I'm here

I've been at a Parish Council meeting tonight, went out at 7.30pm and all was well. Came home at 10.15pm and my lane is virtually cut off by floods
I didn't notice it until I was in it (doh!) as it covers the road completely, so I got through, but then I took Skott's gf home and the road between me and dad (about 1.5 miles) is under water in several places, just about passable if you choose the right angles and paths! On my way back however, my lane has flooded even more and my car really didn't like it. Looks like we're stuck at home again tomorrow as it's still raining so it won't be getting any better.
M will go to school as we can wade through the floods to get to his bus stop . If I'm feeling brave I can cycle through to get J to Childminder (about 3ish miles by road although annoyingly half that over fields but no public right of way!).
We are very lucky because there is no chance of the house flooding (thank f@@k), and I've never seen it cut off at the end of the lane so it must be bad

elmajo · 09/02/2009 23:16

Oh, and Skott received a valuable lesson in why you should listen to your big sister and not just nod and say yes -
I warned him it was flooded across the road pretty much all the way from me to dad. I warned him that to get through you had to choose your path wisely.
Did he listen? Yeah Right!
Rang to tell me he was home and complain that I hadn't warned him of the floods so he drove into it at 20mph on his motorbike (and that was speed after he braked!) and got a face full of water

CaptainDippy · 10/02/2009 09:36

to flooding EJ; but to silly little bros!!

Right, off to meet friends in town for a wee treat for a change

Who was fourlittlefeet, or shouldn't I ask?

MJreturns · 10/02/2009 12:06

SPB, I don't know either!

Elmajo, hope things are a bit better now. I drove through a very deep puddle once, car almost cut out at one point and it was scary!!

Not much to say here, just back from tumble tots and that's it really!

Bramshott · 10/02/2009 12:42

Dippy - I'm in Tunbridge Wells all day tomorrow so I will text you. I won't be working the whole time, but I'll be stuck more or less on site . . .

Weather was horrid last night - I drove back from Tunbridge Wells to home between 11.00 and 1.00 and at one point the M25 was closed because of an accident on the other side, and then nearer home there was loads of flood water and emergency vehicles about. I was glad to get home I can tell you (although less glad to be woken by N at 6.10 because she "wanted a cuddle")!

CaptainDippy · 10/02/2009 14:28

Bramshott - can't do tomorrow. Is that your last day in TW??

OP posts:
Bramshott · 10/02/2009 14:44

I'm there Thursday too, but later on - probably not till 6.00 (so I'll be there from 5 or 6 till 11 - yawn!)

Northernlurker · 10/02/2009 16:21

fourlittlefeet is from the Jan 09 thread. Which reminds - me if anybody hasn't seen and posted on Elkie's support thread it's over in breastfeeding - go look and post please!

Too tired to post much today. We're all fine and the man came about the boiler ysterday. We need a new valve and he's coming back on Friday. The boiler itself is working so we have usual hot water and a little bit of heat so not too bad really.

StealthPolarBear · 10/02/2009 19:53

ah Wasn't starting a witchhunt, just thought she was a namechanger!
Will go and post now. Glad you have heat and water.

Sexonlegs · 11/02/2009 07:49

Morning all

Last day in school today for ds. In their wisdom the school is having two training days on Thurs and Fri prior to the half term break. It's going to be a long week!!

SOL, hope K is brighter soon. Nurofen and calpol are wonderful things!!

I am at home today waiting for the electricity man to call. I had my electricity statement a couple of weeks ago and was a bit surprised to find I was in credit by over £300 (I pay by direct debit). Turns out my meter has stopped and so, according to my bill, I have used no units at all in the last six months!

runnyhabbit · 11/02/2009 16:51

Just quickly before it's feeding time at the zoo teatime

Text Elkie last night asking how they were, and letting her know we're all thinking of her. Had a reply this morning, that she had managed to feed 3 times during the night laying down.

MN vibes are obv working

StealthPolarBear · 11/02/2009 16:52

N1, was just wondering how she was

runnyhabbit · 11/02/2009 18:24

message from elkie

"Getting better all the time but still tough challenge - todays he's just on my milk - no SMA - great but scary"

StealthPolarBear · 11/02/2009 18:27

Yay well done elkie! You can definitely do it!

Northernlurker · 11/02/2009 18:31

Great news - Go Elkie!!!

I'll cut and paste that news across to the thread in breastfeeding if that's ok Runny?

runnyhabbit · 11/02/2009 18:43

already done it NL

StealthPolarBear · 11/02/2009 18:48

runny, when did you get an extra 'b'?

Northernlurker · 11/02/2009 18:55

Oooh yes so you have - thanks for that

Glad you had a good time in York - the city looks great in clear, cold weather doesn't it? Can I be nosy and ask where you stayed/ate/went - am just curious so please tell me to get lost if you wish

Got to go now though - driving lesson beckons. Dh is away till Friday and I'm tired and have a headache Onwards and upwards and all that!

runnyhabbit · 11/02/2009 19:22

I am more than happy to talk about York

We stayed in the Holme Lea Manor here
Beautiful old building, spotlessly clean, great location - 15mins walk inot York. Staff lovely, and quite reasonably priced (£90 per night, b&b)

Had an afternoon snack/tea in Bettys tearoom (the main in the centre) Also dined in Churchills hotel Saturday evening - very nice

Visited York Minster - went right to the very top off the tower (must've been mad) and into the crypt. The Minster is absolutely stunning.

Dh bought me a lovely watch from Bradleys (very nearly bought a bag from Mulberry, but couldn't justify the price
Ooo'd and aaa'd my way round Cath Kidston, Ghost, Whistles, Hobbs etc. Didn't actually buy anything in these shops - was just lovely going into grown shows, lol

Doobydoo · 11/02/2009 19:28

SOL..Really hope K better soon!
Well done Elkie.xx
