Good tips from Ronshar there. One more to add from me is to get Poppy used to getting her whole self submerged in water from an early age, so if you are feeling brave, then dunk her tomorrow. To do this, blow in her face and then dunk her quickly and very briefly. And of course give her a big cuddle straight afterwards .

Take a spare towel - the first one you wrap round them gets soaked, so you dry them with your towel. Then you're naked and cold and only have a choice of wet towels to sort yourself out!
Enjoy!

Honeymoonmummy · 26/01/2009 21:36

All tips gratefully recceived, in fact I've saved loads of old threads re swimming and am about to re-read them! I've never taken a baby/ child swimming before. I'd read about that dunking thing but I really dont think I'll be brave enough for that tmrw! The plan is if she likes it i'll start a proper class after easter.

Honeymoonmummy · 26/01/2009 21:47

Oh god, I' getting nervous now!

Plus am rather cross. My brpthers girlfriend has just announced on facebook that they are planning their wedding, wouldn/t it have been nice to be told first?????

When I told my dad i was pregnant we only told parents, he virtually forced me to tell brother at same time altho v early days, brother is adopted so dad got chip on his shoulder about making brother feel one of the family- eveidently it doesnt work both ways

aubergenie · 27/01/2009 08:59

Honeymoon, Good luck with swimming. Let us know how it goes. I noticed that you can download tutorials here. I've no idea what they're like though, but thought I'd mention it.

We've got jabs today. Not so fun.

star6 · 27/01/2009 09:21

honeymoon - good luck today with swimming!
I just realized that I think we have second jabs today, too... but I can't bring him! Will have to reschedule. VERY busy week at work.
I don't know why I don't like chip shops, just think they are smelly. I don't like fast food places... not your typical American

loulou33 · 27/01/2009 13:46

jenwa - sorry didn't realise you were ff its sad that people get so angry on some of the threads. I would ignore them and go with what you want to do

...mmmm.....chips....but have to agree with star that some chip shops smell too oily/greasy for me...

Honeymoonmummy · 27/01/2009 14:47

Hi all, well the swimming went well, we only stayed in for 10 mins cos her bottom lip started to tremble, but she didn't cry until she was back in the changing room!

Thanks for the link Aubergenie, you inspired me to look myself and i found a free alternative:-

4andnotout · 27/01/2009 16:05

Afternoon everyone,
I have been a really good girl and abstained froms mumsnet this morning and did 4 hours of ironing, only have a few more piles to do..plus whatever is in the tumble dryer
Made a bit of cash on ebay last night and have bought a double buggy from here so I'm Going to list a huge bundle of dd4's newborn clothes today, if we ever do have another baby it might not even be a girl so there is no point holding on to everything is there?
All my family keep on at me about weaning dd4 (all the others were by 12 weeks) but she just seems so happy being bf i don't want to jinx it iykwim, also i think subconsciously that all the time i bfing her she still needs me rather than dp. Until dd4 arrived, dd3 only ever wanted me but then she transferred her affection to dp.

Honeymoonmummy · 27/01/2009 17:21

God I've not even contemplated weaning and all that it entails yet! I'm gonna hold off till as close to 6 months as I can.

I thought she'd sleep this afternoon after all that [10 mins] swimming, but oh no, not Poppy!

CantSleepWontSleep · 27/01/2009 18:42

Gah - ds bathed and in sleeping bag but is now falling asleep on my lap. If I put him to bed now then we'll be up for the day at 3am instead of the usual 4-5am .

Glad that swimming went well honeymoon, and you're right not to think about weaning yet. It shouldn't be done before 26 weeks and that's aaaaaages away.

Don't suppose that anyone on here has a purflo cot mattress do they?

OP posts:
ronshar · 27/01/2009 20:13

Honneymoon, great news on the swimming. Glad it all went well.

Why do women get so agitated about the choices others make. So what if someone formula feeds. It is a not really anyone elses business. It certainly doesnt give others the right to demonise them. As seems to be the way it works on some threads here. Yes breast is best but some people have deep issues about it or do not want to carry on with the pain etc.
It does annoy me

ronshar · 27/01/2009 20:13

CSWS what is a Purflo mattress?

Honeymoonmummy · 27/01/2009 20:31

No I've never heard of it either

CantSleepWontSleep · 27/01/2009 20:34

Here ronshar. It's basically a frame with some fancy fabric stretched over it. We still haven't got a new cotbed mattress for ds, and I'd like to try popping him in the nursery for the odd nap or two soon, so that he can start to get used to it. Dh turned the bed back into a cot at the weekend, so this is all we need to sort now.

At the risk of annoying you, I think that some people get worked up about some choices that others make because it is the mother choosing what is best for her and not necessarily best for the baby. The baby doesn't have a voice, so other mothers like to step in and be a conscience. I do agree that some people can take it too far though, and that some things are best left to the mother to decide.
I know that I have learned a lot and had a lot of views changed or polarised as a result of MN, and one of the things that I like best about this site is that people are generally honest, whether you want to hear what they have to say or not.

OP posts:
ronshar · 27/01/2009 20:42

I do agree with you csws. I have also had lots of my supposed knowledge challenged and do a better job for it. What I think annoys me is that ultimately some people use mn to vent frustration and others get flamed unfairly. Not always, but sometimes

I have got a mothercare sprung mattress. The cover comes of and can be washed at 90c

Honeymoonmummy · 27/01/2009 20:45

Oooh, I can feel a heated debate coming on!

My anniversary present honeymoon journal is NOT going well, the anniversary is on Thurs and I'm going out tomorrow!

Honeymoonmummy · 27/01/2009 20:47

I've got mothercare too, i've not had to wash it yet cod have a wwaterproof cover on top and fitted sheet and then a towel!

Honeymoonmummy · 27/01/2009 20:49

Cod was supposed to be and. I'm dide feeding...

Honeymoonmummy · 27/01/2009 20:50

Actually no it was supposed to be "cos"!

aubergenie · 27/01/2009 20:53

Glad swimming went well Honeymoon. Thanks for the free link - even better! I've bought ds a swim nappy and am planning on taking him soon. A bit nervous though.

I've been charging round today picking up stuff for a friend of mine who has just got home following an emergency c section and is a right old state, poor thing. The whole thing sounded horrendous, and she's delirious with lack of sleep. Plus all the newborn baby stuff is too big for her tiny baby, so I had to go and get her loads more. Ds looked like the incredible hulk next to her! It really makes me realise how far we've come in the last few months.

Wishing you all good sleep tonight, ladies.
x

CantSleepWontSleep · 27/01/2009 21:01

'cos' I could work out, but 'dide' has me flummoxed!

Spoken to dh and he's up for trying the mattress, so will order.

OP posts:
ronshar · 27/01/2009 21:04

Oh no I leave the heated debates to others now. I got my fingers burnt on mn a long time ago.

Honeymoonmummy · 27/01/2009 21:07

Dide is side! A genuine mistake which I spotted but left in cos it tickled me!
