bebe, leah has that, and she gets lots of gunk and has got medicine 4 times, 5 time now..been refered to a specialist.

my hv, told me to go gp and get a referal asap, and forist gp ignored but after goin in for medicine again, they finnaly refered her, waitin for hosp appointment.

bebejones · 22/01/2009 18:28

m2l, have they said what it is? Just don't want her to damage her eyes?

Isaidno · 22/01/2009 19:46

I doubt the doc would do anything unless she was getting infected eyes almost constantly.

Poledra, Bryony is a nipple grabber too, it is excruciatingly painful isn't it?

SK sorry to hear about your awful day, I sympathise about the cat sick and poo, we have days when the dog does similar, I have walked into the house and burst into tears in the past!

bebe if her eyelashes seem to be irritating her then I think that would be a reason to get a referral, but if she's not bothered by it I suspect your GP will advise you to wait and see if it clears up.

Went to Ikea this evening to get a sofa for the new playroom (I can hear the bangs of dh erecting it in the other room... I should go and help but I'm much too busy doing important MNing ). As we ate there, I picked up a couple of jars of free baby food and Bryony wolfed down some quite lumpy vegetable lasagne. I think she doesn't like savoury stuff if it's too smooth - last night she was having carrot, leek and potato puree and wouldn't touch it until I cut up some of my pasta and put it in her bowl too. She's not really chewing but she moves it around her mouth and swallows it.

While we're on the subject of baby equipment, one thing I found very useful with dd2 and have just started using for Bryony is a hipseat. It's great as you can comfortably carry the baby one-handed and leaves your other hand free for holding onto a toddler. I'm using it on the school run as Bryony is quite a lump now and holding her for any length of time gives me a sore arm.

libralady, sorry things are so hard at the moment. I'm not looking forward to going back to work in 3 months, I don't know how I'll manage to keep on top of things at home, I can't do that now and I'm here the whole time.

TJuice · 22/01/2009 22:28

hi ladies

well, hump with dh is over after he left me a note and i emailed him and then we had a long talk. the problem is that now he is a doctor, he is getting delusions of grandeur! haha, no seriously, he is getting much more "authoritative" at work as his confidence and experience grows but he must remember that at home we are equal and he can leave that attitude behind.

we went to dinner at a friends in sweden tonight which was nice but a bit of trek home (an hour on the train). elodie played with my friends girls and had a bath and then bed in her massive pram but decided to wake up on the way home. dh is giving her a little warm milk now just to get her down again.

ponto - i went to ikea yesterday! i only went to the kiddie department, can you believe it. i just got a duvet and cover, some pillows, a highchair and some bowls and bibs. i bought a rug but will return it. i am over the sleeping bag thing now . . .its just much cosier for her now and she can kick it off and roll so i guess the overheating/smothering thing is not a problem now, right?

mama2leah · 23/01/2009 09:46

no they havent sed what it is but her eyes get gunk alot..and they cnt keep giving her medicines.

are any of u gusy givin ur busb vitamins drops? my hv adviced it, afetr alot of kids have been vitamin d and calcium and iron deficint, and jsu breastfeed.

Greatsweetkittyothepuddingrace · 23/01/2009 10:20

Morning all mega busy day yesterday don't think I posted don't want you all thinking something is wrong as I didn't post

M2L - what is your HV on? Seriously I sometimes wonder what planet most HVs come from, I avoid mine like the plague, breastmilk contains enough calcium and vitamin D, there are some reports that BF babies need extra iron after 6 months as BF is lower in iron than formula BUT the iron in BM is more readily accessible to the baby. If you think about it if BM was deficient in all these things how come it done babies just fine for thousands of years? At the moment Bethany (nearly 6 1/2 months) has lunch and dinner with us, I will start giving her breakfast oh about 7 and a bit months (it means more time in the morning and as you can imagine it's hard enough getting out with 3), yesterday she had a yoghurt and some rice cakes for lunch, then pureed carrot, parsnips and lentils for dinner and broccoli florets which she made a right old mess with but loved.

Poledra - it is DD2's 3rd birthday on Monday too I am a bad Mummy as I have bought a cake (Toy Story) and am not having a party, we are having the outlaws for a birthday tea on Sunday then nursery will have a wee thing for her on Monday and we are taking her to soft play.

Isaidno - I thought the same thing about the necklaces, bit pricey might find something upstairs instead.

Tjuice - glad you got things sorted with DH, I think it's inevitable that when one of you gives up work to look after DC the balance of your relationship shifts and it takes a while for you both to adjust. I am lucky DP has always been great about me not working, he fully supported me giving up work and we have never had an issue with money i.e. he earns it, I spend it I look at being at home more like my job and if he ever said anything Iwould say OK I go to work you cna pay childcare! Also a few days alone with the DDs reminds him of how hard it is.

pigley - happy half birthday Abigail hope the house thing goes OK for you too v stressful I know

bebe/M2L - B had conjunctivitis a few times I don't know if that is the same thing??? Some antibacterial eye drops did the trick though.

ponto - I love Ikea I am eyeing up new toy storage in there just now, I would love a playroom but this house isn't that big although we have a huge living room/dining room it still would be ncie to have aone room for the DDs, would love to build an extension but right now finances wouldn't.

Right best be off have done nothing in here this morning and we are off to a new toddler group this afternoon.

mama2leah · 23/01/2009 11:10

my sil kids is vitamin d, calcium and iron problems, fully bf...hmmm

thepuddingchef · 23/01/2009 12:36

Hello...just had a catch up on thread.
Sweetkitty I had to laugh at you cat issues....I thought it was just me who had problems with mixing kids and cats. They used to be my obsession until I had dc's, now they are a pain in the arse!
I got very excited this morning as I had a delivery of some new nappies....(getting slightly obsessed) I got a couple of Motherease one size....pink and a wonderoo in pink also....soooooo cute!!! Meg just looks adorable in the wonderoo, I think I might be a pocket nappy convert!
Tjuice - my dh thinks I sit on my arse all day and that childcare is easy...left him on mon eve for the first time on his own (i'm doing a first aid course) He went to bath William, Meg then decided she was hungry, crying at full volume, William gets upset at noise, dh trys to feed Meg in tiny bathroom, shes so upset at this point she won't stop crying even for milk, William gets so upset he's sick in bath, has to put Meg down to get Will out of bath, he sick down his back, then on the landing carpet, meg still crying at this point...I felt a little guilty that the dc's had to go thro this, but dh's attitude has changed somewhat
He's got another 5 evenings to cover!
Hope everyone has had a good week.

Greatsweetkittyothepuddingrace · 23/01/2009 14:51

puddingchef - that is EXACTLY how I feel, The cats have never pooed in the house so I don't know what was going on the other day. However, they drive me nuts, I spend a lot of time clearing up after them sometimes I think they are worse than the kids. Sometimes I think DHs need time like what you described just to appreciate how hard it is.

cass66 · 23/01/2009 15:47

Hi all. I get fed up when hubby gets home and says he's been working really hard all day, he's not stopped. I say, 'so have I', just to remind him this is MY work (in 10days it will be my SECOND job!!)

Re sticky eyes. often when babes get a cold their tear ducts (very small hole in the middle corner of their eyes) get blocked, so they get sticky eyes. it usually goes when the cold goes, they don't always need drops.

bebej/m2l - if their eyelashes stick up, you could try putting a bit of tape on the skin below their eye to gently pull the eyelid down a bit. might be a silly idea, but might work if done at night???? just thinking laterally. they'll probably grow out of it.

TJuice · 23/01/2009 16:57

well, i went to music class with elodie today and got over myself about looking like an arse and just sang away and did all the silly movements. she just sat there shaking a small tambourine but i think she got a kick out of it.

also met a nice scots woman and had coffee with a german girl, so it was pretty social too. i do get fed up with mum talk sometimes though and i am facing more of it tonight.
my friend and baby are coming over because our husbands are working late. i actually fancied an evening to myself but she invited herself so what can you do? once i have a glass of wine, i'll probably get into it . . .

Isaidno · 23/01/2009 18:56

disney - got the po today, but I have to confess I forgot to take your parcel to town with me - I will DEF DEF DEF post it on Monday x sorry x

puddingchef - are you becoming a nappy addict? I've just bought a Blueberry minky wrap - so soft and gorgeous. Yum! I am getting fond of pockets too, just got a swaddlebees and an itti bitti d'lish - both nice and teeny so Poppy could wear trousers (except i love dressing her up in frocks!)

tjuice - hope you have a nice time tonight - I'm sure the wine will help!!! I used to take the 2 DS to a sing and sign session and they were completely nonplussed by the singing.

OP posts:
bebejones · 24/01/2009 10:04

Spoke to doctor about Phoebe's eyelashes. He said it was called something...I cant remember....but basically the skin on her lower eyelids is too tight and that is what is forcing the eyelashes upwards. (Just what I had thought TBH) 98% of the time it does sort itself out & in the meantime just to bathe her eyes frequently with clean water to prevent infection & soothe them a bit. He said they wouldn't try & correct them til she is 18months-2 years because thats how long they usually take to sort themselves out on their own & surgery is a last resort!! Feel releived to know now...bit silly coz it seems so trivial!

Gave P a rice cake yesterday...she LOVED it, once she worked out what to do with it!

Libralovesbiscuits1975 · 24/01/2009 11:05

I am going to sing and sign and I have to say as much as I didn't use to like (pre-baby when I had a life) organised activities like that it is quite fun, but that might be because it's hilarious watching 8 8 month olds racing around the circle paying absolutely no attention to the singing or the signing but more intent on poking each othe in the face. A is too young to crawl so just sits there grinning manically at the teacher (which he does to all women).

bebe - glad your GP listened and talked you thru the problem, of course you are not silly worrying about your LO that's what Mums are suppose to do! For breakfast I stole an idea from another site which is carb+fruit. So this morning he had weetabix and 2 slices of kiwi (we are doing BLW). Yesterday he had porridge and some clementine segments.

tjuice - enjoy your wine, the only thing on my to do list today is buy wine! (ok not the only thing but the only important thing!)

the puddingchef - you just made me lol with your description of DH trying to look after the kids!

pigley - how did negotiations go? Also I have one of those aquapod seats, I find it helpful but DH hates it.

I love Ikea - can't wait for the new one to open in Southampton!

I am slowly going nuts today, DH is on nights so is asleep AND I WANT TO DO SOMETHING but I just don't know what. A is really too young to do something with such as BirdWorld if you know what I mean and I think I will SCREAM if I go for another walk.

bebejones · 24/01/2009 19:01

Gosh it's quiet on here today! Need some food advice from you clever lot...DH seems concerned about the 'looseness' of P's poos (TMI sorry) since we started on solids. He has a tendancy to over exaggerate, and I thought they were fairly normal, if perhaps more frequent on occasions & she seems fine in all other respects. But he has now really worried me by saying that we have started her on solids too soon and we are making her ill (She is 24 weeks), she was 'ready' for food in my opinion, she would swipe at food we had, watched intently when we were eating & even started doing goldfish impersonations!! I am now really worried but don't know if maybe it's just the carrot she has had the last few days...she was fine with banana & apple. Root veg does make most ppl poop more right?!?! Also when can they have yoghurts/fromage frais, the labels say 4-6 months but all the literature I have read says defo not before 6 months?! And how much should she actually be eating, & how many times a day?! I am so confused & feeling very on edge about the whole thing & desperately don't want P to pick up on it as she is coming on leaps & bounds with it all, DH has really knocked my confidence with it all & I am really starting to question my mummy instincts on this one!

OMG I really am turning into a neurotic mother!

On a brighter note, just gave P her bath in new aquapod & she loved it...lots of splashy splashy!! Sorry to rant on a bit, sometimes I think all I do on here is ask questions & moan! Just feel very on my own with it all sometimes, & DH does tend to let me make ALL the decisions with no help from him at all!

cass66 · 24/01/2009 19:15

Is she ill, or is she just loose? sounds totally normal to me. is she bottle or breast fed?? any change in diet can make babies (and adults) loose. don't worry!!

RE dairy (yogs/fromage frais, cheese etc), the advice is not until after 6 months due to the risk of precipitating allergy/eczema etc. same with gluten containing foods (wheat based things, so bread, pasta tortillas etc).

Basically only fruit and veg and rice until 6 months, after then anything except nuts and honey. Oh and you can use cows milk to put in food, but not as their main source of milk until over 1.

Does that help??? Don't fret, motherhood comes with guilt attached! Cass

TJuice · 24/01/2009 19:40

bebe - e had loose poos a bit at the beginning. as cass says it is prolly just her digestive system adjusting to new things. don't doubt yourself, sounds more like your dh is the neurotic one.

also, i am no expert but start off with one meal a day at lunch and then go from there. there's no hurry if they are drinking milk. i also wondered about amount as elodie hardly ate anything at the beginning and my dh looked in his pediatric books and it said something like 4 teaspoon fulls at around 6 or 7 months i think. but just play it by ear.

we are 3 meals a day now and its a pain in the ass. sometimes she has a lot and sometimes only a bit. i probably overdo it though - i offer some savoury puree, some fingerfood and fruit puree most of the time.

pigley - saw your (gorgeous) pic of A on facebook beautiful baby competition and decided to enter E too! can't believe the hair on A! she's so dainty.

well, felix da housecat is playing here tonight and we have no money, no babysitter and no energy. officially had our day.

TJuice · 24/01/2009 19:41

also, can't loose poos be teething?

elodie got her first tooth today

pigleychez · 24/01/2009 20:42

Hello all,

puddingchef- Glad Dh got a taste of real motherhood!

Bebe- Glad you got some anwers about Phoebes eyelashes. Abigail has some loose ones which tend to coinside with when shes teething, I wouldnt worry too much if she seems well in herself.

Libra- Thanks for asking about the negotiations. They are all on hold at the mo as the guy flys- We live near Gatwick airport- and is away till monday. Our estate agent is going to chase him monday to see if hes willing to up his offer. Fingers crossed.

Tjuice- Thanks for the comments on Abigails picture I did some more arty ones now shes 6mths and uploaded them to my profile.. Im actually really pleased with them
Yay on the tooth- Abigails been teething for ages and we keep thinking ones coming but nothing yet!

libralady · 24/01/2009 22:25

Libra

Whereaboutds are you then? I too am waiting for Ikea to open in Southampton.

The council have however put advance notice of severe queues around West Quay for 6 weeks after it's opening though.

At the moment I travel to the one in Bristol, so can't come soon enough for me.

Libralovesbiscuits1975 · 24/01/2009 22:35

Libralady am in Farnham so about 10 minutes away from M3. How about you?
Thanks for the heads up about the queues!

Minkus · 25/01/2009 10:01

Hey everyone

sorry not logged on for ages, glad to see all of you and lo's are doing well as far back as I can read!

pigley I can empathise with the house selling thing. Hope your negotiations go well. We are just about to put ours on the market, found the house of our dreams (a beautiful victorian red brick thing that needs sooooo much work- but we'd never have to move ever again and would struggle to find a purpose for all the rooms we'd have!) and have just got the HIP sorted so tomorrow we are officially trying to move!

Sleep is still a fondly remembered and desperately needed thing here but Louis is doing brilliantly otherwise, a happy little sunshine baby in the day just a tricky one at night! 28 ish weeks now, 3 meals a day getting on well with more textured stuff now and finger foods like rice cakes and pieces of bread.

But.....I am feeling really sick this morning, very very reminiscent of early pregnancy. [hmmm] Is this to do with the skinful of booze I had on Friday night? (Not that much surely, I was fine yesterday?) A lingering symptom of the tummy bug I had earlier in the week? The curry I troughed last night? Or something more life shatteringly unplanned? Maybe I will do a test if still feeling rotten tomorrow morning. But then all mornings are rotten, they blimmin well start too early after too little shut eye!

Have a good day all xx

MinnieMummy · 25/01/2009 15:56

Ah sleep... P seems to randomly be going either through the night or else (more usually) back to her usual waking at 2.30 am and then again at anywhere between 5 and 6. She doesn't eat much at either time so I am considering going on strike... hmmm. It's really getting to me as I've come down with another cold and a touch of tonsilitis... really need a good night's sleep!!
I too get annoyed with DH as if I say anything about being tired he's all 'oooh, me too, I didn't sleep very well' and I want to shout 'well did YOU have to feed her twice in the night/get up and change her when she decided to poop at 3am?? DID YOU??!'. Still I know he means well and hates his job so I just smile sweetly and shout it inside my head!!

Bebe think it is quite normal for the dads to just go along with what the mummies decide and for us to fret about whether or not we're making the right choices!! IME it's always the women who call the shots... which reminds me, I had a question but have totally forgotten it in the mummy fog... ah well...

I recommend hip seats too!
