oooggs · 25/01/2009 19:36

what would that look like?

Northernlurker · 25/01/2009 19:41

sort of white furry bloom on his tongue. It's supposed to affect their feeding but dd1 and dd2 had it and fed on quite happily - mil (health visitor) spotted it with dd1 before it got very bad though and then with dd2 I knew what to look for. It never bothered me - and they got treated for it asap but I understand that it can be very painful - which is why i mentioned it.

oooggs · 25/01/2009 19:44

I will check before next feed - which will be whenever master Luke decides!!

you do just feed on demand when breast feeding don't you?

Northernlurker · 25/01/2009 19:47

Yes - I love that phrase 'feeding on demand' - makes me think of little tiny babies looking up at you and saying 'now really Mother - I must insist!' Just been googling baby thrush and it's definately white spots or plaques you would be looking for.

Northernlurker · 25/01/2009 19:49

this might be useful

AngeG · 25/01/2009 20:49

Hello oooggs - Thanks for the photo DS1 looks like such a proud big brother! As NL says yes it will pass. I was just talking to a friend the other night about Izzy and I playing 'chase the nipple'! Her rooting around to latch on and me pulling away because I knew it was going to hurt Feeding on demand is great for the first little while, I tried whenever she squeaked!

Luce - Good to 'see' you. Sorry that you're missing your scottish friends. Hope you settle more soon.

Forgotten everything else as usual!

Sexonlegs · 25/01/2009 21:12

Ouch to sore boobs Oooggs - hope things settle down soon.

Luce, really hope you feel more settled soon xx

Elmajo, hope J is feeling better soon.

Hi Ange

All ok here. We were up in Richmond for the weekend as a friend was having a house-warming party. It was great fun, but exhausting. The girls were great, and considering the level of noise, slept really well. Went to the Natural History Museum today which was good fun, but really busy and such a nghtmare with the buggy.

Anyway, hope everyone has had a great weekend. xx

Northernlurker · 25/01/2009 21:20

SOL - I was about to be furious (and offended) that you'd come up to Richmond without saying anything and thus missed the chance to meet up with B and I......then I realised you meant your Richmond not mine

At least - I hope that's what you meant???

Sexonlegs · 25/01/2009 21:24

NL, I did think when I typed Richmond, that perhaps I should be more specific! It was the Richmond darn sarf!

Northernlurker · 25/01/2009 21:27

Oh yes the 'other' Richmond as we like to think of it.....ours was here first you know.

geordieminx · 26/01/2009 08:12

And ours in much nicer innit NL?

MJreturns · 26/01/2009 11:56

Morning ladies

Oooggs, sorry to hear you have pain, I remember it well and it did pass for me within a few days. Hope it eases for you really soon xxx

Luce, lovely to hear from you. Glad the children are all settling well. I know what you mean about missing your female friends. I am sure you will make friends soon though, it's amazing how you meet people just because you have children the same age as theirs. It amazes me how many more friends I have now I have children!

SOL, how is your mum doing? Hope she is ok xxx

Cd, I have been nosing at your FB photos and they did make me smile! Dd1 looks gorgeous with her new "do", it really suits her.

Hope eveyone else is ok, back later hopefully xx

StealthPo09IsHere · 26/01/2009 19:01

Hi everyone

CaptainDippy · 26/01/2009 20:23

Thank MJ - I am really getting used to it and it certinly has it's "up" sides .... no brishing or effort in the morning in the mad rush before school, not that likely to catch nits & looks tres chic

Maybe having a boy ain't all that bad after all [girn]

CaptainDippy · 26/01/2009 20:24

brushing, even

leakyR · 26/01/2009 21:54

Hi guys

Bit emotional tonight. Saw midwife today and she told me that it is not as likely that I'll get the hospital waterbirth that I want (and had with ds1) here in Bury.
The mat unit is v small, only 5 delivery rooms, 1 with a pool. The pool is not used very frequently for births - only labour and she said she wasn't sure how many of the midwives would be "comfortable" with waterbirth. she did not know stats or anything for the hsopital, but said my best chance for a waterbirth is at home.

When I first found out about my pregnancy I brought this up with dh. I love the idea of a home waterbirth. He has a serious medical phobia and following his sister's traumatic (hospital) birth which resulted in our niece having cerebral palsy is very nervous about things going wrong at home.

My first birth was fantastic and I would love the opportunity to deliver in water again, but am struggling to get him to look at hb as a serious option.

Have just realised I should start a thread on this.
{Leaky wanders off to pregancy/childbirth threads]

Northernlurker · 26/01/2009 21:55

Leaky - are there any other units nearby with pools?

leakyR · 26/01/2009 22:00

All other local hospitals similar size all with one birth pool Have a feeling the situation would be similar there too.

By "local" I mean hospiatls in neighbouring towns.

Northernlurker · 26/01/2009 22:06

Well that's pretty rubbish then!

Are you in touch with the local NCT? I would call them and see if they have any 'secret' tips - 18 miles away from us is a midwife led unit with loads of pools - thats where the NCT mums go

I would talk to dh again about homebirth - but with his phobia and what happened to Eva I think it may be a step too far so perhaps you need to think about how you could birth without water if you have to. I know thats hard to face

leakyR · 26/01/2009 22:13

I am in touch with the NCT in Bury and will be at playgroup with some of them on Wednesday. I seem to recall seeing a "homebirth adviser" for our area mentioned somewhere. will enquire further.

Northernlurker · 26/01/2009 22:14

Good Luck

leakyR · 26/01/2009 22:16

Off to bed now - work tomorrow and I look and feel like an extra from "Thriller". Tries to recall any pg zombies

liath · 27/01/2009 07:57

Morning all.

Leaky, FWIW my DH was dead against HB too, I think being a doctor made it harder for him as he kept thinking of various things that could go wrong (and it didn't seem to reassure him when I cheerfully said that I was relying on him to resuscitate me or the baby if anything did go tits up). What did help him was talking to the midwives and also I promised him that if there was the merest hint of things not going to plan that I would transfer to hospital pronto.

He now thinks homebirths are fantastic & is really pleased we went ahead with it.

Not much going on here, just an ongoing war on nits. I applied for a new job the other week and there were seventy applicants . Needless to say I'll be staying where I am for now - didn't even get shortlisted.

cazboldy · 27/01/2009 08:13

sorry about the job liath....

Oooggs hope things are starting to get easier or you xxx

Was Ava born in hosp though?

I had 4 hb, and can' reccommend hem highly enough I tend to think that if something bad is going to happen then it will happen wherever you are..... and you had a good birth with G, so would be unlikely to have any problems. Was it something specific he is worried about (like baby not breathing, or cord around the neck) or just in general?

Harry is off, on antib's for a tooth abcess, and I think James has conjuncivitis, so another rip o he doctors......

cazboldy · 27/01/2009 08:14

sorry you put that she was born in hosp....
