Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MinnieMummy · 10/02/2009 12:56

Well this morning I went to my local NCT under-1s group for the first time... and no one talked to me! I am not terribly outgoing, but I did make a few attempts - just got one-word replies. Sigh! It's a shame as it seems to be quite an organised group with different activities/guests each week, but I don't think I can be bothered to go back to be honest.

Other news here, DH has been hating his job for some time (and predictably doing nothing about it) and the area manager was in a couple of weeks ago and was quite hard on him (he is meant to sell stuff like payment protection on loans, he hates doing it) but yesterday offered him a different position - lower grade but same money and more chance of making a bonus! So seems like a good deal all round. Hopefully a happier household here!

TheRedSalamander · 10/02/2009 15:43

Minnie some groups are just pants. But some are good- must say your experience sounds horrid, I guess it's a bit hit and miss.
for you though that no-one said hello, if you lived by me you'd be fighting us all off we're such a load of gabbers

Has anyone else got a really long baby? Louis is not particularly tall centile wise (I don';t think, not done since 6 week check and not even been weighed since October ) but his body is sooo long that he's growing out of some 6-12 month stuff. Think his arms and legs are still in 6 month stuff though! He's not a t-rex I promise, big old body with little flipper arms

Otter/Butterfly/Ria- thought Ria Parkinson was the feisty little one, Carla, from Cheers (I loved that show!) until I googled it and got butterflies- of course it blimmin was minkus you fool. Have you got a Butterfly thing?

re: Meet up, I can get to Solihull, are you doing a day time thing or evening?

Isaidno · 10/02/2009 20:38

minkus - we're thinking of evening at the mo - a civilised (?) meal and a chat. Daytime is certainly harder for me as I have to either juggle the time around school or bring 3 dc!

minniemummy - try a different group - there are loads I only went to once or twice; you have to persevere to find a nice one.

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 10/02/2009 21:54

poledra - can Orlaith have a word with Bethany about sleeping?

Jodie - I was thinking about all the others too today (spooky) guess theya re just busy with their babies, I would go insane if I didn't have MN, even a 10 min lurk during the day is essential!

minniemummy - groups can be so hard to break into, I agree with whoever said find a few see which ones suit you, sometimes I think it's unintentional to ignore a newbie as you can be self absorbed in a convo with your "friends" IYSWIM but they still should say hello, also some newbies come and go, I think you have to go 3-4 times to each to make up your mind what ones you like.

redsalamander - I am confused now who are you? I thought you were butterfly/otter/ria parkinson now realised you are not

disney - I think it's hormonal always wanting another one, I hate being pregnant, have nowhere to put another baby and a DP who might lose his job, another baby would be insane yet still I crave one, theres no hope for me really, I had hoped after B I would be cured of this mad broodiness.

M2L - sorry to say this but you sound a bit all over the place, firstly are you OK? Constipation is very common when they first go onto solids, my advice is just cut back on the solids for a few days, I don't mean give up completely or anything but just reduce quantity a little and BF loads, the BM should get things going a bit, then start to gradually up the solids again, if she hasn't been for a poo in about 4 days call your HV for advice or see your GP. Eczema - which creamds you applying? If DD2 gets bad I have to go full blown as I call it, hydrocortisone twice a day and diprobase too, and her usual bath stuff. Usually we get away with just Diprobase once a day, bath stuff and shampoo once a week. If the creams aren't working, go back to you GP try other ones I think it's a case of trial and error.

So when was your last AF? When did you do your PG test? How far on do you think you are? Remember no two pregnancies are exactly alike and pains at the start are common, it's everything starting to grow.

Everything else OK here, Bethany had baby corn tonight for the first time loved it, her hand coordination is coming on in leaps and bounds, she is funny trying to pick up her cup she cannot do it at all yet. We started breakfasts this week, going slowly, she sneezed weetabix all over my face today though, oh the joys.

libralady · 10/02/2009 21:55

Thanks to those who missed me. Sorry I just don;t have the time to post now. I do try to skim read the thread but only really manage about once a week and by the time I've caught up I've run out of time to post.

Work is crap and I hate it. TBH, I can't wait to leave now. I am now wearing 3 hats and only getting paid for the one. God knows how they are going to cope when they lose half the UK staff (not meaning to sound like I am indispensible) but I'm sure it would not be expected of the staff overseas.

Oh and Luke finally cut his first tooth today which was such a surprise as we've had none of the usual preludes to teething.

Is there anyone is North Wales able to keep me posted about the weather in Snowdonia. We're coming up for 1/2 term week next week and are already replanning the way we get there as I think our usual route is going to be hampered by snow and flood water. Not even sure if we'll be able to get over the Severn Bridge!

disneystar · 11/02/2009 07:09

libra the bridge was ok yesterday my dh used it.......
he also travels to wales a lot il ask him,il get a driver report from one of the others today for you

JODIEhadtoomanymincepies · 11/02/2009 10:16

ponto · 11/02/2009 10:45

Jodie, try to focus on the positives - you can go to the loo by yourself!

Bryony has found a whole new area of my clothing to puke on now she's in the backpack not the sling...nice.

JODIEhadtoomanymincepies · 11/02/2009 11:23

Ponto I know! I've just has a cup of tea and some toast that I dodn't have to share!!!! AND I get to surf the web without peppa pig on in the back ground!

Poledra · 11/02/2009 11:56

Ohhh, was the tea warm and the toast hot, Jodie? [wistful emoticon]

Poledra · 11/02/2009 11:57

Aaaargh! Tea hot and toast warm, I mean

JODIEhadtoomanymincepies · 11/02/2009 12:07

P is very long too whoever mentioned it! on the 50th centlie but on 25th for weight. Her arms aren't long either I usually have to roll sleeves up. It is so frustrating coz she is out of trousers lengthways way before they are too tight round her middle! And t-shirts etc barely meet her trousers even ehen she still has bags of room left IYSWIM!

Having a fun time with P sleeping at the moment. She will only settle & fall asleep if she pulls something over her face, blanket, toy, muslin...cot bumper!! I got her up from nap yesterday & she was diagonal accross cot with the bumper pulled up over her face & her head pressed against the bars! Little monkey...in the morning when I went into her she was on her front in her sleeping bag crawling (trying to) up the cot, she was very pleased with herself...I didn't think they were supposed to be able to do that in a sleeping bag?! I just don't know what to do bout her grabbing stuff & putting it on her face, am terrified she will suffocate but she does it all the time until she falls asleep, should I give her her comforter & go in & retrieve it when she is asleep?

Got physio today & hopefully gonna try driving....eeek!!

Isaidno · 11/02/2009 13:25

bebe - poppy likes to go to sleep with a soft toy, or a bit of blanket shoved right up against her face. I move it away a bit once she's gone to sleep, but tbh they should be strong enough to move their head away if they needed to.

jodie - am almost of your me time at work!

JODIEhadtoomanymincepies · 11/02/2009 16:40

Isaidno I make a crap housewife and get very impatient with the boys and end up shouting. I'm in awe of all you SAHM's. I wish I could do it, but I'd end up on assault charges!

Day went well, didn't get much done, but have all day tomorrow to catch up!

bebejones · 11/02/2009 19:15

It isn't so much having it against her face as completely on top of her head & face!!! Will try giving her comforter!

Mummywannabe · 11/02/2009 20:17

Jodie - your description of work has cheered me up, going back in 3 weeks and feeling very very sad about it.

My little monster is on 98th centile for height and 50th for weight. He has long arms and body and short legs (just like his dad!)

Pronto - know text was ages ago about olbus oil on tissue in cot. Reminded me of a friend whoes son ate a tissue covered in vicks in the night (think he was only 7mths at time). Not suggesting you were not being careful but wanted to warn others (he is the only child i know who has ever managed this!)

Anyone got any suggestions for nappies at night - DS manages to wet through to his sheets twice a week at least. Have tried changing him before i go to bed but he's not that wet at that time. I've tried pampers and huggies baby dry

Isaidno · 11/02/2009 20:28

mummywannabe - have you tried using the next size up of nappy? I found tesco to be the most reliable with the ds. I'm using washables now with dd and never had a prob but perhaps she is not a heavy wetter.

Mummywannabe- Ive actually found that Sainsburys own have been the best overnight ones for Abigail. We too had the same problem that her babygrow and sleeping bag were rather damp in th morning!

Bebe- Quite often Abigail will grab her muslin cloth and hold in over her face. Looks like shes trying to suffocate herself! She usually gradually brings in down but if not once shes asleep I just lower it. Like others say shes old enough now to move it away herself.

Took Abigail to a new soft play centre thats recently opened with a friend and her 7mth old. Its fab, so nice and clean, the staff are whizzing around with hand held hoovers and very friendly. So different to the norm! Fab price too. For under 1's its 2 hours for the price of 1 - they then can have a nap/feed if needed. So 2 hours is £1.50! Bargin.
Abigail loved the special baby bit with soft play blocks, mini slides and funny mirrors. Ventured into the under 4's bit and explored the ball pool. Abigail and her friend enjoyed it but think us mummys had the most fun!
Think I might take DH at the weekend as hes the biggest kid going!!

Feels like ive been back at work this afternoon! Ive been helping a friend with her coursework as shes doing the same Diploma I did. Its been quite good using the old grey matter again! Its been about 8mths since the cogs turned!

Mummywannabe · 11/02/2009 20:52

Thanks isaidno - use tesco's in the day (have no idea why we don;t use them at night too!) He's already in size 4, but might try a 5.

Pigley - will get some sainsbury's ones too, am willing to try anything

Not done soft play with DS yet, might give this a go, never really thought about it at this age but he would love it!

Still doing my degree although not sure my grey matter is still working! Its so hard to focus but determined to finish, been doing it for 5 years (OU part time) so have been studying since i met DH! Poor man its a wonder he married me as i ignore him for large sections of the week to study. Perhaps he likes the peace !

Hello all, I am back at work and quite liking it at the moment it's not very hectic so I spend a lot of time drinking tea and surfing the internet. I hate A going to nursery in the morning but once he has gone with DH and I start getting ready for work it's like I snap into a different person and I don't really miss him when I'm at work, but I am lucky in that I only have to work 3 days a week.

mummywannabe, we use tesco ultra-dry and they are fab.
