just quickly - indigo - try not to worry too much i know it sounds easy to say. the top about feeling for them in the bath is a good one as at our 8 month check our GP commented that they were both slightly retracted - he said it was pretty common and to just keep an eye on it and he would check again in a few months. I think had a check the other night after ds2's bath and sure enough they were both there although quite often at nappy changes they are a lot tighter and would appear not so descended iyswim?

on the subject of ops ds1 will probably have to have an eye op to sort out his crossing when he is concentrating on close up work... as he had a groinal hernia repair at 6 weeks (he was 8 weeks prem so he wasn't even term!) I was hoping that would be our bad luck for ops, but it appears he is going to have to have this one as well.

anyway, manic here with preps for my trade show on sunday - the signage hasn't arrived and they have promised me it will be here by 930 tomorrow morning or the MD will drive them down himself from leicester!

Mitchell81 · 16/01/2009 15:25

Flick Good luck with the show on sunday, hope it goes well. How is your business going?

Thanks for the nice comments re my gran, I'm very lucky that she lived long enough to see dd & ds and she did really love seeing them. I only got to see her every few months as she wasn't close by so it's lucky i'd just seen her, when she saw ds last week it brought a smile to her face, about the only thing that did make her smile i think as she wasn't really there anymore if you know what i mean.

Also thanks for the comments about boys bits! I was able to feel both of them after his bath this evening but to be honest I'm not sure how much this helps as the consultant was also able to feel the one she was concerned about but said it was a bit high so it's hard for me to know what's too high and what isn't if you know what i mean.

He's still got to have his 8 month check with the health visitor soon so I will wait and see if they notice it or not too.

Haribo - from doing a search on MN it seems it's a 45 minute routine operation normally done as a day case, i think it's the GA I'd be worrying about too though.

flick - it's a shame your ds has to have another op, it must have been very stressful the first time especially with him being so tiny. Good luck with the show, hope the signs arrive!

luckymummy74 · 17/01/2009 16:11

indigo One of my friends DS recently saw a consultant for possible undesecended testicle, they pulled and prodded a bit apparently (brought tears to her DH's eyes!) but said they were fine, just 'bouncing up and down a bit', so no op needed. Hopefully your DS will be the same.

My poor brother's undescended testicle wasn't discovered until he was.....17 yrs old !! He had to have op then!!

Niknak21 · 18/01/2009 10:19

Just a quick stag do update. Have dug in my heels and told DH he can't go (it's next weekend), he's not happy since we saw a friend yesterday who has a 2 week LO who's going. And he was trying to persuade me to change my mind. If anyone remembers the story this friend was one of the stag doos from last year, and my DH went to his in Wales ditching my bro and his wife who were visiting. All I have to say is men never grow up, and now I have 3 of them to look after!!

IndigoBlue · 18/01/2009 12:04

LM74 - 17! That must have been awful for him at that age, at least ds doesn't feel embarrassed which is something i don't have to worry about at the mo!

luckymummy74 · 18/01/2009 13:56

niknak With you on the stag do front....sort of! I went away with my mates last year so I don't mind him going away (we will both be going on my sisters and her fella's hen and stag dos...respectively!) but one of his mates is having 5 days in Barcelona for his 40th??!! Bit OTT non? I was happy for DH to go, as I can't complain when I went away with my mates, but it was 2 nights, in this country, paid for by Tesco clubcard points....DH thankfully not that bothered about going and doesn't have enough leave to go anyway, but it does annoy me that us girls can do things (I think) reasonably and they always have to go for so long and make it so expensive....!!

monkeysmama · 18/01/2009 17:57

Evening ladies

Indigo I am sorry to hear about your nan. I hope you have some nice photos to share with happy memories for dd & ds when they are older.

Just to re-confirm we are FMLs . I have stopped posting on any other threads after the baby bear incident (which totally freaked me out) but feeling very passionate about the Gaza situation I posted a few times on an "In the news thread". It was really interesting - exactly what mumsnet should be about - a forum for baby talk and those of us who don't get the chance for much of anything other than baby talk anymore to have a decent, informative debate about important issues. Anyway - for some very strange reason last night it descended into a horrible slanging match with people accusing another of being a troll and people who'd not had anything to do with the thread coming on and being really offensive and threatening even. I didn't know what a troll was and had managed to miss what a "Moldie" was too but oh was sad. Luckily it went away but I was disappointed (that it happened - not that it went away). Men often say that women are "b*&chy" (I HATE that word!) and jealous of each other & I always thought that was so wide of the mark but sometimes I wonder.

We're all still full of colds. Had dd at A&E again having been the the dr three times in the week when her temperature hit 40.3 but were told it is "just" a cold albeit a nasty one. They've given her anitbiotics which we started last night but have just realised I though dp had given her the 2 doses today but he thought I'd done it . Not sure what to do now & we've thrown away the paper that came with them....

Anyway, dd is on the floor playing the xylophone so need to go & give her a clever girl kiss.

MM

Haribosmummy · 18/01/2009 21:27

Hi!

MM I'm with you on Gaza.. It feels very unjust and also as though it's been timed to coincide with an outgoing useless president and an incoming president who won't want this on his watch. I guess we know for sure that Iran don't have long range missles though..

NikNak - I'm with LM on this one... it does feel that men seem to spend far more time, energy and money on socialising than women. To be fair, I would NEVER tell my DH not to socialise, or have a weekend / week away - he usually goes away with the boys skiing etc., but then I wouldn't expect him to have me cancel plans (if we'd already got people planned for a weekend, he'd never expect me to cancel IYSWIM) so I think it's unfair that your DH expects to leave you with guests...

Flick - hope the show went ok.

Mitchell - the photos of your DS2's christening are lovely... Looks like you all had a lovely day!!

So, big news here is DS is now the proud possessor (SP?) of 4 teeth - and my god did they make an entrance!!!

All else well, neither of my parents is well, and they've just cancelled a trip (they travel frequently) which is always a bit of a worry, as both are real 'get on with it / never ill' sort of people, so it's bad when they've taken to their beds...

ANyway, hope you are all well!!

FuzzyPeach - I really hope you chose sleep over housework!!!!

NikNak - Just re-reading what I wrote, I am not sure it makes sense... what I meant is if you had already made plans for your friends to visit, your DH should simply say to his mate, sorry, We've already got plans that weekend... Not put pressure on you to deal with it or cancel... that's what I meant!

OP posts:
baiyu · 19/01/2009 10:39

I think I must be a very lucky girl with my DP, I've had to encourage him to go out this week! He's constantly turning down invites as he doesn't think it's fair on me but this week I'm forcing him to go and have a boys night as he hasn't had any time off in ages. Also the poor thing spent yesterday going back and forth from the laundrette (washing machine still broken) so very very pleased.

Woops, time to run to doctors, back later x

Haribosmummy · 19/01/2009 17:45

Hi guys!

Hope you are all OK today! DS seems to be back to full form today - thank goodness! I think most of the trouble were those two pesky top teeth! He even managed veggies with chicken for lunch!!!

He is watching Peppa Pig right now!!! He ADORES peppa pig. He watches arund 30 minutes of DVDs around this time in an evening if he's not had too much of a nap in the day, it's just a nice quiet time for him, before bathtime!!

Anyway, I would like to post this in AIBU but as most threads deteriorate into a slanging match (However the innocuous hte OP!)... so here you go: Do you think I'm being unreasonable to have 3 buggies?

I have a Quinny Zapp, which is great for traveling cos it's so small and light, but it's not really that comfy etc. And I have a Mamas and Papas one, which is great (HUGE!!) for dog walks but it's quite old (One of my e-bay purchases!) and muddy... so I want another one - larger than the quinny one but much nicer than the mamas and papas one...

DH thinks 3 buggies is really too much... But, I'd really like another one!!! And, (if you think it IS reasonable!) which one would you recommend???

Baiyu - hope the Drs appt. was routine!

LM - How is the new routine working out?

Niknak - Has your DH come around yet?

HM xx

Haribo
DH in strop, I think because of stag do. To make matters worse I spoke to my friend today and they may leave on Sat eve, so he could go for the Sunday daytime activities which is race track car driving, which is the bit he wants to go to. Going to see when friend is going to leave before mentioning it to him though...I don'tlike stopping him from doing thingd he enjoys, but resent it when it is at the expense of my stress levels IYSWIM

I have 3 buggys

IndigoBlue · 19/01/2009 19:06

haribo - I have 3 pushchairs, but one is a double. I guess you need to keep that in mind too that if you did have another baby and needed a double then you might end up with 4 pushchairs! If you've got the storage though don't see why not.

Mitchell81 · 19/01/2009 21:37

Buggies: Well I have a Quinny 3 wheeler(speedi), Quinny zapp, Maclaren buggy, Mothercare buggy, Jane double 3 wheeler. Not to mention DD has 4 including a wheelchair.

But in my defence I only bought one for DS1 and the double when DS2 arrived. So it is over 7 years I have accumulated 9 prams and yes I still have them and use all of them except Mothercare and Maclaren buggy.

DH thinks I do have a problem, but your needs change and there is always something more suitable out there.

Haribo What have you thought about getting. I would maybe recommend a 3 wheeler off road type so bigger than the zapp and does more. Good for cross country walking and around town as easy to push.

monkeysmama · 19/01/2009 21:44

Am the only one with only one pram ?!!? We have the Quinny Speedi and whilst it has caused problems on public transport I wouldn't swap it.

Mitchell81 · 19/01/2009 21:54

Monkeysmama Don't worry you still have plenty of time before your DD outgrowns pushchairs to increase your collection.

monkeysmama · 19/01/2009 22:11

Ha ha - thank you Mitchell. I might use this thread as an excuse for a new one. I would like a red pushchair and a matching buggy bag!

Mitchell81 · 20/01/2009 09:00

There you go you are nearly there. By the way I also love my speedi, but I agree abit wide for public transport, but will last a long time as the seat is big.

monkeysmama · 20/01/2009 09:56

The only problem with the Speedi - aside from public transport - is that the wheels can pop. Mine went at Christmas and a woman on a train I got chatting to had the same pram and said she'd had a bust tyre three times in 3 years (which maybe is normal??) I have friends who are triathletes thoug & they have taken their dd who is now 2.5 running etc in their speedi and it still looks great.

On another note. Am starting to think about nurseries . Late me thinks as I'm going back to work in May but I am a bit confused. Do I find a list of nurseries I'd consider then ring and make appointments to visit? Is there no paperwork etc I need to fill in or a formal procedure? I am a bit stupid where this is concerned.

MM

Mitchell81 · 20/01/2009 10:24

Monkeysmama I have had my speedi since 2005 and never had my tyres popped. About nurseries yes go see afew that you like and then get a feel about them when you visiting. You will only fill out paperwork once you have chosen one. Hope you get a place in the one you want.

Haribosmummy · 20/01/2009 10:25

All, thank you all for the advice!

Mitchell - I am looking for something robust, not too large, suitable for walking into town and maybe going for lunch and shopping. And, if I'm honest, something a bit 'yummy mummy'

MM - If you are sure you want to use a nursery (as opposed to a CM or a nanny), then you can find a list on the internet - just simply make an appointment to go and look around... Once you've decided which ones you like, there will be alot of paperwork and deposits etc.,

I looked at quite a few as I planned to leave DS for a couple of mornings from January 09, but I haven't gotten around to it and my work (at the moment) doesn't require me to use a nursery.

I was working till just shy of midnight last night but thankfully DS slept through till 8am (apart from a bottle at 5am, but he goes straight back to sleep)... I am really thinking I need a more formal sort of job, rather than this freelance work....

OP posts:
monkeysmama · 20/01/2009 10:49

HM - let us know what you settle for. I mentioned it to dp last night and we may get another one too!

This whole nursery thing has made me feel so sad. I've found 3 locally I'd consider although a friend's LO had a bad experience at one of the 3 but I think that was down to the kid not the nursery (how horrible am I!??!) The idea of leaving her at 12 months from 8-6 two days a week is horrible! And we'd really struggle to get her by 6 tbh. I may be able to do 3 shorter days instead but reckon I'll struggle to find a nursery that will accommodate that. I've left it really late anyway it seems - round here people are registering for the "top" nurseries while they are still pregnant!

monkeysmama · 20/01/2009 10:50

HM - meant to say that here the new Storke ones are very fashionable. I am not a fan personally but they seem to have replaced the Bugaboo as the pram to have and I even saw a woman carrying the Storke pram bag without a baby the other day
