jet - glad DH's job is safe for the moment! Phew! Sorry you've had a bad experience at Clarks. I was uber impressed with the young girl that served me when we got Ellie's shoes. She seemed to (impressively) know her stuff!

LOM - glad T had nothing more serious than a nosebleed. All that blood must have been scarey tho!!

Febes · 15/02/2009 19:52

Quick question- do you guys brush your DCs teeth? I have given Anabel a toothbrush to play with in the bath and sometimes give them a quick brush in the bath but not regularly. Am I minging???

littleoldme · 15/02/2009 20:52

Febes - You are not minging ! I do brush DS teeth every night and am quite neurotic about it. This is because we have a condition in our family where varying numbers of second teeth don't come through. This means I have five false teeth, two gaps and STILL have a couple of milk teeth. I figure if he still might have baby teeth at 33 then I'd better take care of them.

RG - It was very scary, especially as I was wearing a new cream jumper at the time

Jet - Glad all is ok with DH's job. Hope you can all relax about things abit more now.

Loopy -Sod it - have another baby At least they don't shed hair everywhere like dogs.

Febes, yes i clean DD's teeth. We have a routine where we take her upstairs, put her PJs on and then go into the bathroom to brush her teeth. Teeth brushing just involves me putting a smidge of baby toothpaste on her toothbrush and then letting her chew it for a bit. I then try and have a quick scrub of her teeth but generally i dont get much of a look in. The way i see it is that atm she's too young to really do them properly anyway, plus they're going to fall out in a few years anyway lol (well, normally anyway!).

When she's old enough to know why teeth cleaning is important, i'll make sure she does it uber properly.

Febes · 16/02/2009 09:01

Oh dear I better get a bit better at my routines and brush properly. there are kids at school in nursery and reception with rotten teeth I will be mortified if Anabel ever had rotten teeth. She loves it when I brush mine- thinks its harilious so maybe I'll brush hers at the same time in the morning as me and then in the bath at night.

Greedygirl · 17/02/2009 11:17

Hi guys
Febes - Adam was never really interested in brushing his teeth until we did it at the same time. I have sparkling teeth these days! On a night time he will only brush them for a nano-second before demanding a feed!

Loopy - it is difficult re the breastfeeding. I wish Adam was only feeding 2-3 times a day! He seems to be regressing daily at the mo. I think he seems to need the extra comfort, he is hardly eating at the moment which I put down to teething (everything is down to teething in this house!) and he has just learnt to walk so going through big leaps in his life. I am tearing my hair out about it now, he now pats my chest and shouts "tea"! although when he says it too fast tea-tea sounds like titty . Bit of a love/hate relationship with it at the mo - how about you?

LOM - poor T! And poor you. Adam knocked his mouth last night and a load of blood spurted out and I thought "here we go" but it stopped straight away. Pre-dinner drinks are the way forward!

Jet - great news about your DH's job, what a relief.

RGPargy · 17/02/2009 20:33

I was getting Ellie ready for bed and said to her "shall we clean your teeth?" and then did the baby sign for teeth cleaning. She then said "teeth" (well, it was more like "tee") and pointed to her teeth!! Clever girl!

Febes · 17/02/2009 21:35

I have helped Anabel brush her teeth for the past 4 days now and she likes it I think the tooth paste is yummy. Not minging any more.

jetgirl · 17/02/2009 22:26

Hi all!

LOM - how scary, I hate it when children bleed, it always freaks me out. Glad T's ok.

Loopy - I've tried John Lewis too, the girl in there seemed very inexperienced, and their range of start-rite shoes was pitiful. Fortunately we have a very good independent shoe-shop in Southampton used by my friends with wide-footed children! William is still feeding at least twice a day, as well as night feeds, but he's eating well too. I think it's a comfort/habit thing more and more though, as at nursery he doesn't miss it at all. However, I'm happy to continue for now, but I'm thinking if I drop the day feeds altogether he might forget about the night feeds - or is that wishful thinking?

Febes - we clean William's teeth, he loves the taste of toothpaste! My FIL is a retired dentist so I couldn't not clean them could I?! They clean them at nursery after lunch too, DD came home and told us how to do it properly after they had a dental health nurse in

Greedy - our boys are following the same pattern again! William managed a new word today - boob! Mind you DD said booby before she said mummy for the first time, so they both obviously appreciated bf!

RG - Ellie's vocabulary is so impressive, you must be a very proud mummy

The in-laws decided to pay us a visit this weekend, Fri- Sat and stayed till about 9pm on Saturday after insisting on staying for dinner, knocking mine and DH's plans for a romantic meal on the head. I was going to cook a nice meal once the kids were in bed, but they did not get the hint so we ended up all having fish and chips!
It's half-term - yay, so I had yesterday to myself and went shopping. I came back with 3 tops, a skirt and a scarf, I never usually splurge on myself that much, but it was nice to spruce up my wardrobe a bit. Today I met up with some colleagues who also have little ones for an indoor picnic which was a lot of fun. DD really enjoyed playing with her friend from nursery, whose mum I work with, and met another colleague's daughter who's the same age. They all played so nicely together. William was the only boy, there's obviously something in the Southampton water producing all these girls!

Just took anabel to the docs as she has waxy stuff coming out of her ear and she has an infection and is going on antibiotics for a week.
Have your DC been on antibiotics yet?? I feel a bit bad cause she wasn't in pain and I wasn't worried at all and was going to go tomorrow but when I rang the docs they said to come straight in. I glad I did now.

jetgirl · 19/02/2009 09:06

Febes - William had to have antibiotics last June, he really hated the taste of the medicine! Our doc is usually reluctant to prescribe them, so you know she means it when she does! Hope Anabel is better soon, it's good to know she wasn't in any pain, though it's hard to tell when they're poorly if they're not complaining isn't it?

Febes · 19/02/2009 12:54

Doc said he doesn't like to prescribe antibs but as its the ear better to get it cleared up. She doesn't seem to mind the medicine its banana flavour- smells lovely!!

Febes · 19/02/2009 13:09

I want to find curtains and bits for Anabels room but not sure what to go for as LO will share with her eventually and we don't know if it will be a boy or girl. Do I make girly room and then if we have boy he just has to live with it or do I go with neutral theme such as animals?
Also I have no money so it will be an ebay buy so could be limiting.
Also the window is quite big 120cm wide and 2m drop and most childrens curtain ready made are smaller.
Also want room to be dark when curtains are closed so for that reason I don't really like ikea curtains as you need a black out blind with them.
I'm think a red and yellow colour scheme would be fairly neutral for boy and girl. But we got a cute pink fairy lamp shade so that won't go with red.
We didn't decorate her room in our last house cause we put it on the market when she was 6 weeks old and since we moved we have had her in our while the loft was being converted so I am quite excited about doing up her room nicely. Lo will be with us for a while till sleeping through and then I'll try putting them together as they are pretty close in age and SIL lives with us at the moment and its only a 3 bedroomed house. Anyone have any experience of this? Loopy?

RGPargy · 19/02/2009 14:17

Febes - poor Anabel, hope she's better soon, bless her.

Not sure what to do about the bedroom. Perhaps keep it neutral and then just spruce it up with accessories?? That's what i've done with Ellie's room. Her room is mag with just a pinkish picture on her wall and when she's older i'll be able to put more accessories that she wants in her room. It works well for if/when i am lucky enough to get PG again and if i were to have a boy, we wouldn't have to do up the nursery again (hopefully by then DS will have moved out and Ellie can have his room haha!).

febes - DD and William share a room. We had painted it blue before we considered having children, and didn't bother changing it when DD arrived. She has pink stuff, William has blue stuff. The furniture is all neutral/wood finish. TBH it's usually such a mess that you don't notice the colours! We have a 2 bedroomed house so they have no choice but to share!

Febes · 20/02/2009 13:40

We are painting in magnolia- boring but cheap and easy. Then I will look for some bright curtains of some sort not too girly and go from there. Jet how do you find your dc at night do they disturb each other? Do they nap at the same time? I hope we have LO out of our room by 4 months-ish as we have had Anabel in our room since August now so can't wait to have a bit of a break before LO comes. I can't read at night and DH has to creep round in the dark when he gets up early for work. Not so bad with a newborn as they either sleep on regardless are are awake feeding anyway.

You'd think so wouldn't you?! Truth with me is that i drank loads of vodka last night and ended up not going to bed til 3am. DD then decided to wake me up at 6.30am so i'm REALLLLY tired today!! Mega early night for me tonight - i'm talking by 9pm!!

jetgirl · 22/02/2009 21:17

Yeah, i suppose we have had a bit of a life this weekend! We took the kids to a Roman day at a museum in Winchester yesterday and met some Roman soldiers and Roman ladies. TBH I think I enjoyed it more, being a Latin teacher and all! Today we went to a Farmers' market and visited my parents. William had a lot of fun showing off his walking.

febes - the children don't really disturb each other. In fact, DD sleeps very deeply and never hears William crying, which is good otherwise I don't think she would ever get much sleep. When William wakes at about 4am he comes into our room for a feed and tends to stay the rest of the night.

RG - at the vodka-drinking. It's ages since I've had lots of that, it was my drink of choice at uni!

Febes · 23/02/2009 09:29

I want to drink vodka . 30 weeks on Friday
