re: BLW I factor in at least 30 minutes for A to eat (aka play) as he has a stop/start method. His favourite food is rice cakes tho, strange child.

The 1975 household has been in a bad way today, both DH and I ate something that disagreed with us last night and so have been taking turns in the bathroom (TMI) and A has this horrible hacking cough. Luckily we have very good gp support and Granny come round today to look after A whilst we slept!

Mccheesers - ohh good luck. Must be nice to know you will be nearer family.

cass66 - I'm going back in 2 weeks as well - where has the last 6 months gone! A was suppose to go to nursery Friday and today for settling in but hasn't because of illness!

disneystar · 19/01/2009 19:27

m2l i dont want to mislead you with sams blw when i said it goes in one end and out the other
ive had evidence some food is going down but tbh i think very little is being digested
hes basically having more fun than anything else
plus making a whole heap of mess
no solid poos here yet though

sweetkitty · 19/01/2009 20:51

disney - have you switched to BLWing from purees then, I remember you saying Sam was doing great on food and less so on milk or am I getting confused??? I know what you mean about being the odd one out, hardly anyone I know BFs or waits until 6 months to wean up here, it's like a competition to see who can get their baby on solids the quickest like it makes their babies more advanced or something. Don't even start me on the looks I get if I have the sling on.

libra1975 - hope you are all feeling at bit better thats rough

M2L - sometimes when they are constipated their poo gets a bit more solid because it's been up there a while sorry TMI, when DD2 had her episode what came out was rock hard and there was loads of it, I think it can get stuck IYSWIM, Isaidno is spot on as usual it's all about playing at this stage. They also tend to gag a lot at the start, don't be alarmed and start thumpng her back just watch her for a minute she will probably move it forward again, it's all part of the learning curve.

pigley - toast always seems to be the universal favourite, my two fussy madams still love toast

cass - oh I forgot yours are older the drawbacks of having them close together, I wish we had a nice GP who would looks after B for an hour so we could take the older 2 swimming.

mcchesers - I am so about you leaving we never got to meet up am happy for you though I know it's what you wanted, remember it's stressful now but will be worth it in the long run. and dare I say it you are getting away from the MIL (how is she taking it btw?)

B had some homemade potato and leek puree which she loved tonight with some carrot batons which she loved chomping on although she kept throwing them overboard cue a big cry, I can see her eating bits of carrot and saw the evidence this morning from yesterdays efforts. Lunch was toast and banana which I hold in front of her and she demolishes it with her 2 teeth Haven't tried her with a sippy cut yet think I will wait until 7 months.

TJuice · 19/01/2009 20:56

well, i did my own puree of potato, spinach and cheese and that went down well, with a piece of toast on the side and banana pudding. she takes such a long time to eat though.

at the moment, it just feels like i am fixing her food non-stop.

JODIEhadtoomanymincepies · 19/01/2009 20:58

Hi all. Just a quicky, am absolutely (sp?) exhausted! Yesterday was a great success (photos on FB) but I got very very drunk and today has been a long one!

I just wanted to say

SAM HAS A THIRD TOOTH!

I can't quite believe it and it was unexpected! The cheeky mite!

sweetkitty · 19/01/2009 21:01

Jodie - had a nosy at your pics your boys are very handsome and you looked lovely too

Tjuice - we all sit round the table so I eat my dinner inbetween feeding and keeping an eye on B, the other two aren't the fastest eaters and are always messing about so they have dinner then a yoghurt, I clear away and poor B is still chomping on her carrots bless her

disneystar · 19/01/2009 22:11

sweetkitty yes i was on purees for samuel as he has his cleft palate and he does eat well

but i did blw for all of 6 of them and i have tried samuel and he seems fine a bit of gagging but nothing out of the ordinary

hes loving it now and so am i

bit healthier at baby group today cheese chunks and skips.....

hes been having therapy on his back and neck muscles and can now sit in his bumbo for 2 whole minutes without flopping over,
which is big improvement,i still have to hold my hand at the back of his head as he fall backwards but it shows with perseverance he will be able to go forward

jodie im glad it went well ihad a look at your pics and they look great and your boys are very handsome lil guys arnt they
a third tooth and you didnt know...lucky you sams on his 3rd tooth its nearly through and boy dont i know about it

mcchesers honey awwww im like sk sad im not going to meet you but very happy for ya girl going back home and also to be near your folks
im going back in 19 weeks and counting down to combine trip to disneyworld and good ol georgia....were flying with virgin atlantic and ive looked at my booking online and it says only 3 of us going NOT 6 all ive done is phone to try to rectify and theyve still not put it right
getting a bit worried now as we have a bassinett booked and i want and are having them near me.
youd think we would get better service seeing as im a gold club flyer

Greatsweetkittyothepuddingrace · 19/01/2009 22:23

it's me with my new Burns' Night name

disney - oh I see, Sam sounds like he is doing just fine may take him a bit longer but he will get there, sounds like such a determined little man, a true fighter

disneystar · 19/01/2009 22:48

sk am loving the new name

yes he is a true fighter i cant say how proud i am of him and so much admiration i sometimes think its him that keeps me going lol iyswim
i must admit i feel very sick of what hes going to have done and part of wants to run away with him and hide
we have his cat scan in march to see how long he has got,i know without the op he will die ,im supposed to go to therapy sessions for talking about terminal illness stuff but when i go there i smile and people say wow dont you cope well
well i dont not really but who wants to break down on front of a bunch of strangers
at least when i vent on here and cry you guys cant see
my dh asks me why i wont claim DLA under the special rules simple if i dont accept it its not happening
writing this its sound silly i guess i do accept it
only cos i have no choice
if i could trade with him my life for his id do it.
when he was born and they told us i wanted him to see xmas and its been and gone
then i so want him to see spring and flowers grow and leaves on trees and have a birthday party
but its all going to quick too fast
anyone got a stop time clock i can borrow

disneystar · 19/01/2009 22:59

sorry guys

i guess i get more sad at night when hes lying next to me looking pefect and smells so lovely
im also tired well over tired house is quiet kids asleep my mind is resting so it turns to worry
in the day ive so much to do no time to think i bet you guys are the same
if anyone is feeling depressed do not read my posts.... i even feel bad expressing myself on here

Greatsweetkittyothepuddingrace · 19/01/2009 23:17

disney - never apologise for how you feel, if it helps to write stuff on here then you should, hopefully you will find some comfort and support here, we're here for the good times and the not so good.

I cannot even imagine what you are going through you and Sam are so brave.

Off to be now night night all x

mama2leah · 20/01/2009 09:49

im tinkin constipation too, also she did have alot of cumcumber..hmm..i guess wil remian a mystery, it was soft but formed..hmm!

disney (hugs)

TJuice · 20/01/2009 10:00

disney - it must be exhausting keeping it all together. i do really admire you. you must need an outlet of some sort to let out some feelings and if you can do it just a little bit on here, then we are all here to support you. we've been through the whole journey with you so far, since the beginning of your pregnancy.

i wish i could just cuddle sam and ruffle that mane of hair!

are you actually from the US originally?

well, i really should get out today, its beautiful. i have a mum "frenemy" who I could meet but we just wind each other up!

i am having serious cash flow issues too. have done lots of freelancing recently to supplement my state maternity pay but can't invoice for it as its all in the layout/proofing stage. God, I hate January. Well, at least we get child support money this week. Do you get that in the UK too - its 100 pounds a month here, for first child, then about 50 for each after that.

SK - i eat my porridge with E in the morning but 11.45 is too early for my lunch and so is 5 for dinner. What time do you eat in the evening? If you have an early dinner with kids, do you then get peckish again around 10 or 11?

Greatsweetkittyothepuddingrace · 20/01/2009 12:02

Tjuice - we get Child Benefit here, £20 for first born about £11 after that, i know I get about £185 every 4 weeks for all three, I don't think DP knows about it or he doesn't remember I get it all the time, it's my little fund although as usual most goes on the girls.

I have a slice of toast in the morning, today had a cake at toddlers, lunch is about 12.30-1, I eat with the girls at 5ish, once they are all in bed at 8 we have a cup of tea and crack open the chocolate (used to be wine but not anymore), if I am v peckish at night I sometimes have some cereal. Since having the DDs food is more of a necessity IYSWIM, I eat when I feel hungry, I used to work in the food industry and would eat samples all day long, think thats why I got overweight before.

Isaidno · 20/01/2009 12:42

I eat at 730am, 1230ish and about 5pm. I think it's better to eat as a family. If I'm still up at 10pm I have supper, usually cereal. I also eat a few biccies!

Hey disney, we don't mind you talking honestly, better out than in.

OP posts:
bebejones · 20/01/2009 13:38

hi all! apologies in advance for the crap typing...p is sat on my lap & need one hand to hold her! she is supposed to be napping but was screaming blue murder so had to go get her! had a bad night with her for the first time since she was 3 weeks old! dont know why but she is now really tired but very unsettled and sensitive. i have a cold, but coughing really upsets her and she screams until she looks like a beetroot and can barely breathe doing big gulping breaths!

Weaning going much better, am afraid I dont have the nerves of steel required for blw, so am sort of combining it with puree. P loves apple, yesterday she had banana &apricot, today I think shall be carrot. I have a freezer full of various cubes and so far so good, she doesnt take alot but is getting much better at accepting the spoon & loves having a spoon to bang on the tray!

Arm still rubbish(ish) but improving slowly day by day!

Ordered an aqua pod from mothercare today, am very excited as P loves bathtime but it is difficult for me to do it on my own. We have only ever used the baby bath twice...what a waste of money! What have you guys found was the most pointless baby purchase?

pigleychez · 20/01/2009 14:16

Bebe- With you on the baby bath. We never bought one and Abigail has been in the big bath since the word go. She had a little support thing she laid in and often i got in with her but now she just sits up on her own. She loves the bath and splashes like crazy and loves her rubber ducks!

Glad the arms improving albiet slowly!

Disney - We love hearing from you and are with you all the way! [hugs!]

BLW- Abigail tried Banana today but flung it about so much that the banana flew out the skin and across the room! Did get some in then gagged and was little sick, but enjoyed sucking on the skin!
Breaksticks seem to be a hit too.

Had a good night last night.. Abigail had bath, bottle then bed at 8.30, woke about 12 for a feed then that was it till 7am. Brilliant! but why do I still feel so tired!!

Abigail is amazing me with her standing! She standing holding your fingers for balance but her latest trick is to let go of one finger and stand for a few mins only holding on to my finger with one hand. Her legs are so strong! My friend reckons she going to be a dancer when shes older!

disneystar · 20/01/2009 20:31

well what a very busy day here
isaidno your PO is in the post it went tonight
i just havnt stopped i took the boys to school im so tired i just coudnt sleep last night, hence my post
got home gave sam his breakfast the phone rang my 8yr old had an accident cuttin his knee could i get him
ok not too bad when i got there he was a white as a sheet and had fainted prob with shock
he had a 1 and a half gash deep in his knee so bad the bone was poking through it was bleeding heavily,
took his to hospital we were there 4 hours samuel hungry smelly moaning, and shouting,
my poor lil man had 3 injections in his open cut boy did he cry he never cries and was cuddling me asking them to stop
had loads of stitches in there,i felt so sorry for him.
apparantly he tripped and his knee went on the edge of a sharp shaped paving stone...ouch
pigley i remember you saying abigail had found her voice a while back
samuel did today he shouts with all his energy and might till he goes red in face, just for fun he actually gives me a headache
TJ i laughed at your running your hand through his mane of hair
and yes you have been with me since the beginning, and for that i thank you all x
no i wasnt born in the US but raised there its a long story i was abandoned as a baby so i was told, but America is my home i have dual nationality

ponto · 20/01/2009 22:02

Disney, sounds like you had a rubbish day, hope you can get some rest tonight. Hope your ds feels better now.

We have no hot water here as of last night - the water heater is separate from the central heating boiler, in a cupboard in Bryony's bedroom, and last night when she woke at 11 I could smell gas! So we called the gas board who came round at midnight, confirmed it was leaking and turned it all off. An engineer came to try to fix it today but it's beyond repair - he quoted £2400 for a whole new system . Fortunately we have an electric shower so I was able to fill Bryony's baby bath from that tonight. I still use it most nights - it's much quicker to fill than the big bath and saves water. She is a bit big for it now though.

I've been using the cotton nappies again the last two days, but have put her to bed tonight in a disposable as the skin round the outside of her thighs is red and raised. It looks like an allergic reaction, but I can't think what to. So it looks like I'm going to have to abandon real nappies once and for all, which is a shame as I used them really successfully with the older girls

MinnieMummy · 20/01/2009 22:08

Ouch Disney your poor little lad! I would have been crying if that were me.

I too say carry on being as honest as you usually are - remember when you didn't post here for a few days we all missed you!
I personally don't find what you write depressing, but amazing that you just get one with it each and every day. It sounds like Samuel has been proving the doctors wrong at every turn so who knows what will happen at his CAT scan? I did briefly think about checking the post-natal group for August since Poppy was born right at the end of July, but it wouldn't seem right, we've been through this together for so long, all of us, good times and bad... long may it continue.

P has slept through her previously set-your-alarm-by-it 2.30am feed for the last three nights... it's like a revolution!! I know I'm not following BLW exactly but I neeeeed my sleep.

Most pointless baby items here - top and tail bowl (only useful for storing cotton wool balls in the first month) and IME swaddle blankets (very wriggly babies here!). Not massively expensive items but just adding to the general amount of baby crapstuff. We don't use our baby bath any more because she just goes in with DS but we did use it a lot with him... useful when our garage roof started leaking though!!

Greatsweetkittyothepuddingrace · 20/01/2009 22:17

Re useless baby things, I never got as far as the wipe warmer but DD1 had an antique swinging crib, complete with Winnie the Poo drapes, quilt (newborns can't have quilts anyway whats that about?) and bumpers, all matching with the bouncy chair, changing mat and changing mat liners oh and all the cot bedding, DD1 slept in it about once and I sold the lot on ebay never had a baby bath here either, B is in one of these baby seat but because she kicks and boucnes so much she is bouncing herself out of it I think I have one of these up the loft bigger bath seat I remember though DD2 detested it, DD2 doesn't like to be contained so we ended up getting two bath baths covering the whole bottom of the bath and just letting her go once she was walking, B gets dunker before her sisters and sometimes I get in after them too so 4 people washed in one bath!

disney - ouch what a day your poor DS sounds horrid but such a boy thing to do

pigley - loved your BLWing pics I took some yesterday when it was carrot, today was pear and it was up the wall, theres some great pics on that website, I gave B some pasta dipped in potato and leek puree she loved it, if she got too big a bit off she just spat it out.

ponto - nightmare about your central heating so will you have to pay all that money for it?

bebe - glad you are feeling a wee bit better, can DH not do bath duty for now, my DP had to do it when I was pregnant with the SPD but he actually enjoys it so now he does it on Sundays?

disneystar · 20/01/2009 22:21

useless buys
snuggle nest cost £35 never used it
pre natal heart listening monitor used twice cost £25
tommee tippee bottles bottle to breast ones just confused him
dh home tonight so gives me a chance to read my new cookbook the abel cole one cooking out of the box
i love there stuff and have huge deliveries and actually look forward to tuesdays
omg how sad have i become

disneystar · 20/01/2009 22:24

sweetkitty thats first pic of bath seat in white is what sam uses right now
as he doesnt move he just fits perfect while i wash him

Greatsweetkittyothepuddingrace · 20/01/2009 22:36

It's a great seat disney but Bethany is so active she bounces out of it, I have to change clothes after bathing her she splashes so much I'm sure the other two weren't as bad.

So after my rant about baby walkers the other day I stuck B in one at toddlers today so I could do something with DD2, now she has only been ours which is on carpet but this one was on the parque flooring in the hall so she could move you should have seen her face, priceless. Oh and DD2 guarding her from toddlers with those little bubble car things.

pigleychez · 20/01/2009 22:51

SK- Abigail used one of these untill about a month ago.
She too would kick about so much that she would slide down so we ended up just laying her down in the bath. Now she just sits up on her own.

I too get soaked when giving her a bath. She loves splashing so much and we often find water the other side of the bathroom!

Ponto- about your water heater.
