Blimey disney just seen your post too, best wishes for your dh hope all is well and you have a safe journey xx

purplejennyrose · 12/02/2009 22:21

Yeah a Glos meet up would be cool! I'd be up for that - though def can't do Mar 28th. Who was it in Cardiff?? - not too far from Glos in a way...

Disney - best wishes for dh and safe journey - hope all OK. xx

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 13/02/2009 08:44

Hello all.

RedSalamander - My recent top tip for looking half decent even if you feel like death is that gradual fake-tan you can get which you use like moisturiser, boots do their own version which is really cheap and I just slap it on instead of my normal moisteriser every other morning. I used to buy beautiful high heels and never wear them (I'm 5'10" anyway) so now I am very strict with myself and only buy flats but my beautiful high heels still sit there looking inviting.

Disney - hope your DH is ok.

PJR - the D&V bug was nasty and glad to hear you are all much better. That's great news about your job.

mummywannabe - sometimes being at work does feel like a break doesn't it, it's weird I don't think it's until you have had a child or looked after one fulltime that you realise how busy they keep you but when you look back at the day you can't work out what you have been doing all the time IYSWIM.

mccheesers - I am sure they have broadband access in Texas! You aren't going anywhere in the cyber world really. I hope the move goes well!

m2l - A went from putting on half a pound a week to nothing in 2 weeks, I am sure there is nothing wrong with Leah it's just they are reaching a developmental phase where they do more i.e. sitting up so they need more energy as SK said breastmilk has lots of lovely calories in it and for weaning foods you could try avocado, A loves it smeared on to rice cakes.

Sleep - arggghhhh. Just arggghhh. We had one night where A went 10:30pm to 6:30am (I of course still had to get up for toilet breaks as my bladder is so used to them!) but then went right back to his normal wake up 3am and then morning time at 5:45am thing. My DH said to me that A would sleep thru when he is ready. I nearly screamed, it's so easy for him to say that it's not him who gets up every night, night after night. My fantasies have gone from owning a house in the Caribbean to one night of 7 hours sleep.

Long post - today I'm at work, time for a quiet cup of tea and bowl of cereal , just hope I don't fall asleep under the desk.

Poledra · 13/02/2009 10:15

Libra, get them heels on! I'm 5'10'' too and that's no reason not to wear beautiful shoes. I find the extra height does me no harm when I'm dealing with some of the more unenlightened men at work.

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 13/02/2009 10:38

lol, are you size 8? maybe I should send them to you! I just don't find them comfortable to walk in, I never learnt the trick!

ponto · 13/02/2009 12:07

It was me in Cardiff, Ross on Wye would definitely be within range for a meet-up.

Trying to pack to go to my mum's for half-term, I told dh if he came home early I would be ready so we could leave after picking up dd1 at 3.30. But I accidentally spent too long at my friend's this morning and now I'm feeding Bryony, time seems to be running out.

MinnieMummy · 13/02/2009 22:00

Sorry to hear about your DH Disney, really hope he is ok.

We are trying the 'SK' weaning method here too, P loves to chomp on whatever is waved in front of her face/in her general vicinity so I make some kind of lumpy puree but try and put solid finger food versions of it on her tray at the same time. She will not sit straight in her damn bumbo though, she is intent on leaning over sideways to try and get at whatever her brother is having... which he is not impressed by, he is getting very irate if she touches anything that he thinks is 'his' and squeals exceptionally loudly in protest, lovely!

I am now only half a stone off my pre-preg weight but so why do I feel so haggard and like it's 2 stone?!! Just feeling sooo unsexy and unfeminine at the moment. Perhaps it's all the dried baby sick/sticky fingers over my clothes...

Anyone actually got anything romantic planned for tomorrow? We have the 'special' M&S meal but that's it!

JODIEhadtoomanymincepies · 14/02/2009 09:38

Disney hope your DH gets better and can come home soon.

minnie we do this too, Sam also has a stick f something to chew on along with something I'm spoon feeding him, at the moment he's eating 'left-over' Spag Bol and loving it! He also has a think fo Sweet POtato!

Well I;m off to Glam myslef up in a bit, going to Hairdressers and going short, choppy and blonde! I've nearly lost a stone and am sick and tired of looking so haggard and 'mumsy' all the time. I used to be a Air Hostess and am used to wearing a nice uniform and wearing nice makeup and generally making an effort, so time for a change I think...... Wish me luck!

TheRedSalamander · 14/02/2009 09:59

Lucky you jodie getting all glammed up! you going out tonight? I went out last night and it felt really good to wear a bit of make up and proper shoes. Should make more of an effort to do it more often, although after a bottle and a half of red wine I don't feel quite as good this morning Talking of getting all dressed up nicely, where's tjuice these days? Hope all is well with you mrs.

Still in pj's here, dh out for a long run so boys and I just slobbing out. Off to play centre later though, how romantic . We've been together nearly 14 years though so that's enough romance really!

pigleychez · 14/02/2009 14:15

oh getting glammed up sounds fab! Its been a while! Think id be a tad overdressed for a chinese takeaway at home tonight.

Ive currently got a poorly baby asleep on my lap. Abigail has a nasty cold, watery, grunky eyes, temperature and is refusing any milk. Lucky to get 1oz of milk down her every 3 hours. Doesnt help that she needs her mouth to breath from!
She's really unsettled at night and spends most of her day flat out on my lap which is really not like her at all. She was really upset earlier which made me alittle sad too.
Horrible to see her so poorly and know theres nothing you can really do for her

DH bought me some roses today, some heart shaped marshmallows and a heart shaped slab of white choc which is my fav! Hope everyone else is being spoilt today

Mummywannabe · 14/02/2009 17:33

Oh pigely, sympathies. I have a poorly one too! We had planned to go tonight only 2nd time since DS was born! But he has a temperature despite calpol, think its his teeth. Cancelled nanna to babysit (even though she thinks i should still go out, but i wouldn't enjoy it).

bebejones · 14/02/2009 18:49

Minniemummy - P won't sit upright in bumbo either, she is constantly leaning over trying to grab at anything she can see & likes the look of...my trousers, her playmat, the cat!

Having a fairly crappy day, DH currently shouting at the rugby & therefore upsetting P. Drove into Gloucester to get a playtray for bumbo...sold out. Went to tesco's alone, cleaned up cat sick (three times) & am cooking special 3 course dinner. DH has done naff all. I have done all P's changes & feeds & entertained her all day. Really hacked off. Last Valentine's I was so poorly with morning sickness & this year have the MS & feel really deflated and unspecial. I'm in desperate need of a haircut & also need to lose loads of weight as the only clothes that fit properly are my trackie bottoms & DH's hoodie! Anyway got to go sort out dinner & possible neck a glass or 10 of wine!

sweetkitty · 14/02/2009 19:11

Happy Valentines Day, we don't celebrate it here am a bit bah humbug load of commercial nonsense but SIL has offered to babysit tomorrow so we are going into Glasgow for a Wagamamas and for DP to get new running shoes, will be strange just the two of us, we maybe get 2-3 outings a year max just DP and I.

Oh what a lot of poorly babies we still have 3 very gunky noses here too

Everyone feeling like bag ladies I so feel teh exact same I think it's been 6 months since my hair was cut it's lank and greasy and just yuck, my skin is always a horrid grey colour as well, I have lost all the baby weight but don't have the time or money to have any decent clothes. Make up is hit and miss I think I am doing well if I have clean hair.

bebejones - ((((hugs))) hope you have a nice evening once the rugby is finished of course

mummywannabee - oh poor you sorry your night out is cancelled

pigley - aww another poorly one, hope Abigail is better soon

redsalamander - glad you had a good night out it's nice to put on make up and proper shoes isn't it but I agree late nights and wine aren't good anymore

Jodie - you must post a pic of your new hairdo on FB, I am also going shorter if I can ever get motivated to go to the hairdressers, thing to do next week - go to the blooming hairdressers, anyway hope you feel glam

minniemummy - am humbled "the SK way of weaning" maybe I should bring out books and ice cube trays ala Annable Karmel , no it's just a bit of making up as you along. I got told off on the BLWing threads for saying I did mostly BLWing with DD2 apart from yoghurt, got told well thats now BLWing then, wrists slapped! But half purees/half finger foods works for us, tonight she had some leek and potato with cheese and loved it. I gace her a jar this afternoon and she hates savoury jars but likes my homecooked food (clever girl), loves the fruit purees though and I don't have time to puree fruit cubes these days. I think the savoury jars taste a bit yuck, all I can taste is cornflour. Anyway whatever works.

Libra - sleep is for the weak don't you know lol? Up twice a night is the norm for us now.

Hope everyone else is having a erm romantic night, might actually have one myself if the DDs ever go to bed although DP has hinted that since I am wearing the t-shirt I gave birth in and mancky joggy bottoms it's a bit erm difficult.

TJuice · 15/02/2009 12:42

hi ladies

its been a while . . . i have a sicky child too. she has been doing 7 til 7 for ages but past two nights we have had a few wakings with bunged up nose and coughing. I am really really prudent with the Calpol and baby panadol but have had to give a wee bit past few days. She is still good-natured when she is up, just has snot running down and is soaking bibs with drool as her mouth is open all the time! I do have a really good nasal suction bulb thing but she hates when i do it.

have also been on a mission to sort out nursery place for her and looks like things may be coming together. we may join another couple and child to do a private childminder arrangment until we get places at nurseries - i think half the time in my flat and half in theirs, with an experienced childminder looking after them both. the only problem is that they want full-time care and I will be working 8.30 until 1.30 so could potentially pick up elodie at 2pm but would have to pay full-time. Its not expensive though - approximately 300 pounds a month standard fee for private daycare, nursery or whatever arrangement you chose.

anyway, if we do that, the arrangement will start in march, so i will have a month of "free time" before i go back to work. could potentially work on my masters thesis . . ho hum . .

so now i have to reapply to a nursery but have some documentation from my Dr and HV saying that Elodie needs a place at a quiet, close-by nursery because she was early and had a kidney operation. She is so healthy and well, that I feel like its a bit of a blag. But getting your kid into a suitable nursery takes some time here in copenhagen, so i will do it by any means necessary.

valentines - well, got orchids yesterday but couldn't risk leaving E with a babysitter although we had plans to eat and hit a few bars in the trendy "meat-packing district" here. instead we cooked an indian meal with the upstairs neighbours and took the monitor up and ate vindaloo, sag aloo, mango lassis, tamarind chickpeas, poppadoms and pickles and some kind of indian dessert. For people in the uk, this is prolly soo nothing special but there are no good indian restaurants in this city, so you really have to get the madhur jaffrey cookbooks out if you want to have good indian food.

disney - is your dh okay? hope all is well with you and yours.

sk - also doing your special feeding method. seems like common sense to me but many of my mums group friends are very scared about choking so are still on straight purees at eight months. i am trying to organise an english-language course in child first aid through an insurance company here as so many first-time mums are nervous about what to do if choking happens or other accidents in the home. precious first borns? definitely . . .

hey salamander - thanks for the shout out i am slowly getting my fashion mojo back and have bought some nice bits and pieces in the sales and online. still a couple of kilos more than pre-pregnancy but am now jogging a few times a week and will join the company-discounted gym which has a creche. i used to hate exercising but am actually relishing the time off now, with my ipod on and out the house with no baby!

hey to everyone else
xoxo

ponto · 15/02/2009 20:42

Hi TJuice, nice to hear your news, hope Elodie shakes her cold off soon. We are also doing a mixture of finger foods and mush, but Bryony really hates savoury purees, especially out of jars, so now when I go out I am taking the 10 month plus jars instead, which are more lumpy. Then she tends to have a bit of whatever I'm having to feed herself with, plus pureed fruit and yogurt to fill her up.

Have just got back from a fantastic day trip to Butlins! The weather was lovely, we swam, had a picnic, watched a show, went on the funfair, had a nice meal and Bryony just fitted in with it all. All the kids fell asleep on the way home so we just carried them in, briefly fed Bryony and now dh and I have the evening to ourselves. We're staying at my mum's but she's gone away for the night so it's like staying in a holiday home - no housework to do, hooray!

sweetkitty · 15/02/2009 20:49

Evening all, we had a nice day too, went to Wagamama's, then for a wee shop and then had a coffee, sitting down relaxing people watching, eating a muffin to ourselves DDs had a ball with SIL and neice.

ponto - Bethany is the exact same hates savoury jars, will only eat homemade savoury and then at a push, loves yoghurts and fruit purees though

Tjuice - nice to hear from you, sorry Elodie is poorly too. You seem to have things quite sorted re nurseries etc now as well

Re the choking thing, I agree most Mums panic like mad when a baby chokes, I must admit I stand back and let B deal with it herself first. It's amazing the size of chunks she bites off but I have found that if it's too big for her she spits it out and she does cough a bit too but I just watch her and let her get on with it. I had DD1's new friends Mum over and she was feeding her 13 month old DD2 jars as she said she is too lazy to eat finger food or feed herself. My older two were never like that, they pushed the spoon away from me.

pigleychez · 15/02/2009 22:03

Glad to hear that everyones had a good day today

Things have been much better here today. Abigail has been much perkier and healthier! So much nicer to see her smiling again Had an Ok night last night too ( no worse that usual) which was suprising as we were expecting a nightmare!
Typically though shes past her cold onto DH! But like he said, rather him than her.

Good to hear from you again TJuice

Unpacked the walker today that Abigail got for xmas and she absolutely loves it! She loves standing up and the tunes on it are pretty funky and she loves jigging about to them. Ive quite enjoyed them too!

Abigail is doing well with the BLW. Been doing it for about 3.5 weeks now and finding tiny bits of evidence. She had her first yogurt the ohter day. Did really well of feeding herself. I gave her a spoon which she did put inot her mouth and if I loaded up the sppon then gave it to her she would put it into her mouth and suck the yogurt off. Messy but seeing her enjoy herself so much is worth it

Got a quiet week planned this week, even baby club has beeen cancelled due to the centre being refurbed.
Suppose ill have to do some housework!

disneystar · 16/02/2009 08:29

going to try a link here please sponsor me its going to be hard work as it is and i really want to do well

www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/amandamills2

disneystar · 16/02/2009 08:37

also thank you all very much for asking about my dh hes home and sort of ok
dislocated elbows and very black and bruised arm and 2 weeks of work as he cant lift samuel properly let alone a washing machine....lol
was funny when i had to collect him it normally takes 2 and half hours it took me 7 yep 7
i went from gloucester to middle of brum then turned round in aston villa
ended up at warwick then had a break down in services was crying and could not do the journey, his phone had died and i knew he was in huntinton in cambridgeshire and that was it
he kept ringing me from a number i had to trace via 118, after 2 hours and 60 odd phone calls i found him
then i had a 2 hour drive which took me 3 to get him
started of at 8am got him at 3.30pm it was only 138 miles to start with
my nerves were shattered by then and i had all 4 boys in the car.....

going to warwick castle today i have to drive but hes navigating and he never gets lost so im looking forward to that

thank you in advance for all that sponsor me even if £1 will be very appreciated indeed

Poledra · 16/02/2009 09:38

God, Disney, what a terrible drive. I wish I'd known, I'm not far from Huntingdon, you could at least have come for a cup of tea and a rest before you set off for home again. AND I'd have got to meet the lovely Samuel. Glad DH is not too bad, and enjoy Warwick Castle today. I'm off to soft play with the troops and a very dear friend of mine and her fiance, who I don't see very often as she lives up North. Should be fun.

Libra, much as I'd like to offer a home to your lovely shoes, I'm a size 6 so would probably not quite manage to walk in them . It pains me, I hate to hear of poor lonely unappreciated shoes . And speaking of not being able to walk in them, haven't you heard of taxi shoes? That would be shoes you only wear when you'll be taking a taxi everywhere as you cannot walk any distance in them under any circumstances?

Best go get ready. Love to everyone else.x

Mummywannabe · 16/02/2009 10:01

Pigley - glad abigail is bit better. Max in true form has not picked up yet. Lost his voice and not feeding, last night was very sick from all the coughing. Dreading nursery if he gets ill htis often at home!

Tjuice - sounds like you have great nursery system. It costs me over £300 for 2 days and i work there!

Sweetkitty/tjuice - agree about parents and the panic choking causes. At work i'm as cool as a cucumber, at home i'm less rational . I'm 1st aid trained, so should be confident. Tried to organise a parents 1st aid course for the nursery parents at work and only had 3 interests out of 55 parents. I find that hard to understand.

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 16/02/2009 10:45

Pigley - good news that Abigail is better, it's horrible when they are ill/in pain and don't understand why.

TJuice - if you have to blag it to get E into the nursery of your choice then I say do it and do it without a guilty conscience, there will be so many things to feel guilty about in the coming months (i.e. sending her to nursery when she isn't feeling 100%) that you shouldn't waste energy on the little things.

mummywannabe - that's really surprising about the first aid course, I would have thought every parent would do one if they get a chance. I am doing one with the rest of my NCT class on Saturday. Also £300 for 2 days - wow do you work in London?

Ponto - sounds a fab day out! I love picnics, can't wait for summer!

DS - glad your DH is back home and it does sound like an eventful day. How was Warwick castle?

Poledra - my taxi days passed with the arrival of A!

We spent Valentines evening watching the rugby and drinking champagne . I also got a lovely bunch of roses and lillies with a card that read "Ha!" (because DH and I don't do valentines usually!)

I put on my evil mother hat this weekend and left A crying when he woke up in the night, went in to check on him every 5 minutes (dummy back in, stroke the tummy and sang twinkle twinkle little star - 3am does weird things to your brain). The first night it took him an hour to go back to sleep the first time and 10 minutes the second. The second night he only woke once and it took just over 30 minutes for him to go back to sleep. Last night he slept from 10:30pm - 6:40am (we had to wake him up!). I, of course, was awake every hour wondering if he was ok. Hopefully we have cracked it now but oh god it was difficult just leaving him. DH was going to take over night duty last night having slept in the spare room Fri,Sat as he was working.
the conversation last night went like this:
DH: so if he cries leave him for 5 minutes go in comfort him quickly and then leave for another 5 minutes
me: yes
DH: can I pick him up.
Me: NO. THE WHOLE POINT IS NOT PICKING HIM UP.
DH: oh, I might find that quite difficult.
Me: If you pick him up you negate what I have been doing the last 2 nights AND I WILL HAVE TO KILL YOU.

luckily, as I have said, he didn't wake at all.

TJuice · 16/02/2009 13:19

good luck with the rest of the sleep training, libra! its not easy but i think its the best thing i did - better sleep all round.

and i agree - get those heels on! I am size 7 - 8 too and 5ft 10. I like that glamazon tranny look!!!!

well, actually, i have been wearing a small heel for a while now on ankle boots and shoes (who knew Clarks did cute shoes??) but haven't worked my way up to my full heels for nights out. I have my real shoe candy archived - all lined up on shelves in a walk-in storage cupboard ;)

Talking of shoes, i just got a big care package from my parents. My mum hit TKMaxx and sent me some red maryjanes with a small heel and a lovely Les Nereides necklace. The rest of the huuuuge box was for Elodie - nappies, wipes, hand knit hats and gloves, tights, Ella's kitchen and Plum baby food, Hipp Formula, a little toy mobile phone that they recorded a message on (so sweet), wooden rattles and maracas, a singing bear, a koala, baby stock cubes (?) and more . . . So sweet!

elodie is a little better - slept 7 til 6 last night and then passed out in bed with me til 9. she is asleep now too - think she just needs to sleep it off.
the snot is gross though, but she won't let me wipe or suction it out. its such a fight that i just give up and let her soak bibs.

Rumpel · 16/02/2009 16:33

Hi All,

Not been on for a while due to a cold, followed by gastroenteritis (I was mortified as my DH called an ambulance) I have low BP and was being sick, fainting and trying not to have the skits all at the same time - nice .Now I have yet another cold.

Whoever mentioned your hair/skin etc going out the window after you have a bubba was so right. Luckily I had very very thick hair as it is still falling out and about a third of the thickness it used to be. I think you lose a sense of who you are too - you are unsure about what to wear/make-up and after wearing flats for so long heels are a bit scary - especuially if you have other littlies to chase after. I am only just starting to feel a bit more like my odl self now and DH ordered me some nice clothes off the internet on Friday so they should be here tomorrow. I am basically and old hippie/goth and love all that kind of thing.

CASS - I adore VO the Beehive and have trailed the internet looking for a CD - I have their vinyl but no record player. One of my favourite albums.

DISNEY - missed what happened to your DH - an accident? Hope things are getting better for you allxxxx

Calvin is really long too and in 12-18 month babygrows. I havent had him measured for a while though. he has been poorly too - cold/cough and conjunctivitis.

MUMMYWANNABE - what are you studying again? Its bloody hard work studying with kids. Sure I only finished in June and DH started last month. He was supposed to be at Uni Tuesday, Wed and Thurs last week but ended up just amking Tus as I was too busy puking and he had to look after the DCs.

Missed my tribal bellydacning workshop too I was so looking forward to it.

JODIE Butterfly is Ria Parkinson, Not an Otter - she of many names she is.

Must go as DD acting up

hope you are all well and sorry for ramble....

xxx

GILLY< MRS HUBARB DONUT how you guys doing?

Kaz1967 · 16/02/2009 19:53

Kezzy just pulled her self up to standing. She hung on for a few seconds then promptly fell over and banged her head She is now kneeling (yep) desperately trying to push her she is too young to stand she is not 8 months yet and is still mastering crawling
