Aw, that's sad... Maybe advertise it on those for sale boards in the supermarket or in a free paper like the yeller? I think it's called that anyway!

LisaLessLumpy · 08/03/2009 08:07

Stefka - I wouldn't worry, I caught Ben the other day dipping the night light in the toilet and then putting it in his mouth

alicet - Hope you get the house sorted soon.

Ben slept till 8am today pity I was up at 6.30

FloriaTosca · 08/03/2009 08:44

Good Morning Ladies

Alex has been a good boy and given me one of his best nights ever...perfectly timed as I have the Verdi concert today and desperately needed a decent sleep.
He fell asleep at MILs at 8pm (having demanded a "baff" all the way through dinner...what is so wonderful about her bathroom I really dont know... we gave in when he started signing "please" after each demand [cutie-pie emoticon])anyway, he slept all the way home, woke for a 5 min bf as I put him to bed and once more at 2ish and then slept solidly until 6.55!!!!
What is even more wonderful is that his nappy was completely dry!!!! That is a first for overnight(11 hours)...I don't expect it to be a regular occurrance for a long while but it is a good sign.
Oh, and while I'm on my favourite subject, he made me laugh my socks off yesterday afternoon...he knows the sign for "smelly" which is wafting your hand under your wrinkled nose but when we had to go into the bathroom shortly after it had been used Alex gave me a look of disgust, said "daddy!" and grabbed his nose between thumb and forefinger...a much more universal sign for "stinks!"

Well I had better go and get things together for this afternoons rehearsal...(slightly dreading leaving Alex alone with his Dad so long...I came back from Friday nights rehearsal to find Alex with a badly scraped chin and a bust lip...daddy had let him bounce on the bed and surprise, surprise he fell off!...only consolation was Dh was even more upset than Alex)....WWAJC, I hope you make it tonight and that we don't dissapoint, I'll buy you a beverage in the bar if you are still around afterwards.

FloriaTosca · 08/03/2009 08:49

LLLAt Ben sucking toilet water And glad that he is sleeping better again....shame you have been trained into early wake ups, I'm sure you will readapt soon.

Muppet; Thinking of you and Dex ... I hope the vet manages to help him pull through and he is home with you again soon.

Dalrymps · 08/03/2009 09:03

LLL - Thats great Ben slept later today, now we just need to train you , maybe you should eat wheatabix before bed

Floria - Thats great Alex gave you a good night! The 'Baff' please is very cute . Lol at him hold his nose at your dh's smell . we've taught Dylan to waft his hand and wrinkle his nose and say pwaaar when something smells and surprisingly he now does it when either dh or he himself trumps , he also snoiffs his grandads slippers and does it he he

Well, Dylan got me up at 7.50am today, he usually wakes between 8.30 and 9 so I've got it wasy really. Have quite enjoyed being up a little earlier than normal, have left dh to have a sleep in as it was my turn yesterday.

Woooozle100 · 08/03/2009 10:01

yay - glad we're getting better sleep

muppet / dal - I have the phil and teds. Best of a not too brilliant bunch imo. Well there's a couple of quite similar ones -icandy etc - that I haven't tried cos they weren't out when I bought.

I'm quite happy with it. Problems are its cack to fold. Like, it does fold but its still so cumbersome it's barely worth the effort. We have a berlingo so we stick it in the back erect. You deffo need a big boot for it.

Its not fabulous now I'm pushing about 5 stone worth of children and chair Then again, don't know what would be. My dd has to go in the bottom cos she is the lightest. I don't have any storage in it now cos her legs are in the basket. Actually - storage generally on it is pants.

OK good points - it was fab in newborn mode - where the baby lies flat and the seat fits on top of it (ykwim - not literally squashing the baby) Size wise its brill and doesn't eliminate public transport. Its great to steer. Have tried various other doubles and found this quite an issue with many. Particularly the regular tandem ones.

Side by side ones (have one of these as well cos it folds better for when I'm using taxis cos dh has the car) are obv more bulky out and about. There can be probs with the kids mauling each other / pulling hair as well. Tho nicer when they are both older. I've just got a really cheapy narrow one. Paid 40 quid for it second hand with cosy toes.

Think thing with phil and teds that you need to bear in mind is that by the time it gets quite awkward to use - yr older child prob won't be needing to go in it very much. And yeah - you have a decent single buggy at same time (I never bother taking off the other seat tho - that's my shopping seat when dd is at school now )

Stefka · 08/03/2009 11:36

Thanks ladies - I felt really bad last night. LLL - that made me laugh - honestly what are they like!

Dalrymps · 08/03/2009 11:45

Pixiemason - Wow, you are the double buggy guru! Thanks for all the tips. I defo need lots of storage on a buggy so maybe the phil and teds is not for me. I honestly don't know which one i'm gonna go for?!

Stefka · 08/03/2009 12:10

Quick SIL story for you.

My mum was at their house and SIL was doing the usual hitting her DD on the back of the hand to dicipline her thing which I can't stand but anyway. Her DD hit another baby that was there which is hardly surprising considering. However in order to dicipline her for that guess what SIL did. Yep - hit her. My mum said she couldn't keep her mouth shut and asked her how she was supposed to learn that hitting is not ok by hitting her. SIL didn't say anything for a bit and then said she is too young to assosiate it.

alicet · 08/03/2009 13:52

Stefka glad you're feeling happier today! And pmsl at your sil not having an immediate answer!

Floria fab that you had a good night from Alex last night - long overdue isn't it? And hope the concert goes well tonight. Do you ever perform in newcastle anymore - I know you used to pre-Alex. I'd love to come and see you!

Lisa glad Ben slept better although a shame you couldn't - I always find this really frustrating!

About double buggies - I have the mountain buggy urban. it's absolutely fantastic and the only neg is that it is pretty big folded and heavy to lift into the boot but I can manage (and i'm a 5ft weekling!) to lift it into the boot of our zafira.

It is a side by side one but I wanted this so that they could play together and I always thought the other type are fine for the child at the front but shit for the one behind. And it's actually only slightly bigger than a standard single buggy and I can get it through every door i have tried as long as it's lined up straight. It has loads of storage space too and I can do a full supermarket shop and get everything in both underneath and hanging on the handle from hooks I put onto it and as long as I put the heavy stuff underneath it doesn't flip! Can carry the shopping basket on the handle too while shopping.

It's heavy but very very easy to manoevere even with one hand. Adn the newer versions which is like ours has an adjustable handle too so both dh at 6ft 4 and me at 5ft can push it easily! All in all I am delighted with it and not looking forward to going back to a single!

Oh and you can get a carrycot to face you when they are small too - we did this and it was lovely.

They are pretty pricey - about £550 new and another £150 for the carrycot but I got mine on ebay for £300 including this. Given that I will probably get not a lot less when I sell it again I think thats a pretty good buy for something we use everyday.

alicet · 08/03/2009 13:55

I should just say too that I think the tandem ones are pretty difficult to get up and down kerbs - I went to try one in Mothercare before we had Adam and even lifting the front end up without any children in it was pretty tricky. I have heard that they can be pretty hard to manouvere too but don't have any first hand experience or know anyone with one to ask.

We also looked at the Phil & teds precisely because they are so adaptable and thought we would be able to sell our single if we bought one. Sam cried when we put him in it though (and we tried several times on different days) and looked really uncomfortable and given that at the time we really wanted him to be able to sleep in it if necessary that was a deal breaker for us. Know lots of people who have them and their children are fine so don't think thats a reason not to buy but maybe worth trying first

muppetgirl · 08/03/2009 18:10

HI all

Dex's swelling has gone down as has his temperature which is fab. The vet thinks it is a rather nasty infection that spread so he's coming home tomorrow providing he's okay tonight. Lots of cuddles and doggy treats waiting for him x

Am looking at the prams mentioned and I love the Emmaljunga but the wheels are fixed which is a personal bugbear but I LOVE the seat as that's they type we have at the mo. They do a moveable wheel version but the toddler seat looks a bit precarious as they actually say on their own website not to let go of the handle while a child is sat in it. Henry is very heavy and could tip it easily!

Love the icandy, looks wierd but does carry 2 children in fully reclinable seats. You can have a carry cot and reclining seat so that's good. Did wonder how you'd get to the baby as the front seat covers the carrycot? Also how on earth would a rain cover cover them both? It does convert back to a single buggy so it would last longer as you would then just use it for your second.

The urban buggy looks fab but dh is worried about fighting especially with 2 boys! He like the one in front of the other pushchairs but good to hear lots of different points of views.

It's confusing to say the least!

Floria - Hope the concert is well attended x

Stefka - Your SIL makes me laugh!!!

Had to put Henry on the naughty step today as he's hitting children at nursery and once moved away going back and hitting them again. Because of his size they do get knocked over easily so it's something we need to crack down on. He threw trains at Ollie today so spent quite a bit of time on the naughty step. Do you think he's a bit young to understand? I'm not sure but know we have to start to do something before it gets out of hand. He's much more physical than Ollie ever was so not sure what to do. Anyone else got any strategies they use/know of to do deal with a dumper truck of a child pushing/hitting?

LisaLessLumpy · 08/03/2009 19:53

muppet - Ben has been spending a fair bit of time on the naughty spot too, for throwing food on the floor, throwing things at Sam and hitting Sam it doesn't phase him one bit, he sits there talking to himself and if he sees you looking just waves and smiles not sure what else to discipline him with, as you say he is a bit too young to understand anything else.

NeedCoffee · 08/03/2009 20:53

hi all
Muppet-not sure, Shannon keeps hitting people with toys really hard, finds it highly amusing, expecially when i tell her off an then goes ballistic when i take it off her, shouting 'mine, mine' so i need to know how to approach that too-I had to restrain her in her high chair earlier because she was kicking off because i wouldn't let her suck the end of my laptop lead
Great news about Dexter

re prams-has anyone got the link to that fab one from the other week? I can't remember what it was called, but it was really cool, FT found it somewhere cheaper...

had a very bad day with dd1 today, she had a late night at her arsehole tosspot pig of a Dad's on Friday and stayed her friends last night, and didn't get sent to bed till 11.45pm so has been a little shit horrible today, with her teenager Kevin attitude and answering back, so much that i threatened she'd go to her Dads, so she started screaming and wailing that i was getting rid of her, then had her dad on the phone saying what was i playing, upsetting her like that?? Blah Blah...Oh and he puts her to bed late because she wakes up at 5.30am if she goes any earlier than 10.00 which is a load of shit, he just wants her to sleep till dinner time, so he doesn't have to get up-sheesh, he only has her one night a week, and doesn't work, you'd think that he could get up earlish one morning and do something with her for the day that he does have her, like park, swimming, ice skating, anything-but no, he takers her to the shittiest pub in the town. Grrrrr, Wanker. At least my rage at dd1 has been transferred from her to him, and she has promised to try and behave better in future..

Am off to watch the rest of the film i was trying to watch last night, before i had to go to bed too tired.

alicet · 08/03/2009 22:19

Muppet just had a thought - saw a fab double that would prob be just what you are looking for - fully reclining front facing single with a seat like the Emmaljunga that goes on top of the seat so much better stability than the emmaljunga on the handlebars. Racking my brians to try and remember the make - I saw a guy with one in the park when I was pg with adam and went and asked him about it. It is a make from New Zealand but saw some on ebay - Aaaarrrgggghhhh it's going to really annoy me! I'll let you know if I can remember...

alicet · 08/03/2009 22:19

Oh and NC sorry you are having a shite time with dd1 - thinking of you xxx

Dalrymps · 08/03/2009 22:28

Alicet - Was it this company?

Dalrymps · 09/03/2009 07:51

Morning ladies, was woken by his lordship at 7am today. Still an acceptable time to get up but i'm getting a little worried, it seems to be getting earlier each day

I feel a little queasy this morning but it could just be hunger, i'm secretly praying that our ttc attempts have paid off. Will have to wait till the end of the week to find out.

Hope everyone is ok today and had a good sleep!
