thanks aubergenie Actually I used to take floradix during pregnancy - worked wonders but didn't get thelevel up very high... but still worked very well in getting it up and energy. Thanks because I had totally forgotten about that!! I'll pick some up tomorrow

Honeymoonmummy · 01/01/2009 18:13

Aw bless Aubergenie, re this time last year. I'm glad the cranial osteopath is looking good, actually heard from another friend yesterday that they're good too.

Star - I'm anaemic too, had to have a transfusion, I gave up the iron tablets cos they gave me horrendous constipation, in fact I stopped them about 4 weeks ago and I'm still not right despite various medications. I've not been for my blood test to see how anaemic I still am yet. I tried floradix too but it seemed to start to constipate me again so i stopped. I've noticed I'm as weak as a kitten, if I walk for 10 mins my hips are killing, I assume this is the anaemia, unless its cos I spend far too much time on my backside feeding Poppy! I'm a bit of a spinach fiend too at the moment! Sorry no actual advice for you but at least you know you're not alone!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY! Blimey, what a year it was for me, got married, had DH's 40th, first holiday in the US (life ambition) and baby! A good years work all in all!!!

Here's to a sleep-filled peaceful new year for us all! x

Honeymoonmummy · 01/01/2009 18:17

Oh Star, one thing I am doing is taking the Pregnacare breastfeeding vitamins, not only for the iron in them but also cos I'm veggie and need the vitamin boost...when I remember to take them!

star6 · 01/01/2009 18:27

honeymoon - comforting to hear!!
I'm veggie too I didn't know there were breastfeeding vitamins. I will look into that. floradix never constipates me, but tabs do. good to know we have company Although sorry for you, too.

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/01/2009 18:31

Happy New Year everyone .

We had a good evening with our friends, although settling the two girls in the same room proved to be impossible, and ds wouldn't go to bed at all (would eventually sleep when held by us downstairs), so came up with me about 1am! He's really been very unsettled for a few days now, but can only guess as to what's up. The friend who stayed over is a chiropractor specialising in pregnant women and children, so she gave ds a bit of a once over after breakfast, and realigned a few bits that we hope will help.

star - there's another more prolonged growth spurt around 16-20 weeks. This is the one that some people misinterpret as meaning that their baby is too hungry for just milk so needs weaning .

loulou - am horrified but not surprised by your hcps. I'll happily stick my neck out and say that he's definitely too young for weaning, and that it's not just my opinion .
Was interested that you say that he can't hold his head up at all. Can the rest of the Oct babies? Ds has been doing this for weeks, to the extent that we now sometimes have him forward facing in the bb carrier, but I have no idea what the norm is for this (and appreciate that it doesn't matter at all (except re appropriateness of weaning )).

Evening all, hope everyone had a nice day.
Ours went well, we had my best friend over for the day with her 3 kids so they ran riot for most of the afternoon and DD slept upstairs for a nap!!!! DS2 was so busy trying to be grown up like my friends 7 yr old that he didn't notice me taking her upstairs and we avoided the screaming/vomit inducing fit that usually happens when he can't see her. Quite a relief I have to say.
star hope the iron supplement works, it's no fun being exhausted all the time.

star6 · 01/01/2009 18:39

csws surely you dont mean it lasts 4 weeks?? ds holds his head well. only slight lag when lifted from back onground by dh. still needsguidance finding nipple for feeds though

Ekka · 01/01/2009 19:09

Happy New Year everyone. We had a positive night for sleep with ds - he went from 11-3 and then 3-8am. But the downside with him sleeping well was that my boobs were rock hard & I couldn't get him to latch on to the right one at all until after I'd expressed at 8 (got 120ml from that one side )

We spent today with friends who have 2 boys (the youngest the same age as dd). It was a bit fraught as their older ds is really not coping well with his little brother at the moment, so lots of tantrums, but dd just ignored it and played with their ds2 .

Sorry to hear about the anaemia star - it must be so hard for you.

Bother, ds just yelling, must go and deal with him, will catch up with everyone's news soon

Honeymoonmummy · 01/01/2009 19:26

Star they do contain fish. I started eating fish when I became pregnant cos I'm the unhealthiest veggie on the planet and decided she needed some brain food! Now I eat fish every day!

Poppy seemed to have a strong neck from day one, she holds her head up with a small amount of pressure from fingertips if I hold her by the armpits. She's one of the younger babies here. Since yours is one of the oldest it does seem unusual Loulou? Have you mentioned it to HV/ doctor?

Poppy did what sounded like a little laugh earlier

pepperrabbit · 01/01/2009 20:22

I officially need more hands.
While sorting out DD after bathtime this evening, the DS's were taking advantage and mucking around in the bath and DS1 made himself laugh so much he has just pooed in the bath.
I used to lead a civilised grown up life - now I am doomed to spend my evenings chasing floaters round the bathwater and bleaching the boats!
At least they didn't have their toothbrushes in there tonight

Honeymoonmummy · 02/01/2009 12:49

Ha ha ha Pepper!

I'm off to check out the Mothercare sale again, wish me luck!!

loulou33 · 02/01/2009 13:24

hi cscw - my hv didn't suggest weaning him but said he might be getting hungrier as he's started waking more and feeding more frequently as an indicator of weaning. She doesn't want me to wean and i wanted to dlarify as i know hv are often crap but she is in fact quite good on the whole. I certainly don't want to wean him but i haven't taken up her suggestion of formula as a way to avoid weaning as he seems to have settled in a two wakes a night strategy and seems happy on this. I gues i'll jsut have to get used to getting up more often in the night.

Joe can hold his head up a for a little while, i think he choses not to!!. I wouldn't class it as strong enough to be able to sit and be fed solids iyswim.

Aubergenie · 02/01/2009 16:22

Oh the glamour, Pepper!

CSWS - Do you still use your Close carrier with DS? Having used it pretty much non-stop, I'm finding that in the first position, he's starting to slip down and it's getting less comfortable. I don't think he's ready for the later positions yet. Just wondered if you were having the same problem?

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/01/2009 16:49

Maybe not the whole 4 weeks star, but it is a long one.

Aubergenie - yes, still use the close carrier when I want my hands free for ds' naps. Slips a little sometimes, but will actually need to change position because he's getting too long for that one rather than anything else. He is big and strong enough for some of the other positions now, so I need to look at the instructions/dvd to remind myself what they are and how to do them.

Discovered one reason that ds might have been a bit unsettled over the last few days. Have been eating some M&S maple roast nuts, and dh realised this afternoon that they contain milk . with myself for not checking - it's very unlike me.

Myjob so is she falling through the centile lines on the growth chart? (Which are for formula fed babaies and not bf babies anyway?) Is the HV pressuring you to formula feed?

From what you say she sounds fine, if she was lethargic etc then I would be worried myself but she sounds healthy enough.
I'm not bfeeding myself so I can't compare charts or anything, and I am a bad mother as I haven't taken Oliver to be weighed for weeks. But I do remember with DS1 (who I did bf)I had similar issues and he is absolutely fine, he just wasn't interested in food until he was 2ish and still rarely tells us if he is hungry.

myjob sounds like you are doing all the right things. Why not take the pressure off and as long as she is happy and healthy - don't take her to be weighed...
I met a very healthy little girl of 12 months the other day who still weighed less than 16lbs, she was like a little doll but she was absolutely fine!

Hi Ladies. Happy Christmas and New Year. Sorry I've been missing for a while. Had a lovely Christmas and DD doing fine but now seems to need to be held all the time in order to sleep - lots of cuddles over Christmas I think!
We had friends over for New Year with a little boy the same age as DS (nearly 2). We put them to bed in the same room and they fell asleep straight away. Friends were really surprised as they normally have to sit and settle their DS for up to an hour! They now reckon that they're bringing him round here every night.
I guess we'll all be trying to get back to normal after the weekend. At the moment DD doesn't wake up for the day til about 10 so I might have to put her to bed in clothes that aren't too obviously PJs.

SmudgeyDoodle · 02/01/2009 21:54

Myjob that sounds like a good plan re weighing. My HV said to me that as long as they are growing out of their clothes then don't worry about getting them weighed.

hedgepig · 02/01/2009 22:13

myjob Oliver is ff and is also just on the bottom line and just starting to grow out of his nb clothes (born 5th Oct), so formula would not necessarily put Naomi up a few lines any way. Not having her weighed sounds like a good plan to me, I am so much more relaxed 2nd time around and NOT going to baby clinic .

Ekka · 02/01/2009 22:14

Myjob if she's happy and seems to be alert etc, it doesn't sound as if there's a major problem. The only advice I can give re quality is what I was told when dd was falling down the centiles. Apparently, the only thing that is important that you keep up in your diet is the fat content. All other items will be taken from your own stores, but with fat that has to come from what you eat (guess thats why they tell you not to diet when bf!). So I was advised to eat things high in fat eg greek yoghurt with honey, sardines on toast, walnuts etc to make sure that my milk was high in fat content. Its great that she's chubby and happy, and the fact the hv isn't concerned is a good sign!

Ds is still awake.... The last couple of nights he's been asleep by 8.30/9 and done some really good 4-5hr stints, but I'm not too hopeful about tonight. Oh well, at least its the weekend!
