Thanks! I'll report back.

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/12/2008 21:49

Star - yes re burping sometimes.

Honeymoon - I'm still feeding roughly every couple of hours during the day. I think that little and often is generally advised for reflux babies isn't it?

No need to express and throw away if you're just having a couple of drinks. I was really paranoid about this with dd, but have read a lot of stuff on here about it since, including lots of stuff from tiktok, and am being a bit more relaxed this time. So far have had a baileys (before going dairy free), half a glass of wine, a snowball and a watered down whisky (this was to ease throat/cough at my mother's recommendation!).

I didn't have any plans for new year, but have just made some . We are having some friends to stay with their dd (5 months younger than dd, but you wouldn't know it) who is good friends with my dd. She's never had a friend to stay before, so will be exciting for everyone (except poss ds )!

Q sleeps from about 7/8/9 until 12/1 then feeds every 1 1/2 hours from there until morning. Normal?
this week, it's been sleep from 8/9 to 12, feed, back to sleep, then up wide awake at 2.30/3.30 until 6.30 then back to sleep for 1 1/2 hours at a time until 10am, then day naps and itstars al over.
Is this really awful sleep pattern? I'm tired but not exhausted, but also on holiday this week...
I just don't want to be irresponsible and not do something when I should for his sleep...

star6 · 30/12/2008 11:17

oh what fun, csws! Great idea!! If we had a spare room we'd do the same. No plans here.

star6 · 30/12/2008 19:59

i know this probably doesn't belong on post natal thread... but i've been trying to order groceries from both sainsbury or tesco for 2 hours now and their websites keep screwing up, emptying my basket or timingout... anyone else have this problem?? Oh and my sister (in the US) told me that online grocery shopping is lazy I told her it was "cultural"(she's one of those many americans that has never left the country and does not have a passport.. and could not understand why the British don't celebrate Thanksgiving! ) - yeah we are polar opposites.

Well, ds is asleep in his COT. We got a cot top changer today which is just so ingeneous! love that!! Space saver, back saver... awesome. DS had his first immunizations today and he (and I ). burst out with a cry when he felt them. It was horrible. You would think that with all of the technology we have in our world today, researchers of medicine would have ocme up with a way to get that stuff into babies without a needle by now ... I know, I know, they have much more important stuff to work on. Just being selfish.
Just can't believe I cried like that. So embarrassing!!

star -there is nothing wrong with internet shopping!!! Frankly we'd starve without it because shopping with 3 is a complete nightmare. We went to say goodbye to our Woolworths today (yes, I know!) and the DS's were horrific...
We all still have colds and I bought a plug in calpol vaporisor which says 3 months plus - DD is 10 1/2 weeks so not quite but she's just been gasping and gagging all night for the last 3 nights and we're bushed. Her cot is at such an angle to help with her breathing I was a tad worried she might slide right down it . Picture my concern as I try to "find" the baby in the dark!
We have a crazy evening planned here - sorting out the toys, everyone was so generous at Christmas, and they do play with almost everyhting but I think I have to be cruel and put some stuff away for DD and "exit" some of the boys things - will DD really play with 8 million Bob the Builder toys???
Sorry some of you had such a lousy Christmas - lou33 I hate playing family politics, I just don't see why I have to tread on eggshells to stop some super flouncy aunt from having a meltdown.
Our pushchair broke yesterday, the handle snapped off as we had to wedge so much stuff in the boot to go to DHs sisters and we hadn't realised. It was part of a Mamas and Papas travel system and really sturdy but 5 years old - I really really don't want to fork out for a new one so am gutted, Dh trying to fix it but can see it snapping again if you put any pressure on it to go up a curb or something.
Golly, I'm wittering on, I'll go now, if you see headlines about "woman disappears under sea of Bob toys.." it'll be me.

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/12/2008 20:47

star - your usual pattern is roughly what ds had settled into for the week or two before Christmas, but at the moment it's all tits up here too. I wouldn't be keen on a 3-4 hr stretch up in the middle of the night though, so if you can find a way to knock that on the head (wake him from daytime naps?) then I would.

I am desperate for bed tonight, after a particularly poor night, but ds showing no signs of sleep yet, having only woken from a nap at 7:30pm .

Do let us know how you rate the vapouriser pepper.

I expect to be called for ds' second set of jabs before we even get our 6-8 week check (ds 11 weeks) .

I hope you got the toys sorted, Pepper.
csws - I already don't let him nap past 4.30pm to separate day from night a bit... but whatever we've done - down at 7/8/9 even tried putting him to sleep at 10/11.. still always wakes at 12/1 then up for every hour or hour and ahalf to feed. It's really strange...

star6 · 31/12/2008 10:55

myjob, you're right, prob was the fluid. all i know is it hurt! i dont even mind jabs myself, but he is just so tiny...

loulou33 · 31/12/2008 12:53

hi all,

Star - Joe often burps on the brest and possets as well. If i dare to move him to clear the sick up, he shouts at me!!

Joe has started feeding all day and night for the last few days (up every 3 hours in the night) at night he only feeds for few mins then falls asleep again. during the day, his feeds have gone to 3 hourly and he only feeds for 15 mins each side which is a lot less than usual. I have posted on feeding topic as my hv and dh want me to give him formula at bedtime as he might be ready to wean. he only 16 weeks (corrected to 13) so nowhere near ready for solids. he also can't hold up his head at all so i couldn't do that to him as he'd choke. Am very confused and despondent...

Honeymoonmummy · 31/12/2008 12:54

Ha ha Pepper!

Poppy slept for 5 hours last night but the 5 only started at 4am so Dh and I were tearing our- and each others - hair out. I was really horrible to DH just cos was so tired. Have apologised this morning. We gonna go out for the day today cos both sick of these 4 walls

Ladies, Just logging on quickly to wish you all happy new year.

I was thinking this morning how quickly things change - this time last year I was utterly miserable, having had a miscarriage a few weeks earlier, and I was convinced that was it, that I'd had my chance and blown it and wouldn't get pregnant again at my age. And here I am, one year on with a beautiful baby boy who I couldn't possibly love any more.

We've all achieved so much. Let's hope that 2009 is a great one for all of us.
xx

Happy New Year everyone! (I do know there's half an hour to go by the way )
DH and I have worked out this is the first new year in over 25 years for either of us that we haven't been out! And I'm preparing bottles/dummies now so we can go straight to bed after midnight - how sad is that
See you all tomorrow
x

PS very pleased with calpol vaporisor last night - wasn't overwhelming and both DD and I could breathe easier.

star6 · 01/01/2009 09:14

Happy new year all!
Forgot to ask this yesterday... my recent blood test shows my iron level as 8.6 still im doing all that i can (but this certainly explains why even feeding exhausts me). this may be a silly question... but does this mean that ds will be anaemic as well? Is there anything i can do to prevent this? I'm trying my best to get my own levels back up. I didn't stop bleeding from the birth until week 10 and it wasn't light until week 8. So this probably has something to do with it, I'm guessing... he's 13 weeks today.

Aubergenie · 01/01/2009 11:51

Well Pepper, You did better than me - I fell asleep at about 11 o'clock! Ds fed what seemed like all evening and all night and a large part of this morning. Maybe this is the 12 week growth spurt?

DS saw the cranial osteopath and I'm so glad we did it. I know it's early days but he is burping much better (could never really get a burp out of him without gripe water and then he'd still have really bad wind later) and seems much more settled. If this carries on, DP is going to have to reluctantly agree that it worked!

Star - I don't know about the iron thing wrt your ds, but you must be feeling exhausted. Are you still on iron tablets or have they given you an injection?

star6 · 01/01/2009 11:56

spatone and i eat lentils everyday and spinach with oj for lunch and dinner.... i should be turning into iron! cant stand iron tabs and ineffective.
well done with CO! congrats
yes prob 12 week growth spurt aubergenie.
Is12 week the last feeding frenzy spurt?? [hopeful]

happy new year y'all

star try eating kiwi and/or green pepper with spatone as much higher in vit c than oj. i thought 12 weeks was last growth spurt but joe just had one at 16 weeks!! he's put on 600grams in 2 weeks

hedgepig · 01/01/2009 15:06

Happy New year everyone, we managed to stay up until 12 but it was more to do with making up bottles and washing up than celebrating .

We ahev just been for a lovely walk but it is might chilli out there.

Aubergenie · 01/01/2009 15:22

Star - I know you've had problems with your iron levels for ages and have probably tried everything so feel free to ignore me, but when I had low iron (not as low as you admittedly) and Spatone wasn't doing the trick, I tried Florodix from the health food shop and that seemed to improve my level slightly. It may not work for everyone, but might be worth a try?
