Hi everyone, hope you?ve all had a good day?

DD seems to be sleeping less and less during the day ? she rarely sleeps at all between 6am and lunchtime and this afternoon she?s had just 2 half hour naps. It seems so little for such a little one and I worry about her (and want to tear my hair out when she?s whinging with tiredness and I want to try and get something, anything, done), but DH has just pointed out that it?s much more preferable to not sleeping at night, which is a very good point. I think she would have slept a bit more if we?d gone out for a walk today, but the pram?s got a flat tyre, although FIL has mended it tonight (I?m too weak to get the tyre off), so we?ll be out getting our dose of fresh air again tomorrow.

Verso well done on that weight gain, it?s very impressive. I sometimes suffer with joint pain when I?m really tired, and the number of joints that ache correlate to how tired I am (just a little bit sleepy = ankles only, fairly tired = knees too, knackered = hips as well). For me I found the best thing was paracetemol and lying with my legs up and circling my ankles (if you get chance for a lie down), worth a try if no one can suggest anything better. I hope you get more rest tonight.

Katie your two were gorgeous at Christmas

KMP my Mum swears that a baby who sleeps well during the day will also sleep well at night, but your babe doesn?t seem to follow that theory ? I don?t know where she got it from though.

Sybil I haven?t worked out how to get photos off my phone either

Kayz so sorry to hear about your DH?s job, I hope something else crops up quickly for him, what a worry for you. And you do right to get some wine for tonight. And Jam, I hope you get good news in a fortnight.

Cat I?m with you on the cheese, I couldn?t give it up either.

And typically, after moaning that DD has hardly slept all day, she?s now dead to the world and I want to feed her and go to bed. Shall I go to bed and sods law will dictate that she wakes in half an hour, or shall I wait up and the same law will dictate that she won?t wake til midnight? Off to ponder that one for a while, night night all x

My poor ds1 I have been so grumpy and impatient with him and he really doesn't deserve it he has been such a great kid while his dad is away and is so good. I wish I could be more patient and not snap over little stupid things. Sometimes I can see how hurt he gets and it breaks my heart. I don't know how single mums cope.

Veggiemummy · 28/01/2009 21:49

It is nice for you if she sleeps fairly well overnight but it is quite hard not to get any sort of break from them during the day.

JamInMyWellies · 28/01/2009 22:27

I have a new weapon in the no daytime sleeping babies. DS2 bless him either gets woken from his naps or just doesnt manage to fall asleep much during the day. So have bought a close baby carrier and he loves it its brill pop him in it and off to sleep he goes only problem was when he was hungry and he spent 30mins gumming my boobs through my shirt.

Thanks for the kind words from you all I guess its just fingers crossed and if it does happen we will deal with it. I suppose living in a tent wouldnt be that bad.

Trace sory I disappeared after my dream feed query to you. We gave him it as a formula feed mainly because I dont have my breast pump. When I do I will make the DF a expressed breast milk feed. Not sure if it really helps but he does stay fast asleep and go straight back down but then he is awake at around 1 then I am having trouble getting him back down. I think its because at this stge babies can sleep for 5hrs at a time but that is once in 24hrs so afte that 5 hours ots back to 2-3 hourly waking.

Right best be off to bed, hi to everyone hope oyu all get good nights.

Well we didn't win the lottery!!!

LadyThompson · 29/01/2009 01:16

Just a super quickie ? back from the Midlands and off to Cornwall first thing in the morning. It?s so frustrating, reading but not being able to chip in!

Kayz ? so sorry about your DH?s job?fingers crossed he gets something else quickly (and Jam, that your DH hangs on to his). Oh, hope you get to Cruft?s ? I hear the BBC have decided to withdraw their coverage so sadly you won?t be able to watch it on the telly.

Arti ? I won?t blow your cover with your friend. I guessed you were in that group of girls who went on hols with D and I you can rely on my utter discretion, believe me.

Turnip ? I am REALLY sad about Updike. I get irritated with hero worship of writers in terms of their perceived personalities, generally, partly because of my line of work, but the world is a poorer place without him and if it doesn?t sound too daft, I am just glad to have been alive when he was alive. On a lighter note, never been a Cox. I like bossing boys about, yes (see below), but I am far too heavy, for one thing! I?d capsize the damn thing.

Indith, close ? it?s a cricket team I run, but well done for remembering the general gist! Ha. Actually, I am not much of a style guru but I have finally worked out a good job for me, anyhow. I can tread the grapes/tend the vines for all the cheerfulness! Mind you, that would only work for a Greek Island. If it?s a Scottish one, we?ll be on the moonshine.

Summer, I?m joining the Fatties just as soon as I am home on Sunday night. See you all then, and enjoy the meet-up?.

PS ? what IS this with Kevin McCloud? You are all loonies! Lovely loonies mind you. I?m with ZJ on Phil Spencer though. So is my Mum. He is so charming?

Olipop · 29/01/2009 07:24

Hi ..
Kayz so sorry to hear about your DH job (hope that doesn't affect the trip to crufts) and Jam my DH is also in banking so we are a bit scared too. Uncertain times.

Lal On the spidy suit, my brother was the one wearing it and I mentioned to his girlfriend that it didn't have to be returned until Tuesday !

Arm poo did make me chuckle!! Heidi had some 'foot poo' the other day that I hadn't noticed! Our washing machine has gone on strike. I managed to open the door when it was full of water on Tues. That was fun I can tell you! So now I have a bucket of crappy nappies and no washing machine. Madam also decided that this morning was the day to puke all over my bed! Great!

I realised that I haven't really mentioned much about Heidis sleeping or eating patterns! Mainly because there aren't any!! She's been very sleepy and we have been very grateful after experiencing an unsettled DS. She gave me her first unsettled night last night and we didn't know what was going on! DH has been sleeping in the spare room for the last week or so and that helps us all really although I miss him! But I dont miss watching him sleep whilst I feed! He has taken over the duty of getting up for DS which is no walk in the park. He has only had two undisturbed nights since Heidi was born so I think we're neck and neck on the tiredness front. I had Heidi weighed yesterday and she is 9lb 3 oz, that is an increase of 1 lb 14 oz in 4 weeks so I am really pleased.

kayzr · 29/01/2009 07:52

Morning,

Unfortunately it does affect the trip to crufts. I can't really go now as we can't really afford it. Its really annoying too as Mum said she would pay for my train tickets and I just had to get the railcard and pay for my admission. But I found a YouTube official Crufts channel so I will have to watch that instead.

I hope you are all well, we had a pretty decent night last night.

lal07 · 29/01/2009 08:20

Kayz am really sorry about your DH - I hope he finds something else soon. Also thinking of you Jam must be v worrying. Ay me. Is dreadful how quickly this recession is making an impact everywhere.

Cat hadn't even thought about caffeine having an impact (and didn't know I couldn't spell it until now either). My vice de jour is hot chocolate with a shot of expresso in it. Have previously been wasting time with coffee snobbery - idiot. This stuff is good.

Veggie I hope you're feeling less tired - yay to meeting in the park in Greenwich. The maritime museum has some really good things for LOs too - lots of buttons to press and levers to pull. And some good pirate stuff. What more could a boy want?

DS stayed in bed until 7 this morning - first time since he's been in a bed. Possibly because he didn't sleep much during the day. Think I would prefer him to nap and get up at 6 though. Hard to judge...

Have a good day everyone

lal07 · 29/01/2009 08:28

Ooh meant to say on swimming I took DS to classes when he was 5 weeks old. Which was a bit little really - but he liked and it loves swimming now, but I think that's because DH has taken him every week since he was about 1 rather than me taking him when he was so small.

Mothercare and John Lewis do good swim nappies if you don't want to use disposables. Only don't put them in the tumble dryer. I had to buy 3 newborn ones for DS as I kept drying them and turning them into dolls pants...

daisydora · 29/01/2009 08:47

Blimey you miss a day on this thread and its so hard to cattch up!

DS appears to be coming through his cold now and nights haven't been great but last night was much better. Although he literally slept all day yesterday DH was painting the new gates so said to put DS in pram for some fresh air...he slept 3 hrs half opened eyes for a feed and then slept another 2 hours But it did mean me and DD got some quality play time together which was good

DH been on best behaviour and for past 2 mornings has brought DS downstairs at 6ish and given him EBM, which has been fab as I have had more sleep and DS will happily take a bottle from DH, even whith his sniffles. Happy days all round as I am off out tomorrow night for my first 'girls night out' since DS was born. I can't wait....some proper 'me' time To all the ladies on the 'fatties' thread I will be good and not over indulge Besides I'll probably still do the night feed.

kayz sorry about your DH job, hopefully something will come along soon and jam fingers crossed for your impending news

katie beautiful pics

cat you have me worried about the coffee thing now...I can't live without it..I can't, I can't I can't {{starts panicking emotion}}

EffiePerine · 29/01/2009 08:51

Morning all! Trying to catch up again...

Kayz: sorry about your DH . How did he get on at the job centre? Thinking of Jam and Oli's DH's as well. Uncertain times indeed.

Swimming: never did the baby swimming thing, DS has gone a couple of times and liked it.

It strikes me that we're all sounding a lot more confident with our babies and their peculiar habits .

Off to get a snoozette and a bath in before i head into town - popping into the office then to the meet-up - see some of you there!

traceface · 29/01/2009 09:39

morning!
my house smells of poo.
dd2 did a mahoooooosive runny stinker this morning, but it was contained in the nappy...then as I was getting her coat on to take Lu to school, my nose told me something had happened - same again, although this time through every item of clothing - and the most gross bit was that when I took her nappy off, she squirted a load more out right into my hand! I was literally catching it with my naked fingers! ew! Muchos speedy wiping and redressing...zoomed to school in time for the bell...got home to the chaos and a pongy house. Doh! Just did a naughty thing and just binned the minging poo-soaked clothes rather than soak and wash them - very wasteful. sorry. I guess that explains why she seemed so grumpy yesterday if her tummy is playing up. Am thinking it was the very hot sauce on my chinese the previous night so now I feel bad.

I put Phoebe in Lu's old buggy today for the school bit from car to playground because my arms and back are killing from the car seat/ sling options and we have book bag, snack bag and lunch bag to contend with as well (woe betide anyone who puts their snack in their lunch bag!!!). The buggy is 'suitable from months' but with a snuggly coat and a big blanket she was really secure, and she seemed to enjoy her first wheeled outing! She stayed awake and now we're home she's gone into her cot and is having a lovely sleep!

I went to bed at 9 last night and DH gave Phoebe her expressed milk at 10.30. She took it well from the bottle (sorry arti) and then slept till 1.30, so I had a lovely 4 hours. Boobs were rocks though. I'd only got less than 2oz yesterday by doing a bit from the boob after each feed. Dh said she would have taken more. This morning I expressed from Lefty while feeding from Righty and got nearly 4oz. But now I think Left will not be ready to feed her when she wakes up very soon...

anyway, going to try for 10 mins wii fit before she wakes up.

have a good day all xxx

traceface · 29/01/2009 09:40

suitable from 3 months - that's what I meant!

traceface · 29/01/2009 09:43

oh and I'd like your opinions on a non-baby issue!

I went to Asda yesterday and there are huge signs everywhere saying "we're now using less bags".
It should be FEWER not LESS!!!!!
My first thought was to write to the local rag and express my horror at such a grammatical insult...but DH thinks I'm a wally and that no-one would even know that it's wrong. I'm a linguistic pedant and can't bear that sign!!!!

what shall I do? !!!!!!!

waitinggirl · 29/01/2009 09:50

trace WRITE WRITE WRITE!!! or before we know it people will be writing RITE RITE RITE.

and avda of all people

ps - you may have noticed i am not a stickler for capitals...

see some ppl at the meet up!

kayzr · 29/01/2009 10:29

I hope you have a great time at the meet.

Trace Write!!!!! You know we'll have to organise to go to London for a meet. we could get the train together.

CatDean · 29/01/2009 10:30

traceface · 29/01/2009 10:42

well she woke up, fed, smiled a little...and then we did 5 mins step aerobics and 5mins hula hoop together! She seemed to enjoy it and released a little wind along the way!

Kay - yay for a train ride to London - would have to find someone to do the school run but I'm sure it's possible!

kayzr · 29/01/2009 11:00

Oh and MIL sent DH a text about our neice but he hasn't recieved it. So we don't know what happened but she did try to tell us.

We could try something Trace, it would be so much fun.

kayzr · 29/01/2009 13:09

OMG!!!!!!!!

Have you seen that advert where the girl runs through her dads legs and then the boy tries it and headbutts him in the bits???

Freddie has just done it to DH!!!! I know I shouldn't laugh but DH laughed so it can't be that bad.

Veggiemummy · 29/01/2009 15:38

He he he Kayz that is funny. Ds1 used to randomly grab dh on his boy bits when he gave him a bath. I think he thought it was some sort of floating bath toy.

Lal buttons and pirates the place must have been designed by a 3 year old. If anyone else wants to meet up during school hols we could make a day of it. We are down in London the while week but I'm bust the mon & Tuesday. Kayz & Trace you could catch the train down then.

Aaahhh coffee, this sound really bad but I would have to be given absolute researched proof that it was bad for ds2 before I would give it up. I try to eat organic and not take too many medications and I use glass bottles etc (or at least I will when he does take a bottle), but I will not give up my coffee.

Trace you should definitely write. Tesco did the same sign last year and so many people complained they changed it. I wondered whether they think people resond to the work less rather than fewer.

Veggiemummy · 29/01/2009 15:42

Daisy I'm glad your dh is towing the line, we won't need to boot him in the bits then.

kayzr · 29/01/2009 15:43

I have just remembered I have my 6 week check at 16:35 today. Its a good thing I remember now and not in an hours time.

Veggie, when is half term?

JollyBear · 29/01/2009 17:33

Hello ladies,

I had my six week check today too kayz. Hope yours went well.

The appointment was at 10am and although I'd been up for nearly two hours trying to get us ready it was still a rush to get there in time. I was about to leave when I realised I hadn't so much as had a sip of water all morning and had to rush back into the house to literally gulp down some water and take a banana with me for sustenance! All was fine at the check and DD even managed a smile for our lovely GP .

Jam I hope you get good news about your husband's job.

Zoe I often have the same wake/sleep dilemma! Last night I didn't wake her and she slept for longer than usual . Maybe I'd have got more sleep if I'd have woken her before I went to sleep I don't know.

olipop I hope you get your washing machine fixed soon. I'd cry if the washing machine died at the moment - it has never been busier.

Oh MIL moan alert! She rang last night whilst we were trying to get DD to sleep. The little lady was rather unsettled and kept crying if she didn't have her dummy and then of course she'd cry when she nodded off and it fell out. I was explaining this to MIL and she said "What on earth does she have one of those for?". Honestly, you'd have thought I'd have told her that I'd given DD a crack pipe .

I like the idea of taking DD swimming but I can't swim . I actually failed the novice course twice . Do you need to be able to swim to take a baby swimming? I don't suppose they are up to doing lengths .
