Evening,

I've just found out a lady I know died Friday night. It was a heart attack and she was at the bingo when it happened. She was in her late 60's early 70's.

The permanent staff where DH works had a secret meeting today. DH is pretty worried as he is agency staff. He is worried they have been told the agency staff are being laid off. But I don't think they can do that, if they are going to lay off DH and the other agency staff surely they can't tell the permanent staff first.

Stupid recession!!

I am also not liking the new bedtime hour. I liked the old one as DS1 loves Charlie and Lola and In The Night Garden.

kayzr · 26/01/2009 18:31

I take it back 3rd and Bird is quite good on Cbeebies. It always makes me think of Veggie. There is a baby toucan called Jordan that sings a song called "Baby Jordan"

EffiePerine · 26/01/2009 18:43

Kayz: sorry to hear about your friend.

can I join the commune? DH is pretty good but he does the huffing thing too (as do I on occasion ) and there is a fair amount of swearing (him), sulking (me) and stropping (both of us) going on. I don't have Sybil's beautiful nature so pick fights a fair amount , especially when I'm tired. Daisy: hope you get an apology. If Mr Daisy is reading this: 2 lie-ins at the weekend, large box of chocs and flowers .

SybilFaulty · 26/01/2009 19:11

Kayz - I am very sorry to hear about your friend. It must be worrying to have the uncertainty about DH's job. Fingers crossed it's all ok.

WG - they said that if I didn't earn over £100K, didn't have rental income from a second home, didn't earn over £2500 in savings and didn't have any self employed income, then I was in the clear as HMRC didn't bother with small fry like me. Clearly once I'd stopped laughing at the prospect of huge incomes, second homes, etc I was mighty pleased.

Effie - it's the cheerfulness that does it. Honest.

Indith · 26/01/2009 19:18

Am not even going to pretend to have read anything but the last few posts.

sorry kayz

A commune? Is it one of those ones where we will live on an island (possibly remote scottish island but I'd prefer a slightly nicer climate) and raise sheep and pigs, milk our own cows by hand and send the children to collect eggs from the chickens each morning then gather our bountiful veg crops and set about preserving the excess for the winter? If so count me in. It shall of course be joyful work and there shall never be any mention of laundry or other such horrible tasks.

I love 3rd and bird

dd still very snotty, coughing too which obviously hurts, spending most awake time screaming, spending most of the hours between midnight and ds waking around 7 awake. Am struggling rather and more than a little wobbly. Dh is great and keeps getting up with dd at 6 to give me an hour of sleep in the morning before he has to go to work. Still just praying she settles once she kicks the cold. PLease let her kick it soon as it has been ages!

Veggiemummy · 26/01/2009 19:40

Hey all have only just read a little so bookmarking myself. Daisy I'm sorry but you H needs a good kicking in the nuts!!!

I'm also by myself today dh in Cardiff til Thursday night. So far soooooo exhausted was ontime for ds1 nursery but 10 mine late for pickup at midday. Why is it that these bubbies suddenly need a feed when we are about to leave the house/eat dinner/wee!! Also. Decided to walk everywhere no idea why I thought that was a good idea today. Dh has been ringing every 5 mins I think he is a little concerned about my sanity.

Rich better go we all had a bath and then ds2 and I got out and left ds1 in there. I am currently feeding him while ds1 stays in the bath he is having the longest bath of his life and is very happy about it cos he loves his bath. Better go get him out he'll be like a prune soon. Oh I think dh just called again but can't reach phone. God bless this itouch it's so mobile I don't think I could keep up without it. Right I may or maynot catch up more later I might just collapse.

EffiePerine · 26/01/2009 19:41

I was thinking of a commune within reach of a pizza delivery service

Hi, how are you all? We?ve had a lovely day ? I took DD to meet her great grannie for the first time, who was so excited about our visit and so happy to meet her, it was just lovely and she was so good. But the long journey and the meeting new people in new places has totally thrown her and she?s been in meltdown for 2 hours now I?ve pushed her round the kitchen in the pram for an hour and now DH has taken over, poor little thing, she?s so overtired now but still fighting sleep.

Cat I registered DD last week, and the thing that really threw me was that I didn?t have to prove who I was, who I was married to, that I even had a child and wasn?t making it all up. And then the birth certificate says on the bottom ?this is not proof of identity? It seems a very vague system

Trace my degree was in maths, so it must be something in the numbers thing. I think your DD1 is heading down that route and it?s definitely in her genes, that chart is so sweet!

Effie I love the pic of your DS stretching. And kimberlys photo of her and DS passed out is lovely. Daisy your DS looks so grown up, are you sure he?s a Dec 08 baby and not 07!

Kimberly your poor poor friend, I do hope things pick up for her.

Oli your spider party sounded fab, wish I?d been invited!

Daisy I am not impressed with your DH and hope you?ve received an apology by now, and got some rest as well. (Can you run off with that Dr? He sounds very nice )

Sybil I?ve put a thread out and flowerybeanbag responded with some good advice, I didn?t realise she was a HR consultant. I?m hoping that by moving the office another 30 odd miles from my home is a good business reason why they can?t refuse my request ? I?ve sent an email today, so got my fingers crossed.

Kayz it doesn?t sound fair to talk about one group of staff in a meeting where they are excluded, so hopefully it was about another matter and your DH is not involved.

Right, DD has finally quietened down (have offered her a dummy for the first time and she seems to like it, so it might be the way forward if she just wanted to suck on something) so will enjoy the peace for now. Hoping for good nights for all xx

traceface · 26/01/2009 20:16

Sybil - I already had some piles after my last pregnancy which was also c-section but this one had plenty of PUSHING so have multiplied my little bunch of grapes to form an entire vineyard! It's not actually too painful most of the time but I am struggling bowel wise (sorry if TMI - you did ask!) am doing the f + v and lactulose but am still passing what I can only describe as large rabbit droppings! Anusol does nothing! I think I'm not drinking enough - I get thirsty when I feed her but can never be bothered getting a drink. Must drink more! Am very nervous about seeing the GP on Fri. Like really nervous. really really.

oooh crying baby... back soon

traceface · 26/01/2009 20:32

ok I let her off for crying - I'd cry too if I were lying face down in a pool of my own vomit!

Cat - yes we have virtually continual farmyard noises here! Squeaks, grunts, little snorts...DH barely slept when she was in our room because she makes such a racket!

Kayz - you seem to have lots on your plate - thinking of you. Hope you can get some rest and that things work our ok for DH

Indith - so sorry you're wobbly. Hope your LO gets better soon. It's tough this motherhood lark - but it seems from this thread that the good and the bad come in fits and starts...really hope things pick up for you soon and that you get a much needed good spell very soon

kayzr · 26/01/2009 20:33

They were told their jobs were safe until April but with Honda closing for 4 months instead of 2, who knows.

Verso · 26/01/2009 20:47

Pants day today . DD2 feedingandfeedingandfeeding and not napping for more than ten minutes at a time (honestly), waking up and SCREAMING. I am exhausted. I think she may be rebuilding my milk supply after not feeding well whilst poorly - but whatever it is I hope it stops soon. She finally went down at 8:10...

(Sorry I haven't read the rest of the thread.)

kayzr · 26/01/2009 20:48

I've decided that you shouldn't BF because it is good for your baby. You should BF so when your baby wants feeding while you are eating Mint Choc Chip ice cream you can feed and eat.

traceface · 26/01/2009 21:27

oh verso hope she gives you a good night [fingers crossed emoticon]. Phoebe is not settling tonight - lots of little pukes and farts are keeping her awake! Am bracing myself for a busy night! Will be thinking of you xxx

kayzr · 26/01/2009 21:30

Sorry x-posted Verso I hope you get some sleep tonight.

Veggiemummy · 26/01/2009 21:59

Effie I make great pizza can we grow wheat and cultivate yeast at this commune.

Speaking of puke I forgot to tell you all the other night I had just fed ds2 and put him in bed next to me. He quite likes laying half of his body on my pillow facing me. I was in a nice deepish sleep when I was rudely awoken by ds2 projectile vomiting into my eye!!!

Well I thought I was doing well looking after the 2 of them on my own getting them to where they needed to be pretty much on time until 2pm when I realized I hadn't eaten anything. Luckily I has left over curry from lastnight so have just eaten that.

Ds1 was such a little star today he was so helpful with getting ready and helping with jordy I don't think I could have done it without him. I don't know how you girls with younger kids do it.

I'm astounded how interested I am in the bedtime hour talk. I didn't know Chris and Pui were gone. And Charlie and Lola?! We have been watching iplayer repeats of postman pat lately so right out of the loop. I didn't know 3rd & bird had a Jordan in it I should let ds1 watch it. I personally can't stand anything which is all singing, I can't stand musicals. Opera is different. That was so sweet Kayz you thought of us with that.

Daisy reading about you crying at the surgery made me a bit sniffly, I am back to being emotional again lately I think it is ds2s growth spurt.

Oh and before dh left as a little goodbye gift I...erm...did it...with him. It was the first time since the birth. Has anyone else done it and...erm...noticed any difference? It is still good very good but it well it felt a bit...numb-ish. Last time I didn't partake of the fruits of love until much later so maybe that is why it feels different this time.

LadyThompson · 26/01/2009 23:17

Hello girls

I am a bit behind and have only been able to skim - a London weekend at the weekend, busy day today, Mum's in the Midlands tomorrow, Cornwall for funeral of DP's friend from Thursday then having to leg it back to London on Saturday night for a recording of one of my client's shows. Anyway, DaisyDora, your DH needs a kick in the pants - that much I DID take in. I am sure it's nothing other than he is overtired like all the rest of us, but it is NO excuse - the brunt of it is on you. Hope you can talk about it, and that he says sorry.

Oh - and Kayz - I really hope your DH's job is safe.

Indith, I do so like the idea of the commune, in theory. But in practice, I fear I would be the weakest link. Not sure I would excel at milking. In fact, I am struggling to think of a role in which I could truly shine, on a remote Scottish island, even though I like fresh air and animals. Answers on a postcard...

Maybe I can brush the sheep.

Arti, I MISSED YOU at the party. I kept looking for someone Arti-like. I did find someone who was 3 months pregnant though, to talk babies with. In fact, you probably know her! She is gingery of hair and she works in the Press Office of a large television network I left at 11.15 anyway - the lure of a night's sleep, undisturbed, in my London flat was just too great... So not very rock 'n' roll.

I am so disappointed to miss the meet up on Thursday Please have tons of fun. I won't be posting until next Sunday or Monday, but I will be keeping up on my phone. Gloves up, girls.

LadyThompson · 26/01/2009 23:20

Oh, and I do think we should have a different thread for the fatties people who are doing the weight loss thing. Why do I have more weight to lose than almost all of you? Oh yes. Now I remember.

kayzr · 27/01/2009 07:40

Morning.

DS1 slept all night. It was lovely. DS2 only woke once so a pretty good night. It is amazing how just getting a good stretch of unbroken sleep can make you feelmuch better.

LadyT I probably have more weight to lose than you. I probably have the most to lose out of everyone. I have 5 stone to lose I am going to start cycling again and go mountain biking.

Hope you all have had good nights.

Verso · 27/01/2009 08:11

Well, DD2 only woke twice last night, so after a dreadful day I feel a bit better. She took a while to settle each time so I've only had about five hours' sleep, but it's better than nothing. She is currently swaddled in the bouncy chair, sucking a dummy and listening to white noise. Why didn't I remember Harvey Karp yesterday?! Doh!

Is a big day for us today as I'm getting her weighed this morning for the first time in three weeks... >drum roll

SummerLightning · 27/01/2009 08:25

verso glad you had a better night

I am another of the lucky people that has had DH around for a long time to help out. He is self employed so has taken a few weeks off. And he has been absolutely great so going to be interesting to see how I manage without him. Today he is "working" but from home and also on Thursday but next week he is doing a contract out of the house. Glad to hear all you others are surviving!

LadyT yes I think we need a new thread for the weight loss thing. I will start one. Maybe we need to keep a spreadsheet as well or sometime and a mailing list? Or is this over kill. I can do that if you like? I have a maths degree too zj so have been known to be fond of my spreadsheets! Thouhg it has been my organised DH that has been keeping diagrams and charts of when DS sleeps and feeds. I am too lazy! And we haven't done anything with them yet.

Anyway off to start that thread now.

SummerLightning · 27/01/2009 08:31

here it is.

jumpjockey · 27/01/2009 09:31

morning all

if you were one of those really expensive digital ear thermometers, where would you be hiding? dd has her first set of vaccinations this afternoon so we need to keep an eye on her overnight but the bloody thing's disappeared. Our house has never been tidy at the best of times bit now there's so much more stuff and so many more piles for things to get lost under...

veggie mmmm projectile vomiting... lucky you hope it's nothing serious

am v of those of you who've had success with dummies, dd loves to suck on my finger but we've tried 4v different shapes of dummy and she hates them all am seriously pondering an amputation, i don't play piano so don't really need it and life would be much easier in terms of helping her settle when she needs to sleep. she's still a bit of a tyrant at night, woke for her midnight-on-th-dot feed and just wouldn't settle so i ended up taking her to the spare room and kipping on the sofa bed with her - dh slept through the whole thing including her kicking and yelling

still we had a bit of a coup yesterday, big yelling attack in the afternoon so chucked her in the bee and went marching off down the road for about half an hour, she dropped off in about 3 minutes! woke up whenever i stopped walking, but i've never been so glad that the pavements round here are so crappy!

jumpjockey · 27/01/2009 09:33

oh and did anyone see this news story?

EIGHT babies
