sponge wonderful news! So happy for you and will keep my fingers crossed until the 12th!

libra oow! I hope your elbow is healing okay and thanks for thinking about us with the helicopter crash. I am so thankful all the men were okay. It would hit too close to home otherwise.

sa I hope caitlin gives in soon - and that you cope okay!

bitofadramaqueen · 26/02/2009 19:19

Evening all - got to pack for yet another visit to london for yet another wedding so will keep it short. Sympathies to those that need them and hellos to everyone else Virtual G&T's to everyone just for the fun!

Aberdeen - its a huge problem as you say in areas where the schools catchment areas are so seperate in terms of family income, and yes, lots of cynicism about people who go to church for a short time to get their kids into a school.

Sponge I'm very pleased all going well.

Must dash! Try not to fill a complete thread while I'm gone

josey · 26/02/2009 20:18

Libra I shuddered when I read that hope it heals soon.

Essie very interested about the feeding and the sheeps milk!!! Could I add that it maybe discussed with the BF that it is sometimes taken completely out of your hands IE with me I obviously couldnt BF but I was still able to skin to skin to alow me to Express even though it was only 4 weeks.

AH lol at the pigtails, im only that chavy on physio days usually because she cant see when her head flops it has been cut twice I was thinking today you havent seen O since op is that right?

josey · 26/02/2009 20:21

Oops forgot to say, by accident my children are attending a fab school, it has been in the top 4 of Scotland for the last 5 years running.

abdnhiker · 26/02/2009 20:23

No, haven't seen O since her op so it's great to see her without the tube! And pigtails are cute (when you're O's age!)

and our schools out here are really good too - I think it's far less of a problem in rural areas.

abdnhiker · 26/02/2009 20:24

p.s. josey - have sent an email with directions for tomorrow. Text me if you need more info, otherwise see you tomorrow morning!

DebInAustria · 26/02/2009 20:53

Libra - ouch your elbow sounds painful - how did you do it?

SA - sorry to hear about Caitlin, Ethan was awful for biting me last week, I did exactly the same as you and since then his feeding has been a bit hit and miss too. Not a complete strike but on some feeds he's been doing the arching back thing. It's not nice being rejected is it? I just stop and try again later, eventually he takes it. Hope you have a better night

Sponge - great news, hope you're being well looked after

Hello to everyone else, short of time here, Nigels Birthday today, Ethan full of cold and needing extra cuddles, got to go and give Nigel some attention now!!

abdnhiker · 26/02/2009 21:41

It's Cory's (DH) birthday too - hence I'm turning off the computer...

pureeandpearls · 26/02/2009 22:09

josey · 26/02/2009 22:57

Sometimes I think I have it made that Oli cant do these harum scarum things

Happy Bday to MRDebs and Mr AH(looking forward to the cake sharing)

systemsaddict · 27/02/2009 06:53

oh this is no fun at all!! spent all last night in bath or bed with C with boobs out doing skin to skin, she kept almost feeding then turning away screaming, whimpered on and off and didn't fall asleep properly till after 10, the worst was as she was going to sleep she was doing the sucking thing with her mouth ... she hates this more than I do. Then expressing at midnight and again now and I am terrified of getting mastitis as I am getting engorged and sore.

All the progress we made with controlled crying and sleeping in her cot is out the window! But, it has broken her feeding to sleep habit, she woke twice in the night and had water each time and went off again happily, so that is good. And we did make some progress, she was happily cuddling up to me by the end of the evening, even if she wouldn't actually feed, rather than treating my boobs as if they were looming scary monsters.

There is NO WAY I want breastfeeding to end like this, for either of us, it's really distressing, so I guess we just have to keep at it.

pureeandpearls · 27/02/2009 07:34

(((((hugs)))) systems. Yu poor things. There's absolutely nothing I can suggest but I just want you to know that I am thinking of you- I do hope you all get some sleep and get back where you want to be soon xxxxxxxxx

Off to the babyshow today. Try not to chat too much whilst I'm gone.

josey · 27/02/2009 08:06

SA hugs, strange ? could she have an ear infection?
If she is obviously hungry but refusing I would to be safe get her checked over.

I cant remember the way it links as its from years ago a friend of my DS's but turned out to be ear related.

Must go get ready

AliandHerScallywag · 27/02/2009 08:28

Systems, poor you and poor C . I have no advice, but like P&P am thinking of you.

Didn't post last night, so Sponge: hope you are feeling better and that you had a restful night. Great news about where the little bean is.

abdnhiker · 27/02/2009 08:31

hugs SA! Joesy's suggestion might be worth investigating - I've no other ideas.

AliandHerScallywag · 27/02/2009 08:35

P&P, I think you have the same cot as us. Great video too.

libralady · 27/02/2009 08:43

Morning all,

I've not gone into work today. TBH, can't be arsed but had such a rough night with the pain plus I can't find anything to fit over the cast that is work type. Ended uo having to be cut out of my blouse yesterday after the hospital put on a new cast and couldn't then get the sleeve down again. Bang goes one of my nice blouses.

I fell whilst walking Snowdon so feel a bit stupid really. We hadn't gone far (DS1 & I) and we were just coming back when I just lost my footing on a slippery bit of the path and came down with a thump hitting a rather large rock. Anyhow drove back to Poole the next day and then all the running around with Nan etc, didn't go to the hospital until Tuesday night!

Mum and Dad are taking me shopping later so I'll look out for something suitabke for the office plus I need something for the funeral next Friday.

Yes my Nan was the one who was 100 last August so she had a good innings

FiveGoMadInDorset · 27/02/2009 09:03

josey sorry only just seen your question. I met my friend when we both started the same boarding school at 11 so not really up on how they worked as a family before then. I do know that her sister was at a weekly boarding school if you can call it that from quite a young age and so when they were all at home together they did things massivly as a family but then they hadn't had to do the day to day care for her. My friend and her older sister I don't think ever lost out but not having all 3 around during the week, gave the parents a rest and an ability to work and to have their own space and so weekends were not too tough. They went out, had friends round, we used to take her sister into the pool, we all ate together. One thing that was noticeable was that my friend and her sister had a very independent streak, they were given responsibility from an early age so helping round the house, sorting out clothes, tidying room was the norm rather than having to be persuaded but I guess this came from having to help round the house, but I also think that because they could do this and their parents sort out their sister then they had quality time together as a family rather than their mother having to do all the housework aswell.

systemsaddict · 27/02/2009 09:43

Thanks for the support guys, it really does help. Sorry feel I was v. selfish with my last post! meant to say:
sponge YAY how exciting, fingers crossed for the next scan
p&p great vid!
libra your arm seems very unfair on top of everything! Not surprised you didn't go in, think a broken arm justifies a few days off if nothing else does!
josey thanks, I got her checked over yesterday just in case 'cos I thought the same thing, the doctor couldn't see anything wrong.

But: I have just seen what looks like a mouth ulcer on the front of her gum where her teeth have just come through, which is a relief because if it is that, it explains what is going on and hopefully will settle down in a few days. And at least she is eating and drinking - it was much worse when she did this at 5 days old and I spent the night feeding her with a syringe ... Keeping everything crossed!!

spongebrainbigpants · 27/02/2009 10:11

Libra, ouch, that sounds really painful - you poor thing. I'm amazed you managed to drive back from Snowdon .

SA, that must be so stressful for you - so glad you've found a reason for her nursing strike. Will take long to heal? Poor little C .

P&P, love the vid! And the one on FB - that's one strong little girl!

Hi to everyone else x

Rolf · 27/02/2009 10:14

SA - poor you, hope things improve

Libra - sorry to hear about your nan. And hope your arm mends quickly. A friend of mine broke her leg last week when she was in London and she can't travel back home for ages.

Sponge - great news about Spongelet

Thea has 8 month check today.Shes miserable at the moment - teething I think - and has a gummy eye. I've forgotten to get her a toothbrush

AliandHerScallywag · 27/02/2009 13:15

Systems - hope that is the cause of C's problems. It must feel much better knowing there is a physical reason rather than fretting (needlessly I should add) that saying "no" to biting put her off. Hope you get a speedy recovery.

Libra - I think you must have had all the misfortune due to in a year over the last few months. Really hope you find something for the funeral and that things look up soon.

neenztwinz · 27/02/2009 13:39

Hi quick post cos no time! Ali, SIL had the HV visit about sleep. Unfortunately HVs do not have a miracle cure up their sleeeves, they just say leave them to cry. Hopefully yours has some better ideas!

Essie, what, you mean they didn't exclusively BF till 23 years old in medieval Wales? They made purees? Oh my, don't go saying that on the weaning boards.

Systems, I so hope the nursing strike is just illness or something temporary. Good luck. My two are not themselves at the moment, very off their food. They were exposed to chicken pox on Tuesday - a friend's baby - so perhaps it is that or just a cold or teeth! Who knows. Theo was up for 2.5hrs last night and Esther woke once too just to feed (not surprising as she ate very little yesterday). I am going to a school reunion tonight, taking Dh and DTs to my mum's and then going to the do. I can hardly be bothered, all the effort it takes to get organised to go anywhere makes it hardly worth it. I am not well either, could do with just going to bed but have a busy weekend ahead! Going to a friend's for luch tomorrow then going to look at trailer tents tomorrow afternoon adn Sunday too.

Taht wasn't sucha short post actually was it.

neenztwinz · 27/02/2009 13:39

And Sponge, great news about the scan!!!!

libralady · 27/02/2009 14:49

Typical, I have time to kepp up to date ane we're relatively quiet on here today.
