Turniphead1 · 05/03/2009 10:33

meant to say "most of US" in first sentence

kmp1 · 05/03/2009 11:35

right, thanks turnip got it now! I find that sometimes I express and get hardly anything unless i alter the position of the pump a few times - but sometimes only get 2oz and other times like this morning I got a bit over 6oz which is massive!! I find it really difficult to get him positioned properley to express and feed at the same time - what's the easiest technique?

SybilFaulty · 05/03/2009 11:57

Girls, I have had a text from Verso this am to say that the HV is coming this afternoon. Her DH did the 10pm feed last night and she got 4 hours' sleep and so is feeling a bit better. I have sent her our love and said we are thinking of her.

Haven't read the thread so hope all are well. Back later.

Verso · 05/03/2009 12:02

Hello

Just a quick one from me. My mumsnet time is being stolen by work at the moment - I have to do appraisals for my team that I didn't get round too when PG because I was off sick. I know it's really important so am trying to do properly but it takes so long...would much rather be chatting with you. verso good to hear from you. and cat. I wish there was something more we could do to help. really hope things get better for you. Even at best of times the amount of sleep deprivation you're coping with would probably count as torture.

Loved the wallpaper and paints chat...I could have bought shares in farrow and ball when we did our house. Also turnip I really love timerous beasties - am getting a blind done in some of their fabric. I also spent hours trying to persuade DH to have http://www.cole-and-son.com/collection_detail.asp?collectionid=104 this wallpaper. chaises rock we have 2 old habitat ones (because we kept fighting over who got to lie on it) but i aspire to something more glam...(oh and a bigger house to put them in, of course)

kmp am sorry you're feeling homesick. must be so hard to be so far away. at least weather will improve - i always think it's easier to get into gear and get out once the light is better.

wg that's terrible about your hotmail. horrifying how easy it is for someone to break in. my passwords are all pathetic. I hope you get your FB back soon. Is it worth letting your bank know this is going on just in case they manage to get your details from somewhere?

daisy hope your LO is ok.

might be able to get to cinema next week...and definitely to south london meet up - think we've just said 18th and lunch time. argh crying baby and knock at door...

kmp1 · 05/03/2009 15:37

Just wondering if anyone uses a baby carrier when you go out, what do you do with your LO when you are stopping for lunch / coffee or something? I use mine a lot more than the buggy, but I'm not sure what I would do if I was doing something other than errands?

verso Glad you finally got a bit of sleep albeit a small amount - hopefully you are turning a corner.

LadyThompson · 05/03/2009 15:46

Just a quickie as I wait to have my hair cut...I am usually a Vidal Sassoon girl but DP is having is hair cut by a man who comes to the house, which I have always mocked him for, but I do fancy a quick trim and this guy is Tony & Guy trained so I am hoping it will be ok...I am so busy, it's just too tempting not to have it tidied a bit...

Verso, thinking of you.

KMP - I usually just keep her on my lap and undo the clips, and try not to spill any on her head Seriously.

More later...

kmp1 · 05/03/2009 15:58

oh thanks ladyt thats what i thought i would do too (well hopefully not too much falling on his head!) does she still face you or does she look outwards now?
i feel like a total cow today - expressing for the second time and there seems to be a good flow! Perhaps I have upped production! Hope your haircut goes well. I have my friend do my cut / colour who is also ex Toni & Guy. I work with her but she also has a young baby so she does it in between feeding both of them etc, so it takes a while but she's really good.
I think B's problem and latest screaming matches / ear pulling are due to over tiredness.... i'm going to try putting him down earlier. if anyone has an 11-12 weeker, who does sleep through, what are the times?

artichokes · 05/03/2009 16:20

Kmp - dd is 11 weeks and although she does not sleep through we are down to one wake between 6.30 & 6.30 (touch wood, I don't want to jinx it!). Her one night wake tends to be at 2am and is v quick. If it helps you her timetable seems to roughly go:
6.30am - wake
8.30am-9.15am - sleep
10.15am-11am - sleep
12 - 2.30pm - sleep
4pm - 4.45pm - sleep
6.30pm-sleep

zoejeanne · 05/03/2009 16:42

Verso I?m so sorry to hear how bad Tuesday night was for you. How?s it gone with the HV? I hope so much that last night was better for you and that your DH starts to understand and support you. I wish I could do more than say I?m thinking of you and hoping for the very best for you, that seems so inadequate when you need action and not words to get you through this. Hurrah for the 4 hours sleep last night ? I hope you get 4 hours and 5 minutes tonight and it just keeps on picking up.

KMP I?m pleased to read that you?ve picked up a bit, it must be extremely hard when those close to you are so far away and in a different time zone so you can?t just pick up the phone without planning when to do so. What a crazy morning you had yesterday I hope the proper coffee and cheerfulness helped you over the shock

Cat well done for seeing your GP. I hope they gave some positive advice for you and those tablets kick in soon and don?t cause too many sleep problems

LadyT our house was a big project, we had a barn with 4 walls and a falling in roof and nothing else! We lived in a caravan for 11 months whilst it got done, seriously back to basics but so exciting to step out of the van everyday and see progress on the house (I had to keep reminding myself of the benefits of living on site to stop myself thinking about how cold that caravan was, brrr). It is hassle and hard work, but you have to make yourself think of the end result and enjoy as much as you can. You sound like you already have a clear picture of what you want your house to be like, which is essential ? our visitors were divided into those with ?vision? who?s reaction was ?this is going to be so great? and those without the vision who couldn?t see beyond the caravan and the pile of bricks and said ?you?re mad?. Writing this is giving me itchy feet to do something big again, even though this one isn?t finished yet ? get a grip zoe, get a grip ? (oh, and I?m frightened of wallpaper too ? have 2 rolls in our bedroom that have been waiting to be used for 6 months now ) Kayz if you win euromillions this week you could build your own house AND buy a lovely old one Turnip that sofa cover company looks fab, sofas are next on our list to sort out, if only DD would stop sucking the bank account dry

Ros what a sweetie your DS1 is, I hope DS2 loves the book from his big brother

Turnip just before I read your post I thought to myself that nanny Anne is the guardian angel of this thread with her wise words, and there you go and say almost the same thing.

WG what a massive pain about all your online accounts and especially the latest problem with facebook. Makes me think I really should be more creative with my passwords

Daisy your poor DS, I hope he gets better very quickly. Add me to the list of those leaving DD outside to sleep ? she?s out there now and dead to the world (allowing me too much time to keep on writing this novel post)

LadyT how was the haircut? I had a much needed trim and root sort out yesterday and was just relaxing with a trashy magazine when I got a text from mum (who had DD) saying ?peed on socks, pooed on vest, only one nappy left? (a worry, considering she worked as a nanny for years and I?d taken 4 nappies with DD!) There wasn?t much I could do, unless I dashed back with a head full of foils though. And this morning I had another poo incident ? DD and I went swimming and on the way she did a huge poo that got her trousers and vest. I didn?t take a change of clothes with me, so after the swim I had to bring her home wearing only a nappy and her snowsuit ? reminds me of forgetting to take underwear to the swimming baths and having to travel home commando poor DD.

Must go and stop writing this essay hang the washing on the rack now and a million other jobs, before DD wakes up.

Oh, just noticed we've passed the 900 posts mark - any ideas for a new title?

Turniphead1 · 05/03/2009 18:20

quickie - as am trying to pack for Dublin.

Verso and Cat so glad you are getting some help. Fingers and all crossed that all gets much better soon!

ZJ THANK YOU so much for saying that about Nanny Anne. I know she would love to be the guardian angel of this thread along with the other grannies who aren't around to enjoy their fab grandchildren! Tim beasties blind - fab!!

Arti our day is very sim to yours. We do a feed at 10.30 tho and DD normally goes through til 5.30/6am (sorry, know we are v lucky).

Kayz mmmm - that teal and cookie dough is gorgeous. I don't have time at mo. to look at Dulux colours and only know Farrow and Ball colours off the top of the head (Old White is one that springs to mind for your hall - or Clunch) or you could get something similar in Dulux.

In North London there is a shop on Holloway Rd (called CHris Stevens) where you can go in and say "Farrow and Bally copy" give them the colour name and they mix it in Crown or Leyland halfing the price. Very naughty but I do it all the time for clients. You can get real F&B at Homebase though to have a look at colour charts.

Kayz - just thinking - Natural Hessian by Dulux might be nice. You want something along those pale coffee tones to fit in with cookie dough.

Must run.

EffiePerine · 05/03/2009 19:44

You would despair of us Turnip, white walls and black-framed prints with an occasional spot of dark blue to liven things up . I am suspicious of colour after my parents lovingly redecorated their front room swamp green with a yellow ceiling - and don't get me started on the time Mum painted the (tiny) kitchen fuschia with scarlet paintwork...

Another viewing today and there's been a bit more interest in the flat acc to the estate agent, hopefully some of Arti's good luck will rub off . Not aspiring to chaise longues, but would love a comfy rocking chair for cuddling babies on

DH out at loony fascists local conservatives meeting, planning on a curry later when he gets back. DS2 had a funny turn after his jabs but has recovered, tho I'm getting a bit worried about his skin which is sore despite aqueous cream - might have to take him back to the docs in case it's eczema (strong family history)

Verso: did the hv visit go OK?

Cat: hope the ADs settle down quickly and you don't get too many side-effects. You've inspired me to look out for a baby gym as DS2 loved Thomas' so much - he was also v taken with the mirror by the changing table (vain child).

SybilFaulty · 05/03/2009 19:54

Kayz, if it's pale coffee you want, how about Dimity as a F and B colour? We have that in the hall and it's lovely - quite plain but still interesting. My all time fave is James White, which we have in the dining room. Sort of grey/ green, looks good in light and dark, doesnt clash with other colours in pictures etc. But not a coffee colour.

Our colours are all Leyland rip offs - our local decorators has a computer which does the match pots and is apparently 95% accurate. F and B paints are very chalky and so the rip offs are slightly more hard wearing. We had the "modern emulsion" in the dining room as I was worried about the dirty paw prints of assorted kids on it and it iw wipeable without having any real sheen to it. I wish I'd gone for that rather than the matt finish on the stairs etc. Wotth a thought if you have little fingers gripping walls etc.

Turnip, I think that NA's new role is entirely fitting and very lovely.

Verso and Supercat, how have your days been? Am thinking of you.

THe cavalry has arrived. I am off out (twice in one week - good lord) and so Sasha the babysitter has finished bath, teeth and is now doing story. She is certainly doing Angelina Ballerina better than me - once more, with feeling . Had another Cava soaked playdate but limited myself to a glass as am on the tiles tonight.

Sorry not to have read more that the last 2 posts. Will catch up propserly when I come in [hic].

daisydora · 05/03/2009 20:05

verso so pleased you managed to get bit of sleep, hope the HV visit went well for you too.

cat hope you start to feel better soon, and that the ad's don't cause you too many problems.

sybil am at your night out. I'm suppossed to be out tomorrow but with DS being poorly and refusing the bottle I suspect I'll be staying in.

waitinggirl · 05/03/2009 20:32

hurrah, am now back on hotmail and facebook!!! all i can say is pls pls pls change all your passwords so that you have a separate password for your email account to anything else and also put some capitals and symbols"£)%! in there. i didn't and suffered the consequences. a few people were asked to send me money in nigeria (somehow i had managed a trip to nigeria with a 10 week old baby, but still needed the odd £300). as dh said, if they have the nouse to hack into your account, why don't they have the nouse to a)spell properly, b)use grammar properly and c) come up with a better story.

i'll get back to baby stuff soon.

Veggiemummy · 05/03/2009 20:49

just slipping in DH is in the bar with his workmate had a great time at the best Zoo i have ever been too.

V jealous of hairdressers who come to homes.

About parents decorating ideas, when it came to walls my parents would only do white walls but were mental about bizarre floor colours, blue, green & even yellow carpets. Had them done in the early 70's and nevers felt the need to update!!!

Effie get your GP to prescibe something else, they love aqueous cream because it is very cheap but it was made as a soap alternative, it is basically pure Sodium Laureal(sp) Sulphate (the abrasive stuff in soaps that cleans you) and has been associated with causing horrific epidermitis and worsening already bad skin conditions like eczema. Ask for a emulsion type topical application like 50/50 (thats my fav) or epiderm (good but expensive so may not want to give it to you but is good as you can put it in the bath) or diprobase cream. Also you can get a good bath oil called Aveena it is a new one that nurses are using in the bath for children with dry skin and eczema, you can buy it over the counter in chemists or possibly get it on prescription. Basically you want to keep the skin protected and 'wet' so applying the emulsion creams often is good you cant really over do it. Steer very clear of anything with perfumes etc.

oh dear DHs 3G thingy stick has lost connection and i have just written that big post will hang on and send it later so wont get to see other posts tonight, but hello to all and sending a big hearty energy Wursts to Cat & Verso. oh i think connection is back.

Hello guys and good evening to you all.
verso i don't have anything to add, but am thinking of you and I really hope things get better soon. Energy wursts sound a bit rude though veggie! veggie complicated model railways are just up DH's street, i shall not tell him about the one in Munich as it would bore me senseless
WG bummer about your e-mail account. That happened to a friend of mine and they also got in his ebay account as well and tried to sell stuff. I think he got his facebook hacked on a seperate occasion too! I am glad they were unimaginative and used the old Nigerian trick though so no-one got ripped off.
cat I hope you get some sleep soon, you are going through hard times, and I hope it gets better sooner rather than later.
Enjoying the interior decorating chat!! I have crap taste and am crap at DIY though so I will not join in! I always have ideas for my house and they never turn out as well as I want them to. But i love my house, so it doesn't matter (apart from the rats of course )
zj on the swimming poo incident, a friend of mine was telling me last night that his DD got the local pool closed when she slipped over in her poo filled swimming nappy onto her arse, and ...well you can guess the rest , apparently it was a health hazard.
Re the sleeping, I wouldn't say DS sleeps through as such, but he is 10 weeks today and I have given up on the dream feed, he goes to sleep between 8 and 9 usually and can sleep up to 8 or 9 hrs. Sorry I know this is jammy. Last night he fed last at 9:30 as I had taken him to the pub and disturbed his normal sleeping and he slept until 6:30! My boobs were nearly exploding by then. But he is not normally so good and i have probably jinxed it now.

EffiePerine · 05/03/2009 21:40

Veggie, that is really helpful, I had wondered if the cream was making things worse. Do you know if you can get any of those creams over the counter? Such a pain trying to get a GP appointment (and then lugging DS1 along as well). DH suggested trying E45, not sure if that would be any better.

Veggiemummy · 05/03/2009 21:52

E45 would do if it is not too bad just keep applying also try the Aveena range. its really just a matter of keeping it protected and hydrated. i'm not sure how much things like 50/50 are i'm sure epiderm is a bit pricey but really for now just try the e45 see how it goes. Basically the emulsions are just easy to apply vasoline you can even use nipple creams if you need a little more protection than the E45. I once used Kalasan(sp) for DS1, its the nappy cream with camomile but it was good for his eczema. I was quite lucky when i was working as i could nick all the free sample stuff. Oh almost forgot there is also the oilatum range. where is the dryness. a good bath oil can do wonders, like oilatum or Aveena, just watch out as it makes em slippery.

EffiePerine · 05/03/2009 22:08

ah, I have some of that baby bottom balm from Waitrose that is just olive oil and camomile - may try it to see if it helps

poor DS2, being experimented on!
