DS2 needs ultrasound now, awaiting appt before another back with paeds outpatients. Bit like poor Luckydaddy, bit of a waste of time, but thankfully not with the pain. I was upset at the time since I'd got it into my head I owuld be told if he needed an op. But think he probably will.....

MM you are amazing to cope with the interrupted nights, your birthday plans sound hectic too! But with all that family it's difficult not to have big celebrations.

We have no definite plans for DS2's birthday, DH has the week off so we'll probably visit friends in Cardiff and spend the actual day with PIL, since we spent DS1's birthday at my parents, I try to be fair .

Haribosmummy · 18/04/2009 21:39

Niknak - sorry to hear you didn't get a definitive answer.

MM - Totally agree with you on the job front... I couldn't have gone back to work where I was in the construction industry - too male dominated and too much of a daily bloody fight not to be seen as a bimbo / walking pair of boobs . Have a look at the TDA website - it has a lot of information about training to be a teacher and there are lots of short courses / taster days to see if you think it would be for you. It took me a long time to come around to the idea (I'm pretty disenchanted with chemistry!!)

I wrote another long post this morning, but DS likes to help me type and he managed to press the 'delete' key!!!

DH's ex is still being as mad as a hatter difficult, so we've gone ahead and told the kids about the baby. We were hoping to wait till she was a bit saner calmer, but the baby might be at senior school by then!

No definite plans for DS's birthday here either. We have DSDs here and will have sister and BIL, but DS isn't great with loads of people milling about so quite tempted not to overload him, IYSWIM... TBH, I would love a big party for him, but don't think he'd cope too well with being passed from person to person and would probably end up being really grouchy!!

We're having a joint party for DD1 and DD2 BH weekend. We will be away for DD1's 3rd birthday so will do them both togther with both families.
Not planning to do much on DD2's actual b'day (30th april). DD1 will be at playgroup in the am, we'll probably pick her up then all go to Costa coffee for lunch to celebrate DD2's birthday just the four of us . Then I have to meet a friend at Costco to buy all the food for the main event that weekend!

It's awful cos I was just saying to my sis how with DD1 I went mad on her 1st birthday, lots of little pressies to open, and I remember buying her card weeks in advance. Poor DD2, I've barely given it a second thought!!

Oh, and the shoulder pain has returned

LM really sorry to hear the shoulder pain has returned.

We finally had a semi-decent sleep last night (10-5!) so am feeling much better. Though putting dd to sleep has been a problem the past 4 nights as she almsot goes off then starts laughing and crawls to the end of the bed giggling. It's very cute but incredibly frustrating. After almost 2 hrs last night we resorted to puttiing her in the car for a drive and she was asleep within 5 minutes. I am scared of getting into habits like that but we needed some rest last night.

Okay - here's the recipe - the only thing I warnis that the colour is a bit bright - well, it's the colour of butternut squash surprisingly (blush) but it is a bit bright. Dd LOVES them though and has just devoured one for breakfast. I've tried them with courgettes, broccoli, carrot - loads of different veg and they're always lovely.

Ingredients:

150g self raising flour
150g plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
150g grated cheddar
1/2 tsp (or less) salt
1/2 tsp black pepper (I often leave this out as was a bit strong for me)
2 medium lightly beaten egges
200ml whole milk
3 trimmed and finely chopped salad onions
150g butternut squash cooked and mashed (or 150g grated courgette / other veg)

  1. Heat oven to 180/GM4. Butter tin and line with squares of parchment paper. (I don't have a muffin tin so used several little glass pots left over from desserts & a big tin spacing dollops out & they were fine)
  1. Sieve 2 flours together and add baking powder in large bowl. Add seasoning and cheddar.
  1. Beat eggs and milk until smooth then add to flour and stir gently until well combined.
  1. Lightly stir in buternut squash and salad onions.
  1. Spoon into the tin and cook for c.25 minutes (the original recipe said 20 minutes but I've found mine need around 30 minutes but I don't have scales so I mix in rough amounts that look right which could be why)

They keep in the fridge for 3 days and freezer for 2 months. They freeze well - I get one out at night and it's fresh and lovely by the morning for dd's breakfast.

Hope they don't disappoint you!

Finally (this won't be as long as my last post I promise ) I met my boss yesterday & seeing as the Olympic client is offering 2.5 times my usual rate for me I think I am going to have to just resign.... Gotta go - dd's pulling my boob out my top !

Niknak21 · 21/04/2009 09:21

LM Keeping my fingers crossed the shoulder pain miraculously disappears again.

MM may just have to get my MIL to do that recipe with DS1 at the weekend, or with DH. Don't mind cooking/baking myself, but love to delegate when I can!

We're off to PIL at weekend so I can pick up my ski boots from Bristol. They sold me some for my trip back in Feb but they gave me bashed big toes. (One toe nail is now an attractive shade of turquoise and I'm hoping it won't fall off for the summer). So the day after we got back I returned them but they had to order my size and we've not been back that way to collect them yet. Will have to try not to look at what they now cost in the sale! The other slightly worrying thing is we probably won't be able to afford to go next year .

Also LM thanks for hand foot and mouth link, after reading it I think it may have been DS1 who gave it to DS2, he had spots under his nose/around his top lip over the Easter weekend which I thought were from his runny nose, but from that pic it looks like that's what it was. Ahh well at least I won't have to worry he's going to come out with it.

I have a 'take control of your life' course to go on tomorrow, run by the same person that did the 'beat stress' one I did earlier this year. She was very good and I'm hoping to get some oomph and positive thoughts to see us through 2009 . But now I must go and fold the washing I could be bothered to do last night

luckymummy74 · 21/04/2009 14:22

Just tried to print out the recipe (thanks MM!!) and managed to print 8 pages of our thread!!!! Might put it in my memories box to look at in years to come!!!

Lovely day here, hope all well with you all.

what happened to Wednesday??!!!

Mitchell81 · 23/04/2009 14:25

Hello everyone. had DS2 weighed yesterday and he is 28lbs, same as what he weighed 2 months ago. So I am pleased that his weight gain has settled down. He now only has two 7 fl oz bottles of milk and 3 meals a day with one snack.

Thanks MM for the recipe will definetley be trying it.

DS2 is 11 months now and has been leopard crawling (moving on his tummy) for over two months now and this weekend finally crawled properly. very He has also mastered pulling himself up to standing holding onto the furniture.
And forever bumping his head so has lots of bruises.

His birthday is on 12th May and will just be having a family party with us all sitting at a table with children's party food and using 1st birthday party plates, cups and napkins etc. DS1's 3rd birthday is afew weeks later so will be having a big party with 16 plus children then.

Hope everyone is well, always read but seldom (sp?) have anything interesting to say.

Hoping to have another nice weekend as have family coming to stay.

baiyu · 23/04/2009 21:37

Evening all, both my boys (DS and DP!) in bed with flu and high temperatures but currently sleeping thank goodness. DP's in the middle of his exams so this is really bad timing, just hope it goes away soon, his next exam is Monday so he has a few days yet.

Fuzzy the interview is for the job DP applied for ages ago, it's a really really long process, most frustrating.

MM thanks so much for the recipe, I have all the ingredients so will be making them tomorrow. Perfect timing! Our sleep issues are still unresolved, calpol probably helping tonight!

Hm I am still doing the Monnwalk, I figured you wouldn't be joining us even though you do sound like a bit of a superwoman! Training's been a bit lax so far, shame on me. gingerwench and I did 10 miles a few days ago with our DSs in back carriers, I was limping around yesterday and still not fully recovered (twinged my back), still I won't be carrying Finn on the night!

Mitchell glad your happy with DS's weight. Do you know when your DH has to go off-shore? Keep thinking about you with all these scary helicopter stories

Need to make some birthday party plans, we were just going to invite a big crowd for a picnic but actually DS may be a bit overwhelmed by that, hmm.

Off to check on the feverish ones... Night all

luckymummy74 · 24/04/2009 19:43

Would just like to say thank God I don't live in USA!! I spoke to my mate who emigrated there 4 years ago and her DD is 1 in July. She went to a clothes swapping party with some women (wives of her DH's work colleagues) who have babies similar age. They were all telling her about their plans for 1st birthday parties...what theme they were having, how they had to order the invites 3 months in advance...that they have 4 different cakes...a normal one, one without eggs cos kids aren't supposed to eat eggs until one (I thought that meant undercooked eggs??), a vegan cake and a gluten free cake.......
My poor friend is feeling rather out of her depth....and wishing she was back in the UK with people with common sense!!!
Sounds very competetive out there too .

fuzzy glad you had a good time away...what great weather! Which one did you go to? We went to Elvedon in January.

Had a really boring lovely day at home with the girls. I think they might be getting chicken pox (my neice has it). DD1 slept for three hours after lunch!!
Not been out all day as she wasn't feeling too good, DH been at work all day so I am looking forward to him coming home soon for some adult conversation.

At least they slept for so long, I managed to get all the party bags and pass the parcel etc done for the party next week. Thought I'd only invited 6 friends but they all have siblings who I know will come aswell so got 13 kids here next Saturday then over 30 people on Sunday !!

Hello all!!

Just checking in quickly!

Fuzzy - Glad you had a lovely holiday!

LM - Hope it's not the pox and good luck with the parties!!! I'm not planning party bags or anything like that either - but we, like Fuzzy, are only expecting babies! How is the shoulder pain now?

Baiyu - Hope both your boys are feeling better now!

Niknak - How was the course?

Monkeysmama - Hope the sleep is going ok for you! DS is sleeping through pretty consistently, but gets up at 5:30!!!!! Let me know if you have any free days and we can organise a meet up for wine (you) and OJ (me!)

In my defence....I'm only doing very simple party bags cos Sophie is going to be 3, she's been to a few parties and knows what to expect. I have never done them before and certainly wouldn't be doing them for babies! We went to Asda and I managed to get all I need for eight bags for about £7!

She's much brighter in herself today so Gawd only knows what's happening!!

Shoulder not too bad. Certainly not as bad as before. I'm being careful.

Happy Sunday all!

Fuzzypeach Glad to hear that you had a nice holiday. Must have been nice to spend time together as I know you both work long shifts.

Baiyu Thanks for asking, DH not going to go away offshore on a regular basis which is so much better for us. Might do the occasional trip but nothing permanent. Very happy
Hope your boys are better and good luck to DP with his exams.

LM Will be going to asda for party bag goodies- thanks.

Haribosmummy · 28/04/2009 18:35

ARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!

Please! Those of you who baby led wean! PLEASE come and tell me how you cope!!!!!

DS is in a 'I can feed myself phase' and is currently snacking on pasta, spinach, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower and some mushed up veggies and the MESS is indescribable!!

There is green gunk EVERYWHERE! Lunch was potato and fish, so atleast neutral colours but this is vivid green!!!! ANd I'm really not too sure I'm going to like what comes out the other end Still, veggies are good for him, aren't they!!!

DS is in a VERY independant phase now - all of a sudden, he can crawl and walk on his own (crawling is great now, walking is not-so-stable!!), he's talking and understanding the meaning of words, he knows when he's being naughty (and he LIKES it! ) and now he wants to feed himself!!

WHere did my baby go???????????????????

Who (esp. us first time mums!) thought the baby stage would be over and we'd be into the realms of toddlerdom before they hit one!!!

Still, I get the baby stage all over again in a few months time

Just trying to decide whether I would prefer a part time nanny or a full time au pair... pluses and minuses to both really..

Hope everyone is well and no-one has been struck down with swine flu yet

Well, best go and salvage what's left of my kitchen!!!

HM xx
