Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Aubergenie · 14/01/2009 09:16

Honeymoon - I've been wondering about the next baby too. I'm really getting on (just turned 41 2 weeks after ds was born), so if we're going to do it, we're not going to have much of an age gap. I've got friends with children close together and I think you just have to go with the fact that your life is going to be a grind for a couple of years, but remember that it won't be for ever.

I have to accept that it may not happen, and I would be happy with just the one if that's the case, but I think I would like to have two if I can.

So, ladies who have more than one baby here's a question. Which is harder - going from 0-1 children or 1-2?

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/01/2009 09:29

Going 0-1 def much harder than 1-2.

Despite me being pretty happy with the age gap that we have, we did start trying for number 2 when dd was 9 months old, so we were theoretically aiming for (though not expecting given our history) an 18 month gap.

Aubergenie - that's the ergo under a different name .

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 14/01/2009 09:31

Yikes - that bath support says only up to 8kg, but ds is 7.22 already, so what would be the point?! Yet it says to 8 months - do they really expect 8 month olds to weigh less than 8kg .

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 14/01/2009 09:34

Mothercare reckon 6 months for the same weight.

Am thinking that this looks funky once ds is sitting though!

heather1980 · 14/01/2009 09:58

omg alex just fell off the bed!!!
he was still asleep when i woke up so left him in our bed. heard a thump then a cry, ran up and he was on the floor on his tummy about a foot away from the bed! i have no idea how he got there as he was on his back in the middle of a double bed ?!?
he's fine calmed down as soon as i picked him up.

we also have the ergonomical one, bought it for dd, alex loves it and means i can bath both of them at once.

Aubergenie · 14/01/2009 10:42

Ah, I thought it was similar! I hadn't realised about the weight as ours is second hand so didn't have a box or anything. We were also given a Tummy Tub which I was really excited about, but I didn't get on with it.

That sitting one looks really fun, doesn't it?

Heather - I'm glad Alex is OK, poor thing. Do you think he's just started to roll?

heather1980 · 14/01/2009 10:57

i think so. he's look like he was trying for a few days now. poo now he wont stay where i put him!!

Heather, thats it, your baby has officially entered into the phase where they scare the life out of you daily.
William nearly fell off the changing table the other day. I dont want to admit that he is no longer my tiny little baby! He is getting more mobile every day. I put him on the floor after his bath so I could wash the girls hair (3 in the bath, oh the joy). William managed to wiggle himself completly round the other way on to the cold hard floor. He was very proud of himself. Every time I turned him back we could hear the bang bang of his feet on the floor as he wiggled off again!

CSWS I hope your hearing test is a sucsess today.

We have a 5 year gap between DD1 & 2 and a 4 year gap between DD2 & DS. Brilliant, the girls are both pretty independant & DD1 is 9 so she is really helpful with DS.

I hope everyone has survived the cold. I wish we had more snow. I love the snow it is such fun for the kids (me really)

Aubergenie · 14/01/2009 13:18

Oh my god myjob. I can't quite bear to think about TTC JUST yet! But I do take your point. I think I'm happy to take my chances in a few months time and see what happens. It won't be the end of the world for me if we only have one.

Also, I'm assuming that BFing so regularly means that I'm not ovulating yet. Although a friend of mine got caught out that way...

pepperrabbit · 14/01/2009 13:33

Afternoon all,
Aubergenie. I agree with CSWS, 0-1 was sooo much harder than 1-2 (which seemed like a walk in the park tbh ) we had 21.5 month gap between the boys - though this meant a full year of 2 in nappies.
2-3 has been exhausting, far harder than I expected and DD is an absolute dream most of the time - 2.5 years after DS2.
I'll whisper this bit, DD has slept through 3 nights in a row. And we're talking 12 hours (with a dream feed at 10pm!!!!).
Am slightly disorientated!

Aubergenie · 14/01/2009 14:19

Pepper - I used to work with a woman who'd got 6 children and she said that once you get past 3 or 4 it doesn't make much difference. So you can take heart if you decide to have any more .

Congratulations on the sleeping through - you must be feeling like Superwoman after all that rest.

I'm stuck in the house waiting for some deliveries. DS sleeping loads (maybe due to CO visit?) There are tons of things I should be doing, but I just can't seem to get off Mumsnet!

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/01/2009 14:24

Bugger heather! Glad that Alex is ok, but you've now made me realise that I have no plan for when ds gets mobile, as at the moment we just plonk him in the middle of our bed a couple of hours or so before I go up. .

Still not using the cloth nappies much myjob, for no particular reason!

Well they were running 45 mins late with hearing tests again, so I had to stand up and sway all the time to keep ds asleep in the carrier. His left ear is fine, but they got no response from his right one. Not panicking yet though, as they said that because of his cold he might just have some fluid in it. This does, however, mean going back for a third time!

Hello everyone. Can I come and play too? I had been looking for the Oct08 board but must have been looking in the wrong place as I couldn't find you. My DD was born on 9th October 2008 and is currently very grumpy as she has just had her second jabs . I feel liek I've missed a lot but hopefully I can catch up.

jenwa · 14/01/2009 15:29

Well the asda shop came and it was all ok. Just annoyed about the stress of it all and the attitude of them making me look stupid and tellin me some one owuld have phoned me, well I was in ALL day and no one called and they still say "someone would have tried" DOH!!!! No missed call, no messgae, how is that trying! ANyway aubergenie it was all ok in the end so maybe give it a go. I usually do tescos but fancied a change. Lovely huge pizzas though at asda

We have ergo bath seat, had for dd1, we used baby bath and realised it was too heavy and to much bending and no hands free, dd1 went in ergo seat and just was lay in it whilst we sat on floor by bath and had hands free, its best invention especially when both dd's can bath together now.

Looking at getting new buggy for dd2 when she little bigger, thinking maclaren quest and seems to have good write up. What do others have?

And also DD2 sleeping through since xmas although have afew nights were she wakes and I get up about 5 times to put dummy in and eventually she falls back to sleep. She is awak now so off to feed her. Hoping to put her in her own room tonight as all sorted now and DH may get ideas but have just received my first period since dd2 born! So there goes any ideas he may have!!!!

Also dd2 got cradle cap...going to get the oil and mascara comb on it this afty, will have a flake fountain I think {hmm] (eek)

Honeymoonmummy · 14/01/2009 16:38

Heather OMG! I'm dreading that day!!

Welcome Martha! You'll soon catch up

I thought I'd got away with the first injections yesterday with no symptoms but Poppy's been so grizzly this afternoon, I've given her some calpol altho her temp was OK, should've seen the look on her face to taste something other than milk or gaviscon! She still hasnt settled down even with the calpol, am currently bf'ing her, that usually works for everything!

Ha ha CSWS, I was thinking the same thing re Pepper!
I'd like to meet the person who said newborns sleep for 15 hours a day and punch him or (unlikely) her in the face

Honeymoonmummy · 14/01/2009 16:42

Oh, what age can you use the Bumbo from? I got mine from a friend so no instructions. Poppy is 10 weeks and can hold her head fairly well.

jenwa · 14/01/2009 17:15

I think bumbos are when they usually about 4months? Sort of able to sit supported, prob little too early yet.

heather1980 · 14/01/2009 17:31

alex goes in his now at 13 weeks, i think its when they have head control

Marthasmama · 14/01/2009 18:27

The guidelines say four months but it must depends on the baby. My LO HATES her Bumbo so I'm going to leave her for a while and try it again later. My friend's LO is five days older and absolutely loves hers. I got a Bloom Baby highchair so I can talk to DD in the kitchen when I am doing stuff. She loves that so I am asuming that she doesn't like the feeling of sitting without the support. Saying that though, she does spend most of her life trying to sit up!

Do any of you know when bfed babes are allowed to start going for longer than 6 hours without a feed? Mine has slept through a couple of nights and slept for seven hours and I am wondering whether I should have woken her up. Not that I think she'll do it again!!!

Honeymoonmummy · 14/01/2009 18:40

I didnt know they couldn't go longer than 6 hours!! Not that it happens very often!

Marthasmama · 14/01/2009 18:53

That's the thing, I'm not sure if it applies to them anymore! My LO was a bugger with the BFing at first, lost a pound in 4 days, ended up with jaundice and had to go to the special care unit for tests at 5 days. The nurses there told me that I needed to wake her up every three hours to feed her and to top her up with formula (which I didn't do, I just BFed). My midwife (who is FANTASITC and I miss loads) said as long as she didn't go for more than 6 hours, I could leave her to sleep if she needed it. I think it's probably ok to leave them longer now, but just wanted to make sure. My son didn't sleep through until he was 8 months and on solids so I was just wondering....... Hope I didn't worry you!!!! Sorry if I did!

Honeymoonmummy · 14/01/2009 19:15

I'm sure there'll be someone else on here who knows. I know what u mean re conflicting info, I've been told by a HV and doc to give orange for constipation and by another HV that this is not a good idea.... all from the same clinic!!
