Oblomov · 20/02/2009 08:17

Morning.
Interesting. Different therapy schools, recipes and Gatsby, to pot !!!
We are certainly diverse. I think we all 'bring alot to the table'.

Rosa · 20/02/2009 13:56

Well the fairy won and dd is now shattered in bed - Minirosa asleep on the floor - she fell asleep under her gym whilst I was reading to dd so she is still there !!!
Daisy is bumble going lonnger between feeds as with your low fat maybe your milk is adjusting as well maybe we should all join in with you as moral support ( I know I should!)
MM LOL at the poo - they certainly know when to pick the right moments !!
Vbab glad ou had a nice birthday mine ( the day before) started lovely with a cuppa and then it was a normal day finsihing with dd singing happy birthday as dh was late home ( depite being asked)
Still mega cold here but sunny and thankfully no damp !!

barbareebaa · 20/02/2009 15:05

hello!
Have been lurking these past few days as have had a lovely friend staying who did lots of baking (lemon drizzle cake )and let me take lots of baths so was wonderful!!
Will see what I can remember...
daisy poor you sounds awful! Lots of love your way Mrs x
Vbab and Rosa happy birthday!! LadyBuzz lots of good advice I think here - hope you have a good break away to think things through.
Minxy Sounds like the councelling was a positive - hope you get started soon.
MM Excellent comedy timing!!

was really interested to read the AK debate - am in two minds - totally get minxy's POV and love the idea that kids learn to note their own success BUT I think being able to give and recieve praise is an important skill in itself (I find it tremendously difficult to accept praise)

Had William weighed (he hadn't put very much weight on the last time we went) and this week he's put on 5ozs so he is now 15lbs 1oz at 12 weeks - getting better (he's fallen off his centile unfortunately)

Nothing else to report other than my boobs are still fabbo and breastfeeding is a dream Am so glad I stuck at it- was touch and go for a while, fingers crossed it will continue

LoveaDAISYcal · 20/02/2009 15:46

sausage, thanks for that recipe, sounds yummy

barbs....that's fantastic on the weight gain , and that BFing is now going well . Babies often drop a centile from where they were at birth. It's called catch down growth, and as long as weight is still going up, even if slowly, then things are generally OK.

been a busy day here. Stay and Play this morning, where bumble and Jaunita's P sat and smiled and laughed at each other for ages; it was very cute, then the PILs here and I sloped out for a couple of hours to the hospital and the shops.

chocolategal · 20/02/2009 15:48

hi everyone
i too have been lurking a bit last few days, DH been working really long hours so have been sole caregiver to my wee man. A joy but very tiring.
He also is not sleeping good, have gone from being up once overnight to at least 2 or 3 times and feeding at each time ( i cant settle him back to sleep without it!?)
So DH off after today until next wednesday so i will at least get a break, much needed!

Anyway, belated birthday wishes to vbab and rosa
Big get well soon wishes to daisy
Glad the bf going well now barbs and i wouldnt worry too much about W dropping on the centile chart, he is still a great weight for 12weeks!

ladyb hope your few days away makes things a bit clearer for you, and you can then then come back refreshed to build on what you have or to start anew.

question i am thinking about putting E in his cot in his own room, i know guidelines say 6 months but he is outgrowing his moses basket and theres no way his big sleigh cot will fit in my room!
What has/will everyone else do?

chocolategal, P has a crib which is still fine for him in length, but it's not very wide and he has to sleep with his hands through the bars. I'm thinking he won't make it to 6 months in the crib, but like you can't fit a big cot bed in our room. I'm thinking of setting up the travel cot instead until I feel ready to put him in his own room - he always sleeps really well in it when we stay at the grandparents, better in fact as he has more room to move about. So maybe you could do the same if you have a travel cot?

chocolategal · 20/02/2009 16:24

Thanks juanitad I don't have a travel cot, I think I will manage a week of two in the Moses basket then have to decide! I think I will just have to use the monitor & put him in his room, it is right beside my room.
I read that the reason sudden infant deaths are reduced when they are in your room is that they follow your breathing patterns? Does anyone have more info on this?

MerryMarigold · 20/02/2009 16:48

Hi. Just dropping in as I am going back home tonight (been at parents) so probably will have no time to MN for a while .

Barbs, am envying the lemon drizzle. I love it. Must learn how to make, then maybe could tempt you over to our place .

Gatsby - we did it at school too, so my copy was underlined in all sorts of colours etc. It helped me appreciate it, I would have missed most of it otherwise. Daisy, are you named after Daisy?

sausage, recipe sounds yummmmmmy.

Vbab, belated bday wishes

LB, have a good think away! Sounds great to get away for a bit...

My LO's characters are really coming out. It's so sweet. Jude is so laidback, the 'ideal' baby, goes to sleep by himself, sleeps fine in the cot, doesn't even cry when he's hungry, just chats and sucks thumb so you know he's 'ready', sleeps loads and at night as well . Mirissa makes up for this by being hugely high maintenance, wants constant picking up, doesn't sleep a lot, cries quite a bit, 'talks' in high pitched noisy screams! They are both v smiley though . My challenge is to give Jude enough attention with 2 attention seeking kids (ds1, partly age and partly character). Anyone got any ideas of what I can do to balance out?

MrsMattie · 20/02/2009 16:50

Hey all. I sporadically pop in to say howdy to my fellow Nov 08-ers even though I can never keep up with this thread. Hope you and babes all well?

Just to add re: thread title - my DD is definitely a bit of a ginge, despite the fact that my husband is black . Bit of a shock, actually (DS is jet black) but am loving her carroty golden locks . Maybe it's a Nov 08 thing...

LoveaDAISYcal · 20/02/2009 16:56

We moved DD at about four months as she was sleeping through but then started waking as DH and I were disturbing her and her us. She was fine in her own room. If it weren't for the fact that bumble was still feeding up to twice a night I would be tempted to move him now.

Are travel cots that much smaller than normal cots? Ours is only a wee bit shorter I think. The same sheets fit it as the cot anyway.

Juanita, I have been on fire this afternoon re dog poo and have called the Dog Warden and offered to identify Mr PooPoo Poodle if they send someone over at 9am on Monday . I've also emailed our councellor with some suggestions for posters that residents can put up on their fences saying "don't let your dog mess outside my house" or something like that which I have offered to have printed and hand out to the residents. I'm wondering as well if I can get the school involved in an awareness campaign as a lot of parents bring dogs with them to pick up their kids and not all of them look like caring responsible owners.

LoveaDAISYcal · 20/02/2009 16:58

lol merryM....I'm named after my cat; and she had that name when we got her!

Hi MrsM; hope you and the LO are doing well. Golden locks sound lovely

vbab78 · 20/02/2009 20:01

THANKS for the belated birthday wishes .
rosa - Happy belated birthday. Did you say you wedding anniversary too? happy anni if I have missed it. Dont mean to forget just got terrible memory.

ALYSSA NOW IN HER OWN ROOM IN COT BED. [GRIN] Was a little nervous about it but DS was about 14 weeks when we did the same with him. Just that she was sleeping at the top of the moses basket with very little space and kept rubbing her face (eczema). She went down no probs and is also the first night in ages we havent swaddled her. Will have to see how things go. ALSO A did a MASSIVE POO the worst yet so bad that the only place it didnt end up by some miracle was her head . I didnt know whether to feel sick or proud. She seemed quite happy with herself until I starting wiping her down.
DS - Had fantastic day. He is such a loving little soul to everyone. If A cries he gets there before me saying "Mummy Alyssa crying quick". He is so switched on and just amazing. Everyday now he comes out with stuff that make me laugh and proud of how he puts sentences together. He is 2yr 8m and just like A we all say "i'm sure they have been on this earth before".

SECRET STORK - Daisy can you help? I need to let my stork know that I need the letters for the buntin in Alyssa's nursery, like they said to. Now that she is in there it would be the icing on the cake.

I'm off now to have my tea and beer . Then a relaxing bath reading a book. Then a film I think. Assuming A doesnt get upset being in her new surroundings.

phee96 · 20/02/2009 20:23

Hi all,

I haven't been on for a while so there's loads to catch up on, I'll try my best

daisy sorry to hear what you have been going through. My mum had the same problem a few years ago and she used Quorn instead of meat in her usual meals

vbab and rosa happy belated birthday!

We've had a rough couple of days here. A had very bad diarrhea so the Dr told us to not give her milk for 24 hours (she's ff) and to give her sachets of rehydrating salts. She is recovering now but it's hit me hard as it's brought back all of the bad feelings I had about giving up bf. I'm still producing small amounts of milk so I'm going to try and rebuild my supply as I feel any bm I can give her is good. She's def still not herself though, goes from smiling to crying in an instant and she's normally very placid. She keeps chewing on her fists (or anything else she can get her mouth around) and drooling but her cheeks aren't red. Could she be teething?

Hope everyone is having a good evening!

LoveaDAISYcal · 20/02/2009 20:24

I'll let your stork unmask themselves vbab. If they don't get back to me.

Happy birthday for the other day, and to Rosa as well

lots of fellow Aquarians here I see

bumble is down in his cot already tonight.....he was awake as well and has settled himself...good boy

LoveaDAISYcal · 20/02/2009 20:25

thanks phee and others mentioning the quorn, but I'm pretty sure I can't have it as it has barley malt in it so isn't safe for a gluten free diet

I'll be living on plain boiled rice and chicken at this rate

vbab78 · 20/02/2009 20:35

phee - Sorry to hear about A. Poor love. Dont feel bad about giving up bf it wouldnt have stopped her getting poorly. Dont rush into anything. Just seen your profile and you are in wombwell and before Rotherham. I live Bramley in Rotherham. KNOW IT? If you fancied it you could join the get together with ceebee?
Forgot to say earlier that A's chewing has changed . She still chomps her fists and I can hear her sucking on her gloves (due to eczema) but now it is like a pout chew . Sorry cant explain it well. I have thought maybe she has been teething for ages but wondering if she REALLY is now due to the change in chewing? DISCUSS .

vbab78 · 20/02/2009 20:39

FORGOT AGAIN ... A turned herself from her front to back today (not sure if meant to though) . She was moving her legs in a crawly type motion yesterday and is always keeping her head up. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but just so proud and also shocked as she seems to be growing up so quick. [cant decide if I want more kids or not emotion and seeing "supposed" last child growing so quick, proud but SAD]

LoveaDAISYcal · 20/02/2009 20:43

oh phee sorry I missed the imprtant bit of your post

sorry your DD is poorly and I hope she is better soon. try not to feel guilty about giving up BFing, and it certainly isn't why she got ill. If you still have some milk and she remebers how to latch, then feeding her will help to keep her hydrated.

How long ago did you stop? relactation is very time and energy consuming, but there is lots of advice and experience on here and also on my favourite website (kellymom incase you didn't know )

re the chewing; I think around this age they start to get a bit more coordinated about things like chewing (bumble can take his dummy out now) and also the teeth are starting to move up in their gums. So, although they are not actively teething, there is something going on in there. They also use their mouths to explore things so them chewing something is them finding out about the world.

LoveaDAISYcal · 20/02/2009 20:44

oh, and even if she struggles to latch, expressing and feeding her with a bottle will still bo good for her

Ceebee74 · 20/02/2009 21:12

Evening all - this is the first chance I have had to get on today - and I have had half a bottle of wine so it may not make sense

Vbab glad you want to meet up - nothing is confirmed yet as it will probably depend on where DH is working that week - but will let you know. We can decide where to go nearer the time...and anyone else who wants to is more than welcome to join us (Rutho, Daisy, Juanitad, Phee....)

Sam is drooling constantly and often chews his fist...not sure if it is teething but the shoulders of my tops don't half get a soaking

As for moving into their own room, we moved DS1 the night he turned 6 months - but I am a bit of a stickler for 'rules' Like Juanitad Sam is sleeping in a crib in our room at the mo and is ok (just) for length, he always sleeps with his hands through the bars and I think he would be so much comfier in a proper cot. However, we need to decorate/furnish the spare room for DS1 so he can move out of the nursery and DH thinks that will be Easter before he has the time to do it!! Plus we want a gap between DS1 moving out of the nursery and Sam moving in so DS1 doesn't think he has been ousted or whatever....I honestly can't see Sam lasting that long in the crib so I have no idea what to do!!

Right better go - my wine-addled brain is making typing rather hard

LoveaDAISYcal · 20/02/2009 21:20

count me in for meeting up ceebee. I meant to say that before

enjoy the rest of your wine!

chocolategal · 20/02/2009 21:31

evening all
phee i hope A is back to normal very soon, it is such a worry when they are not 100%

well my little man is in his own cot
He has been sleeping soundly since 7pm, i dont think i will get a minute sleep tonight tho so i think i will lift him when i go to bed and put him in his basket next to me.

ceebee i have another drooler! enjoy your wine, i am having a glass of baileys

I was reading back over our very 1st thread today, we were a right bunch of worriers werent we!?
Makes me miss being pregnant almost though!
oh god im going to be the first to be pregnant again aren't i!?

MonkeyMargot · 20/02/2009 21:31

Phee poor little mite. You really shouldn't be blaming yourself though re.moving to FF. I think we are genetically programmed to literally feel our LO's pain...

Re. baby moving to own room, I was led to believe that SIDS peaked between 2-4 months, dropping off after that point. The Giant Plum is almost 16lbs at 13 weeks, and only has a couple of inches leeway in her moses. I am trying to keep her in it until after 4 months, then move her to the cotbed in nursery. She has been having day-time naps in cotbed and loves the extra space - but like everyone else can't fit it into our bedroom! I will miss her little snorts and grunts though.

gatsby I was surprised it is hailed as such a classic. I found it difficult to empathise with any of the main characters TBH - I guess this was a deliberate literary ploy to reflect the vacuousness of post-war America in the midst of prohibition etc.

Any road up, it was good to read a proper book! And book club itself is fun, as Plum is the youngest, soI get to glean lots of useful snippets from the mums of the other babies.

Lacks - weight-watchers recipes are always good for low-fat if you've ever followed it.
Or, if you buy a low-fat cooking spray, you can follow virtually any recipe, and keep it low-fat.
E.g. lemon chicken risotto.
Poach chicken breast in pan of chicken stock for 8 minutes.
Meanwhile, fry onion and garlic in cooking spray. Add risotto rice and splash of white wine and grated lemon zest. Stir.

Remove chicken breast, and add chicken stock to risotto pan.

After 10 minutes, add diced chicken breast to rice, and cook for further 15 mins.

Season to taste, add shredded rocket leaves and serve!

PinkyMinxy · 20/02/2009 22:10

Hello all. Feeling pretty rubbish today, my head is in bits, TBH.

On the up-side, the dcs have really enjoyed their week together.

phee sorry to hear your little one is poorly. Don't blame yourself, it's nobosy's fault.x

vbab happy birthday. ANd how lovely that DS is bonding with his sister!

Rosa happy birthday, too.

merry don't be a stranger- will miss you!

I wondered about the Quorn, Daisy. I'm guessing that most of the meat substitutes will have something like that in them. I wonder of there's anything in the sainsbury's free from range.
Monkey your risotto sounds yum. I do similar except cook the chicken breast in the oven on a rack with grated lemon on it- gives it a lovely zingy flavour.

If you go to the play place near meadowhall, can I meet with you guys? Don't worry if not.

CHOC hope the night in cot goes well.
