So how is it going for everyone? Most of us have had our babies so how was the first few weeks?

I had my postnatal check yesterday and Sylvia's 2 month jabs. She's still only 4.54 kg but fine otherwise and the doctor didn't seem concerned that she'd only put on 3oz in the past week.

I've joined WeightWatchers and\have lost 4 lb in one week. Many, many more to go still.

I was thinking the other day, is anyone else in London?

Sylvia\ is still mostly grumpy although she smiles occasionally. She should do it more often, her whole face lights up. She's a placid, easy baby. Strange to have both placid and grumpy in a baby, but she's both.

Pidge · 30/04/2005 21:21

On the poo front - I was once told that it was ok for a breastfed baby to go for a week or two without pooing, as the milk is so tailored to them that there often isn't much waste. Having said that Iris is a poo champion! My older dd is often heard to comment "She's doing a monster poo again mummy", as the little one goes into bright red grunting mode!

My dp kindly pointed out that I'm a good two inches off getting into pre-pregnancy trousers. Last time round I was back in my jeans at 5 weeks. Humbug. Mind you I am scoffing cakes and chocolate like someone intent on becoming the size of a house. Annoyingly my pregnancy clothes don't really fit either - so I'm living in one pair of jeans and having to go into tracksuit trousers when the jeans are in the wash! It's not doing much for my image I can tell you.

Feeling so much more in control of my life now that both dd1 and baby are going down to sleep at 7pm. It's amazing what a difference that has made - I still can't believe we've managed it this early. And Iris is happier during the day now too. I'm sure 90% of her screaming was just exhaustion and not knowing how to put herself to sleep.

Speaking of sleep - am going to slope off and grab some!

3mummy · 01/05/2005 18:40

Hi everyone,

Does anyone else have a baby that loves to be held and wants to be held all the time? Faith is getting very tired during the day and will only sleep in someones arms, I keep putting her down somewhere when she's asleep but within 5mins she seems to know she's not being held and is screaming. I know it sounds awful but I even left her to cry on one occasion to see if she would tire herself out and drop off - but she just kept on screaming!

I only seem to have a problem with this at weekends as in the week she sleeps every time we go out in the car for the school runs. I love cuddling her and would sit with her in my arms all day if I didn't have a house, two other children and a hubby to look after and spend time with. To be honest I did exactly that with DD1 and it was heaven, I spent everyday cuddled up with her, BF whenever she needed, and spent hours talking to her while DH was at work . I still let a lot of the housework etc slip so I can spend lots of time with Faith - she's very alert now and is starting to make cooing noises - just the cutest thing in the world!

Hope you can offer some advice, all offers greatly recieved!!

3mummy · 01/05/2005 18:41

Sorry should read "greatfully"

popsycal · 01/05/2005 19:06

or 'gratefully'

harry was the same and still is to an extent...but if e falls asleep in my arms he will stay asleep when transferred to cars saet, bouncy chair or baby carrier....

Kieran is good most of the time, but like Faith he seems to want physical contact more and more and does not seem to want to settle on his own.

His daddy is taking him for walks, and this seems to make him go to sleep. Making loads of sounds and much more alart.

He is eatinng well though, seems to be bringing up a lot of milk though. This is not worrying me though as he is approaching 6kg at three weeks. Cannot complain.

How soon are you guys introducing, or did you introduce a reutine with your little ones?

3mummy, i want to snuggle serena all the time, but cant as i have 2 other dd's. so i have just purchased a moby wrap slip so hopefully i'll be able to snuggle her more when doing other things. will let you know how we get on with it once it arrives.

serena has infected eczema on her legs. it came up like small chicken pox, sop had to take her to the clinic as we had been to see Peter at harefield on friday, and i wasnt sure what the spots were or if they were contagious. have come away from the clinic with a perscription for fuciden H and aquous cream. so all 3 of my dd's now have eczema and all have flare ups right now. grrrr.

bonym · 01/05/2005 19:57

3mummy - have you tried putting Faith in a sling? Sometimes Grace refuses to go to sleep and just wants to be held so I put her in the sling and she usually drops off straight away. I can then get on with jobs (although they take a bit longer than usual with a baby strapped to your chest!)

Cristina7 · 01/05/2005 20:02

I use a pouch sling for Sylvia. She falls asleep easily in it. Depending on what I need to do I can then take the whole sling over my head and put her down to sleep in it on the sofa. She sleeps through the change if I keep her in the slightly squashed position she'd been in. (I use a Roobaby, see roobaby.co.uk).

norash40 · 01/05/2005 20:03

We take Kieran for walks in his sling. And it seems like we will soon have to strap him in indoors as well. Runninng up and down the stairs to simulate a walk heheheheeh . Hope we will not have to go that far.

Cristina7 · 01/05/2005 20:06

Misdee - I think Sylvia has eczema too. On her head, of all places. Head and eyebrows. I need to take her to the drs just to check this is what it is as I haven't seen it in a baby before (even though I read about it and should recognize it ).

misdee · 01/05/2005 20:07

probably cradle cap type eczema.

should have guessed serena would be affected when she peeled from head to toe after birth.

Cristina7 · 01/05/2005 20:09

Yeah, that's the type. I think! DH is upset in case he's "given" it to her (genes). He has this too and it's very annoying (and painful at times).

Cristina7 · 01/05/2005 20:10

There's no Edit function on here. I meant to say that DH has eczema, not cradle cap.

norash40 · 01/05/2005 20:11

I had it too in eyebrows till about 12 years old on and off but havent had it since.

I hope it does not get serious and that it clears up. Good luck at the Drs.

Leogaela · 01/05/2005 20:57

Pidge - I was also eating loads of chocolate and cakes, but I read that chocolate could cause a bf baby constipation problems so I stopped eating it. I can now get into all my old clothes except fitted tops! My jeans are a bit tighter around the hips than I would like the to be. At 5 weeks there was no chance to comfortably get into my jeans!

I tried giving him apple juice. he drunk some the first time but wouldn't take it the next time I tried. Well he had a 'monster poo' today so once again we are all feeling a bit more relaxed! I think I can safely take him to the swimming pool tomorrow !

Niklas also loves to be cuddled and held all the time. he will sometimes fall asleep on his own durnig the day if I wrap him up and put him down to sleep before he is too overtired. but he really only gets good daytime sleep if he is in the buggy, sling, on my shoulder or in the car!

We had a couple of really good nights, but he is back again to thinking that 5am is time to get up and play. He gets really hyperactive and won't go back to sleep. This morning when he woke up (again) at 7 dh played with him and at some point put him in bed with me, we woke up snuggled up to each other around 11am! Bliss!

Norash - i tried to get Niklas into a routine arond 4 weeks (i used Gina ford as a guideline). It just didn't work! I got frustrated with it very quickly and when things didn't work to plan i didn't konw how to restart again. I try now to feed him every 4 hours but I often don't remember when I last fed him. I think the routine will come naturally as it suits your routines and Kieran, but things change so quickly anyway. It seems to be like that with us anyway.

The feeling that I am getting from everyone is that things are getting more settled and better.

popsycal · 01/05/2005 21:11

5 sleepsuits, 3 explosive poos and 2 sheets later/////

Leogaela · 02/05/2005 09:06

Popscal - he must be feeding enough if its coming out of both ends! I hope you got some sleep after that!

Niklas woke up at 12, 3 and 6 for a feed! He's getting worse not better! Its really hot here at the moment, maybe he just needs more feeds?

norash40 · 02/05/2005 13:11

Is anyone home?

Cristina7 · 02/05/2005 16:29

Leogaela - maybe Niklas is thirsty from the heat and that'/s why he feeds more often.

Leogaela · 02/05/2005 18:47

Cristina - that's what I was thinking. Its just tough getting up so often in the night when I was hoping those days were passing!

Norash - Sorry Norash, we were out enjoying the fantastic weather! How are you doing? Is it so hot in the UK at the moment?

ZoeC · 02/05/2005 19:00

Lol, dd2 did 12, 3 and 6am feeds last night and there was me thinking how good that was , I don't go to sleep till 12 anyhow, so that's like only having one feed overnight! She can do 1.5 hours still sometimes, although it's generally 2-3. She did go 4 hours once, but I think that was just to tease me into thinking she'd do it regularly - not a chance ;)

I was thinking, would it help to have a list over here of birth dates, etc - or maybe post how old they are occasionally as a couple of weeks makes a big difference at this age, and I know we cover something like 7/8 weeks or so I guess!

Rebecca is just over 6 weeks, born 18/3 to kick it off.

Leogaela · 02/05/2005 19:58

ZoeC - I think I've been really spoilt with Niklas! I don't know how you function when you get so little sleep!
Good idea about the list. If you start it I'll add to it. Niklas is one of the older babies. Today he was fantastic! He was awake a lot and spend most of the time really happy, laughing and playing. I'm hoping his active day means he will sleep for a long time tonight without waking!

norash40 · 02/05/2005 21:09

Rebecca 6 weeks, born 18/3 .
Kieran 3 weeks, born 10/04
