honeymoon whatlovely story and don't do the dvd. quick, step away from the machine and towards the bath and book shelf! hope you enjoy swimming tomorrow. don't be surprised if it takes u longer to get changed either side than you are in the water. talking about weight is a bad idea. noone came up with a suggestion as to how i look ok at my s-i-l wedding in jamaica next month when my other s-i-l is like a glamour model and her youngest is 3 and she's a personal trainer (not the youngest, the mum!!)

SmudgeyDoodle · 25/01/2009 13:47

jenwa - in all honesty, I'd say save your money and don't get DD anything like that. They'll be out of it soon and you'll then have to work out what to do with it. How about a cosy cardboard box that you put some blankets in and keep changing the toys? if she's anything like DD, she'll be totally entertained by older sibling anyway.
totally agree with people about weaning - too much hassle. I remember with DS I was ready to start because it was really exciting but once the novelty wore off, it's so much easier when it's just milk.
Had a good night two nights ago. Tried Stars strategy of putting a dummy in when she woke and it worked for a little bit. We managed 9,2,4.30,6 for feeds. last night not great though and think I must have got up about 10 times. DH just made a lasagne for lunch so we're waiiting for DS to get up so we can all eat together.

loulou33 · 25/01/2009 14:27

hi all,

Really enjoyued our night out and ds1 loved playing with his firnds. Joe was really good. Got home and drunken idiot ran into our casr parked outside our house (if it had been 1 hour earlier we would have been getting kids out of the car - scary). Even though this guy is a neighbour decided to call the police as he was really drunk and had to give statements etc. Police didn't leave til gone midnight and Joe woke just after, so got no sleep till about 1am. Didn't sleep well as worried what neighbours are saying about us, ie snitching to the police. We had to give them the name of another neighbour who witnessed the whole thing but i know he didn't want to give statement so he hates us now too i guess...am dreading seeing the neighbour or his wife. She doesn't drive at all so if he loses his licence that really limits her getting about. I know i shouldn't worry and it was his fault but i guess others might not have called the police for a quite life.

Myjob - csws is right, if you eat so little, your body shuts down and you never lose weight. It takes at least 6 motnhs for the average mum to get back to pre-pg weight, some longer so hang in there girl.....

honeymoonmummy - lovely story - made me all weepy
xxxx

Ekka · 25/01/2009 15:56

Jenwa - I have a playmat with an arch, but I just change the toys (we have several of those toys with clips for the buggy which I can hang there) to keep ds interested. He also sits in my lap while I play with dd which seems to interest him as well! It won't be long before they are rolling and pushing themselves up on their tummies and then everything will be interesting. I have pics of dd age 5 months up on her tummy inspecting everything and she learned to sit up by herself then as well so she could hold toys and look at them!

Loulou - sorry to hear about the car. I think you definitely did the right thing. Maybe his wife doesn't drive, but you can't put your family & others at risk by not reporting him driving when drunk. Poor you though, what a night.

Myjob - I would imagine people are looking at you and thinking how good you look! Really, don't worry about the weight. I was told that your body holds onto some weight until you stop bf (emergency reserves I guess) so don't panic yet.... I was still bf dd when I got pg with ds, so haven't actually tested this theory, but I'm sticking to that belief .

Who asked about baptism? We got ds baptised earlier this month as a double baptism with dd (we waited till dh's parents were coming over from Canada). Personally having done it, I think its definitely easier to get it done BEFORE they are walking & talking! DD kept wandering over the the priest & babbling away to him and when he was holding the bible she wandered over and said book (except she says it buka, which can sound a bit rude - sometimes her k comes out more like a g!). Ds on the other hand just slept through the whole thing! It was a good day though....

Must go - dh has been at work today so I need to go and deal with dcs who are just starting to get cranky while I mn.....

Honeymoonmummy · 25/01/2009 16:34

Smudgey, you were too late to stop me I'm afraid - I DID IT! [smug grin] Actually, I didn't even break into a sweat, which is more of a reflection of the level of the DVD than my personal fitness levels, trust me! I can already feel my legs though...

There was a bit where they told you to lie on the floor and, with your palm facing you, stick 2 fingers in your belly button and do a small sit-up - if your tummy muscle doesnt clench the fingers then your tummy muscles aren't back in place yet and you need to hold your tummy when doing stomach exercises. I did it and couldn't feel anything ha ha!

I BET you're all gonna try this now...

I asked about baptism, we're just starting to look at numbers, will probably plan it for when Poppy is 6 months old.

Ha ha re personal trainer Smudgey and re buka Ekka!

Good for you Loulou, as you say its his problem, not yours. Don't worry, he's probably mortified.

star6 · 25/01/2009 17:15

how do you fit two fingers in a belly button? I think I have a weird belly button now

Honeymoonmummy · 25/01/2009 17:51

Ha ha Star! I'm guessing that if you can't even get two fingers in, you really don't have a problem!!!

Honeymoonmummy · 25/01/2009 17:55

Oh god, just caught myself laughing at one of the programmes on Baby TV. Plus I know the words to some of the regular songs. I gotta get out more.

pepperrabbit · 25/01/2009 18:11

jenwa -to answer your earlier question re formula. I make up 5/6 sterilised bottles of freshly boiled water and then leave them on the side and add powder as she needs a feed. Most feeds she takes at room temperature.
I know this goes against guidelines this time round, but was perfectly acceptable for DS2 - with DS1 we made up bottles of milk and kept in fridge then microwaved slowly warmed in a jug of hot water...
All three of mine are perfectly healthy (mostly).
Had fab time at party last night but got home at 2am and DD woke for feed at 5.. even fabulous hair isn't helping me today

jenwa · 25/01/2009 19:05

pepperrabbit I do exactly that and what you used to do I did with DD1 so not feeling too bad now Although I do warm them up before I give them to her (same method as you ) as she likes them warmer.

loulou poor you with the neighbour thing, I know what you mean but if it had been when you were in car it could have been worse so I think you did the right thing, hopefully he will have learnt a lesson without harming anyone!

honeymoon well done, I am proud of you it is what I should do really!!!

Thanks for advice re activity centres/playmats. I know its money and yes dont really want to spend more! Think it is because we have laminate floor and feel there is no where to lye DD2 comfy! smudgy good idea re cardboard box though.

loulou33 · 25/01/2009 20:09

all quiet here for the minute so thought i keep you updated. The guy has been remanded to appear before the sheriff tomorrow and here, you only get remanded if you are more than 2 times over the limit so sounds like he was very drunk. Don't know if he'll plead guilty tommorrow but i'm hoping he does so that we don't have to go to court.

jenwa - i used to do exactly as pepper does with ds1 bottles and he was fine. i always have a tupperware beaker (with lid) of cold, boiled water in fridge in case i need to give some to Joe. Can you use the ready mixed if you are only giving occasionally?? its much easier and is about 50p a carton. iirc the powder has to be used within 4 weeks of opening and they are big tins (and expensive!!)

csws - i didn't know that about soy and i had looked at getting some emergency soy formula for Joe - glad i didn't now. Joe doesn't seem bothered by me drinking soya but i'm not sure if it will affect his fertility by having my breastmilk if i've drunk soya. i don't have a lot - a little in tea and on cereal in morning......

honeymoonmummy - i can barely get one finger in my bellybutton but my muscles are crap - what do i do???? don't worry about tummy time with reflux - ds1 never went on his tummy as he screamed immediately and was always sick with reflux. once he got to 6 months it cleared up and he was fine with tummy time. he crawled on time etc. Joe is not phased by being on his tummy but also doesn't bother to lift his head either. he waves his arms and legs for a bit, then just lies there, cooing at us. i think he's a lazy one - just like his mother....off to eat crisps and watch telly - no fitness dvd for me no way!!

Gosh, lots of messages today!

Jenwa - agree that those toys are all lovely but unnecessary, as they won't last for very long. If you're after something along those lines though, then did you see this that I've linked a couple of times now? It's shown there in its first stage, but then becomes a piano at sitting height (ds was playing his in his bumbo today) and then a piano at standing height. We got over 2 years of use from it with dd, which is good value for about £20.
As for lying on laminate floor, stick a folded over towel, or her change mat down for her to lie on .

We will get ds Christened, most likely in the spring/summer, so that we can throw a big garden party afterwards, as we did for dd. We didn't have hers until she was 17 months old, because she was so unsettled as a baby. She wanted to play in the font and burn the church down with the candles . There's a gorgeous (IMO ) pic of her on her Christening day on my profile.

Honeymoon - you're welcome to come to dd's party if you want to! There will be a bouncy castle, which I'm sure is a much more fun form of exercise than Davina!

Glad you found the tickets Ronshar, and that NKOTB were good. Am sure that the night out will have done you some good .

loulou - same thing happened in our village last year re drink driving. We are friendly acquaintances with the guy who was drink driving. Don't know what happened in the end - must ask the gossip at the village post office next time I'm in! Drink driving is stupid and dangerous, and if he gets away with it this time then the chances are that he'll do it again, so I'm glad that you did the right thing.

loulou - I doubt that you drinking a bit of soy would affect Joe's fertility. I certainly hope not, as I have soya milk at the moment too (although I drink very little milk anyway).

Had a nice day today. Went to soft play centre with friends this morning (friend confided that she is pregnant again - that's 3 friends in the space of a week!), and did lots of painting and glueing with dd this afternoon. Not my favourite activity, but was nice to have some quality time with dd, whilst ds got to just sit and watch us whilst chewing his hands/a muslin and playing his piano.

OP posts:
jenwa · 25/01/2009 21:51

csws my friend lent me that piano for dd1 so will see if she has it still . I do put a blanket on floor with her activiy/play gym on it but just dont feel she is stimulated enough (very bascc - play gym red and black) and we had carpet with dd1 so could just put her anywhere really and lye on floor with her. I think it is a bit of a guilt thing in having more one on one time with dd1 then I do with dd2. I feed her at night in her room now and make it a sort of play and feed and put to bed so we get some quality time without the danger of putting her on the floor downstairs with dd1 ballet dancing around her and dog lying in the playgym .

I took photos of dds clothes today to ebay but then felt broody I think (hopefully) that it was because they were all so sweet and lovely and I know they wont get worn again

csws so will the pregancy thing be catching you know what they say about sitting in the same place as other pregnant people When I found out I was pregnant we all blamed it on the bench at playgroup as there were about 6 of us who got pregnant in a short space of time!!! (obviously I know it was not really the bench )

pistachio I used to go the gym then get chips on the way home or chocolate my treat for doing exercise!! hehe!!

jenwa · 25/01/2009 22:00

OMG and there is already a due Oct 09 thread!!!!!! that was us last year but for a babies now of course!

star6 · 26/01/2009 06:42

loulou I hope that al works out for you. Wht a total PITA. I've been dying to use that expression for a couple weeks now.... ever since I saw myjob use it, had no idea what it meant and spent a good 10 minutes laughing about the pita bread..

csws do you know if ds doesnt want 10/11pm dream feed 2 nights in a row, does that mean milk will not be there the next night if he wants it? Worried I should be expressing then instead of letting it go...
also, sucking on muslin - ds does taht too, wasn't sure if it was acceptable/safe, but he loves it

AND Q is grabbing at toys!!! On PURPOSE!!! Yeah!!! He even turned a page in a board book yesterday while we were reading to him on a few different books! He closed one

Honeymoonmummy · 26/01/2009 09:46

Loulou- thanks re tummy time. Re YOUR tummy time (see what i did there?? ), you should hold your tummy with your hands while doing sit ups. i cant really see why myself, what is keeping your hands there gonna stop???

CSWS bouncy castle you say? I'm sooo there, good job my pelvic floor is OK

I had a bit of a milk shortage problem yesterday, had to get 3oz out of the freezer, I hope it was just cos Poppy slept a lot and therefore didnt eat as much the day before...

star6 · 26/01/2009 09:54

It's not tummy I'm so concerned about it's this little bit extra on the side of my tummy (obliques?) that I'm furious with at the moment. Been doing some oblique exercises and it's been working, but just don't want any extra there, thank you. I wish I could transfer it to my boobs or bum (seem to be lacking in those areas ).

ronshar · 26/01/2009 10:53

Star I have plenty of bum to spare. I dont mind sharing.

Took all the children swimming yesterday. What a nightmare. They all loved it including William. It was his first swim, so pleased it went well.
Have any of you tried washing your hair while holding a slippery wiggly baby boy? Well I dont recommend it

Honneymoonmummy. A suggestion if you are worried about babies ears while swimming. Dont buy ear plugs. Try using a ball of cotton wool smothered in vaseline. Does the trick nicely.

Honeymoonmummy · 26/01/2009 13:10

Star if you don't get enough from Ronshar, I have some spare too, especially after going to the chip shop for lunch

Thanks Ronshar, we were gonna go today but I went to the Baby Cafe for the first time instead - first time bf ing in "public" yay! Altho it was in front of lots of other bf ing mums, so not the biggest breakthrough ever...

Swimming is therefore planned for tomorrow. Wish me luck!! We had our first big bath together last night, she seemed to like that so hopefully will like swimming.

jenwa · 26/01/2009 17:12

loulou bottle feeding all the time so too expensive for cartons. Think will carry on like have been (and you and pepperhave done), DD1 was fine and DD2 seems fine. Just quite a scary thread on it and people getting angry that bottles are not made when required! I am not going back into that thread.

csws liking the bouncy castle, hoping your pelvic floors are ok for it

star I wish I could get my belly into my boobs, I need more up top. Bum is fine, just needs to firm up and I dont really see it as its behind me so not to bothered

jenwa · 26/01/2009 17:13

honeymoon chips and mayo......yum......
i got pizza for tea not really healthy although I will justify myself and say it is a loaded veggie one so surely that makes it ok

star6 · 26/01/2009 17:18

making rissotto here... luckily i dont like chip shops. but loooooovvvveeee chocolate!!!

jenwa · 26/01/2009 19:49

never met anyone who does not like chip shops !!! You cant beat chips in paper

ronshar · 26/01/2009 21:17

Chips with vinegar, yum yum.

Honeymoon, good luck with the swimming. Have you been swimming with a child/baby before? I def dont want to be patronising but a few simple things can make the difference between a happy baby in water or a screaming baby!
I always start off holding baby very close up against my face so they can always see you. Try not to let any water splash in poppy's face. I know you would know this anyway.
I did the little dippers course with DD1 all those years ago. It was fab. Nothing like seeing your 5 month old baby swimming under water. Sorry if you already knew all this. But I know how scary it is taking a small wiggly baby into a big noisy pool
Congrats on the public feeding, always a bit awkward at first. I dont care who sees the roll over my trousers any more. Let them look
