Oh I am so annoyed, spent ages doing an asda shop sat to come today as norm do tescos, anyway, it never tunred up as there was a prob and no one rang me had to call to be told it had been cancelled Well I was not impressed and was really annoyed with them and its now coming tomorrow, but I stayed in today for it and had a mega tidy as friend coming with her children for tea and now they cancelled (which to be honest usually happens) but what a shitty day! Stayed in and tidied for no reason and still got no bleeding shopping! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Better come tomorrow or we will be grazing out side

star6 · 12/01/2009 19:02

Bringing Q to CO tomorrow.
Would not be put down all morning, needed to be held all the time and in movement (couldn't hold him sitting down or standing still). Only had 2 20 minute sleeps and was in a fairly good mood in the afternoon until I got there to get him... was happy and smiley at home... feeding lots. Now crying as DH tries to settle him after his feed with me. not working. he's having to walk around the bedroom carrying him.

That's a good idea Myjob, I'll ask if i can do that. Just expressing for first time in 3 weeks, woke up with a couple of "Pammies" this morning!

Poppy feeds for about 2-3 hours in the evening and is not taking to a dummy... I'm not sure how I'm ever gonna get an evening out!!

Aubergenie · 13/01/2009 08:51

Jenwa - How annoying! Are Asda normally that rubbish? They've recently started delivering in our area and I was thinking of doing a shop with them. I can relate - I went to the supermarket on Sunday and did a shop, it was hell in there, I queued up, got to the desk and realised I'd forgotten my purse. So we had pasta for dinner. Again.
I went to a parent and baby screening of Slumdog Millionaire yesterday. I'm so glad I did it, as it was really fun. Ds was absolutely fine - fed, slept and watched a bit of the film. I wondered if it would be really noisy in there, but I found that if it's not my baby crying, I can block it out!

Good luck with the CO today Star. I'm taking DS to our one today too.

Honeymoon - we never used a wetsuit and just went in normal pools. If they start getting cold, you can always take them in the shower to warm up. The first time we took DS swimming we both went and it was a real outing. I think it took us longer to get ready than the time we actually spent in the pool! My tip would be to take two towels for LO. One to wrap them in straight from pool and then one to actually dry them on.
CSWS how did the night go in the end? Poor you if you've got teething problems already. DS didn't have any teeth til 14 months but we thought he was starting from about 4 months with all the dribble!
Ekka - DD has got dry skin across her forehead and I was putting oil on it but decided that was making it worse. Last night I put some sudacrem on it and am planning on just using vaseline during the day. I know that I am allergic to lanolin so don't want to use any creams that have that in. I think vaseline is ok as I've never had any problems.... Jenwa, I hope your shop turned up. about your friends not turning up but at least your house is tidy!
Aubergine - cinema sounds great. I kept meaning to go with DS but never got round to it.
What time is everyone getting their LO to bed for the night? DD is really laid back but seems to still be a night owl. She didn't settle til 11pm (wide awake, happy and smiley) and slept through with occasional feeds til 11am! This included me waking her up at 9am to get nappy changed and dressed and then take DS to nursery. She just fell asleep again in car seat. Do you reckon she'll shift on her own or should I be waking her up and entertaining her in the morning so she needs to sleep?

CantSleepWontSleep · 13/01/2009 12:29

Smudgey - the last few nights we've been trying to get ds to bed between 7 and 8, but if you are happy to have her up til 11 then don't worry about other people!
Who knows what will happen re bedtime here tonight, as dh is away again so can't stay with dd whilst I get ds off first. Will prob mean dd will go up first, ds will cry lots and mummy will need wine once they are both eventually off .

Poor ds appears to have a cold now to add to his woes. He was snuffling and snorting all night, and didn't sleep at all well as a result. Dd also has her cough back, and sicked up lots of mucousy milk when coughing this morning. I just can't clean up other people's sick without retching myself - lovely! Ds has fought sleep all morning, worked himself into a right state, had calpol, thrown up because he'd swallowed so much air whilst screaming, and is now fast asleep and snuffling in my arms look calm and adorable again.

We went out and bought a new rocker chair for him this morning. Am taking a leaf out of pepper's book and having one for upstairs and one for downstairs, as it will make life easier, esp when dh is away. Was amazed when browsing them online last night at how many of them only go up to 20lbs. Ds is nearly 16lbs already (weighed this morning), so would outgrow one of those is no time. I got him this one which should last a good while instead. Anyone else have it? Now just need a few mins without holding ds so that I can put it together. Have made a start, but had to hunt for a screwdriver, as dh has hidden the one that we keep in the kitchen drawer with interchangeable heads (a marvellous invention).

Also bought a karvol vapouriser, in the hope that it will aid ds' sleep tonight.

Aubergenie - you've had me investigating our local (ish - tis half an hour away) cinema that does parent and child screenings. They call it 'The Big Scream' . I never went with dd because she screamed constantly, but would be happier to brave it with ds. Disappointingly they only do it on a Thurs morning, and I have dd then too, so can't make it .

Honeymoon - hate to break it to you, but I didn't get a night out until dd was 9 months!! She was a bottle and cup refuser though, so you may have more luck with Poppy.

Sorry for long drivelly post, but you guys are about the only 'conversation' I will get today, and I can't do a lot else with ds asleep on me!

Honeymoonmummy · 13/01/2009 16:36

MyJob you are a GENIUS!!! I bf'd Poppy during the injections, she opened her eyes, gave a piercing scream for about half a second then realised she was wasting eating time and got back to it!! I'm not sure if its commonly done in our area, the nurse seemed pretty impressed with how it worked, she may well pass the word now!

Smudgey good tip re the towels, thanks. I might wait till she's 12 weeks cos the woman at the swim classes said they are normally 12lbs or 12 weeks before they start. Re the sleeping, I've started setting my alarm for 8 am this past week, no matter how bad the night is, and giving her a bath at 7pm then getting in our bed to side feed with a dimmed light for the rest of the night. Also I've been trying to take her for a walk every afternoon. It seems to be working, she slept for a whopping 9.25 hours straight last night!!!! She tends to go to sleep sometime between 9.30 and midnight; its been closer to the 9.30 since I started the "routine". In fact, she keeps falling asleep during Big Brother....

Took her to be weighed as well today, she's put on 6 oz this week, 10lb 10oz now, it was a relief as she only put on 3oz the previous week.

CSWS I got the Fisher Price rainforest bouncer, she doesn't like it tho - typical! I'm hoping she'll grow into it. That is rather depressing re the night out CSWS, how did you get the gaviscon down her, (didnt you say she had reflux too?)

Dammit, if everyones going to the cinema I'm gonna go too!!!

I was horrible to DH again last night, it feels like I have constant PMT at the moment, and I was a moody cow when I had PMT!! I wonder if its a bit of post-natal depression...?

Ekka · 13/01/2009 19:14

Smudgey, lookslike sudacrem is ok for ds (I used it on some dry crusty bits I found in his neck creases ) but I used vaseline on his cradle cap & it made it go all yellow & weepy so I think I'll avoid using it again..... Poor little chap he is shedding skin like mad, all over all his outfits & is so rough to the touch .

For those of you with older dcs, do you manage to get your lo off to bed before them or isthe baby the last to bed? We seem to have settled into a sort of routine if dh is home where he puts dd to bed while I manage ds, but he'll be working long hrs over the next couple of months so I'm trying to work out how best to manage bedtime on my own!

SmudgeyDoodle · 13/01/2009 20:45

CSWS I reckon I'll have had a similar night to you tonight. DH is away. DD was sleeping downstairs whilst DS had his tea. He then bounded into the room and woke her up and she didn't stop screaming then until he was in bed. there was no point picking herup because she just wanted cuddles and i can't get DS out of the bath, dressed etc whilstholding her. it's hard though and not looking forward to next week when dh is away tue-fri. Ekka, my usual strategy is to try and feed dd whilst ds watches night garden or we read a book. she then usually sleeps for at least 30 mins giving me chance to get ds bathed. i hope cradle cap looking better. i think dd is a bit of cradle cap but the sudacrem seemed to calm it down and then the vaseline has kept it moist.it;s awful when thry look so sore but you can't do anything. i try to only give dd a bath about every 3 days but it depends on how much she has puked.

CantSleepWontSleep · 13/01/2009 21:08

Smudgey - our bedtimes would have been better if I hadn't been so cross about dd smearing poo all over 2 bathrooms, my bedroom and the landing this afternoon, as I discovered when I went upstairs after tea.

Ekka - dd (elder) had been going to bed first, but the last few nights I've put ds down first instead whilst dd either bathed or watched tv with dh. With dh away though I've put dd to bed first and then ds. I bathed them together then got ds ready whilst dd ran about and cleaned her teeth, then we all went to my room and dried dd's hair, then I took her up for a feed and bed and left ds in his Amby with a mobile on (lasted a whole minute before he started moaning), then came back and fed ds with lights off in bedroom and tried to settle him, interspersed with putting dd back to bed .

Had forgotten that ds has his next attempt at the newborn hearing screening tomorrow morning. I reckon there's about a 1% chance of him keeping still long enough for them to do it successfully.

How did you all get on with the COs today?

God, major respect for you lot with more than one!! I've been searching today for threads re a good age gap, I know its a bit early yet of course!!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 13/01/2009 21:54

What bath supports are you guys all using, and would you recommend them? I wanted the ergo one like in snowymum's video, but the shop didn't have one when I went in so I got the one with the towelling bit on it. It's good in some ways, but ds slips down it when he kicks, so ends up needing lifting back up every couple of mins at most. Do they slip down in the ergo too or not? Wondering whether to get one to save me getting cross with the one I have. Saw one in second hand shop for £3 the other week, and now wish that I'd bought it. Muppet.

The thread I was looking at seemed to be favouring an 18 month gap. The main problem with that seems to be that the older one will still be in nappies and not v independent. Apparently a 3 year gap is recommended by psychiatrists...

Honeymoonmummy · 13/01/2009 22:02

Oh and I don't know about bath supports, sorry. Poppy is still in a baby bath. DH did get a second hand bath support in an NCT sale but I don't know what it is (or where it is, come to think of it )

CantSleepWontSleep · 13/01/2009 22:06

lol Honeymoon! We have a 2 yr 8 month gap, and I have to say that I'd rather this than only 18 months. Although a small gap would be lovely in term of the children being close, you would miss out on a lot of good stuff with the elder one, and would prob have very little sleep for a while and be run ragged. You would also prob need a double buggy, whereas I haven't had to bother.

Thanks myjob - I think I will get one then.

Hmm, but I'm getting on (34) and don't want to leave it too long in case of fertility probs - and what if I want a third???

Honeymoonmummy · 13/01/2009 22:40

I'm just watching Derren Brown, anyone else watching it? How the hell did he do that note serial number thing???

heather1980 · 13/01/2009 23:39

we have a 2 year gap and it's lovely, ds was born 11 days before dds 2nd birthday. only a little bit of jealously at the beginning but they are great together now.
bedtime here can be as late as 1am. alex is a rubbish sleeper in the evenings 30 minutes at a time max, but he usually wakes at 6am for a feed then goes straight down again till at least 9am which is great.
had a really bad day today, my washer died a death. arrgggg i've sent it all over to my mums . i have a new one coming on thursday.
it was my birthday yesterday and dh bought me a beautiful eternity ring, it's too big so i've sent it back for resizing.

Ekka · 14/01/2009 08:55

Honeymoon - we have a 17month age gap & so far its working pretty well, though dd does occasionally have a stray foot etc which finds ds.... The nappies thing isn't too bad as I just make sure that when I'm changing one I do the other as well. But we've been lucky with ds - he is v laid back about things, if dd had been the second I don't know how I'd have coped as she was v high maintenance up to about 6 months. We are lucky that she was walking by 10-11 months so by the time ds was born she was pretty good at walking and being more independent round the house (though we have had to get a double buggy!). I'm also v lucky in that she goes to a childminder for 11 hours a week so that does help ease the load a bit .

Actually the worst bit about the age gap was while I was pg - it was much harder than having the two of them together

Aubergenie · 14/01/2009 09:10

Morning ladies, I hope you all had a good night.

CSWS - We had the towelling sling bath thing which was great when ds was tiny, but now that he's bigger we've got this one (although not in the lurid pink!). It was given to me by a friend and I really like it because it supports him under his arms so he can't slip down.

Myjob - Yes I'd definitely recommend the film.

Ds has had really bad cradle cap - really yellow and crusty. We tried olive oil to start with but have had to resort to Dentinox shampoo. It's working well. Two weeks on and it looks loads better.

Went to the cranial osteopath again yesterday. He was a bit unsettled afterwards so it's too early to tell the effect, but she seemed to think that his digestive system could be improved, so we'll see.
