Oh yes they might be small babies but they know exactly what is going on, Bethany likes to be upright and in the centre of things, she knows the travel cot now and starts moaning as soon as you go near it to put her in it, her favourite thing is to swipe all her toys off her highchair then immediately cry for you to pick them up. Oh yes pigley "the I'm not happy put on cry" we have it here too. Bethany's favourite toy is a big brightly coloured caterpillar.

Re allergies - I think thats why they say one food at a time so you can gauge their reaction. We have no allergies in our family so I gave her a yoghurt a few days ago, all fine, tried strawberry today too. Isaidno is right as always cows milk fine from 6 months in food unless you have known dairy allergies in the family but not as a main drink, so cheese, yoghurt, butter, milk on cereal all OK.

pigley - fingers crossed for your viewings I know it's stressful keeping the house pristine with a baby, we out our flat on the market when DD1 was 4 weeks, sold it when she was 13 months (but thats another story)

sarahpo - don't be a stranger and glad you and pigley had a nice meet up thats lovely. I remember with DD1 making all these lovely AK recipes and her spitting them out, we very swiftly moved onto BLWing. I remember going round a friend of my Mums houe and she had twin DSs a few weeks younger than DD1, they were about 10 months at the time, DD1 was having a cheese roll, a banana and raisins for her lunch whilst they were still being fed pureed orange jars, everyone was at DD1 picking up a cheese roll and eating it, BLWing is a new thing to a lot of people.

Poledra- With you on the remote controls- however Abigails fav is the sky remote!

Just before xmas I bought a little LED flashing teddy hanging ornament thats now hung next to her changing unit.. that flashing away really grabs her attention and it sooo much easier to change her now Best £2 ever spent!

x-posts - oh yes I put B on the mat turn round and she's rolled away, didn't think I would have to pin her down and sing to her this early. B is always after the wipe packet too.

Oh yes the joys of trying to change a pooey toddler nappy usually in a packed changing room and she's going "NOOOOO I not lie down" at the top of her voice and you are wrestling with her.

Hi all, nice to see new thread. Been lurking for ages.

Sarahpo, nice to see you are happier. I know from being out here how important it is to make friends when you're somewhere new.

M2L congratulations. Sorry the doc was a bit of an arse, though!

L is doing fab. Weighs 8.4 kg and is 69cm, so he's moved up to the 75th centile for weight and height. Little fatty. I'll stick a pic on the facebook group.

On three meals a day. Cass, like you, am doing a mix of mush and finger food - carrots and then maybe a rusk, although I watch him like a hawk. He did really well on his milestones at the doc's as well, can sit with support and loves standing up and bouncing. Bless his heart. Lovely poos too, he strains so much, making such an effort and just gets this little hard pebble in his pants. Or maybe a great big green splodge (broccoli, nice). Thanks god for nappy liners that we can just flush.

Pigley, fingers crossed for your sale and (hopefully) move.

M2L - I don't know about your friend but banana and apple have been amongst the first foods I have given all 3, I mushed up a bit of banana until it was all gloopy added some EBM mixed it all up and she sucked in off the spoon

My bible for all things baby feeding related is here kellymom

theres a table half way down that shows you food to avoid if you are concerned about allergies

carrot, sweet potato, banana, pear, apple, broccoli, potato, butternut squash are great first foods

this is a great guide from aitch's blog explaining first foods and how to prepare them plus info on gagging etc

fisr finger foods

I'm off to read it all for inspiration now

disney - thats great about Sam holding and eating toast, I give Bethany finger foods at every meal she loves toast

oh info for first time mums I just remembered poos - banana is like black strings, carrot well looks like carrot, broccoli is just well green and weetabix is something else altogether

sweetkitty very interesting reading Aitch,s blog
also in kellymom is said about citrus fruit not to be given until 9mths +
do you know why not? samuel loves sucking on an orange probably one of his favourite im a bit worried now TBH
M2L ive also given banana apple sweetpotato, broccoli although sam really dislikes that......makes his shudder with disgust....although quite funny to watch

does anyone else find that they know think of very plain and maybe boring things at random times
example tonight im upstairs with my dh i love my room its like a lounge really complete with en-suite,huge tv on the wall sky, and tea and coffee making facilities, just wanted to eplain as people wonder why when the dc,s go to bed i go to my room as well,
easier to get to them
trying to get samuel to stay in his room,

anyway back to original question
tonight my dh lying on the bed on his xbox 360 (so boring)
and here i am thinking about what new foods i can try with samuel
he asks what im doing and i say what do think about melon.....
he says im weird and dont i think about normal things no more
well its normal to me......

I wouldn't worry disney about the orange - if a ff baby is constipated you are advised to give dilute orange juice. I guess 9 mths is cos citrus is prob just a bit hard on tummies because of the acidity.

That is normal, disney. My DH is very work-focussed and sometimes, TBH, he's telling me all about some complicated grant application he's involved in (we're both scientists, so I should understand/be interested) and I'm thinking I wonder if O would like to try weetabix, or what can I do to get DD2 to stop wetting her bloody knickers because these things are more immediately important to me .

Anyway, currently trying to plan redecorating DH's old study for DD1 so off to try and find an on-line room planner (yes, DH was supposed to do all this before Orlaith was born - I refer you to my above comments).

disney - I believe it's because citrus can cause an allergic reaction in some babies, but if Samuel is happy with orange he's obviously not allergic and all is well.

I do the same thing mind wanders all over the place too, I get these thoughts then I'm off on google all the time.

I'm saving up for a netbook we have a desktop as DP convinced me to get one as he thought I would spend all night in bed on MN and he would never see me so I'm in the dining room which opens onto the lounge so I can see the TV too.

My current plans/obsessions are decorating the big bedroom so DD1 and 2 can move in together with bunkbeds but it's so difficult as they are so different, DD1 is pink obsessed and wants a Stephanie duvet cover, DD2 likes purple and Scooby Doo. Am also looking at painting the kitchen and kids bathroom and reflooring it oh and decorating our room once B moves out have decided on black and white. I drive DP mad.

Hi everyone.....I have a quick question for isaidno re real nappies.

  • I was using real nappies sucessfully until meg grew out of the Kissaluvs I had, I need to get some more 'work horse' nappies and I was thinking about the Motherease Onesize, I have noticed you have some for sale, is there a particular reason your selling?, how have you got on with them? Are they a good choice as a nappy to use most of the time? ( sorry lots of questions)

would be grateful for some advice

DonutMum · 18/01/2009 06:28

hi puddingchef, just a hijack. the motherease onesize are great nappies, esp when paired with the motherease wrap. Used with DS2 and now baby L. I use two boosters with them for a night nappy and it goes 12 hours.

The othe fab one, but for "posh" use is the blueberry minki. Pricey but worth every penny.

Just a quickie now before I get dug in!

What a terrible night (well for me, not compared to some of you, I do have sympathies for you all!) I didn't get to bed until 1 (Friends 30th party coupled with damn addictive Guitar Hero when I got home! -) then Sam woke at 2.30 and din't sttle until 3.30, then DS1 woke up, aaarrrggh went o bed finally at 4, woke again at 6! To top it all off I now have to stand in the kitchen and make all the food for Sam's Christening this afternoon (which I am really looking forward to! Can't wait to see all my friends and family)

So I hope you all have a good day, and I;ll upload some pics later!

puddingchef - I just have too many!! I have kept some MEOS because I do like them as they are simple, reliable, dry fairly quickly. They are a workhorse nappy but I like flashy patterns more! I dream of owning a blueberry...

Jodie - don't fall asleep at the cooker! Hope the Christening goes well.

Poppy threw up everywhere this morning but she's just had some more bm and a bit of toast so hopefully she's not poorly.

Jodie - hope you have a lovely christening day, we too are planning Bethany's for Feb/March once we get DD2's birthday out the way.

I love cloth nappies too but sold all of mine shortly before DD2 was born (why? why? why?) I think I was really stressed with the whole house move living in one room thing, then the thought of two in nappies scared me and DP was never that keen. I still yearn for them

I had MEOs but DD1 was such a heavy wetter I preferred tots bots with ME wrap. Fuzzi Bunz are lovely but used to leak after an hour even when boosted.

Speaking of which DD2's pull ups have been dry every day for about a week now, I am still putting one on her just in case as I don't fancy changing a bed at 4am. I could only have one in nappies soon

I had cotton nappies with dd1 and dd2 (Motherease one size, they were ace), but Bryony has had really bad nappy rash every time I've used them. I'm psyching myself up to try again, but I've got so used to the speed of changes with disposables that I keep putting it off. Reading all these enthusiasts has inspired me again though, so maybe I'll give it a go later.

Off to the panto in a couple of hours with the girls and friends who also have 3 girls, the men are going to be seriously outnumbered!

Bryony has learnt to sit up this week, which makes it much easier to feed her in her highchair. Sweetkitty, I noticed on your facebook photos that Bethany has a baby walker, how does she get on with it?

Disney, I know what you mean about random thoughts, I am always thinking about house stuff and weaning foods! Last week we admitted defeat trying to control the children's toys and turned our dining room into a playroom, so now I keep trying to work out what extra storage we need to buy, and how to fit a sofa and tv in there. It's worked really well so far, the lounge looks much neater now, despite the dining table being there. Previously, there was meant to be a play area and an adult area, but the toys seem to breed and took over the whole room!

Jodie, enjoy the christening. We are trying to arrange Bryony's, had got a date that everyone could make, then my parents said that they couldn't make it because of a golf match . So we're looking at March now. Do you think I can lose 1.5 stone in 7 weeks????

hi ladies

m2l - i am wavering between thinking its pretty interesting and its a bit lame, iykwim. are you going to learn? from a book or can you do a course in it?

well, i had a relaxing sunday, its freezing here and windy but i did venture out to the shops with elodie and we stopped in at a gallery on the way. she really likes looking at paintings!

she was babysat for the first time by my neighbours last night. which wasn't a problem as she slept from 7 until 7.30. I am so glad we gave up dummy again, she is sleeping really well and is really happy when she is up.
she is almost 8 months now and we've dropped the afternoon nap most days, unless she is in the pram when she will fall asleep for a bit. But now she is getting hard to put down for the morning nap. This morning she wouldn't go down, so stayed up until 12.30, then slept until almost 3.
Is this normal to drop all naps except lunchtime already??

Food is going ok too but i should be cooking more for her, i guess. She has a mixture of different porridge and fruit purees, mash potatos or sweet potato, she loves bread with hummus or cream cheese, rice cakes, fruit and veg, especially raw peeled apples. For protein, she has had chicken, egg and cheese. May try fish this week.
She doesn't really like the "orange jars" as SK calls them.

I actually did a wee bit of shopping with my friend on sat. They had two for the price of one on Vivienne Westwood bags (50 quid each) so I bought a huge red patent one - the coolest changing bag ever!!! Was v. exciting as I haven't really bought anything from the sales at all.

This week, I may drag myself to baby swimming, if I can work out the logistics of changing etc with baby.
Also may try music classes on Friday. I have really gone off those kind of activities but I think E is of the age when she would love to shake her maracas with other babies. And she absolutely loves the bath.

Report
Isaidno · 18/01/2009 18:39

tjuice - logistics of changing you and baby are this - you shiver and drip while you make Elodie all warm, dry and dressed, then you fling your own clothes on and leave, forgetting to comb your hair or check for smudged mascara.

Hi everyone,

Abigail had her first experience of proper food today. Shes sat with us before and played with carrots and cabbage but never got anything even remotely near her mouth.
Tonight she had cooked carrot sticks but again wasnt too fussed with them. I think they might be alittle slippery for her to grab. Anyway gave her a little rice cake and she loved playing with that as it was much easier to grasp. Went to the mouth a few times and had the odd lick then she really seemed to go for it and bits were breaking off in her mouth which soon came back out. DH and I were amazed at that, then she "ate" even more and lots of it was gone.. A few little gags then out pours the sick! I was good and kept my cool and just laughed it off with her. Abigail wasnt bothered in the slightest!
Im amazed shes started "eating" the food as last week she really wasnt interested at all.
After cleaning up the sick from her M+P giant highchair im begining to think a trip to Ikea might be in order!

Jodie- Hope the christening went well

M2L- My friend did signing with her DD and it was great but another friend did it with her DS and he speech was really delayed as he had no need to speak... Not decided on it myself really.

tjuice- DH and I have taken Abigail swimming together but I too have been debating the logistics of what to do with Abigail whilst im getting changed Only thing I can think of is laying her on a dry towel on the floor.

We had a lovely walk round the lake today. Abigail loved watching the ducks.

We went to view a house yesterday and was very disapointed. We knew it needed abit of work but once inside could see it needed ALOT of work... About 30 grands worth! Every room needed completely gutting and starting again..walls knocking down.. the lot- far too much to do with a 6mth old! Shame as it overlooked a beautiful nature park which would of fab for walks with Abigail... oh well keep looking

Got a splitting headache now as Abigail has been doing the loudest, highest pitch, ear peircing shrieking all day! Def found her voice.

Sorry girls... just realised the mammouth post
