Ha ha Jenwa when I read your thread I thought you were saying "with us grunting" - I thought god, u need that contraceptive!!

They do a high vaginal swab to test for clamydia and something else, i forget. Not exactly looking forward to it but I'm gonna be brave and go for it.

I just got my first proper eye contact smile, I was blowing raspberries. I feel wonderful now

Night all xx

loulou33 · 21/12/2008 21:39

hi all,

sorry ive been absent but ds very poorly with viral thing. wloke up form his lunchtime sleep with a huge blister on his EYE!!! They had been bloodshot for a day or so as he gets really high temps (40 degrees) but there's this yellow blister on his eyeball. Rang nhs 24 and had to drive to hosp with screaming baby as well as wimpering toddler. I tried to ask for gp to come to him as i was unhappy about him leaving the house with a temp touching 39 degrees in freezing weather but no joy . He has eye infection and chest infection as well as virus so he's feeling very sorry for himself. missed village christmas party and he saw anta arriving and all the kids playing as we left for hosp (our house is really near vilalge hall) - poor boy could onyl look longingly out of the window of the car. Am praying that Joe doesn't get it and that ds is better by xmas.

CSWS - hope you're getting more sleep. I am trying to cut out dairy too as i think Joe has a bit of intolerance to dairy so we'll see, its only been 4 days so far.

STAR - don't out pressure on yourself to either have sex or get 'self sorted' as it will happen in its own time. i would leave therapy for a few months yet as you have so much on your plate. ANyway, who said it was YOU who needed therapy??? It takes two you know.....

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/12/2008 21:43

Aww for the smile honeymoon. Friend needs to spend a couple of days in bed just feeding - lots of skin to skin and constant offering of boob, and she needs to ease up on offering the formula, as it will impact supply.

The long sleep was on tummy in our bed. I did manage to get him to take a nap in the Amby this morning, but only for 40 mins, and he wouldn't settle in it this afternoon. We've not even tried him in it for the last week, because his sleep was improving in the bed, and we didn't want to risk knackering that!

Cross post loulou. Sorry to hear that ds1 is poorly. Good luck on the dairy thing - hope it makes a difference for you. Think both of mine have had a really unsettled day about 4 days in, so don't give up giving up if you get that too.

OP posts:
loulou33 · 22/12/2008 14:41

thanks for that csws - have also sent some horrible vibes to your mil for you 9they doon forget how hard babies are).
LIke you said 4 days in and Joe was a bit unsettled yesterday but also didn't get any sleep during the day as i was juggling him and poorly ds. ds better today but still has very red eye and streaming cold so will have to miss friends birthday party as well... i want him better for xmas which is more important. joe is asleep in his pram took him out to deliver xmas cards and he is still asleep in porch. he's had 1 hour and half now away from me - unheard of during the day and i don't know what to do with myself except let you lot know!! Hope duncan gets used to amby during the day so you can have a break. its sooo easy for others to say 'just put them down and let them cry'. I overheard my fil say something similar to dh, as though he's Dr bloody Spock. He barely saw his children when they were small so what would he know!!

honeymoonmummy - both mine have had reflux and i would suggest asking for referral to paediatrician as there are lots of other meds that might work as well ie domperidone to manage sickness and ranitidine for acidity. You need to be sure that acidity is well controlled as the acid can do permanent damage to the oesophagus if not controlled properly. It usually rights itself by 6 months when valve strengthens. Are you sure you can make up Gaviscon with just breast milk? i thought you had to use water first and then mix with breast milk to hide the flavour?? its a while since i've used itimnd you so instructions may have changed, as mine have both hated the taste and won't tolerate that volume of liquid on top of a feed (i didn't think you could give in the middle of a feed as i thought it had to 'sit' on top of milk to work??) Didn't find it very helpful as made no difference to my two but domperidone has certainly helped Joe no end....sorry for the ramble...

Off to make bread sauce....

loulou33 · 22/12/2008 14:42

sory that should say they 'soon' forget not 'doon'....

jenwa · 22/12/2008 21:38

honeymoon yeh sorry it does look like "us grunting" haha!!! No grunting from us I can tell you!!! Dh said he wants loft done so we can get up there and get kids in theie own room purely for that purpose!!!

star6 · 23/12/2008 09:36

ok Q has had no poo in 8 days... but all of a sudden has smelly farts!!! They have never smelled before - he is only 12 weeks (on thurs). normal?

star6 · 23/12/2008 11:54

never mind... big one just after that post!!!!! wow.....

Honeymoonmummy · 23/12/2008 12:08

Ha ha Star!

Loulou that's interesting to know, thanks. They said try gaviscon for 6 weeks and should start to see improvement within 2, should I wait till 2 weeks is up first?

Off to read instructions now...TBH its a pain using breast milk cos I'm not expressing much as it is and would like to use it for an evening feed. But we havent got the best water here - could I use mineral water?

Honeymoonmummy · 23/12/2008 12:19

Oh and thanks for the advice CSWS, I've passed it on.

loulou33 · 23/12/2008 12:33

Your water should be alright if its boiled and cooled shouldn't it?? When you say not the best, what's wrong with it?? I guess if it has lots of lead then boiling won't help but you can get it tested by the council. Ours offers grants to have pipes replaced if the lead leves are too high. Your other choice is to mix it with formula instead. I found it a pain expressing as well, just to put into gaviscon and both my boys wouldn't touch it as they could taste it....you should see some improvement after a week or so but i never found it any good but you might have better luck with it...fingers crossed for you

Ekka · 23/12/2008 12:44

star ds only seems to poo every 5 days & has the worst smelly farts ever! Think it must be linked, but my hv wasn't worried... she reckons uo to 10 days isn't too concerning if they're exclusively bf....

Honeymoonmummy tap water should be fine if boiled & cooled. Be careful with mineral water as many of them have too high a sodium content. The only one I've heard is ok is evian water (though I think you still need to boil it before use).

loulou sorry to hear about all the illness, great that Joe got some sleep in his pram away from you!

Honeymoonmummy · 23/12/2008 13:26

Thanks Loulou. Yes, we think the pipes are lead, we only found out recently altho thank god before she had any.

It does say mix with water but I've got 2 more already mixed with milk, do u think they'll be OK? Are u sure about Evian before I use it??

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/12/2008 15:15

Just a quickie to concur that Evian is best choice of mineral water.

OP posts:
loulou33 · 23/12/2008 18:38

Our pipes are lead honeymoonmummy and we had them tested and the water is absolutely fine. Lead pipes are only really a problem if the water sits in them for a long time before being used - ie vacant house or hotel rooms which are barely used. You then have to run the taps for 10 mins to get urid of water with the leaed in. if you use all your taps regularly then the lead should not be a problem but ask the council (environmental standars/health dept) to come and take a sample to put your mind at rest. I have never used bottled water so dont konw, i guess the 2 you have made up will be fine...

star6 · 23/12/2008 18:48

do people give babies cooled boiled water just on its own in a bottle? I was thinking it might just satisfy ds' sucking needs (he refuses the "dummy" as I think he wants to get something from his sucking) but I'm sure sure sure he gets enough food and he's gaining enough weight, too. I'm tired of my (still sore and cracked) nipples being his dummy! But I love him and will do whatever it takes to make him happy...

star6 · 23/12/2008 19:14

so we finally found bolts and screws to Q's cot and set it up yesterday. DH let him sleep ON HIM from 7pm-11pm then 12midnight after my feed until 4am! I was so ... but then I woke at 4 with him, fed him and fell asleep winding him on the sofa ... with him ON ME... and he slept there from 6.30am-9.30am (thank goodness for the holidays)!!

He's now in his cot (just went down at 7 - I just bounced him in his seat and he fell asleep - a first!). I hope he stays there comfortably for a while. I'm going to just keep putting him back in there tonight if it kills me. What do you all think? Pick him up every time he cries and put him back or let him cry a bit? I get very anxious when he cries (I know, I'm a crazy mummy - it just breaks my heart...and yes, I know, I know, I know I'll have a spoiled child if I keep it up!)

star6 · 23/12/2008 19:18

oh and jenwa i read "us grunting" as well! ha!
saw counselor today about issues with sex...etc. and she promised me confidentiality. I told her information I have only shared with 3 other people in my entire life and she blurted it out to my gp with the door open afterward! What a waste of time and trust. Never again. She also said it was a bit "beyond her" and what she can do to help... but didn't leave me with other suggestions. I've found some, looking online, though. waste of time!

Honeymoonmummy · 23/12/2008 19:36

Sorry to hear you're experience with the counsellor was no good Star. Maybe you should make a complaint?

Thanks Loulou/ CSWS, I have a man coming to look at my pipes on Boxing Day and DH has just come in from the supermarket with bottles of Evian

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/12/2008 20:24

Star - no to water in a bottle for a breastfed baby. If he fills up on water then he won't take enough milk, and will not gain weight. Will he suck a finger instead of your breast?

at your counselor star - worth a formal complaint I would say.

'I'm going to just keep putting him back in there tonight if it kills me' - bet you don't if he really doesn't like it . I would suggest leaving him if it's just a tiny grizzle, but picking him up if he gets properly upset. You really can't spoil a baby who is only 12 weeks old IMO .

Thanks! You're right csws... he cried for 30 seconds and I picked him straight up. He's in my arms now...
myjob - how do you know she's teething?
How very very sweet of your DS!

star6 · 23/12/2008 20:47

of your breastmilk production myjob! lol I know it must be a hassle for you, though. I don't really know what to say to help it except maybe do the opposite of how to get more milk.... so.... stop drinking water, eating oats...etc... that just can't be the right thing to do, though!
