re swimming - sit baby in car seat / buggy while you get changed; once the baby is dressed again she can go back in the car seat / buggy.

pigleychez · 18/01/2009 20:04

Isaidno- Buggys arent allowed in the changing rooms and the car seat is too big for the lockers.

disneystar · 18/01/2009 20:15

pigley we have huge cubicles as well as small ones
think there either family and disabled ones are there any of these in there?

cass66 · 18/01/2009 20:36

Ha ha isaidno, so true re the getting changed with baby! went swimming today, Ed loved it, lots of smiles and babbling, despite his sisters trying to splash him all the time. have been lent a baby wet suit for him, which is good, keeps him nice and warm. could have done with it for dd2 as there was (is) no fat on her, she used to go blue after 15mins.

went to a bellydance workshop today. cycled there, about 3miles, was shattered when I got there, I've not been on my bike for about a year! great dancing, a new class, and feel like the beginner, really hard.

Have been trying to give Ed a bottle as I am going back to work in TWO WEEKS!! he's not keen, took about an ounce or two, then yelled for me. hmmm. at a push I could go back to the nursery at lunch time to feed him but it would take a lot of time. hmmm. I'm sure he won't starve himself. If I remember rightly dd1 did much the same, and she's ok.

cass66 · 18/01/2009 20:38

..was also planning to wear lots of dresses to work, that I can't breast feed in very discretly! ho hum.

disneystar · 18/01/2009 20:41

bit of advise needed here
wherei live theres is little in the way of parent/toddler or baby sessions or classes
not that i get to without travelling some distance
samuel goes to a special needs group as ive said before and thats great and all follow either blw or healthy eating regimes

last week i braved a toddler group and i took samuel and brandon whos 3
brandon is used to eating healthy and when it came to snack time it was juice or fruit shoots and sausage rolls and choc biscuits,i was a bit taken aback really as i dont let him have this stuff
the group was quite good but how do i go about mentioning (or should i) that i want to take brandons own snack in and be tactfull about it

sweetkitty · 18/01/2009 21:12

Evening all busy day here we went into Glasgow shopping only to find they had closed elc had to take the girls quickly to the Disney store to make up for it, it was snowing on the way back, we popped into Pizza Hut for lunch, B had a feed then some crusts and a bit of goats cheese.

Bought her a few new outfits 6-9 months (well thought one was the hanger said 6-9 the outfit was 3-6 ) put her in her new 6-9 month babygros tonight as well, growing too fast . I bought her some dungarees all cosy.

ponto - babywalkers, Bethany's was given to me by a friend it was brand new I actually don't like them that much, theres a whole big debate about them being bad for babies development as they cannot see their feet in them and to move them they push along on their tip toes and it unnaturally supports their weight so they don't learn to support themselves properly. I think there was a study that showed that babywalkers cause children to walk 3 weeks later than those children who don't use them. DD1 never had one, DD2 did she walked a month before her sister. I also think they can cause lazy parenting, I know one friend in particular got her DS up, dressed and stuck him in the baby walker for the day practically as he was in at everything so it was a way of containing him, he walked very late and wouldn't put his feet down flat. I have been putting B in it but only for short periods and as soon as she can pull herself up to stand I will be getting rid. My whole downstairs is baby proofed so once she is crawling I will just let her go. Sorry that was an essay on baby walkers there

M2L - haven't really thought about baby signing always seemed like a good idea but never got round to it, how are you feeling now btw? Have you given Leah anything to eat yet?

Tjuice/isaidno - I haven't braved the pool yet with B, I know this sounds more PFB but I think she is too little and pools are so big and cold plus I don't really like pools myself, I take DD2 on Saturday morning when DD1 is at nursery though. I am planning on taking B next year when DD2 is at nursery 5 mornings a week. I hate the whole changing room, chlorine water, getting changed etc oh and don't start me on jacuzzis.

Tjuice - wow Elodie 8 months already where has the time gone, sounds like she is doing great on her food and naps now

pigley - weaning a baby is not nice, it's so messy. You should have seen B tonight, she had pureed carrot and broccoli and some mash, with broccoli and carrot batons to chew on, she did quite well with the carrot but her face with the broccoli was fab. I think it takes them a good few weeks to get the hang of it.

cass - Ed is probably smelling the milk on you, B won't take a bottle from me but will take it from DP or SIL, when I give her one she refuses as if she wants it from the source. How can you take your DDs and Ed swimming, we cannot all go as you need one adult to one child?

disney - that sounds odd for a toddler group, the ones have been too are healthy snacks, although DD2 twigged very quickly that the grown ups have cake on their table and would toddle up and shout cake

Funny moment B now babbles Dad and Dada, she shouted DAD very loudly at 6am this morning, of course DP refuses to believe it's only a sound and she isn't calling him

sweetkitty · 18/01/2009 21:13

sorry about the huge post

MinnieMummy · 18/01/2009 21:13

Disney maybe just say that he's fussy and prefers his own stuff?? Good for you for going though!
M2L I took DS to signing classes and am now taking Poppy. DS didn't really pick up that many signs (milk, more, duck and er, crocodile, very useful) but I think that's because he's a typical lazy boy who can get what he wants by grunting/shrieking and pointing quite well. I'm persevering with P though mostly for the social side to be honest - it's the friendliest group I've ever been too and all my mummy friends are from there. One of them her DD is very good at it and has more words than my DS as well. I think studies show that it's more likely to help with speech overall.
Wow Pigley at Abigail standing!! I thought it was pretty amazing that she could sit on her own let alone stand.

Ok my question... for those of you who have established BLW, how long roughly did it take your LOs from first putting food in front of them to them actually eating it? I know it can take weeks/months, just wanted to get a ball park picture.

Bumbo tray working well here, P loves to mash the food up and then shove it off the side onto the floor... but the look of concentration on her face is brilliant!

Isaidno · 18/01/2009 21:31

minniemummy - I started blw at 26 weeks, and it was not until 29 weeks I thought anything was going in, and not until 30 weeks (this week) I saw any evidence in her poo. TMI I'm sure but today's poo was def brocolli!! I still think she is only swallowing small amounts, but this week she is more enthusiastic, and better at controlling the passage of food to her mouth. She bit off more than she could chew (!) today and I had to fish gungy cake out of the back of her mouth.

pigley - I used to leave my car seat in changing room, but if you think someone might nick it couldn't you put it at the side of the pool?

OP posts:
Isaidno · 18/01/2009 21:35

here is a special swim bag - honestly there is a product for everything these days!

OP posts:
pigleychez · 18/01/2009 21:50

isaidno- Love the bag.... dont even have to carry your baby, just lay baby on the bag, drawstring it up and off you go! !

disneystar · 18/01/2009 22:42

sweetkitty the toddler group is run by a few moms and they take it in turns to provide the snacks...not very organised at all really and most of our goings on are at our village hall, its like the dark ages round here
they think im outrageous and weird as i do blw and carry my lil offspring about in a sling or on my hip,one mom offered his some chocolate and i had to say nicely sorry hes not allowed to eat that (plus hes only 6 mths)she said hers was 8mths old and was wolfing a twix .
if i even mention he eats rice cakes and hummous dont know if they would even know what it was.(thats sounds rude but also very true)
but i am an outsider here i dont belong iykwim i wasnt born here i dont speak the same so hey i must be weird huh!

disneystar · 18/01/2009 22:44

about the subject of blw its funny samuel may not be able to move much or sit etc...
but he sure know where the food goes,if i put it in his hands or near where he can reach it its straight in the mouth and bites hard with his sharp teeth, hes def eating and going in one end and out the other thats within 2 weeks

Isaidno · 19/01/2009 07:52

Poppy is really wolfing her toast this morning. I used some jarred fruity baby food (free in Bounty pack) as jam and it seems to be going down a treat.
Disney - why don't you bring some extra healthy snacks to playgroup? You might convert some toddlers to fruit and houmous!! I'm not anti biscuits but a twix does seem a bit much.

OP posts:
mama2leah · 19/01/2009 09:32

yeh i did blw, my hubby gave her bread and mad on saturday, " becoz she looked hungry"...i gave her pear yesterday, oh she didnt liek that at all...and gav her a cucumber to snack on, she reali lived that..today i tink green beans is the way to go.

but wen she was havin the toast, she sucked on it, and bits came in her mouth, do i leave her? or take them out?

also the cucumber she was shovin right to the back of her throat...an makin distressed faced...

this stage is all abt playing, and texures right?

mama2leah · 19/01/2009 09:33

baby signing, i saw the videos on u tube, and learnin from there.

mcchesers · 19/01/2009 09:36

Morning ladies.

Hope you are all doing well. A is at childminders this morning while I get myself sorted out. It looks like with DH's job we'll be moving back to the states. In (gulp) three weeks. I'm trying not to lose my mind about it, but there is a lot to do, and not so much time to do it in. I've been over and over the pros and cons, but what with the state of the economy we'd be better off over there and close to my family.

Sounds like everyone is doing well with the weaning. A has dinner and sometimes porridge for brek but otherwise just milk. He's a big lad and is still working on sitting up unaided and gags a bit on solid food. He is very keen to figure out the sippy cup though!

We're still waiting for the buyers to conclude missives. They've been approved for the loan, just waiting for the full processing. How frustrating..we're really needing to buy our tickets asap so hoping that will happen this week sometime.

Hope you are all well.

x R

Isaidno · 19/01/2009 10:13

mcchesers - I'm sure it will all go fine x
m2l - as long as leah is sitting upright - not reclined at all - food should fall out of her mouth because she won't have the skills to move it back or chew. You need to be careful with bread because glutinous bits can get stuck in a lump in the mouth. Toast or pitta bread is better to start with. You are right - it's just tastes and textures at the mo. Resist the urge to help her get it in her mouth, let her control what she can and can't do.
Also let her try pear again - a baby can take up to 20 tastes before he / she decides if it's nice!

OP posts:
mama2leah · 19/01/2009 10:48

oh my half solid poo today...

cass66 · 19/01/2009 11:28

SK, we can all go swimming because at our local pool one adult can take 2 kids, also my girls are slightly older than yours (6 and 4), my 6 yr old can swim, and we all stay in the baby pool, about 1 m deep. it's chaos though.

feel ugh today, tired and full of cold and achey from yesterdays cycling/dancing. and going dancing again tonight. yawn.

I'm also winding myself up about going back to work in 2 weeks. I'm sure I've forgotten everything. and I'm worried about Ed.

wow, mchesers, relocating to the states that soon. how exiting and scary! Good luck.

disney, stick to your guns re snacks. interestingly, Ed doesn't seem overly keen on the few sweet things he's had (biscotti, bit of my muffin). prefers broccoli!!

mama2leah · 19/01/2009 13:41

how long do u let the baby play with the food, leah was jus puttin beans in and out her mouth, then got reali bored..and got distracted...hmm

pigleychez · 19/01/2009 14:38

M2l- I usually let Abigail be my guide.. whens she had enough or lost interest then time to give up.

On BLW Abigail tried toast today and absoultely loved it! Few gags but no sick today.
Im really enjoying seeing her tucking into her food.

Isaidno · 19/01/2009 16:36

m2l - until she's bored.
I am surprised you have semi solid poo. Poppy is nowhere near eating that much.

OP posts:
mama2leah · 19/01/2009 17:08

so am i, maybe coz she didnt poo a few days( 5 days)...she pooed yesterday normal poo..but todau, both had solidy bits mixed in it...
