If you've signed up and registered your dc with MN then you get emails from time to time with what they 'should' be doing too.

Lol at this from that site honeymoon 'At three months, babies are starting to become fascinated with animals and insects' - how the fuck do they decide this?! Sorry, but it sounds like some random non-fact that they've made up so that they can shove a game about butterflies in!

Oh myjob - hugs for you too. Are you a member of freecycle? There's normally lots of baby stuff up for grabs on there.
I presume the trampoline wouldn't fit inside to keep it safe overnight?

loulou33 · 17/01/2009 21:24

where are you myjob - sounds like your in the middle of a hurricane if you can't go outside?? its very windy here and we are expecting winds of 80-100mph. Have candles and torches at the ready as we usually lose power for a while. Have bought enough food to last a lifetime as also expecting snow tomorrow...

CSWS - your bathseat looks a bit uncomfy if you don't mind me saying so the fabric one is dead good although you have to fill the bath up a lot so that its in the water. Joe has a bath with ds1 so its not a problem but wouldn't use it if Joe was having bath on his own iyswim. Hurray for your seven hours sleep that's fab. DS1 slept for about an hour last night as his cough is still bad. Ironically Joe was the only one who got a decent night's sleep bless him

Off to find the batteries for the monitor and hope you all stay safe tonight....

Aw, I'm so sorry Myjob . Re CSWS's links to toys - do you go to NCT sales/ car boot sales? You'd be surprised what you can pick up.

CSWS - did you not hear about The Great Baby Butterfly Test of 1967???

I don't think too much/ cheeky if she's already offered. I did the same with my mum and dad for Christmas.

Honeymoonmummy · 17/01/2009 22:06

Oh sorry CSWS, baby brain! That would be very good of you, thanks. Sorry to ask but was it - um - soiled at all??

Honeymoonmummy · 17/01/2009 22:08

I've only been doing the dummy thing half-heartedly, I keep thinking why am I bothering if I've managed so far without, she sucks her fist occasionally (with the MOST disgusting sucking noises, it's funny), but should I just leave the dummy till she starts to find her thumb or will it be too late by then and should I therefore perservere?

CantSleepWontSleep · 17/01/2009 22:09

Ah yes, I'd heard that '67 was a very good year for butterflies .

Anchored is promising myjob . Am keeping my fingers crossed for you and will need an update in the morning.

Agree with honeymoon that it's not too cheeky to ask if she's offered. I'm sure she'd rather buy something that you think she'd enjoy.

Not such a good year for butterflies actually, the babies kept eating them...

Definite morning update required, I agree!

CantSleepWontSleep · 17/01/2009 22:17

No it wasn't soiled, but it would have washed out fine even if it had been. There's a huge second hand nappy market out there you know .

She might not find her thumb either - dd has never sucked her thumb or used a dummy.

myjob - you could look on ebay for an activity station (or whatever it was that took your fancy) 2nd hand and local to you - that would save some more money for you/your mum. I just did a search on the one that we have, and there are a few available, some at good prices at the moment - see here.

Sorry but had to ask! I'm a bit funny about sh1t like that!

I'll give up on the dummy thing for now then. Altho I guess it will help with self-soothing, I'm also feeding/ walking Poppy to sleep at the moment. She won't go down on her own either, she cries immediately. Is it because she's still a little too young at 10.5 weeks? I've been thinking I'll get "tough" once the reflux sorts itself out...

Good news on the trampoline front!

Honeymoonmummy · 17/01/2009 22:41

Have just emailed you CSWS, thanks. I'm off to bed shortly, Poppy's been asleep for an hour already, wasting valuable zzz time!! Night night, fingers crossed we all have our roof tiles intact by the morning!

SmudgeyDoodle · 17/01/2009 22:51

Well I think it's great that some of the lO are sleeping so well but because DD isn't one of them! I think she's got/getting another cold and seems to be too full of snot to sleep on her own for the whole night. I gave up at 5.30 this morning and came downstairs with her. Feeling knackered but as I got my hair done this morning. DH brought DS in too and he got his first hair cut - 2 next month. He now looks really grown up and his hair is curlier than ever. Will post a picture when we get round to downloading them. DD charmed everyone at the hairdressers and has had a good day. She eventually went down at about 9pm so we're gradually getting there. Star it sounds like Q is getting the hang of sleeping on his own. Well done you! Honeymoon hope you have a good night with the sleeping bag. DD won't take a dummy either. She gags on it until you take it out. DS sucks his fingers, so we may as well have another one in the family Myjob - fingers crossed for your little trampoline. Not windy up here at all (for once!) I hope you're all alright and that the wind dies down. Right, really must go to bed. Good luck all....

SmudgeyDoodle · 17/01/2009 22:53

Oh forgot to tell you all. Tragedy this morning - our washing machine is broken!!! We're in a rented house but of course the letting agents weren't working today so we can't even tell them til Monday. Seeing as how I wash most days, I can see this building up quite fast.

star6 · 18/01/2009 09:03

myjob - I hope the trampoline is ok. I totally hear you about saving money...seems impossible!! feeling constantly worried about money, especially lately. I said I would raise amnt im paying friend in childcare b/c she's going through a difficult time, but regret i t - it's more than dh makes now (less than me) but barely getting by now I go to bed worried about money every night.
smudgey - I hope your washing machine gets fixed soon... can't imagine!
Honeymoonmummy - ds doesnt take "dummy" either. I hold it there - if awake he wont suck -in facts gags on it... like i've choked him but when just stirring from sleep, will suck suck suck and spit out. it's just the bit of sucking comfort her needs... chews on fists but cant find thumb welll (thank god - my sis is 37 and still sucks her thumb in bed! ). He's 15 weeks... not sure when he will have enough strength/control to hold it in.
CSWS - LOL at the insects/butterflies thing. That makes me feel better. I hate reading what he "should" be doing - even if they say he "might", I feel like he should be doing at least that. It's not his fault - sometimes I just feel like maybe I forgot to do some kind of exercise with him or something and as a mother, have let him down I know they all develop differently, just want to give him best chance, you know?

Marthasmama · 18/01/2009 09:41

Star, I don't think how much you do with them has much bearing on how quickly they develop. With our first we had no idea that they were meant to have tummy time so he had none, ever! He was trying to stand up at three months, sat up on his own at 5 months, crawled at 6 months and walked at 10! We tried to have little conversations with him, like they say to do when he was around 4 months, but he wasn't interested. By 18 months he had the verbal skils of a 3 year old and we couldn't shut him up! He was just fed up with being a baby. With DD we have done loads of playing etc, but she just enjoys sitting in her chair watching the world go by. I think it is more to do with the personality of your LO. They all get there in the end, but it is frustrating when they don't do what the guidelines say they should do. I know everyone will have said this, and I know you will still worry, but they are all different. Your LO may just be enjoying being a baby and taking his time!

Marthasmama · 18/01/2009 09:44

Oh and DD won't take a dummy and although she can find her thumb, often rams her whole hand down her throat. She then chokes, throws up and coughs for about twenty minutes. I don't expect she'd be doing that if she had good control! Or she might just take after her father and be an idiot!!!

star6 · 18/01/2009 09:46

Thanks MM.
I'm enjoying him being a baby, too, tbh. I love the little baby stage. I even miss the newborn days when I felt like nipples would fall off and couldn't leave the sofa. I cherish every single day with him, even when I'm up multiple times in the night, I just stare at him and think about how beautiful and amazing he is and how lucky I am to have him (we didn't struggle to conceive at all... in fact he was a surprise and a shock, but still so grateful all the same). Just want to do the best for him... but it sounds like no matter what you do, they will develop as they please . I'll just love him as much as possible!

star6 · 18/01/2009 09:49

ohhhhhhhhhh sh* f**.... sorry, don't usually curse much... been giving ds infacol before feeds to help with wind and he just vomited part of a feed and there's PINK in it (infacol is white). where is pink coming from???? of course this happens on a sunday when no drs are avail.
