm lazier and can't be bother to get the blender out so its lumpy or nothing! Was eating whole brocoli tonight.

MP - am using mainly motherease (favourites are sandy's) but seem to have developed nappyaholicism and have one of most!). Have just treated ds to brand new ellas house bumhugger for nights as our local council gives £30 for each child in cloth nappies. Although dd has taken a shine to them and is wearing one to bed at the moment - despite nearly 2 year gap they are in the same size! Will look for lavendar cloths tomorrow.

Lucy99 · 23/10/2005 19:02

thought maybe i'd cracked it today, she ate a whole bowl of green mush for dinner - opened mouth for every spoonful. Felt really pleased with myself then she immediately vomited whole lot up! She has reflux so used to her sicking up milk constantly but it's definitely more disgusting when it's green. think she is just a bulimic milkaholic

Verso · 24/10/2005 15:36

DD LOVES her solids, so the girl-thing theory doesn't work for us, I'm afraid!

mummydreamer · 24/10/2005 15:48

Hi everyone - just caught up on some of the posts. Babies all seem to be going great guns.

Motherpeculiar and Lockets - I'm so with you on the lack of sleep front. My little darling still wakes 3-4 times a night. He is on solids now and last night he woke at 4am and 6am - so I am ever hopeful!!!!

Have contemplated giving up the breast feeding in an attempt to get him to sleep longer at night but just can't bring myself to do it! Think I've aged 6 years in the last 6 months!!!!!

Anyway, we also moved house last week so maybe new country environment will mean an extra sleepy boy!

Darciesmum · 25/10/2005 20:01

Hello nice to see all babies doing well!

Darcie has been ill since friday, temp of 101.8, has gone off her food and was struggling to get milk down, she was really quiet and laid back, and waking up in the nite. where as she is normally sitting up trying to grab and eat everything and is normally a very happy baby that sleeps through, but wasn't at all the weekend, took her to the drs yesterday and was told to keep an
eye on her, but seems alot better today much more happier and smily so i think i have my Darcie back today.

And friday even tho she wasn't feeling well started to clap it brought tears to my eyes as it was the first time and now all she does is clap its great.

I definetly think she is feeling better as sitting up back onto food and drinking her milk again, so hopefully by the end of the week will be back on 3 meals a day and 3 8oz bottles. and toast and biscuts and the rest lol and has gone back to sleeping through!

aprilmeadow · 27/10/2005 15:39

i have a question and was hoping to pick a brain or two.......

Jack is on 3 meals a day plus the odd nibble here and there and loves his food, but has gone off of milk. he will have his milk at 6.30pm (8oz) and 10.30pm (8oz) no problem, but the 7am (6oz), 11.30am (5oz) and 2.30pm (6oz) he is really fussy about. I make his breakfast up with about 3oz and struggle to get the rest down him. At 11.30 (lunch) he might have 2oz max, and the 2.30pm is variable either 2 or 6oz.

I need to start thinking about cutting out the 10.30pm feed - did cut it our for about 2 weeks as he was sleeping through, but had to reintroduce it as he was waking 2-3times a night - but am worried as that would mean his milk intake would only be a max of 19oz which i am not sure is enough.

Does anyone have any advice? Should also say that we are still giving milk at night when he wakes, but got told off by HV and have started to cut it down and eventually cut it out. Should i be doing this or just wait until Jack decides he doesnt need it??

sorry long post!!! any help gratefully received

Darciesmum · 27/10/2005 19:53

Hello April Meadow

Darcie has 3 meals a day and 2 maybe 3 bottles a day she normally has juice or water with her lunch and picks in the day, and she is fine.

Maybe you should try 3 meals with a bottle bout 1/2 after each and water or juice for the rest of the day, thats what i do with darcie and she is gaining weigh lovely!
