lol csws was reading that thinking you had just spent and hour at gym then I was about to applaud you!

jenwa · 09/01/2009 21:50

loulou thank you. I will try saying something or suggest DH does! Its funny though as they all had children once and seem to forget the worst time possible is when they want to visit/ring .

Honeymoonmummy · 09/01/2009 23:00

Thanks all. I'm about to lost power in my laptop so quick post. Good to know it peaks at 16 ish weeks. Poppy has not regurgitated any more blood.

Star, don't worry about it, you've said yourself its the lack of sleep, it makes me really sensitive/ paranoid too. We're all just trying our best and I bet all these well-meaning people were just as lost as we are when they first did this!

KSal · 09/01/2009 23:32

Thanks loulou33 I think she may possibly be overeating... she's certainly
gaining very well. I have tried the things you mention with varying success, it just keeps coming... eventually its just clear liquid with white bits - yuck. You're right re the acid though - it seems that at the moment it bothers me more than it does her!

KSal · 09/01/2009 23:48

just uploaded a new picture of her - she's so smiley now, its fab!

star6 · 10/01/2009 07:29

Ksal gorgeous smile!

Thanks all I know she didnt mean to make me feel that way, she only gave me the advice because I asked her for it after she gave opinion and stressed that it was only her opinion and i have to do what my instincts tell me is best, but the thing is that I truly respect her opinion.
and I know her well.... know that she is thinking what we are doing isnt great even though she would DIE if heard me saying all this.
I just want her to enjoy him and him to enjoy her while m at work. some days he's not fussy at all. when he is its just bad

jrsqueak · 10/01/2009 09:59

Not posted for a while but have been lurking. Had a nightmare of a few weeks. Just before christmas he started vomiting, had a cold and was chesty. Took him to docs nothing wrong. This went on for 12 days - he got weighed and had dropped from 50th centile to 25th. On Xmas Eve he got diagnosed with a chest infection and hv came and weighed him on ny eve - still on 25th centile and is coming back this week. Other than that we are doing ok - started swaddling him again 2 nights ago and he is now sleeping better. night 1 he slept from 11 - 4.30, fed and slept till 8. last night i dreamfed him at 3.30 as was awake due to 2yo waking and he then slept till 8am

hiya

csws - i was amazed at how settled Joe has been, DS1 never spent more than 2 mins in his chair ever - feel a bit neglectful for leaving him so long in his gym .

my mother keeps telling me that the brightest children are the ones who are the hardest to look after as babies. i'm not sure if its true, i think she might be trying to make me feel better.

KSAL - it sounds like reflux if she spitting up so long after a feed that its just acid with a bit of milk in. it is really annoying and is a major laundry headache. at joe's worst i would feed him with a towel round him and me to protect our clothes. he's a bit better now but the towel saved me getting too stressed about the sick.. Also remember that it always looks like more milk has come up than actually does. One ounce of milk can go a very long way!!!!

Honeymoonmummy · 10/01/2009 18:46

God yes, our laundry bill must be huge! We go through at least 2 bibs a day! I double bib Poppy and have a towel on our bed and in her cot to cut down on sheet washing. Anyone got any other tips?

POppy's got her first vaccinations on Tuesday, what do i need to know?

I know I think I'm at an advantage cos I can ask you all what you've already been through! Altho it was pretty lonely on the pregnancy thread for a while...

Did u b/f in the surgery or wait till u got home? Will they let u do that?

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/01/2009 16:54

loulou - dd is a genius .

ds due his second set of jabs this week. He screamed/cried when he had his first set, but had some calpol when we got home, and slept more than usual that day. Def bf in the surgery if you need to calm Poppy down honeymoon.

I also have my 3 month post natal check with hv this week, despite not yet having had the 6 week check with the GP .

Took ds swimming for the first time today, as dh was taking dd and meeting some of our friends there. He didn't last very long before getting cold and hungry, but I think he mostly enjoyed it. He wasn't mad keen on me dunking him totally underwater, but I think it's a good thing to get them used to early on (if you try this, blow in their face first, as it makes them hold their breath and/or shut their eyes for a moment).

KSal · 11/01/2009 17:49

CSWS i took emma for her first swim today too! wish i'd done it sooner to be honest. She looked a little doubtful about the whole thing, but we're going again tomorrow - i've signed up for a course of lessons in someone's private pool so should be nice and warm! Doing the lessons is more a social thing for me though!

Honeymoonmummy · 11/01/2009 17:58

I've just started looking into swimming lessons too. I think I'm gonna take her along to the local toddler pool first to see how she gets on. Did u guys go into the main pool and did u get those wetsuits?

I have to keep Poppy still for 30 mins after a b/f tho, I'm gonna be in there for about 1.5 hours!! Ummm... dunno what to do. I'm only 5 mins from home.

KSal · 11/01/2009 20:04

I just swished her around in the baby pool - i think its a bit warmer than the main pool. We took her in about an hour and a half after she fed than had food at the ready for afetrwards. She was only in for about 10 minutes - I didn't want to push it! I didn't dunk her - i am quite keen to, but i figure i'll let the expert show me how first!

She was just in a little cossie (very cute and probably not necessary) and a swim nappy.

SmudgeyDoodle · 11/01/2009 22:02

We took DD swimming last week (at 9 weeks) and she loved it. You just need a swim nappy but agree liyyle cossies are cute. You want it to be warm so good idea to find out how warm your local pool is. I think it's supposed to be at least 30 degrees but that might be absolute ruubish
Smiles and chats galore which is really good and I think she sings too. Hope everyone has a good week. I think we've got lots of things on so we'll be busy.

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/01/2009 22:13

Just a swim nappy and swim shorts (hand me down, but brand new with tags still on!) for ds. I have got a bright pink wetsuit that was dd's (can't remember if age 0-1 or 1-2), but I forgot to take it.

Poor ds is really suffering with his teeth. He was so dribbly today that I had to put a bib on him, and half an hour after he went to bed this evening he was up again screaming the place down. I tried to settle him and failed. Dh tried to settle him and failed. Eventually he came back downstairs, had calpol, a quick bit of boob to keep him calm whilst the calpol took effect, a cuddle, a chew on a teether (lucky that we'd bought one today!), some bonjela, and then was reswaddled and dh walked about with him til he went off. That will teach me for being pleased with myself for having both children asleep in bed by 7:30!

OP posts:
Ekka · 11/01/2009 22:40

Honeymoon - our surgery asks you to stay for 10 mins after the jabs (just in case there is a severe reaction (v v rare!) as the nurses there would be trained to deal with it) so I just bf in the waiting room after their jabs. In the swimming pool I use a disposable swim nappy with this over the top and then this wetsuit over the top if we are not in a specially heated pool, otherwise they get cold very quickly.

KSal/CSWS we've put ds on a list for swimming lessons starting in Feb, but he has such dry skin I'm a little nervous. The poor boy is really suffering at the moment. I'll have to take him back to the doctors to see if they can suggest any better creams for him. We tried olive oil & sunflower oil and both seemed to make his skin worse, so we're using oilatum/diprobase/unguentum creams. Does anyone have any other ideas?

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/01/2009 22:46

That's the same wetsuit as we have Ekka.

No idea re dry skin, but it could just be down to the weather at the moment, as dd currently has very dry skin, esp on her face, and has never really had a problem before.

OP posts:
star6 · 12/01/2009 05:26

Ekka
Boots "Aqueous Cream B.P" it's lanolin free (which often causes a lot of skin probs - lanolin) and fragrance free... it's great. Rub a bit on his exposed skin before going out into the cold (like on his cheeks) it does wonders. Oilatum Jr is also fantastic. From my experience.

Aubergenie · 12/01/2009 08:09

Honeymoon - Both times I've been for jabs the nurse suggested I give ds a quick feed there and then to calm him down, then she has found me a nice warm room to feed him in before we head home. Both times he calmed down very quickly as soon as he was on the boob!

I'm interested in all this talk of swimming as I was just saying to dp this weekend that I'd really like to take ds swimming but I'm feeling a bit nervous to do it on my own.

I've been feeling a bit low over the last few days. Nothing serious, just fed up. DP and I are bickering a lot because we're both tired and I hate myself for it, but for some reason can't quite stop!! Anyway, to cheer myself up, I'm going to attempt to go to a mother and baby screening at the cinema. Our local one doesn't do them, so this is a bit of a trek but I fancy a treat.

Have a good day everyone!

hedgepig · 12/01/2009 09:13

morning all.
Ekka we went through a few creams with ds1 and ended up with double base which seemed to help, and put some stuff in the bath that the Dr gave us too. I was getting very frustrated with the doctor cos his dry skin never cleared up but thy finally explained that the creams wouldn't stop it totally that would come with age as the skin got better at making its own oils, and in fact now he is 5 his skin is fine.

CSWS O is chewing his hands like mad too I thought it was early but seems not. I must go and get some bonjella.

there are a couple of new photos on my profile.

Honeymoonmummy · 12/01/2009 09:36

So if we're in the warmer baby pool I dont need the wetsuit? Seems a lot of money to spend on wetsuit if she hates it. Altho I'm hopeful she likes it, its been the one think from birth that she hasn't cried for is during her bath.

Aubergenie I know the feeling. I was so nasty to DH yesterday cos I was just exhausted. He'd spent the weekend tidying the house too!!
