Happy new year!

Sounds like good night('s sleep) were had - hooray for that!. DD woke once at 2am and then slept til 8. Boys both slept until 8.45ish - nothing short of a miracle. Then, on top of that DH made everybody breakfast. Great way to start 2009 .

I am now at my mum's for a couple of days with the children. It is very quiet - mum has been really quite ill (bug not anything else) over the last few weeks, so she went to bed early and the kids were so excited they were completely knackered, so I have had the last hour completely to myself - and the rest of the evening too (fingers crossed).

I do find it weird that some of your babies are around 5 months, whilst mine LO is still only 3 1/2. She is so with it as well, that it is sometimes difficult to remember she is so young. Sitting would be good - but crawling... and then the fun really begins

I am very excited about Bristol, mentioned it to DH ages ago, not sure he took it in so it will be interesting to see his reaction when I remind him. Although the Krispy Kreme bribe will no doubt work wonders - no1 - I will be there from around 10.30 - 2ish unless I can arrange something for DS1 (trying to), in which case it will be around 3.30.

PetitFilou1 · 01/01/2009 21:41

Right I've had a screaming baby for an hour for no apparent reason and an non appearing dh so am off to bed as looks like we will be having a 'who is the most knackered' competition in the morning (sigh)

PS Anyone seen VG?

TwilightSurfer · 01/01/2009 21:43

Longway your dh sounds amazing. Mine's proven himself in much the same way on occasion.

Oops I love the bean story. I gave Reese a carrot yesterday to gnaw. She wasn't very interested..just made her mad.

No1 folks have given me odd looks when I've talked about Sazzles&fam coming to the beach with us. I'm like WHATEVER.

TwilightSurfer · 01/01/2009 21:44

Xposted with everyone
sorry

poppysocks · 01/01/2009 22:01

Happy New Year everyone. What will 2009 bring for us all and our LOs I wonder? Any more babies????

Utterly stuffed here after a marathon cooking and then eating session. Yum. First time I've cooked a really unnecessarily elaborate meal since before DD1 was born and was so nice just to spend the day listening to the radio in the kitchen. DH meanwhile took the girls and was shattered .

Another lazy baby here. She's almost rolling over completely (and moves herself to sleep on her side) but I'm not encouraging it as I've found that the best place for her to nap is in the middle of our bed. That will obviously have to change when she rolls... No sign of sitting as she's still not strong in her back and finds the bumbo a bit much even, although she's so small for it that it doesn't offer her the support I guess it's supposed to. Half crawling though whenever on her front (not as much as she should be though ).

Off for an early night tonight after staying up to wish my brother and sister a happy b'day. As usual took ages to get through to them. Born at 0001 and 0003 - officially the first two babies born that year. My Mum's still bitter though that they never made it into the paper though because at 29 weeks it was touch and go whether they'd make it though . 28 years on though, all good.

oopsacoconut · 01/01/2009 22:02

Sazzles - in a poncho I just look like a tipi!!! Have found a fitted shirt which doesn't look too bad - will get my mum to take in the waist a bit and I will look like Pamela Anderson! (with a jelly belly)

My DH is okay about meeting up because Sazzles will be there( no need to be scared of her either)He is still not quiet sure how we know each other but he just gave in and accepted it.

Ataraxis - I feel the same DD is only just 4 months and I spend alot of time comparing her to my NCT group babies - one is 10 weeks older and the nearest one is 3 weeks older. I watch them and think 'why isn't she doing that yet?' so I have to reign in my expectations when they are all around. You are fortunate that you LO will be one of the eldest at school so will seem leaps ahead of others whereas my DD will be the youngest in her year.

ataraxis · 01/01/2009 22:29

Oops, I am in two minds about that - she is the third child and a September baby (I had really hoped she would stick with her Aug due date) - reckon that last year could be hell (DS2 - march born, is already wanting to go to big school).

I am on my mum's laptop in bed, I remember now why I put dd in her cot at 6 weeks - she is sooooo noisy in her sleep!

ataraxis · 01/01/2009 22:37

buckets - work got me (on my request) the Chicco Polly highchair - haven't opened it yet, but it does do various levels, so can be used as a chair as the child gets older but isn't one of those wooden ones that I know would get wrecked in no time in our house . No actual experience of real high chairs as we always used portable ones in the past, sorry.

oops just reread your dh nappy story and it made me laugh out loud - also reminded me of the early days with DS1 and the nappy struggles we had then - particularly when we were recommended cotton bottoms, which you had to fold yourself - they didn't last long once we discovered shaped nappies!

TwilightSurfer · 02/01/2009 02:29

LOL Did everyone read in the most recent MN newsletter that Cyteen wants More SEX in the new year!!!! YOU GO GIRL!!!

cyteen · 02/01/2009 08:58

hell yes i want more sex! (it's very healthful donchaknow) am pleased to say that i started the year as i mean to go on

also earning my FPG points this morning - DS up at 6.30am and i have played with him, read him a story, changed and fed him, chatted to him...we've had loads of fun. now he is asleep on my lap. DP is getting a reciprocal lie in just call me Superwife

Joe must have heard us all talking as he rolled onto his side this morning Like poppysocks, I'm not encouraging it as it will spell the end of me lazily taking him into our bed at night!

Can I also be FPG (guilty fpg)
Last night I fed ds ebm so I could see what he was getting and know of he cried it wasnt hunger.
he drank just under 7 oz of the 8 oz bottle, so I winded him and put him in cot.
He whinged, fussed picked him up more wind then put back down.
As the last few week s have been tough, I decided to get tough as I was on the verge of tears.
I walked out of room closed door let him cry for 4mins, returned stroked shhhh ed etc... left when he went quiet. I left the room 3 times.
He cried in total of 26 mins with intervals when I went in. Guess what, he settle and slept till 4.15, fed then slept till 9.30

Don think dh was happy about leaving him to cry, but it worked, and I explained he hardly sounded heart broken just whinging iykwim.( I have to deal with bedtime routine so Its my choice to do what i want)
Yes I did feel guilty, yes it did go against the grain a little but tbh I was desperste.
DD wa sup till 10.30 due to our desperation of peace we let her have a very late afternoon sleep.
she woke at 2.30 till 3.15, i also got tough and after 45 min of stroking her her trying to keep awake I said 'enough' 'go to sleep' Love you etc... It worked.

Sorry for me me me post, just feel like I could be getting somewhere.

am NOT FPG - 3 wake ups. wtf? he hasn't done that since he was a month old... And he bit me a couple of times in the night. Am wondering how we'll carry on with feeding cos it hurts...

sambo303mincepiesconsumed · 02/01/2009 13:56

aw albs that is terrible, have just come through the other side of 3/4/5 wake ups per night for the last 4 weeks and it made me want to start ds on food. Not fun

the last 3 nights though he's woken once at 3 or 4 then at 6.30 or 7.30am. Hope this is the start of a new phase. He has changed in those last 4 weeks from a little baby to a little boy so I'm thinking it was a crazy growth thing. Rolled from front to back twice and now catches his toes

Read recently about someone who's called their little boy Fox London. Now I want another LO called Fox. Felix and Fox, cute huh?

sambo303mincepiesconsumed · 02/01/2009 13:58

sambo still resolutely festive - yes, I'm one of those people who are last to leave a party

ok, I cant remember how to change back to non festive name, any tips???

ps where is vg? Hope all ok

BucketsofReindeerPoo · 02/01/2009 15:57

Urgent design advice please!
DH and DD have done first coat of paint in her bedroom and it is really overpowering - her choice of milkshake pink of course. I thought I could relinquish control and let them choose it but apparently I can't. You couldn't even call it pastel, it's just so pukey!
I'm wondering how much hassle to do a dado line halfway up and add some other colour to the top half. Curtains will be quite a bright blue (because they were free!) so I thought maybe either a v pale hyacinth bluey lilac or maybe just cream. This is not the big makeover, just painting the woodchip and woodwork (same pink) and laying laminate but it's got to be liveable.

BucketsofReindeerPoo · 02/01/2009 15:59

BTW I'm keeping my Xmas name til 7th so I'm in with a chance of winning one of the comps! (You have to set up a new public profile)

PetitFilou1 · 02/01/2009 18:52

Buckets Awww let her her have the milkshake pink

sambo now tell me, at what age did your lo do the 3/4/5 wake ups a night thing as this is what I am going through atm - the tiredness is shocking after having him sleep through the night for a few weeks. I keep trying to remember that he is about 16 weeks which was a nightmare with the other two as well

no1 I echo what sazzles said

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 02/01/2009 19:40

sazzles thank you that means a lot. I am sat here with baby monitor listening, but I dont here much so hopefully he is ok tonight and doesnt need settling. DH is up there and is listening out for him and will go in and settle if needed.
I am keeping out the way and letting him do it,as it didnt happen much with dd.

buckets aww cant she have it a while, or if its that bad I would compromise and tone down with other walls being plain.

pf I found the 16 week mark was when it all went pear shaped tbh. Good luck, not much help as I have been struggling/moaning ever since.

DD still up, I managed a day shopping with ds, and dh let her sleep late again.

Shopping was bit manic, I thought it would be pretty quiet but it was utter madness. Tis why I call the shopping centre Meadow Hell and not Meadow Hall

Thinking about Wine is it wine o clock yet???
I am sure it is.

Hi to everyone, whoever asked about vg I think she said she was going away for a few days and would be back to catch up in Jan.

dizzydixies · 02/01/2009 20:23

some fecking GIT has keyed our new car [grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr] happened at some point yesterday and its right down to the metal so its going to cost to have fixed

happy fecking new fecking year feck arse feck meep grrrrr

anyway at least it can only get better from here right?!?!?!?

happy new year all

sambo303mincepiesconsumed · 02/01/2009 20:36

pf it was between weeks 13 and 17 - we are n ow 17+1. DS is exceptionally large and looks the same size as his 7 month old cousin , not sure if size/weight means he went through it earlier than is usual. (and i hope he has been through it and come out the other side!). I should have got more sleep when ds slept - can you get to bed early once all the LOs are in bed to get an extra few hours?

no1 sounds a difficult night - I also leave ds when it's the 'whinge' rather than a cry, he sometimes gets himself off to sleep if I leave him. Hope things continue going well tonight

Off to bed now for an early night as have done big fat zero today due to tiredness. Dp taking me out for a (late) birthday lunch tomorrow and I need my beauty sleep.

sambo303mincepiesconsumed · 02/01/2009 20:39

xpost dizzy how awful! very for you

pertelote · 02/01/2009 21:09

Aaaargh - sorry everyone to come on just to whinge but our boiler has just died... thank goodness our ILs are reasonably close but I don't relish taking the train at this time even so Must be the sensible thing to do though, it's going to be a cold night I think and british gas can't come out til monday.

DD has had a bad day too, screaming whenever I put her down or even passed her to DH! Most unlike her.

I will now probably disappear til monday, sorry to hit and run! Hope you all have better nights...
