Hi girls

Hope everyone enjoyed mummy's day. We were just back from holiday but had a lovely day - breakfast in bed, pressies, walk in park & picnic. Saw my mum too so it was a lovely day.

Macaco the women I know that take dianette do so for acne related reasons!??!

Dd has a bottle when I go out (she's still bf on demand apart from that) & I can't see her stopping that for a while. Like HM we've not beento hv since 8 month check - maybe we need to go back

Dd's stirring in my arms so best go - sorry it is short. Hey to everyone.

MM

FP - Still thinking of teaching, spoke to the careers place today (Govt dept) and they are really keen for me to go into teaching.

trouble is, I'm totally disillusioned with industry in the UK. As an industrial chemist, I get to work really long hours in a very male dominated sector (don't even think of asking for flexible working patterns / working from home etc)but the pay is St and there are no perfomance related bonuses likes sales.. But, if there is a problem, you can bet your life the sales dept will blame R&D ... I don't think I could motivate myself to go into that industry again, never mind the next generation!!!

So, thinking of general science (younger kids maybe) - stuff that's more relevant to everyday life...

GOsh, sorry, that was a bit longer than I intended!!

Good luck with hearing next week... Stand your ground. YANBU!!!!

MM - Lovely to hear from you!!!

I was on Minulet before DS... I never had a single side effect, but I also got PG with DS so not sure I'm the best recommendation for that one ever!!!

Can't believe we are into the realms of first birthdays!!!!

Night all!!

HM xx

hi everyone,

not been around for ages since going back to work.. life has been crazy i don't know how those of you with more than one, and back at work, do it!

DD has been in nursery a few half days a week and has screamed each time she's left and cries each time she's picked up hopefully it'll get better.

just to say, baiyu try not to use hydrocortisone too much - we've had to use it for DD now and then, but try to use it very sparingly as it can thin the skin. we've been using diprobase throughout the day, 7-8 times at least, after meals, during nappy changes, whenever we remember, and it does help.

fuzzypeach i know what you mean about cups. only my DD won't even take a bottle - she was fully BF for 8 months but for going back to work i had to wean her because of my hours. absolutely refuses all bottles, will take water from a cup but not much. so we're having to spoonfeed her milk, which is a nightmare. i'm just hoping one day she'll grow out of it. and, she vomits with lumpy things too. sigh.. bit tired of being covered with vomit, and having to clean everything up repeatedly. feels like she's a newborn again!

HM congratulations!

i must say though, isn't this age lovely. so interactive.. i think i fall in love with her a little bit more each day.

luckymummy74 · 25/03/2009 22:21

Ah, KWT, what a lovely thing to say (your last comment). I agree!!

FP AFAIK it's start cows milk once they are actually one. I have been advised to give one pint in total of formual a day until she is one.

I was on Dianette for acne in my 20's.

DH is being 'snipped' in April!!

Haribosmummy · 25/03/2009 22:26

LM - can you please tell me about the snipping process please?

Does DH just go to his GP or is it something he needs to get a referral for? He def. wants one, but the pressure is off until July / August

Can I arrange an appt for him? And What does the snipping involve? Will he need time off work, or am I over dramatising things????
I'm afraid I'm no help when it comes to pills. Was on Minulet (without any sideeffects) but that's when I had DS, so not sure that's the best recommendation ever!!!

Hello ladies, just posting and running to say it's my little baby boy's first birthday today! We've had a lovely day in the garden and a sponge cake with candles! Feeling quite misty eyed about how fast they grow! Can't believe it's been a year already!

Happy birthday Macaco's DS

FP - sorry to hear about your DH... alot of my friend's DH's here are feeling like that... I think the worry of the recession (or whatever it's called nowadays when no-one has any money and, even when you do, you are shit scared of spending it!) - it's a very difficult to time to consider a career change and I think men don't deal with talking about problems all that well.

I've decided, after long consideration (of 24 hours) that I really do need to train to be a teacher. It's really the only profession that I'm qualified for that there is a guarentee of a job at the end (which will at least in part) fit in with DS and DB. It'll take me 2 years to qualify (as I really can only sign up for part time)... So hopefully will look to start in January 2010. Freelance work, in all honesty, has been tougher than I thought. There is so much involved in FINDING work in the first place and then just trying to get paid is a joke in itself. I'm forever chasing people up for work done and I don't have the time or the energy to do it!!!

Well, that's me for the night. Friday tomorrow .

shonnomanom · 27/03/2009 11:54

Morning All!

I had no idea about trying to lose the bottles by age 1. DD has started refusing milk during the day. She'l normally have a bottle when we get in at night around 630, then another about 9ish. On the odd occasion she'l have during the night as well but its generally only about 1ounce during the night that she has. As far as the cup goes, she has always drank both milk and water happily.

Im wondering if its standard procedure for the babies to have a '8month check up' or if its a local health board choice. DD will be 10months on monday and iv never heard it being mentioned by hv and we'v been there every month this year as dd's weight hasnt been great due to her catching every bug passing through

Happy Birthday macaco's DS

HM my bil is goin in next week for the snip. My sil has a rare stomach disorder and has been told that she wouldnt survive another pregnancy so their gp had suggested he had the snip.
But as far as I know my bil had to see the gp to request it and have a full medical check up before being referred for a councilling (sp) session to ensure that he was fully aware of the risks and was metally ready for it.
As for needing time off afterwards, his procedure is on a friday and was told to have a relaxing weekend before returning to work on the monday. Hope this helps

HM Just to follow on from Shona, DH went to GP in Jan, got advised 'you do know it's permanent?' etc etc, and told we would get appt for GP (who used to be general surgeon...phew!) would do it. Got appt 8 weeks later for 'counselling' which was basically a 15 min appt with the GP who actually does the op, we were asked (we both had to go)
-how old are you
-how long have you been married
-how many kids do you have and what age
-what jobs do you do (??)
-you do know it's permanent

luckymummy74 · 27/03/2009 14:02

vasectomy info

Mitchell81 · 27/03/2009 14:32

All this talk about 'The Snip' makes be know for sure that I wouldn't want to do anything too permanent just yet, even though DH says that he doesn't want anymore as he will be too old and will then have 20 year olds when he retires. Because I have always said I will need to wait afew years before having another as need the boys to not need a buggy at all, even out in town shopping. I am 27 and DH is 39, so that is my problem.

But then I think how easy life will be if you don't go back to the babystage again. But it makes me to think that I won't have another baby. As my baby is nearly 11 months now, so growing up too quickly.

Happy 1st birthday Macaco DS

Mitchell81 · 27/03/2009 14:34

RE: Checks, my DS2 had a 6 month check and now nothing will 1 year.

Haribosmummy · 28/03/2009 08:09

Hello all!!

Thanks for the snip advice. Not sure DH needs counselling for it though... Counselling to deal with another child maybe

Gotta run - hope you all have lovely weekends.

Think I found a bridesmaid/maid of honour dress for my sister's wedding this morning!!
Got to show Mum and little sis on Saturday.

Anyone's little ones walking yet? (unaided)?

I have two friends (one being denny) with lo's born a month before DD2, both walking now. DD1 walked at 14 months. I can't wait for Dd2 to walk.....so cute!!

Last night I won them a little tikes playhouse, slide, see-saw and Smoby pink coupe car on ebay, £116 the lot, would be about £300 new!!! The seller is delivering them tomorrow!!

That's their birthdays sorted!

shonnomanom · 31/03/2009 13:19

Hi
DD isnt walkin unaided yet but this last week she has started to brave and let go of the table. Only for a second or so then she moves away.

Do all the mums in scotland know about the Scottish Baby Show in the SECC Glasgow 24-26 April.

There was an article in one of the sunday papers here about carseats and how Britax make rearward facing carseats for babies 9kg+ for Sweden but refuse to in the UK. Interesting... Here's the article

How lovely is it just now with all the sunshine and lack of the wet stuff, we just need a wee bit the hot stuff then it will start feeling like spring

Ds is only just starting to pull himself up to kneeling on the couch, nowhere near standing yet.

LM Lets see the dress

Haribo Are you ok, you have been very quiet?

Mitchell81 · 31/03/2009 13:47

Should read kneeling holding onto couch/sofa

Niknak21 · 31/03/2009 22:17

DS2 now has his appt with paeds, on the 17th April, although I think his balls are now in the right place .

My friend keeps taking the mick that he's going to walk early, but he's 10 months now and I think before now is early . Anyway he pulls himself up a lot and does look like he wants to walk, but hasn't got the balance. They look so funny when they're early walkers, but really cute! My friend's 3 year old walked at 10 months and I remember thinking what a floppy tiny baby she was. You can never tell which ones will do what 1st.

But it is all been really lovely the last few months watching him change. I was so stressed last time I missed this stage a bit.

DH has been talking about having another, but not sure I can be bothered with the whole pregnancy thing, plus another one means more stretch on the finances.

I hope all's well with your LOs x

We have walking without hand holding happening here (happy she's doing stuff, sad she can reach even more things I try to put out of reach). some days its most of the time, others she wants to hold hands and squeals very loudly if we don't help her. her crawl is frighteningly fast, and she has figured out how to go downstairs backwards. I was very worried about the stairs thing, well still am actually as our stairs are very steep. She was crawling in a freinds garden at the weekend and demo'd her 'backing up to go down the step' technique so even DH has seen her (he's even more scared than me and doesn't let her crawl upstairs).
About check -ups I seem to recall different areas have very different time tables, doesn't it say something like that in the red book? Also, if you have any concerns to contact HV or GP irrespective if a checkup is due?
arrggh at work and run out of time...

luckymummy74 · 01/04/2009 18:38

If I can find out the name of the dress and locate it on 'the web' (as my dear dad calls it!) I will link you to a pic of the dress....if DM (darling Mum) and DLS (darling little sis) like it!

niknak how ironic, my DH will be having his balls played with by a hopefully very old and male Doctor on 17th April too!

mumofk&j I love the 'backing up to go down step' manouvre....! DD2 hasn't quite mastered it yet, but I remember all the family stressing when DD1 was near a step and we would be all chilled knowing that she would switch to reverse at some point!

I too was wondering where HM is...very unlike her not to be on for so many days....you OK Haribo??

Must go, waxing friend due any minute [pain].
