What is it with these little piggie boys? Alex is climbing on/into everything too..or moving the furniture around...or banging things(I keep having to confiscate his wooden duck on a stick)...or dropping things in the bath (not had a chance to do it down the loo... yet)oh, and the bog brush thing, aaarrrghh!(I hate them at the best of times but he is fixated by them!).Dh left the loft ladder down at weekend, I turned my back for a second and the little beggar was half way up it! Living in a bungalow you wouldnt think we had need of stairgates...we have three!and a playpen he can get out of! Like Ben,I'm sure the only reason he hasn't climbed out of his cotbed is because he sleeps in a grobag!

Inzi.If you are getting frustrated with potty training it might be best to stop for a while...Alex has been held out since he was 3 weeks old and so sits happily on his potty or toilet seat but even he is reluctant when I am frustrated ... it is all about being consistant and positive (not easy when you are sure they understand but just won't comply). Alex usually "obliges" when he is put on the potty but has never told me when he needs to go (the reason I get frustrated)so if I don't keep an eye on the time accidents do happen. When you try again perhaps just aim to get Jane to sit on the potty, fully clothed for 10 seconds or so and gradually build up time before removing clothing and asking her for more.

J20 I understand your worry...no matter how much positive research is published for the MMR that niggling doubt is always in the back of your mind. Shannon is such an affectionate/demonstrative child I'm sure you have no real cause for concern. Sorry about the sleep situation though ...I'm the last person to give you advice on that!

TLes; I only live 40 mins from Liverpool however we are in Ayr this weekend visiting my old neighbours from Glasgow.

Monday afternoon at Crackpots (softplay/cafe/potterypainting ) with WWAJC and Anya was lovely...Anya and Alex walking down the room together side by side like Igglepiggle and Upsydaisy was soooo sweet! I'll have to have a word with him about how a girl likes to be treated though...kissing her then pulling her to the ground is not quite the same as sweeping her off her feet and I wont be trying to paint two pots whilst Alex runs round causing chaos again in a hurry!...shame there isnt one nearer...they do a Saturday morning Dads session with bacon butties and sky sports on TV! Dh would be much better off giving me my lay in doing that than stupifying in front of Sponge Bob!

WWAJC Glad the door was on ok when you got back{grin]

FloriaTosca · 25/02/2009 12:40

Good grief..I started that post this morning and you have written a whole page since!!!
LLL WOW at the video...I thank heavens I got Alex the cheapo ikea one (no step to use)Ben is so big!
NC It depends what you want from your stroller...I think the babydan is v light weight (if it is like the one one of the mumsround here has got) I thought the graco mosaic was a travel system (about £200 when we were looking 18 months ago)as for the toys'r us one..sorry I haven't a clue.
Sorry to all those with sick los...it really is the pits ...I hope they all get better quickly

WhiteWineAndJaffaCakes · 25/02/2009 19:48

Dal - hope Dylan's better soon.

NC - shame about the holiday, made more stressful by Shannon being unhappy. I think they're at an age where they understand a bit about how the world works but not enough to make sense of it iykwim. It must be frustrating for them that they can't control what goes on, hence Shannon's placing things in certain places? - Anya's a bit like that as well.

LLL - poor you with the 5am starts. Only another month until the clocks go forward though so that will get Ben to sleep until 6am although hopefully he will be ok before then. Oh my good grief at the video!

Not having so much of the climbing thing (Anya only having little legs ) but with you on opening everything. Today she opened the fridge, got out a yoghurt, then CLOSED the fridge door and took the yoghurt to dh for him to open it. (She is not usually so well behaved I hasten to add.)

Anya had her first walk outside today in the park now that she can walk in her new shoes. She looked a bit baffled at first but was soon off practically running down the path, stopping only to pick up a collection of very carefully chosen dead leaves. I thought she'd be put off by trampling over a huge worm but he seemed far more distressed by it than she did . Hope the weather stays nice now into spring - it's going to be a very easy way to entertain her.

alicet · 25/02/2009 22:52

Just a quickie from me again lovely ladies but I am thinking of you promise!

No news on the house - the buyer of ours has been away so hasn't seen the survey yet but assures us he will let the agents know on Friday if it was OK - keep all your fingers crossed!

Can only remember a few bits - seem a lot of your lo's are poorly so sending you all virtual hugs and get well vibes. no fun when they're ill...

adam is a climber too - he gets on the kitchen worktop in the blink of an eye from our sofa and up the stairs where he sits on the top step with a big grin on his face rocking! Sam was much more easy going and less bother all round!

Inzi about the potty training I would honestly leave it. She doesn't sound as though she is ready and all the reading i did before training Sam says that if you wait until they are ready it's really easy but if you try to push it too early it's not. Sam was about 2 and 7/8 months and at 3 he has some friends who are still in nappies so you've got a long way to go before its a problem. Nothing wrong with encouraging her interest in it - Sam used to sit on the potty often from just before he turned 2 and even occasionally 'produced' but I just encouraged it without pushing him before he was ready. Of course you should do what feels right for you but I'm with Floria that you getting to the point where you're stressing about it probably won't help. Good luck if you decide to keep trying though!

That's me off to bed - dh is in London and Adam is also an early waker (although we have been having some success with going in, giving him milk and putting him back to bed - this am I was in at 5.50 and 6.10 then he was quiet until 6.50. We don't get him up until 6.30 at the earliest and whereas to start with it was a battle it does (touch wood) seem to be sinking in although clearly now I've said that I've scuppered myself!

LisaLessLumpy · 26/02/2009 06:07

5 fecking 20 am this morning, I can't cope with these mornings, especially with him now being such a handful all day too, tried sitting with him in his room, he just kept standing up and starting to get frustrated, so took him in the spare room, hoping we could cuddle and go back to sleep, no he keeps struggling to get up, so here I am again on here at 6am trying to keep myself from screaming or throttling him.

He is also waking up pretty much on the dot of 12.20am each night too where it can take up to 30mins to settle him, and each morning he is waking within a few mins either side of 5.20am. I even gave him 10ml of medised this time hoping that would make him sleep longer, alas no difference.

What can I do to break this cycle? I am thinking of keeping him up really late tonight to see if that makes any difference.

I am so hoping this phase will change soon but I'm dreading the clocks going forward in case he wakes up even earlier :-(

At this rate I'll have to go to bed when he does, just to get my sleep quota.

FloriaTosca · 26/02/2009 08:53

LLL;((((hugs)))) Is Bens room really dark? We have a venetian blind (came with the house) and curtains but the lighter mornings are still apparent.I have found Alex sleeps best when he is a) exhausted from playgroup or swimming and b)full of supper.. personally I havent found a late bedtime makes any difference at all...but every child is different, who knows, it might crack it for you. I hope you get some decent rest soon.

Alice;fingers crossed the survey went well.

LisaLessLumpy · 26/02/2009 09:32

FT at 5.20am it is still pitch black outside. I am dreading the lighter mornings.

I don't see how I can tire him out anymore either, he never stops and we were out for a walk for over an hour yesterday afternoon too.

I feel sick, I'm upset, I lost my temper big time this morning and shouted so loud I have hurt my throat. They didn't particularly deserve it and it was all aimed at Sam too as he started crying that he didn't want to go to nursery (he loves nursery) and refused to put his shoes or jumper on. I feel so guilty and ashamed that I lost it.

Its a good job they are at nursery till 3pm, I may have chance to calm down.

Dalrymps · 26/02/2009 10:02

LLL - Oh Lisa, don't worry, it's normal to lose it now and again, we're all only human. I'd be shouting at everything and everyone if i'd been up at 5.20am every morning, I don't do early mornings well at all!

Good that they're at nursery, maybe you should really concentrate on doing something for yourself today? Maybe have a nice bath/watch favuorite film/buy a nice treat for yourself?

FloriaTosca · 26/02/2009 10:43

LLL(((((bigger hugs))))Losing it is totally understandable...its just a fact of life that whichever child upset you the next one to do anything out of order is the one who gets the tongue lashing. I hope you get some time this afternoon to recoup some sleep and your equillibrium...sorry I have run out of ideas to help you....I hope someone can think of a miracle cure for you

WhiteWineAndJaffaCakes · 26/02/2009 19:42

LLL - hugs to you. Can you get someone to babysit for a couple of evenings/nights while you try and catch up on some sleep? No advice on getting Ben to stay asleep I'm afraid. Have you looked on any of the sleep threads?

muppetgirl · 26/02/2009 19:59

Told you it would be another boy Love the name too

Well Ben didn't sleep at all at nursery, so he went from 5.20 am to 2.50pm then slept for an hour in the car. I have just put him to bed now. If he doesn't sleep longer than 5.20 tomorrow I will just have to put up with it.

NeedCoffee · 26/02/2009 21:08

LLL- I hope he sleeps for ages and ages, will have my fingers crossed for you-no advice as i'm sure you're doing everything possible(although i have resorted to spraying 'sleepeasy'(or whatever its called) linen spray on Shannons' bedding, bathing her in bedtime bubble bath and putting the bedtime baby lotion on her! although not sure you'll be able to do that with your boys with the exema?)

just a quicky, am shattered, been non stop cleaning for 2 days and still haven't got half the house done, bloody washing inc net curtains, curtains, blinds, bedding, washing windows and ironing seem to have taken up most of the time especially with her ladyship very kindly clinging to my legs throughout.

Congrats Muppet-how you feeling anyway?

off to watch baby borrowers, love to all

xxxx
