Morning,

Kim I am really sorry for your friend. I hope she gets better soon.

Daisy Sorry you had a bad night. Also sorry your DH is such a pain. Why do men do that? I'm sure he didn't moan when he helped you to concieve.

DS1 was in and out of bed again last night. I think the novelty has worn off. But he didi end up falling back to sleep in his bed. We just ignored him and let him cry it out.

Olipop · 26/01/2009 08:51

Oh Daisy - that is crap. I second Summer in that I would expect a big apology. I know things get said in the heat of the night when everyone is fraught but in the cold light of day I hope he realises his mortal error. xx

Have managed to tidy some of the 'spidercrap' up but still a long way to go. Feel like I am just shuffling stuff from room to room!

HaggisGaloreInMyWellies · 26/01/2009 09:12

Daisy poor you Bloody men I swear theyu havnt got a clue. I hope put DD infront of the telly today and try to have a wee rest.

We too have had a shocker of 24hrs. DS2 is refusing to sleep anywhere but on me he has slept for 4hours out of the last 24. [shock. Also Dp is a complete numpty pulling hte duvet over his head and muttering about sleeping plus producing sorry TMI the most revolting fdarts all night long. DS1 has also been uo in the night I think he has an UTI and also his eye is glued together this morning so off to the docs for us and no toddler yoga. I am slowly going insane.
Who was it who mentioned a commune of females when you have a baby, I am chucking DP out you are all welcome at mine we can do a rota for sleeping eating and feeding it must involve chick flicks and chocolate and the odd glass of vino.

Off to catch up properly now. Sorry for the me whinge.

artichokes · 26/01/2009 09:40

Morning

Sorry to hear that Ollie, Kayz and Daisy have had such bad nights. DD2 has gone from waking once between 10 and 7 to waking twice . The problem is she wakes for the second time between 5 and 6 and then struggles to settle as she always seems to get farts at that stage. It is very annoying as it means I rarely get back to sleep before dd1 wakes.

Kim - so sorry to hear about your friend .

Well today is my first day alone with both DDs. I have been incredibly lucky that DH could take his paternity leave after his christmas leave and that has meant 5 weeks of help. But now he is back at work and his hours are long.

I am a bit terrified today although so far both DDs are being very good. I think dd2 is going to be a bit shocked at how muchh less she gets held but I have borrowed a bouncy chair for each room to make sure she has comforting places to watch me from. I have an hour to get them both dressed and out of the house for DD1's music group... glad I am using that time wisely then.

rosmerta · 26/01/2009 09:46

Morning everyone

lal how did your party go? Very impressed you made the cake, I wimped out & bought one this year!

zj have my fingers crossed for your flexible working! Btw, I do wake up ds2 from his naps, he doesn't have more than 3hrs or go more than 30mins past a feed. If I wake him up he'll stay awake generally but if he does drift off I leave him in his chair. The day will come when we wished they were back to this point & sleep whenever!

veggie hope your boobs are better and unblocked

wg glad you've turned the corner! We also started putting ds2 down awake and it has made a difference! Whoops, just seen your later post, sorry it didn't last

jump very exciting about your conference invite, shame you can't make it. Especially NY, I love NY!

trace funny you mentioned about the chart for dd1, I was going to do one for ds1 as he asks every morning what today is! Plus I think it will help with doing things like getting dressed etc. (hopeful face!)

effie love the photos, he's gorgeous (both your boys are) and very photogenic! If you want to see a non-photogenic baby, see my photos!!

kimberley lovely photos. Am so sorry to hear about your friend, such hard decisions for them to make

oli wow at ds1's party! Puts my Lightnening McQueen pinata to shame!

daisy am at your dh on your behalf. It really winds me up when people think that just because you're looking after children it means you don't do anything. I think you should go off for the day & leave him to it at the weekend, see how easy he finds it then!

Ds1 has had a busy weekend with his party & then over to nan & grandad's yesterday. We took him & his cousins to the Natural History Museum at Tring, you haven't lived until you've seen dressed fleas . I can't believe he's 3yrs old now!

daisydora · 26/01/2009 09:54

I'm back...I agree DH owes me huge apology. I suspect he will call at some point.

Went to Dr's earlier with DS as he had massive coughing fit and appear to cough up funny yellow mucus, and his poos are a bit green. Got to see the very tasty looking new GP, which wasn't good as I was barely dressed! Told Dr I was probably being a bit neurotic as I hadn't slept and DS seems so helpless. He said I was right to bring DS in, and said his chest/lungs are clear and that it was just a bad cold. Unfortunately I started crying (just a bit). I apologised and said it was because I was soooo tired - he was so nice and asked me if I was feeling this 'low' often....I told him I would be okay after some sleep and that I was fine normally and was not PND. BUt bless him for being such a nice Dr.

Ollie & kayz here's hoping things get better and we get some more sleep

arti good luck today with DD's I'm sure you'll do a fantastic job! I'm off to root out baby carrier, so DS can be upright more and I can still hopeully play with DD and get some stuff done.

traceface · 26/01/2009 10:02

Kim - very sorry about your poor friend. Thinking of you all.

Daisy - so sorry about your seemingly useless and unsupportive and not so 'D' H. With the cold/ cough thing have you tried putting Olbas oil/ Karvol on a wet hankie and putting it on the radiator overnight? (I guess I should ask if you've got radiators first?!) If you're worried about breathing then I'd get to the GP - a cold can be very nasty for a little one and a GP never minds checking out a LO in my experience.

Haggis - where do you live - I'm on the way to your commune!
Re - sticky eye - I was advised to put breast milk on cotton wool and use that to clean it - lots of antibodies, and it's sterile! Well actually I think I was advised that - I did it myself last night for Phoebe's gunky eye, then suddenly thought "what if I dreamt that?!"!! My brain is not too sure what's real and what I've made up or dreamt at the moment!

hey arti - i did the dream feed thing at 10.30, she slept till 2.30, fed, did a projectile vomit which involved changing my pyjamas and the bedding in our room, then slept till 6am! Think I'll try that again tonight! (although preferably without the large puke!). Unfortunately dd1 woke at 4 with her flippin cough!

I made a lazy mistake this morning - after her feed dd2 was wide awake (6ish) so I just stayed upstairs and played with her. I didn't want to go downstairs because dd1's room is downstairs and I didn't want to wake her. I decided to change dd2's nappy on the bed, rather than go all the way down the stairs for the changing mat...you see where this is leading...large piddle all over duvet in her room (spare bed in there) - thus this morning I have 2 extra sets of bedding to wash! Should have heeded the old proverb "better to get your lazy arse downstairs for the changing mat than try to do it on a duvet and end up with wee everywhere"

have done 12 more mins on Wii fit this morning so I'd better get myself a cake!

traceface · 26/01/2009 10:11

daisy - cross posts sorry! glad you've seen your GP and hope he gets better soon. Lucky you having a dishy GP!

lal - I'm very impressed at you making a "this is actually my party" monster cake! hope it all went well!

daisydora · 26/01/2009 10:13

trace will tey the hanky/karvol/radiator thing thanks.

Have finally uploaded a pic of DS - he looks enormous!!

traceface · 26/01/2009 10:19

wow daisy he's adorable and massive!!! bless

Verso · 26/01/2009 11:02

Daisy you have my sympathy. DD2 had a terrible cold the week before last, wouldn't lie flat, green poos etc, and is only really starting to shift it now. My (D)H was similar so I am very on your behalf. I hope you get a big apology! FWIW we've had some stonking rows recently but I think ironically it's bringing us closer...If it makes you feel any better, your children are GORGEOUS!! You should be very proud.

Am v of those of you with DC's who only wake once between 10pm and 7am. I feel I've had a good night if I get 11pm, 2am, 5am. (Infinitely better and more manageable than DD1 used to be.) Last night was 11pm, 2am, 3am, 4am and 5am. DD2 is getting over an allergy to our washing powder on top of the cold so is quite restless still. We usually get a particular brand of powder but a couple of weeks ago I got what I thought was the same thing, but it turns out the 'sensitive' version has given me and my two DD's eczema! No wonder she's been unsettled .

So I've been very busy re-doing ALL the past two week's laundry! Grrrrrrr. Our electricity bill will be huge as I've had the tumble drier going non-stop for the past couple of days just to get through it.

hattyyellow · 26/01/2009 11:27

ooh i would like a one waking dd as well please!

i feel bad this week, i do enjoy feeding a lot of the time but recently i've just got really sick of it, dd still feeds for at least 45 mn to 1 hr at a time, if i rake her off she fusses and roots and i assume she is still hungry, i'd just like a bit of a break easpecilly as my other dd's need me too..am starting to resent the breastfeeding and feel really bad about it all..

and can i join the commune please? have had enough of dh whinging about doing the late feed when he's doing it earlier and earlier and gets to sleep 11-7 every night..

and while i'm ranting..has anyone elses other dc's just been going down with every bug around? after they were off for weeks at xmas with c pox and flu, i enjoyed one week of them being back at nursery since mid december and now they are off again with ear infections and hacking coughs..i could scream!!!!

am starting to long for some kind of rough routine..am holding out for 6 weeks as thats when dd's started to fall roughly into a pattern so only 10 days to go...

please tell me i'm not imagining the 6 weeks gets a little easier milestone? i am soooo tired!

rihgt will now go and read everyones news! arti good luck today on your first solo day..

waitinggirl · 26/01/2009 12:46

arti, me, too re: coming to the end of dh being a home. had to practically shove dh out of the door to go to do some work - nthink he is worried about how i'll cope. hmm, me too, but he's got to go and earn us some money. also, if he doesn't go, we won't kno90w how i'll cope.

artichokes · 26/01/2009 12:57

I remembered you were in the same boat today WG. How is it going so far? I made it to music group and am now home and have fed and made cookies with DD1 while DD2 napped. I am now doing an Ocado shop while the cookies bake. Am feeling like a right Stepford wife (even though it was ready made cookie dough). So far so good, although I am exhausted!

Trace - great news about the dream feed.

Hatty - poor you with all the infections and bugs. I would feel like screaming too. DD has had a few colds and fevers and it is so hard to give her the care and smypathy she needs when we are exhasuted with DD2.

Effie and Daisy - your DSs are adorable. Both very photogenic.

Inspired by others I have put a photo of my DDs on my profile . I hope it worked.

traceface · 26/01/2009 13:05

arti they're so cute and have very gorgeous dark eyes

you sound like you're having a very productive day! Pease can you save me a cookie?!!

jumpjockey · 26/01/2009 13:56

hello all, I'm really crap at keeping up with everyone but just to say trace, breast milk is absolutely a miracle, dd had a gunky eye in week 2 and I would drip a bit on direct from the dispenser at each feed and just let it sit there, it was cleared up in a few days. Though she did give me a weird look each time as this massive boob lurched into view. She must have thought "hang on, I'm new to all this but I'm pretty sure I eat through my mouth"

SybilFaulty · 26/01/2009 14:44

Hello lovely ladies.. so much to catch up on as usual! Hope everyone is well.

Cat, so sorry things are so tough at the moment. You have my sympathies - when DD1 is hard work, I really struggle and with no sleep as well it is a real killer. How is today going?

Trace, big sympathy on the piles, a fellow sufferer here too. I am treating mine with tons of f and V, gallons of water (as I find BF so terribly dehydrating) and lactulose. This means going to the loo is very easy and doesn't hurt too much. I have had piles after each pg (a bit odd as not during pg and I have never pushed a baby out so I don't know where they are from) and they are AGONY. With my middle child, they flared up in Italy and I spent a very amusing afternoon using my rudimentary italian to pop to about 8 different chemists to try to get something to help. A lot of miming (me), laughing (them) and looking hideously embarrassed(DH). I discovered in chemist #8 that the word is the same in italian pretty much and after that I was on a roll. How are they now?

Effie and Daisy, what lovely photos of 2 very handsome young men.

Daisy and Verso, I am with you on the husband point. Mine is not being too annoying at th emoment but we have had times when I could quite cheerfully have whacked him, so useless is he. He grunts and moans a lot if I ask him to sort out one of the girls in the night as I am feeding, but I can hardly go and soothe one child with another latched on. If he has the audacity to moan that he's tired, I remind him how much I have bee up in the night with M, compared to his 5 min trip to see one of the girls. He also expects a standing ovation if he hangs a wash out or something equally major. I try not to pick a fight but it's jolly hard not to at times.

hang on a sec...back in a mo.

SybilFaulty · 26/01/2009 15:00

Sorry about that just had to pop M on boob and did not want to lose my post in transit.

Arti and WG, good luck and god speed on flying solo. It is very daunting isn't it, but I just tell myself that if I get through the day with everyone alive, fed, clean and happy I've done my job. Anything else is a bonus. I found it quite easy to get into a groove with the 3 of them, and although it isn't a routine, it is some sort of organised chaos. Hope it's going OK for you. Reward yourself with a glass of cheerfulness when it's 6pm.

Hatty I am with you on the bugs etc. My DDs were constantly ill before christmas and I lived in fear of the nursery calling to say one of them had to be picked up early etc. My DD1 is nearly 4 and has been known to ham it up for attention, which makes it doubly irritating. I usually have to do the biscuit test to see if she's shamming. I also quite fancy the commune. Other women seem to have an instinctive understanding of the needs and emotions of other post natal women which men just don't get. Just give me the address and I'll be there.

Zoe, you have the right to request flexible working but your employer is not obliged to agree to it. THey do have to give you a business reason why not though, so it might be worth tailoring that into your application. I think flowerybeanbag is an HR consultant so it might e worth putting out a thyread for her to help you. Good luck !

oli and Ros, happy birthday to your DSs. The parties sound great.

Kim I am so sorry about your friend, what sad news. Hope you are OK.

Weight loss - I went to Fatties' Club today and have lost 4.5lbs. Hurray! Has anyone else done a weigh in? And do you think we should have a separate thread so that those of us who are porkers don't drive the rest of you insane with our stories of cake and scales?

Other than that, today has been jobs - tax return, primary school app, few calls etc. ABout to go and put 2 mountains of laundry away. I'm so sorry I won't be able to join you on Thurs but I can't face town with 3 of them in tow and anyway DD1 has pre school on Thurs am so I need to collect her. Hope to join you at the next one.

Love to all.

waitinggirl · 26/01/2009 16:31

arti, sybil am shamed by you both. have done 2 loads of washing and that is about it. tax still to do... deadloine looming. how do i type with baby on boob???

SybilFaulty · 26/01/2009 16:48

2 loads of washing is 2 more than I've done! I have lots of house jobs, unmade shepherd's pies, untidied toys and unsorted charity bags to do as well. Give yourself a few days and it will be much easier as you will be used to it

Tax - a nightmare. I am a last minute merchant and logged on today to get it set up. Happily I couldn't find the unique code and on ringing the tax office, I had a brucie bonus from HMRC telling me that as I don't earn more than £100,000 (I wish), have rental income or HUGE savings income, I don't need to do it. I celebrated this fact by spending my tax return admin time on ebay rather than on laundry. Oh dear.

Off to get girls, then time to check out the new bedtime hour people

rosmerta · 26/01/2009 16:57

I'm doing laundry every day atm, I can't wait for spring so I can put the washing outside. Now where's the sad & pathetic emoticon?

rosmerta · 26/01/2009 16:59

Sybil, meant to say, saw the new people earlier, they're not Chris & Pui but better than Miss Screechy!

daisydora · 26/01/2009 17:33

Have Chris & Pui gone for good then now? DD and I not overly impressed with newbies...OMG hope DS is better soon, I need to get away from bloody CBeebies

rosmerta · 26/01/2009 17:37

Daisy, Cbeebies has been my lifesaver the last few weeks . I think Chris & Pui are doing a programme of their own. They'll probably be like Justin & appear in pretty much everything!

waitinggirl · 26/01/2009 17:41

sybil - what what what??? i am in the sme boat as you - why do you notneed to do tax??? pls tell in case you save me a wholelot of headache...
