Wow - what huge changes paro! I hope you're excited about the move! And I love the expression "pebbledash", it paints the perfect picture! Hope Fleur is feeling okay tonight!

DebInAustria · 28/01/2009 21:56

Wow Paro , how exciting- is your dh from there? What a change, but you sound happy about it.

Rolf - That is soooo funny

Abdn - it's so lovely that Duncan( did I make that up or is that right?) was worried about Fraser.I remember just how it was when Tristan was born, Stefan ignored him for quite some time, and only ever referred to him as the baby. Now they are so close and such good friends.

5 - we've got b+b guests here for 3 nights and what a faff, I'm so used to doing apartments!! And I don't even do cooked breakfast. How do you cope, especially with not much sleep?

hello to everyone else, haven't tried swings yet Amber, ours is away due to snow, but we have a door bouncer which you could make higher and use that I suppose. E loves it when he's in the right mood and does beautiful pirouettes

MoooCow · 28/01/2009 23:05

Hi

MoooCow · 28/01/2009 23:51

Hi, Me again, gatecrashing! I was under the name of fungle when pregnant, and did dip in and out of discussions. Have been following the thead vaugley and quite randomly. Just thought Id say hi to all! My DD is 7 months now, we are having big probs with solids? She is v unkeen. All good elsewhere tho, sitting alone very well, still dosnt like to roll tho! Hope everyone is well xx

abdnhiker · 29/01/2009 08:04

Deb - yes it's Duncan who's being so good with his brother right now!

5gomad - meant to say last night that your description of changing a wriggly toddler brought a smile to my face - I totally used to sit on Duncan's arms and change him from upside down!

MoooCow - welcome back. There's quite a few of us struggling with solids so you're in good company!.

abdnhiker · 29/01/2009 08:33

oh and no repeat on the sleeping through - Fraser was up at 2am as normal!

DebInAustria · 29/01/2009 09:27

snap Abdn - it was a one off for Ethan too

Hi moocow, is your dd refusing purees or finger foods?or both? I am spoon feeding but when the going gets tough, a piece of rice cake, banana, bread etc... tends to distract him enough to get some more in! I try not to worry too much as he's still taking enough milk. It will happen one day!

I don't know how Five does it. I only have 6 in for B+B, I'm knackered. Didn't help that Nigel was skiing with the boys this morning with school so apart from collecting the bread he was out of the equation, so I did breakfast with Ethan on one hip.The very nice German guest offered to help out tomorrow so that I didn't have to set the table etc...I reassured her that it will be fine tomorrow as there will be 2 of us on hand!Thankfully he's asleep now so I could get the rooms cleaned in peace.

AliandHerScallywag · 29/01/2009 09:38

weirdly I am currently trying to feed Peter without him going to sleep so that he will sleep in the car shortly. It's not working. Bad night last night he woke 4 times between 12 and 6. It is possible to die of sleep deprivation isn't it?

whinegums · 29/01/2009 09:43

Hi all. Amazing - B only woke up for one feed last night! He woke up again an hour after that, so I brought him into bed with me and we slept til 8am. I've started taking him to bed for a 2 hour nap in the afternoon, and I think that's definitely working (and I am loving an afternoon nap too). Was especially appreciated as I'd had a lovely night out with my friends and the wine had been flowing.

I actually am starting to feel that he might even sleep through at some point.

How are those of you bf managing with incoming teeth? B only has one, and it's not even all the way through, but by God, I can feel it when I feed him. He's not biting, he's always 'clamped' himself on, but I can't imagine what this will be like when he gets a few more gnashers. Any advice gratefully received.

Hi MoooCow, nice to see you dropping in.

Paro, that is exciting about your move. I thought about you yesterday when I was in Monsoon and saw 'your' dress.

Deb, I don't know how you or 5 do it to be honest. I only have one baby, and I can just about look after us.

Hello to everyone else, and sorry if I've forgotten anyone!

DebInAustria · 29/01/2009 09:43

don't think so Ali - it just feels like you're dying!

DebInAustria · 29/01/2009 09:48

whinegums - Ethan has almost 5 teeth through now, when he feeds normally I can tell they are there but it doesn't hurt, it's just different BUT when he's had enough or he's distracted then he does bite and OMG it hurts. It doesn't happen every feed by any means, maybe once every couple of days and usually the mid afternoon feed when there's lots going on. I get a finger in quick, take him off, say a stern "no" and sit him up.

spongebrainbigpants · 29/01/2009 10:49

Ali, I was asking the exact same question this morning!

A came in with me at 12.30am and he snored all night while I lay wide awake next to him - I gave up and put him back in his cot at 6am () where he promptly woke up so I brought him back in with me until 8am.

I feel like I'm living in a fog .

Cute older brother stories - bless 'em .

Hello Moocow, love the new name!

pleasechange · 29/01/2009 11:00

Hi all - havn't posted for a while now as we've all been ill here . Whatever bug A had last weekend, DH and myself had caught it by Monday and it was pretty bad. Felt pretty pathetic that it knocked me for six, yet A had remained on relatively good form throughout! They really are more hardy than we think sometimes

Enjoyed reading the posts re lovely things about our babies. I'm loving A's loud belly laugh at the minute, it's the cutest thing I've ever heard

amber that's a good idea about the swings, I think I'll bring A to the park tomorrow for a go

I only have 4 more days as a SAHM

Hi moocow/fungle!

ahedgehogisHibernating · 29/01/2009 12:18

afternoon all,

Making the most of my last days of ML, and have had all the NCT girls over for playing this morning - absolute mayhem.

May be a new position on the job front. The other part time person at work (has a 11 mo) is currently doing 5 days 9 - 2 and wants to change it to 2.5 days, so we are going to have a chat about job share when I go back. It would be lovely to have that oportunity.

Hope people that aren't feeling well feel better soon, Isaac is very snotty and keeps blowing snot bubbles on me while he is feeding.

paro sounds exciting, can't imagine moving house, let alone country with a baby. Good Luck

DebInAustria · 29/01/2009 12:46

HH - job share sounds great

ahedgehogisHibernating · 29/01/2009 13:02

Am not going to get my hopes up, but will talk to DH about it tonight

AliandHerScallywag · 29/01/2009 15:40

Hello Moocow. Nice to see you.

Paro - wow v exciting about your move to the Netherlands. Will you be sad to leave GC or ready for the change? What is your Dutch like? With the wedding 2009 is going to be another big year for you.

HH fingers crossed about the job share. That would be great for you from what you have said.

Just got back from a colleague's who is also on ML. Her DS is 6 months and has 7 teeth!

Allnew sorry to hear about the bug. It is especially grim with a baby whose demands continue as normal isn't it.

mellymell · 29/01/2009 19:44

Hi all.

A quick question about solids.

I breed giants and so started DS2 on solids from 4 months. I am very lucky and he will eat anything - he resembles a hungry chick - his mouth continually open and when he doesn't get food, he rants loudly !

Anyway, since I started solids early, I was wondering whether anyone else had started giving their little ones yoghurt. I know you're supposed to wait till 1 year, but mine is eating anything and everything, pooing like a pro and obviously has a pretty robust system. What do you think?

Otherwise, 2009 is looking up. Think I have finally come to an agreement with my previous employers about a redudancy settlement - phew - has been rather tricky doing negotiations with 2 under 2.5 making a racket at my feet. Luckily it's made me increasingly stroppy which has helped me encourage them to increase the settlement until, to quote my mother, I made their pips squeak. .

parofleurmapu · 29/01/2009 20:03

Well Fleur was fine all night, ate breakfast and had milk at nursery but then threw up lunch?! So far baby rice i gave her for tea (decided on bland food) and bedtime milk has stayed now If it continues tomorrow we will go to drs

Yep am excited by move. It was a tough decision but you guys know what a year we had , so we just want to be closer to family and as this is an island there is not much to do, expensive to leave and food is expensive too as most of it is imported. I will be sad to go ive been here 19 yrs and consider myself more spanish then english really.
Dp is dutch and i understand loads of dutch but have to work on my speaking side
i am ready for a change though and think we have to do it as we are family now and have other priorities

Hi Moo cow nice to see you

Melly- yogs are fine its only cows milk as an actual drink that should be avoided til they are one

HH glad bout work prospects

Allnew - at you being better now

debs we can swap moving tips!!!

Ali think ill curl up and die with you!!!! Im sooooooo tired right now that im having baked beans and cheese for dinner!!1

oooh whinegums youve seen the dress in the flesh before me!!!

pleasechange · 29/01/2009 20:24

paro missed that you were moving. Didn't realise you'd been there so long. My sis was telling me recently how expensive food was on her hol . Hope Fleur is feeling better soon

A is hardly eating at all, and will only have bread or pureed apple. Am so as he was doing so well before he took ill. I'm hoping it's just because he's recovering and not a permanent thing! Made him a lovely fresh pasta sauce this eve and he wasn't impressed at all. He has perfected the pursed lips and turned up nose

DH was telling his mum about this and she advised to give him a rich tea biscuit . She's the one who's a HV, who wanted me to wean early and who was surprised I didn't give him any chocolate at xmas!

HH job share sounds great, fingers crossed for you

bitofadramaqueen · 29/01/2009 20:54

Quick post - off to London for a wedding tomorrow so frantically trying to get things done.

S has yoghurt all the time.

Sorry to hear about teething pains (for the mums) and sleepless nights. I have no idea how people manage two kids, never mind run a b&b or a guest house. My house is a complete midden and I'm drowning in a never ending list of things to do.

allnew am sure the feeding will get better.

Oh and fellow scabby hand folk, my hands are sooooooo much better after only a day or two of the prescription cream. It's made a huge difference. Deb where do you buy gloves from when your hands are playing up? I'd quite like to get some thin ones for cleaning etc to minimise future contact with detergents as the doc says that I'll probably be stuck with this 'sensitivity' from now on.

Got to dash, sorry not to 'say' hello to anyone else.

Amberc · 29/01/2009 21:16

these are the latex gloves cleaners use gloves

FiveGoMadInDorset · 29/01/2009 21:42

Mellymell DS has yoghurt and so did DD before a year.

DebInAustria · 29/01/2009 22:09

Mellymell -Ethan has yoghurt too, can't find baby ones here , so he has natural yoghurt or Topfen (which is like fromage frais but nicer)mixed with fruit puree. Love the desctiption of your ds as a hungry chick

Paro - hope Fleur is Ok. Do you have property to sell in GC before you move? Where will you be moving to in the Netherlands?

Allnew - my tip is don't make anything new until normal eating is resumed. Just go back to basics. It can be disheartening if you've cooked specially. I made a batch of liver yesterday, and Ethan's not keen, which is a shame as I have pots ful of it!! He did eat some on bread today like pate I suppose!

BDQ - I don't clean anything without rubber gloves or latex gloves (like Amber linked to) on. I have handcream in every room and hope for the best but they still flare up at times.Your sentence - "My house is a complete midden and I'm drowning in a never ending list of things to do." - that could be me. Obviously the apartments and communal areas are clean and tidy but our house is a tip, I cannot keep on top if it all however hard I try and my list of jobs to do is endless too.My huge worry is that now we're on the market - how will I get it turned around if the agent calls with a prospective buyer in 1 hour? That is my worst nightmare.Coming on MN is my time, social life is minimal so I need this time on here. I don't know where to find any more time.Tonight I have ironed until now 11.00pm, guest bedding is up to date and my ironing basket is empty BUT everywhere needs cleaning, our beds need changing, etc etc etc... OMG, I think I'd better go to bed, I'm depressing myself.Sorry BDQ and to anyone else who has read this !Hope the wedding goes well.

AliandHerScallywag · 29/01/2009 22:15

Allnew - a friends baby who had a tummy upset for the previous few days and had eaten no solids grabbed a rich tea biscuit and ate it when I visited the other day. You never know, maybe she is onto something after all. Personally I wouldn't feed rich tea biscuits to a dog they are vile.

Back tomrrow, going to try for some sleep now... sigh
