Jolly as long as you can touch the bottom of the pool that is fine in the unlikely event that you LO swims away I think it would be a great speed so you could pull 'em back I'm sure.

Our hols up here are the week of the 16th february.

majormoo · 29/01/2009 17:53

Hope everyone is well.

Kayzr really sorry to hear about your husband's job. Jam hope all OK with your husband's job.

Cat-I am really slack with the caffeine this time. I rarely drink coffee but have loads of tea and chocolate. It does not seem to affect DS2's sleeping who SO FAR (this is bound to change) is sleeping pretty well. I feel like I have been pregnant/breastfeeding for years-have 3 kids but have been pregnant 5 times-, which is my excuse for letting my standards slip re caffeine/wine etc

Trace-I'm rubbish at getting round to complaining but if you feel strongly then yes write. If it communicates the message in a clearer way to people though, I doubt they would change it. My thinking on the subject is skewed by my FIL, who drives me nuts going on about 'the correct grammar etc' and it irritates me that he cannot see that language evolves.

Sorry to moan about my in-laws who are really helpful with the kids, but yesterday my Mil went on AGAIN about how I should stop eating parsnips as they give DS2 wind. I hardly ever eat them anyway. I am going to give her a parsnip instead of an Easter Egg at this rate. Then she kept making comments about my wobbly tummy (give me a break-I have three children) which really annoyed DH. On top of this we had the usual comments that my DH and his brother were never naughty/wild/cheeky unlike my DD and DS1. The naughtiness clearly comes from my side of the family! Anyway rant over.

Veggiemummy · 29/01/2009 18:08

OMG MM does she realize she is being blatantly rude, my mother on many occasions whilst here would look at our boys and say 'oh they have boonger noses' this suggests they have noses which looks like an aboriginal nose, apart from using a highly racist term, WFT would you say that about your grandkids!! Both boys have very noble noses I think, they get them from their Chinese dad.

And JB as much as I feel unsure about giving ds2 a dummy (more out of sadness that he wants something other than me to settle him), as dh says if something helps him settle and he clearly likes it why would we deny him it. And that's good enough for me.

Oh and Cat about what your cranio said about letting them have their voice. I don't like letting mine cry but my breastfeeding book says sometimes if they are upset and you have gone through all the things you know to help settle them, fed nappy change etc sometimes it is ok to just cuddle them and let them cry. I have done it a couple of times with ds2 (ok maybe more than a couple) and was surprised how quickly he settles.

Veggiemummy · 29/01/2009 18:11

Hey MM next time she says your DH was never wild/naughty/cheeky you could make a comment along the lines of him making up for his earlier saintliness now in the bedroom.

jumpjockey · 29/01/2009 18:11

hi all, just to say i took a few pics at the meet-up and will post them on my profile page BUT if anyone would rather they or their nipper didn't get posted, let me know and discretion shall be the better part of valour

Veggiemummy · 29/01/2009 18:16

Sorry another post I keep missing things, MM it's interesting you say about language evolving Australians and Americans are often hassled because of the way we use language. However, often the terms and usage we use is actually the old way of using it that has remained since we were settled or subsequent generations came out, but the motherland's languagr itself has evolved.

kayzr · 29/01/2009 18:20

6 week check went well. I'm back on the pill which is good and he has made me an appointment to see a nurse to make a weight loss plan. My appointment was at 16:35 and I was seen at 17:30!!!

kmp1 · 29/01/2009 18:52

Oh no! I don't remember you taking photos JJ? I must have been getting coffee It was lovely to meet you all - although I'm sorry I didn't say hi to a couple of you (JJ,Arti & Cat sitting on the other side) I did admire your babies from a distance though WG, Oli lovely to see you again, and lovely to meet everyone else! Hopefuly we can do it again sometime!
Oli & Turnip I stopped at Mothercare on the way home and picked up the Mam "silk" dummy - but I haven't had to use it yet as DS soundly asleep in his vibrating chair but will let you know how it goes!! Wierdly enough, he kicked off on the way home from the train so I tried the TT dummy I had which he usually spits out, and he took it fine??? I wonder if it was just a "one off" or not? Will keep you posted! I also had them hold me a P&T's cocoon as they looked great, but not sure what DH thinks so will get it tomorrow - I think it fits in my "Out-n-About" too.
I also got the Swaddle blanket (Miracle blanket) which I had been trying to get as my friend swears by it and in the past they have always been out of stock, so test driving that tonight too and will keep you all posted!! I must put some photos up - will do that after I get dinner on....
Hope everyone else is ok and not too many unsettled night / days....

EffiePerine · 29/01/2009 19:49

Lovely to meet so many of you today . Though my ability to hold a conversation has been severely impaired by talking to a toddler all day and exchanging monosyllables with DH in the evening So many gorgeous babies (and glam mums) - look forward to seeing the pics.

Having slept all afternoon, DS is now manically feeding and doing his best Evelyn-Waugh-in-old-age impression

Verso · 29/01/2009 20:02

kayzr I'm sorry to hear about your DH's job - but glad your six-week check went ok today.

trace COMPLAIN!! Wasn't there something about Tesco recently changing their signs on the "five items or fewer" aisle because they weren't sure what the correct grammar was? (I did a linguistics degree so don't get me started .)

DD2 has astonished me the past three days. She has sorted herself out a little routine . She has even >whispers< settled herself for a couple of naps here and there! Blimey! Of course it will all go to pot now I've said that but I am so pleased!!

Really of you lot and your meet up. I will have to pop off to take a peek at jj's pics (and other alliteration of our time).

traceface · 29/01/2009 20:14

verso - my first degree was in linguistics too - we could get really boring with grammar chats!!

very of those at the meet up

Spare a thought for me tomorrow - it's the GP hemorrhoids appointment and I'm scared!

waitinggirl · 29/01/2009 20:27

just lovely to meet everyone today and felt wonderful to be out and about in central london with baby in a sling (albeit Turnip drove me, so didn't have to negotiate tube on my own yet). thanks to Turnip for organising it!

can't wait to see pictures - use any of me - don't worry.

verso - wow!!! fingers crossed this is the beginning of more settled times.

Veggiemummy · 29/01/2009 20:34

Hooray dh is home he is putting ds1 to bed while I settle jordy it's all a but late tonight because of the excitement of dh coming home. He is going to cook dinner too hooray.

He is now only in London 3 days so we will only be there til weds and not staying in Greenwich anymore. Needs to be somewhere within travel distance to Woking so more likely around Waterloo, can anyone meet at Waterloo weds morning for a cuppa. I'm a quite sad about not being in Greenwich Lal I love staying there when we are down usually it is quite good for him to commute but not this time. Oh well.

What is the story with the silk dummy? I think dummys might replace reusable nappies as my obsession this time. Ds seems to quite like the ones I got from greenbaby but that may change.

Right I think this boy is nearly asleep. Famous last words.

Veggiemummy · 29/01/2009 20:38

Verso did you ever manage to get a night nurse. My SIL has just hired one for alternate nights and said there were loads out there now and very highly trained. I think it might be something I might get into if credit crunch hits us or when this boy let's gets a bit bigger. I can't imagine working back on the wards doing nightduty but I could def do it in someones home looking after their beautiful bub.

kmp1 · 29/01/2009 21:43

Finally put some pictures up

waitinggirl · 29/01/2009 21:56

after an age of trying to settle dd, dh came downstairs having got her to sleep, only to have me set hte smoke alarm off while cooking lamb. i thought i was going to die... and guess what? she slept through it. atta girl!

waitinggirl · 29/01/2009 21:57

kmp - the photos are GORGEOUS!!

kmp1 · 29/01/2009 22:20

oh thanks WG! Hilarious about the smoke alarm! Things like that always happen when you're trying to be quiet!

Just a dummy update - he spat it right out!! I actually think he likes the |Tommy Tipee one better if that's possible!
Veggie Apparently "Mam silk" are the dunny's that babies who don't like dummies - like! Not this baby though.....
I'm trying to watch greys Anatomy, and DS has been quiet and now kicking off, plus my dog is starting to do laps of the coffee table since she was locked up all day! its going to be a long night - I can feel it!!

kmp1 · 29/01/2009 22:21

LOL! Hilarious!! I meant to write "Dummy" not "Dunny"!!!! !!!

SummerLightning · 29/01/2009 22:43

hi all great to meet everyone today.
Looking forward to another one sometime.
Wg re the fire alarm me and jj both walked past some road workers with loud drills earlier and both babies stayed asleep! I certainly couldn't have slept through that
Re swimming is it not normal just to take them in the paddling bit not the main pool if there is one as it is warmer? In which case not being able to swim would not be a problem.
Ds being a royal pita tonight. He had better go to sleep soon!

kayzr · 29/01/2009 22:51

WG DS1 slept through all sorts. Phone, fire engines going past, smoke alarm, doorbell etc. I was terrified at his hearing test that he would be deaf, I burst into tears when she said he could hear fine

DS2 hasn't wanted to be put down all evening, I hope its not a sign of the night ahead.

Verso · 30/01/2009 07:41

hmm not a good night. I jinxed myself! DD2snuffly again with another cold so v unsettled

Nice to see MN have done a spot of redecorating around here!

kmp love the photos!

veggie yes I've had a night nurse one night a week for three weeks now. Because of BF I don't really get a full night of sleep in the way I would if I was bottle-feeding, but it's still brilliant to know I'm "off duty" for the night once I've done the 10-11pm feed, until 5:30 the next morning! I am sure it's helped me not to get PND this time round.

Verso · 30/01/2009 08:10

Just pottering around the new-look site and found this. The "hit the headlines" link in it is priceless

kayzr · 30/01/2009 08:31

Morning,

Ooooh I like the new look.

We had an okish night. DS2 woke at half 5 after his midnight feed. But DS1 woke up and was wide awake. After trying to get him to go back to sleep DH got up with him and gave me a lie in.

daisydora · 30/01/2009 09:07

Good morning all,

Not a bad night here. DS settled about 8.30 and slept till 1.30, then 5 and then wanted up at 6. I'm in two minds wether or not to try dream feed - how are others finding it? I tried for about 3 weeks with DD and it never changed a thing tbh

I'm very excited about my night out tonight, I just hope DH doesn't go all wobbly and get me to come home...maybe I'll turn my phone off

Have funeral this afternoon, as DH uncle died on Monday

kmp lovely photos

verso sympathies that DD has another cold. We seem to be through the worst now, just the cough lingering a bit

Wg I regularly hoover around DS when he's asleep, and he never moves but if I sniff he startles and wakes

Quite liking the new look...verso love that link, very funny
