Bit bored so thought I would start the new thread

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

5, oh, thanks for that ! Thought they would think it was too much of a pain! Anyway, not going to tell work as I don't want to do those hours - I would never be able to commit to anything if I did (classes, etc). I don't want to go back to work anyway so don't want to make it even more unpleasant for myself!

Neenz, I haven't worked at my current local authority long enough to qualify for mat pay (missed it by a week ), however I should still qualify for continuous service cos I worked for my previous LA for six years. BUT, I took a week off between employers and they're claiming that means a break in service! I have my union on the case cos I think (a) one week off is a ridiculous short time, (b) they should have warned me and (c) as a teacher in my previous job I had no choice about when I left that post.

So angry about it.

abdnhiker · 30/01/2009 20:55

sponge very frustrated on your behalf about mat pay! Hopefully your union can help you - I found just mentioning my union got things sorted a lot quicker when I had some issues a few years back. Good thought about classes too - that would be a real pain! I'm going back five mornings a week (I hope - it's still not approved) and I'll not be able to do any which is kind of a shame!

5gomad Fraser just got his teeth a couple weeks ago - but I think they can show up anytime between 4 and 10 months. A friend's first girl didn't get her's until around the 10 month mark.

Hmm, amber have you considered giving him HC cream on the sly? Send your DP in to buy it for you and use it very sparingly? I think you can buy it for adults without a prescription. I'd be tempted if the doctor was being an ijit.

spongebrainbigpants · 30/01/2009 21:01

Thanks AH, I'm a stubborn old cow and won't give up without a fight!

5, forgot to say - no teeth here! (Well, I have a full set obviously but Alex doesn't have any!). Also, four of the seven of our NCT babies don't have any so not unusual.

I've started a new thread:

naming ceremony

Would really appreciate opinions. Thanks.

Well I have made the most of my last day as a free woman. We went and had a photo shoot, just hope that we can persuade them to do some nice finance terms on the photos because they are really expensive.

Not much time to catch up and now need to find a way to change this new MN as I am not a fan (does that make me sound like an oldie?)

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/01/2009 21:27

Just thought I was the last.

A friend of mine lost his last milk tooth the day he joined the navy at 18 and his son got his first one at over a year. It is the sitting that is worrying me at the moment.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/01/2009 21:28

HH do you start work tomorrow?

MoooCow · 30/01/2009 21:30

Hi! Nice to be welcomed back guys
Deb - we have tried alsorts on the weaning front. Purees where a big no for a while, so the HV suggested finger food, she does enjoy playing with food, but as soon as it gets into her mouth she gags and is sick! Which I am assured is normal, but never the less quite hard going on both of us. We have had a recent breakthrough on pear though. If all else fails runny pear and baby rice seems to be the thing
Sponge - sorry to hear of work/care probs, Im in the middle of it myself at the mo, my work are fairly good, It's the other ladies in my Dept hat are being really hard(all have grown up kids but refuse to be flexible on days/hours even tho their contracted to do certain days, they have been there sice the year dot and won't budge!) Im also a bit nervous and unconvinced about my childminder. LO has been to her a few times for a couple of hours and seems fine, but im still not convinced its the right choice, but to be honest I cant afford nursery prices here(53 pound a day! iss that the norm?)
Whinegums- how are you and your LO, i remember you are my birthday buddy!
DP at he pub tonight so home alone with wine
Moving LO in with big sis tomorrow, any tips from other's who have sharers? Do the big kids tend to wake if the baby cries? We kind of figure it's got to happen some time, so why not now. Wish us luck!
Good Eve to you all. x

spongebrainbigpants · 30/01/2009 21:44

Moocow, that sounds about right for nursery .

5, have you mentioned your concerns re: sitting to the HV?

HH, can't wait to see the photos - KWYM about the cost though. We are sooo lucky cos my best mate's husband has just set up a photography business so we get professional piccies for free (the Christmas pics were all taken by him). Cos he's only just started he charges £200 for a photo shoot and you get to keep the CD of all of the photos.

If anyone lives Hampshire/Surrey/Berkshire way this is his website:

pleasechange · 30/01/2009 21:47

sponge sounds like they should definitely have warned you that it would be a break in service. Also agree a week sounds ridiculous

moocow that does sound hard going with the weaning. It's so frustrating when you've thought out what to eat for lunch/dinner and then they don't want any of it. In terms of nurseries, that cost is about the same as mine tbh - so expensive. Do you think you'll look for another cm?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/01/2009 21:48

My nursery is definitely not that, DS is £20 for 8 until 1 and I know the afternoon session is alot cheaper. Also try to get Tax credits for nursery, beacuse we earn £26 between us we get 80% of our nursery costs covered which is a huge help. They are both in th local Surestart Nursery which is great.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/01/2009 21:49

DD was £18 and has now gone down to £15 for the same time now she is in preschool.

DebInAustria · 30/01/2009 22:06

5 - 2 weeks ago Ethan was only just starting to sit up on my knee, but couldn't do it on his own, in the last few days he can now sit unaided for quite a while. When did Edie sit unaided?

as for teeth - neither Stefan or Tristan had 5 at this stage - it's ridiculously early and makes my precious last baby look too grown up.

Moocow - hope your dd progresses from the pear and baby rice soon. Is there anything specific about the childminder that doesn't seem right?
I have tried Ethan in with his brothers for a few nights now, he tends to have a sleepover on Friday and Saturday nights when they haven't got school the next day. sometimes they wake up, sometimes not.I haven't got an answer, I'd like him to have his own room but that would mean him being on a different floor to us and it feels too far away.

Sponge - I hope the Union come to your rescue. With the job, if you accepted those days you'd get a nice long weekend every other week.

HH - would love to see your photos when you get them, good luck going back to work, I think someone else was going back soon too.

Abdn - I used to work 5 mornings and I could still go to one toddler group in the afternoon and baby swimming.

Amber - so sorry to hear about Luke's poor face, looking forward to hearing how you get on with photograps, the Drs "arse" and the Diprobase cream.

DebInAustria · 30/01/2009 22:07

Busy weekend five? How many have you got in?

abdnhiker · 30/01/2009 22:13

Eek! We're only £34/day for a 9 hour day in nursery. I think that's typical for Aberdeen.

We had our boys in the same room before we moved house. DS1 never woke in the night but they did wake each other in the mornings...

Deb - nice to know someone's worked this pattern before! All my friends are three days a week and think I'm completely mad for agreeing to it!

DebInAustria · 30/01/2009 22:19

Sometimes it would have been nice to have a full day off but it was great to only have to leave the boys for a morning instead of a whole day. it worked for me.

DebInAustria · 30/01/2009 22:20

Abdn - lovely photos on yourprofile

neenztwinz · 30/01/2009 22:26

Luckily it is only £36 a day for nursery here (£72 for two babies tho!).

Sponge, good you have the union on your case. I have had two rucks with my employers over the past two years - I got £2k the first time and a £1.5k pay rise the second thanks to the NUJ. They should know not to mess with me! I thought it was three weeks to count as a break in service as that is what they make the casuals at our place do every year so that they don't have continuous service . Keep fighting and don['t let the bastards get away with it.

Rolf · 30/01/2009 23:14

Amber poor Luke. I hope he's feeling better soon. I took Thea to the GP about her rash as it was getting worse, and we've been given an antibiotic hydrocortisone cream which seems to be clearing it up. I have using that stuff on her though. The rash was about to open and I was getting worried about how easily it could become a bad infection if it wasn't cleared up quickly.

I have both girls asleep in our room upstairs. Poor DD1 isn't very well - she is feverish and says her mouth hurts. I have a feeling I'm not going to get much sleep. DS1 out at a sleepover and I'm very drippy and spend the night fretting about him.

Baby yoga is brilliant. I'd thoroughly recommend it. Very relaxing and lots of fun. Shame it's only a 4 week course but maybe we can find something else locally.

spongebrainbigpants · 30/01/2009 23:53

Btw, we badly need a new thread but I'm so sleep deprived I can't think of anything!

Someone be inspired please - look forward to seeing you all somewhere new tomorrow!

DebInAustria · 31/01/2009 08:19

something like - our lovely june 08 babies - rolling, sitting, weaning, babbling, teething and laughing.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 31/01/2009 08:29

Morning Deb we are guest free this weekend which is lovely, S woke at 6 so fed him and we all went back to sleep, I went and got Edie up and she was just coming out of her room, so she is dressed and we are all going swimming this morning and then walk and a pub lunch tomorrow.

spongebrainbigpants · 31/01/2009 08:58
