kayz that sounds like a plan! go girl!
KMP - I've found that the night bears very little relation to the day - feeds, sleeps, whatever - the night just seems to be a lucky dip! The only occasion P slept for 4 hours in the day she did have a bad night, but that might not be related!
veggie - jabs advice...with a little one - a big boob waiting for comfort! With an older one my method is 'tell it like it is' - Lucy had her pre-school boosters last year and I basically said "this is going to hurt but it means that you won't catch some very bad illnesses that would make you very poorly. You have to have it and it's fine to cry when it hurts" - and gave a lolly as a reward! I think it's mean to say it won't hurt.

kmp1 · 28/01/2009 14:54

trace my day / nights have been consistant with good day = bad night and vice versa.... perhaps i'm imagining it though, being over tired!!

SybilFaulty · 28/01/2009 15:12

Trace, I am so sorry youare having such a rubbish day as well. Hope you have some choc and a cuppa. On days when I am overwhelmed I find it really hard to keep it together. Sometimes I have cried so much I have had to pull over in the car as I can't see well enough through the tears. I find the sling soothes both of us if M is very fractious. Is this something you could try?

I fed M when he had his BCG and he didn't even cry! I also discovered with the big girls that administering white choc non Nestle buttons at the time o the injection helped enormously. White choc better as it doesn't mark clothes like milk choc.

Hatty, you are absolutely right, I did used to be chutney, but I don't have twins - I meant that JJ and I have babies born on the first dec . She is just much more organised than me with the injections etc.

Kayz, the Crufts thing sounds fun. Could you take D with you or would be be at home with DH?

Hatty, about your dream feed, I would probably do it later myself as I find going to be really early on a regular basis a bit depressing. Could you express a bit if your boobs are sore or would that defeat the purpose? I am so slack here that I end up feeding M on and off all evening in an attempt to fill him up for a long stretch at night. Last night he fed on and off til 1.30 but then managed til 6.30 which was brilliant. I find sleep at night more refreshing than sleep earlier on so I'd hold off but not if that would defeat the point.

Veggie, glad your 6 week check was good. Your SIL sounds a pain though - I'd probably ignore her calls and then call back after a suitably long interval but I am an avoider. Could he say something to her about how he doesn't really feel able to help with her queries? Or could he be really brave and say how hurt he felt that she hasn't acknowledged Jordy's birth in any way? Would be braver than I would feel but probably a good thing for clearing the air.

Must go and fold laundry before I pick up the girls. Have called work and it was a surprisingly dull query. Am not really in the work groove though, when my manager asked me "what did you have?" I thought she was talking about lunch . Fortunately she is a bit dippy herself so it passed her by.....

kayzr · 28/01/2009 15:16

I am tempted to take D with me and leave F at home so they can do Man stuff(not sure what Man stuff a nearly 2 year old can do).

I suggested they went fishing but DH thinks F is too young.

kayzr · 28/01/2009 15:21

I have just put a couple of pics of the boys on my profile. They are off my phone so not that good.

SybilFaulty · 28/01/2009 15:32

Kayz, they are gorgeous! I love F's curls! And D looks very like my daughter did at that age. I do like a bit of hair on a baby, thoughM is a baldy at the moment. Just like his pa.

How do you get photos off your phone onto your computer My phone's a nokia if that helps?

kayzr · 28/01/2009 15:40

I have set my phone up so I can email from it. So I just email them to myself.

F has lovely hair but everyone thinks he is a girl. They were both born with loads of hair.

jumpjockey · 28/01/2009 15:44

sybil - it's not that I'm organised, it's that DH is a gp! so he's pretty much "get her vaccinated on the first day you can".

trace sorry to hear you're having a rough time [hug] very impressed with your honesty to L about jabs, much better to say that sort of thing than fib.

kayz love the idea of man stuff with a 2 year old! I guess fishing might be a bit, well, horrendously dull when he's still so small unless he likes to sit still for ages and/or falls asleep very easily! Could they sweep leaves in the garden/park or something like that? Gardening seems like man stuff and a tiny one can 'help out' maybe?

kayzr · 28/01/2009 15:47

DH has lost his job!!! It's his last day on Friday

Apparently there will be work for them in June.

katie3677 · 28/01/2009 16:11

Kayz so sorry to hear about your DH's job, what does he do? Will he be able to find something else fairly easily? This recession is a nightmare, we live on a knife edge constantly over DH's job, and my freelance work has almost completely dried up.

SybilFaulty · 28/01/2009 16:16

Oh Kayz, I am so sorry to hear that. Will he be able to get something short term to tide you over, do you think?

JJ, I forgot about your DH's job - makes me feel a bit less slapdash.

Katie, glad you got your tax return in!

My neighbour gave me a huge bag of clothes for M for 6-12 months. Just been sorting through them, as she said to get rid of anything I didn't want as she's done with babies (she has 3). So M now has a lovely summer wardrobe and the women's refuge will get some fab clothes too.

I feel so pleased I want to celebate with a huge drink - if only it weren't 4.15 and I weren#t on a diet!

kayzr · 28/01/2009 16:48

He just works in a factory. No one is taking on at the minute round here so he is going to the job centre on Monday.

He has qualifications in IT but I don't think he will be able to find a job doing that.

I have a lottery ticket[hopeful smiley]

Veggiemummy · 28/01/2009 17:07

Kayz they are so cute together. DS' have just been playing together under the play gym. Ds1 was showing ds2 the different hanging toys and singing to him, ds1 was giggling at him it was so lovely. It was so helpful because it gave me a chance to make some soup and bread for tea. I have been doing a lot better today more organized however yet again I completely forgot to eat again until 3pm. I don't seem to forget to have a coffee though. Oh and a tip for those trying to reduce caffeine intake my homeopath once suggested mixing a packed of decaff with a packet of normal coffee so it is then half strength.

Ds2 is so happy today he had an appointment with the cranial osteopath yesterday and it has made a real difference to his demeanor I think.

I'm at mums now as we were coming for dinner. I got myself a bottle of wine for tonight. My last treat for a very long time.

JollyBear · 28/01/2009 17:25

Hello all,

lal Your DH's comment about the spiderman outfit really made me laugh!

JJ I've done the same thing with the touchpad loads of times, it is so annoying! You may already know this but I discovered that you can stop it doing that by changing the touchpad settings. I was so happy when found that out! I wish I had known before - it would have saved me re-typing lots of emails and posts.

It is reassuring to hear that others have times of feeling utterly overwelmed. This thread does make me feel better . I hope you have better days tomorrow trace and sybil. kayz I'm so sorry about your DH's job. I hope something comes up for him soon.

I can't remember who went for their 6 week chap and got a GP in a bow tie, how very funny! I've got mine tomorrow. I'm so excited I can drive again, hurrah!

JamInMyWellies · 28/01/2009 17:43

Kayz so sorry.

Another one here with crappy work news DP was told he was at risk of redundancy today we will find out in 2wks really crap time to be in banking.

Kayz sorry to hear about your dhs job I guess at least with the IT experience will increase his options.

SummerLightning · 28/01/2009 18:49

kayz sorry to hear about your dh's job. Fingers crossed something turns up for him.

My first day while dh was working was fine yesterday. He was working from home though and he did keep popping out to give ds a cuddle but didn't help out so am hopeful we will be ok. The only bad thing is I went out to meet jj for lunch and he did a massive poo as iwas leaving the house. Had to quickly change all his clothes and clear up as it went everywhere but went out without noticing there was some on my sleeve! How scummy

And went to the baby cinema today which was great. I was a bit sleepy though so found it hard to follow the film.

Oh a question - how old is recommended to take them swimming at the beginning and where do you get swimming nappies from as dh is dying to take him.

kmp1 · 28/01/2009 18:55

kayz and jam so sorry to hear about your husbands jobs... makes u put things into perspective really... sleepless nights due to windy baby don't seem too bad hopefully it was for a reason and something else / better will come along.... kays, enjoy the wine

traceface · 28/01/2009 19:27

summer - I think they suggest that you wait until they've had their jabs before you take them swimming

Kayz - so sorry about DH's job

Can I ask...I expressed some milk earlier and put it in the fridge. I just looked at it and it seems to have bits in it! Is that normal? Or have I managed to contaminate it with dairy lea or something? I did sterilise everything!

Sorry to hear about your DH's job Kayz.

And I hope your DH keeps his Jam.

Trace - do the bits look like specks of cream? If so that is normal.

Summer - I started swimming with DD1 after her 8 week jabs. We did Little Dippers (underwater swimming) and it was great. I am going to do the same with DD2. You can get swim nappies from large branches of Boots and Mothercare.

Each night I put DD2 in her Phil and Teds cocoon at the other end of our living room. It is dark there and I feel better being close to her so we have not moved her upstairs yet (obviously we take her up when I go to bed). Anyway she was put down 45 mins ago and normally she goes to sleep after a few minutes, or she cries. Tonight she has just laid there quietly looking round for 45 mins. No complaining, but no sleeping. So odd.

kayzr · 28/01/2009 20:55

I am still feeling realtively calm about it all. I think that getting annoyed/upset about it will do no good and will change nothing. We will just have to claim all we can and cut back on Sky, treats(dvds etc) and takeaways(good for fat belly)

Jam I'll keep everything crossed for you.

Veggiemummy · 28/01/2009 21:21

They do say after jabs but just be careful about how much water they swallow. Generally they stick their Tongue out when underwater as they still have the reflex from in the womb. However they can accidently swallow too much water and it can give them an electrolyte imbalance because it basically dilutes their salts and sugars and this is very dangerous. Also the pool needs to be very warm. The optimal time to start is 4 months. Also it's best to go to the pool when it the least busy because the echoing noise can freak them out a bit.

Boys asleep and I've eaten hooray. DH home late to tomorrow evening hooray. Hoping to get myself sorted to go to postnatal pilates tomorrow morning.

Oh dear arm poo, that might be the nastiest bodily fluid/substance yet.
