Evening, I am happy we have moved on from the diet talk. It will only make me feel even more guilty about my real lazy behaviour.

DS hasnt made a break for freedom yet by rolling over from his back but will flip over from his front, but that is quite easy for babies from a very early age.
He will sit in his swinging chair for 15 mins on his own it has to be swinging pretty fast. We also have a fisher price floor thing that is activated when he moves, that is quite popular for a little while.
Mostly the poor boy has to talk to his mad mother alot. We have had some lovely chats the past few days, although DH was questioning whether 11pm last night was the best time for a big conversation.

Ekka, I remember my DD1 getting a lump on the back of her head, cue a mad rush to GP who just looked at me and shook his head. He told me that as a nurse I really should know the positions of the glands on the body. I dont rush to the doctors for anything now.

ronshar · 21/01/2009 22:32

Wow thats a really cool tv CSWS.

Marthasmama · 21/01/2009 23:12

Oh dear. Poor DD seems to be a bit rubbish at wiggling then. She hates tummy time so much that all she does is scream and rub her face into the floor. She is very strong but now I'm worried that she's not rolling yet, certainly not even trying when she's on her front. I do try to get her to have tummy time, but she gets so upset that I spend twice as long calming her down afterwards. I feel so guilty making her lie on her front!

Oh and I have magically lost half a stone! I don't know how, I wasn't really trying. But hurrah anyway!

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/01/2009 07:58

Sleep, sleep, my kingdom for some sleep!
Got ds to bed at 8, he woke 8:40. Got him back to bed at 9. He woke for a feed just before midnight, back to bed 12:30, woke for another feed and nappy change 3am, back to bed about 3:25, woke again 4:15, tried winding but nothing obvious causing a problem, so fed again a bit, but was v squirmy. Put him to sleep on my bed instead of Amby, but still squirmy and unsettled. Eventually went off, only to wake about 50 mins later. By now it's 5:40am and I still have no clue what's wrong, but he's acting like he might want to get up! He goes unswaddled into Amby on back with a mobile on for entertainment whilst he munches his hands. After a while he is clearly tired so I pick him up and he brings up a bit of milk (cause he was so flippin full of the stuff!), swaddle again and try walking him about - he screams! Lots. I hate him screaming because I don't want dd woken. Eventually since he's screaming anyway, I put him in the Amby and bounce him in there til he goes to sleep. It's now 6:50. Dd gets up at 7:03.
Think I barely managed 4 hours sleep amongst all that.
I guess he hasn't quite sussed this resettling thing yet. No idea if he'd have been better in bed or not, but he really needs to get used to the Amby, so I guess we'll keep on trying.

MM - don't worry about rolling/tummy time too much. Dd wasn't particularly early in rolling (iirc she could sit before she rolled regularly) and hated tummy time, but was crawling at 7 months, cruising at 8/9 and walking before 11.

I hope that dh didn't go to work in just hiking socks pepper. That would be the time to worry!

Morning all
I fell asleep feeding Tilly-Grace in the night but soon woke up when she bit me really hard Bloody teething!
Taking the 3 youngest out to the market on dp's bus this morning, will be going to the chocolate factory to restock the sweetie tin
myob Tilly-Grace is only just going into 0-3 clothes and is 13 weeks today, so i think she will be petite like dd2. At least they have both got wear out of their newborn stuff, dd3 was too big to begin with and it all went to waste
Hope all mums and babies have a lovely day today

star6 · 22/01/2009 10:14

Hi everyone
Congrats on the TV CSWS
DS likes tummy time (when he feels like it) and isnt' rolling. Early on he rolled front to back but not since (I think he's too fat now ).
I'm incredibly tired at the moment, barely functioning at work, although DS is sleeping LOADS better. WHen he wakes at night we just pat back and put in pacifier still and he is fine. He slept last night 8pm-11, fed ("dream feed" 11-11.30) then slept until 5am with wakings at 1.30, 2, 3, 3.30, 4.45 in which DH or I patted him back to sleep. He doens't get out of the cot after his dream feed until earliest 4.45am, it works! I am up at 5.15 to shower and get ready and we need to leave home by 6.45, which means getting coats on, bags together at 6.30am. It's working out, I'm just really tired.
The CO has helped him a lot and he's a much happier, more calm baby now.

I think I have thrush on my nipples again. They hurt so much when he latches on and all through feeds and expressing is a nightmare - they are very red and actual blood spots after expressing most times. But I have to keep on it so he can eat during the day. He's had to have formula some days at last feed before I see him because haven't been able to express enough day before (stress...whatever reason).

Sorry, just feeling tired today.
I hope everyone has a great day!

ronshar · 22/01/2009 10:41

Star you are doing a miraclulous job. You need to really take care of yourself. Are you still aneamic?
I know you are a vegetarian but would it be completely against everything you hold sacred to maybe eat meat for a couple of weeks to get your iron levels up. I used to be a vegetarian so dont shoot me. I had to stop because I just didnt get enough iron from a non meat diet. Probably because I didnt eat enough of anything back then. It sounds like you really need an energy boost from somewhere.
Keep at it love, before you know it Q will be a big strapping lad who refuses to get off the sofa because he is watching some Disney rubbish on TV (if my 9 year old DD1 is anything to go by)

star6 · 22/01/2009 11:21

Thanks ronshar. Can't bring myself to eat meat yet... but will consider trying something not so strong tasting I eat LOADS of iron rich foods combined with vitamin C, but doesn't seem to be helping much.
Oh no! I don't want him to be 9 years old yet!! lol. I love having a baby But still just want one. So I want to make every minute count.

aubergenie · 22/01/2009 11:36

Oh Star, No wonder you're tired, you poor thing. I'm a primary teacher too and I know how much it takes it out of you even without a small baby waking you up all the time. Do you ever hop into bed when Q goes to sleep at 8 just to get a few extra hours? Great news about the CO, BTW.

CSWS - You're trying to do what I should be doing, getting ds to sleep in the amby. We had a waking pattern similar to yours last night, so I just kept him in with me because I'm too lazy to do the whole settling back to sleep thing (and I love having him cuddled next to me, even though it's doing my back in!). I really should address the issue though...

Thanks for all the feedback about interaction by the way. I'd been thinking about it a lot. I know how important it is to chat and play with your LO, and you really notice the children who start school and haven't had that, but I also think it's important to encourage children to amuse themselves without someone dangling something in their face all the time, and I'm not sure I always get the balance right.

pepperrabbit · 22/01/2009 11:52

Can i join in the no sleep at all competition? DD just wouldn't settle at all last night till just after midnight when I finally got her off to sleep, then DS1 woke up the whole house shouting for Mummy at 1am He shares with DS2 so desperately try to keep him quiet - after I got up to him 8 times between 1 and 4 then DD woke for her feed - DS1 screaming again (and I'd run out of legal doses of calpol/nurofen/medised by then ) I had to wake DH cos just couldn't deal with both of them at once.
So DS1s in bed with us by 4.30am, at 5 I sent him back to his room with my hotwater bottle and we slept blissfully till 6.15....
Anyhow, chocolate biscuits are helping, and DS1 now has antibiotics cos it's an ear infection .
Boy do I look rough today
At least we all had clean clothes to go to the doctors in!

star6 · 22/01/2009 12:44

aubergenie - I hear you on the interaction thing. Sometimes I think I do dangle things in front of him and entertain him too much. He does need to learn to amuse himself somewhat (can't seem to do it at all ). But agree that it's so important to have had significant interaction when babies as well. it's a tough one!

I do get into bed at 8 with Q almost every night but then I feel like I'm neglecting DH a bit and our relationship. I don't want to end up having our relationship deteriorate or us taking eah other for granted and have everything go wrong just because I want a few hours of sleep... can't get that balance right either!

pepper - sounds like a total nightmare. I'm much more grateful for my circumstances with just one little baby after reading that! You poor thing! 8 times!!

star6 · 22/01/2009 12:50

just correction - I don't get into bed WITH Q - next to Q - he sleeps in the cot. Not anything wrong with co sleeping, but I think it would make me even more exhausted b/c when I have slept with him on me or next to me, I'm up all night fretting about the possibility of a blanket or an arm smothering him (I know there are ways around this, I'm just much too much of a worrier!!)

pepperrabbit · 22/01/2009 14:11

star - to put it in perspective, the doctor pointed out that I last took DS1 in to see them in 2005!!! as he's only 4.5 that makes him quite low maintenance in general .
There's no way I could have kept going with the breastfeeding as you have, so I think you've done amazingly well. I'd say you should concentrate on getting sleep - but maybe perhaps at the weekend have a "late" night up and spend some quality time with DH?

Marthasmama · 22/01/2009 15:18

Star - you will get time as a couple again, I promise! Could you not get someone to take DS for a couple of hours at the weekend and go for lunch together or the cinema? I find little things really help. Or even go for a walk together, with DS in his pram. DS will let you know if he's had enough of you entertaining him and will learn how to amuse himself once he can play with toys more actively.

Pepperrabbit - I'm amazed you managed to string a sentence together after the night you had!

I'm not going to tell you about my night as you'll all throw rocks at me . I looked up DS's baby book to see when he started rolling and he didb't do it until he was 4 months so less worried now. I have spent all day playing on the floor with DD, who is asleep now (teach me to say NEVER) but she is so grumpy it wasn't much fun. Her cheek has been bright red all day and she has been gnawing anything that goes near her!

Honeymoonmummy · 22/01/2009 17:25

Oh dear CSWS/ Pepper, what a nightmare! Or not!! Poppy took her time going to sleep last night but then slept 7-8 hours, and is doing that fairly regularly now

I fell asleep in bed feeding Poppy for the first time since she's been put in her cot, oops!

CSWS, this is probably a stupid question, but have you tried putting DS in a cot? POppy hated her moses but took to the cot immediately, like 6 hours sleep on the first night. We have the legs raised due to the reflux.

Poppy's been weighed today she's put on 10lbs in 9 days!!

I'm off to Manchester to catch up with some colleagues tomorrow, lunch at Pizza Express yum!

star6 · 22/01/2009 18:01

honeymoon! did you really mean 10lbs in 9 days?

Honeymoonmummy · 22/01/2009 18:02

Ha ha! Um...ozs?
Bloody baby brain!!

Marthasmama · 22/01/2009 18:05

That would be impressive! Heh heh. My friend, who's DD is also 3 months old, has just announced that she now weighs..... 18lbs 1! My DD is nice and juicy, but my friend's bub is more than 4lbs heavier than her! She's already in 6-9 months clothes and some 12 months clothes!!!!

SmudgeyDoodle · 22/01/2009 22:09

Evening all. i'm with the no sleep club and absolutely shattered. Been away for 2 nights and I' don't think either DS or DD appreciated being away from home. I'm just posting now to signpost where I've read to. Hope everyone ok and has better nights. We've started giving DD a dummy as it seems to settle her through the day for sleeps but through the night it just seems to irritate her. Going to bed now.

Ekka · 22/01/2009 22:28

Hi all, just checking in.... Star, poor you. I couldn't cope with work this early on, with the sleep deprivation, you are amazing! I'd second the suggestion of having a 'late' night up with DH on weekends. Maybe in the afternoon though try having a nap when Q does, so that you will be able to keep your eyes open in the evening once he's asleep....

MM - 18lb !!!! I know that my mum is always going on about how much we weighed (26lbs at age 1, when dd was only just 24lbs age 18mths) but that sounds HUGE! I was pretty surprised today when I met up with a friend whose ds is the same age. He is the same weight as Matthew (13lb2), but looks much bigger. I'm thinking Matthew must have 'heavy bones' lol...

Smudgey, Pepper & Star - you are putting my lack of sleep into perspective! I was complaining to dh that Matthew will not sleep longer than 3 hrs, but at least dh gets up to deal with dd if she wakes so I am a lucky woman .

CSWS - congrats on the TV!

We finally settled ds without feeding him to sleep tonight (well I tried that, but he woke up, so I needed another plan ) it only took about 1 hr of bouncing on the birthing ball with him over my shoulder, me patting his back ... but its a start

Interaction - well, most of the time its probably in the 80-90% range but I've been a bad mummy this week and kind of avoided much interaction with both of them . We've been doing things like supermarket shopping, tumbletots, toddler group, where I'm not on my own with them and there are other people to help take the strain. Got friends round tomorrow pm as well.... I've just been feeling rough this week, so not much patience/ingenuity when it comes to entertaining dcs....

On that note (and having just done several enormous sneezes) I'm off to bed to feel sorry for myself. Had some guinness earlier (with the excuse that it is rumoured to help milk production ) and now regretting it... Night all.....

star6 · 23/01/2009 05:34

OK 10 oz!!! Honeymoon I was imagining a baby that you could actually WATCH grow over 9 days

star6 · 23/01/2009 05:37

Thanks for idea re: the weekend. Thats a good plan. I think "late" might be 9pm, though

Morning all
Nother rough night here, DD just can't breathe evn with vaporiser so she's not drinking much then gets hungry more often...
Interaction - today DD is watching TV and DS1 and I are arguing over who gets to use the computer "because I'm Mummy" is my current winning gambit.
I think my maternal urges really kicked in the day I successfully taught DS1 to find CBeebies using the remote control by himself.
Supposed to be going to a party tomorrow night - not even the studious application of Clarins + lycra is going to have me looking perky

Honeymoonmummy · 23/01/2009 11:02

Morning all! I hate to tell you this as I value my cyber-life too much, but Poppy slept for a massive 11 HOURS last night!!!!!

CSWS I received the swim nappy this morning, thanks very much! I tried my swimming costume on last night and didnt look as truly horrific as i thought i would so we may have our inaugural swim next week! The toddler pool is 30 degrees, will she be too hot this?
