Hey ladies, apologies for a long absence, well it feels long anyway! Thanks kwt for the hydrocortisone advice, I know you're not meant to use it much. Our problem was that the first doc said to put big greasy epaderm on first then hydrocortisone on after, it was only when we saw the third doc that they said to do it the other way around as it won't ever have reached the skin so that was a bit of a waste of time . We have much weaker stuff now and only putting it on the really bad bits and just greasing him up with a vast assortment of creams throughout the day. It is getting a bit better but still majorly itchy which keeps him awake.

Sleep is still bad here, getting worse. I think he wants to drop the morning nap but the afternoon one has only been 30-40mins all week which just isn't enough. He goes down in his cot ok and is settled a few times til we go to bed. Then all hell breaks loose and he refuses to settle until he's in our bed, sometimes we get him down in his cot for an hour or so but that's all before he;s screaming. I know it's totally my fault and he has all the wrong sleep associations and thinks that the place to sleep is our bed but I don't know how to change that . DP and I just get more stressed, upset and knackered by the day. Harrumph.

No crawling here still.

Sorry, totally self centred message. Hope you're all doing well and your LOs are having fun in the sun! Night all

Haribosmummy · 02/04/2009 11:48

Hi,

I'm just checking in too.

Baiyu - sorry you are having a tough time of it. DS also seems to think that the place to sleep is my bed.. Goes to sleep in his cot without problems, but has been in my bed by 2am each morning this week!! It's not that much of a problem at the moment, as DH isn't here, but I really don't know how to stop him waking up in the night. I'm trying to get him to eat more in the daytime to see if that helps!

No news here really... Feeling tired, and a bit fed up with the monotony (lots of friends have gone back to work now, so missing their company!).

DS has a small rash on his eye lid... Not really sure what to do about it. It's not itchy and doesn't seem to be contagious - it's not spreading but it's not disappearing either. Think I will pop into the pharmacist.

Can I ask what you guys have done about baby shoes? DS could really do with some 'outdoor' shoes now - something with a sole as he likes to 'walk' (not unaided!) now. Do I need to get his feet measured and, if so, where? Clarks? Mothercare?

We're expecting a houseful this weekend, which I should be looking forward to, but I'm just shattered and sick of trying to fit in housework around DS's naps... [grumpy emoticon!]

Sorry for depressing post!!

Hi ladies

On the subject of sleep. DD has just suddenly changed from getting up approx 5 times in the night to reducing to twice last week then now touch wood just once, and that is at 0430 almost to the minute every morning. No idea why she just suddenly changed, but I am so grateful that she did. Hope this gives any sleep deprived mums hope.

fuzzypeach we'v been together 7yrs this month too, we'l be celebrating on the 19th.

Had a bit of a rough morning here in the house of Sho. DD fell head first (from a low height) and burst her lip. You can imaging my panick with her screaming and the blood pouring out her mouth. We were straight up to the nurse, covered in blood and panicking. But fortunatly she had stopped bleeding and screaming by the time we got there and her teeth are ok. She's got a fat top lip that she keeps touching then crying poor lass.

Haven't even thought about shoes yet sorry

Sho x

Hi everyone

Sho, god that must have been scary! DS fell when he was starting to crawl and bled a teeny bit from his lip (for about 5 minutes ) and I was beside myself! Hope her lip's not too huge.

Baiyu sorry to hear the sleep is still a problem for you. I have no ideas at all I'm afraid. Maybe you could post on the sleep threads, perhaps someone there would have some ideas or at least could comiserate!

Haribo how's it all going? How far along are you now, did you find out the sex? Hope you're not doing too much, must be tiring with a wee one and being pregnant. Makes me shudder to think of it, but then I suppose I had such a horrible first 4 months (hyperemesis) that it just brings back memories. We're going to wait til Jan next year and then probably try for another. So, will be more like a 3 year gap. I need to try to get the translation business up and running before then.

Hello to everyone else.

Can I ask you FMLs about teeth cleaning? Ds's teeth, i mean...I know how to clean mine! I've been really slack and although we have a toothbrush for him (came with a mothercare grooming set) I don't have a routine for doing it and so always forget. What do I do, just a damp toothbrush? Is this mothercare one Ok or do i need a special one? When do you do it so you remember?

M

Niknak21 · 03/04/2009 09:17

I've also been slack with the toothbrushing, since DS2 has had teeth for 7 mnths! I love th wisdom toothbrush that HM mentioned a while ago, but it doesn't really matter. It's a good idea to use a fluoride toothpaste, the aquafresh milk teeth is good, better than the fruit flavoured ones. Just let him chew it a bit and try and brush. I've been trying to do morning and night recently, but most important time is at night. Good luck!

luckymummy74 · 03/04/2009 09:54

DD2 has 2.5 (!) teeth but i am still really bad at brushing them, as in, I don't! I think it's cos brushing DD2's teeth is the worst part of my day....and I just can't bear starting it all with DD2!!

HM I got DD2's feet measured in Clarks a few weeks ago, then got some shoes on ebay in the same size, she was measured IYSWIM. I just didn't wanna spend £20 on a pair of shoes she would only wear for a few weeks. I'm hoping she'll then just wear all of DD1's shoes.

Well ladies, it's happy birthday to me today! 35 24!! Having a lovely day so far, we are taking the girls swimming, then having lunch out, then my parents are coming about 2pm, and tonight we are going into London with DH, my sis and her fella and meeting my cousin and his fiancee and going for pizza and drinks!! Can't wait!!!!!!

Have a good day all,

LM xx

Happy Birthday LM - The sun is out and it's Friday afternoon!!!! Got to be a good sign! Hope you have a lovely day!!!

FP - Hope your DD1 is OK and not feeling too down!!

Sho how is your LO's fat lip!? OK I hope!

My DS LOVES having his teeth brushed. I do it after each bath (he has one each evening) and I wwash them and he rinses (well, OK, he plays with the toothbrush while I put his nappy on!!!)

I've been doing this since he was about 3 months old (nothing to do with he fact my sis is a dentist and went on and on encouraged me to make it part of my routine!!

Well, best get on. Feeling much brighter for it being Friday and have just been into town with DS and DSD1 andn bought DS his FIRST SHOES and I also bought thte new baby a cot which matches DSs (he has a stokke sleepi) Oh, by the way, the new baby is a little GIRL!!! I really didn't mind either way, so couldn't have been disappointed but I'm really pleased (as is my mother ) I'm 21 and a bit weeks now and my 20 week scan was perfect!

Gosh, sunshine and spending money - the way to cheer a girl up!!!!

Hope you all have LOVELY weekends

Happy Birthday LM, hope you're at this moment having some exciting adult time .

Just wanted to comment on the awful time teeth brushing. I am a very bad mother and went through a time when we did pin DS1 down to do it. My friend showed me how they do it to patients with special needs . But he's fine now.

HM so pleased all is going well with the bump

Haribosmummy · 03/04/2009 20:23

ARRGHHHH!!! My husband's Ex wife is a NUTTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There I feel much better now!

As you were.

Help everyone!

I wondered if anyone had some advice..
DD has had this awful cold, and we're all passing it around each other, but she seems to have had it for ages (or a series of them) since starting nursery. Right now she's absolutely miserable sleeping, has been having calpol as often as she can get it for her temperature which is under control, but is so bunged up she sounds like she's snoring when she sleeps, and can't breathe, or get into a comfortable position, and is crying every half hour or so.
When held upright and with a bottle of baby olbas on her nose it gets better! But it's absolutely exhausting. And seems to have gone on for so long.

What do you all do with these awful colds? I know it could be so much worse, but it's hard to see her get so distressed when she wants to sleep, but can't. And crying of course makes it all worse.

Happy birthday LM! HM have you heard of pediped? They're beautiful shoes!
shonnomanom I'm in glasgow too! But am working that weekend I think.
baiyu hope the sleep gets better, I have so much sympathy for you!!

Niknak21 · 03/04/2009 23:08

HM That's why she's the ex...

kwt I would try ibuprofen alternated with the paracetamol, or even at the same time if she's not asthmatic and has no stomach problems. It's anti inflammatory porperties may help if her nose all sore inside. I assume you've done the propping up her bed at the head end? You could also try steam before she goes to bed, my HV suggested a hot shower run in the bathroom works well, that was her suggestions for coup. Olbas oil on a muslin tied to the cot, and/or on the radiator?

Now must go and google pediped! I love shoes

Niknak21 · 03/04/2009 23:15

Ok, yes, beautiful shoes, but why do I have 2 boys?????? The homepage is all girls!! I remember when I 1st had DS1, rows of girls clothes in the shops, and a small corner for the boys. It has improved slightly in 3 years, but HM you will definitely notice the difference, enjoy!

luckymummy74 · 04/04/2009 20:38

Congrats HM on expecting a girl, how lovely for you to have one of each!

Had a lovely birthday thanks all, got in at 1:30am!!! Been bridesmaid dress shopping all day, got mine and the two girls.

Just had fish and chips which was yummy!!!

LM Glad you enjoyed your birthday!

Niknak - thanks - the shoes are great!!

FP - Haha! nothing to do with the baby... she doesn't know about that yet (unless she reads my MN stuff - which isn't beyond the realms of possibilities!!) - No, it's actually how she was treating my DSDs that was getting to me.

Just got to let it go, but sometimes it gets to me! I've got to vent somewhere otherwise I'll end up ranting at DH and that does no good at all!

Ahh... the joys of motherhood... BEing puked on!!!

my bridesmaid dress. Unfortunately, the model doesn't appear to have eaten for 6 weeks had 2 kids and breast fed them both, so I don't think I'll be looking quite as 'hot' as she is .

my girls flower girls dresses Very hard to see in the photo, so if you can be arsed are interested, click on the red one below to see the detail. Bit of a 'quirky' choice, I know, but it's quite hard to find a suitable dress for a 15 month old who may be only new to walking! The big full skirts wouldn't have really been a good idea. Also, my sister's wedding dress is being made but is very much in a 'vintage' style. so we felt the girls dresses matched that style (not sure where that leaves me with my claret silk number!!).

Got this text from DH earlier...

"I've just blued a woman in with sack protruding from her bits. Waters broke all over crewmate, eughhhh!"

The poor woman (in labour).

Hope you all had a nice day. I did the weeks shopping with both girls and it went well, my shoulder seems to have made a miraculous recovery (haven't had injection yet, hopefully won't need it now). I saw this woman really screaming at her kid in Tesco, it was awful, she just went on and on and on....I know how she felt, I kind of wanted to slip a copy of the toddler taming book in her bag give her a hug.

Girls in bed now, I am shattered.

KWT you can buy 'snuffle babe' which is like Vicks for kids. Probably just a marketing ploy as it seems to smell just like Vicks .

HM Hope bump is progressing well!

Niknak21 · 06/04/2009 20:48

LM no time to look at dresses but hope to soon.

Your poor DH's colleague. But poor woman more, I can sympathise after my speedy DIY delivery, but not the one on the receiving end of the gunk. I wonder if it popped out enroute or she made it to the hospital. I will ponder on that one.....
