Sorry you had a rubbish night Loopy. It's so frustrating when they are like that, isn't it. DD was like it a little this morning when she woke up crying at 5am and then decided to chat and hand me her dummy. This normally means she wants to come out and so off we went back into mummy's bed for snuggling so thankfully it wasn't too bad!

Sorry about your grandad, Jet.

Greedygirl · 04/09/2009 15:22

Hello all
Jetgirl - sorry to hear about your grandad and well done for standing up and saying your bit, must have been very upsetting.

Well my attempts to teach Adam to be caring have gone a bit pear-shaped, I say "ahhh poor teddy" when they fall over and now he kicks them in the face and says "ahhhhhhhhhhh!". Not moo cow though, he is the favoured one.

RGPargy · 04/09/2009 15:57

lol Greedy!!!!! What a tinker!!

jetgirl · 05/09/2009 20:02

Thanks for the sympathy messages, they are much appreciated

Loopy - William has had a couple of nights like that too, the worst being Wednesday ight which of course the evening before the first day of term for me! thank goodness it was an Inset day as I would not have been able to teach coherently.

Greedy - Adam sounds very amusing William can be caring at times, but does enjoy throwing things at people. Usually lego bricks or toy cars! he loves waving at aeroplanes when they fly over our house and says 'bye bye' every time, very cute!

Febes · 06/09/2009 19:34

Hi everyone. Its been ages since I have written but I have been lurking.

Jet So sorry about your grandad. My Nana died last year and I miss her lots .

Loopy DD has also started to wake in the night for the last week or so which is a shock as she hasn't done that for more than 6 months. I think its teeth. We also use an amber necklace so I must get another on for DS. DD still grinds her teeth I should ignore her so she doesn't get a reaction but I hate it.

I am looking after my friends boy this week so will have two 22 month olds and one 4 month old I hope I survive.

Loopy - her first day isn't until 14th September! The school has yr 1 and 2 children in for the first week while the reception teachers do home visits; ours is on Tuesday. It's a nice idea I think as the teacher gets a little one to one time with all her new pupils, in a familiar setting for the children. Apparently it's very useful for those who are very nervous. Hope your DD's first day goes well!

Febes - nice to hear from you. Have fun with 3 kids!!

I've just found out my threshold appplication at work was successful which means payrise - yay! I am so chuffed

Greedygirl · 07/09/2009 19:47

Jet - congrats on the payrise! Always useful. I might be doing a spot of work for the local uni which pays v.well but I am a bit nervous about it. This might be the point that I get found out to be a complete idiot! Adam also enjoys lobbing the odd toy, he likes to keep everyone on their toes. They are cute but dangerous at this age!

Febes - I bet you'll have a ball with 3! Ahh a 4 month old. I had a chat with a 4 month old recently and can't remember Adam being so alert at that age.

Well first proper day back with students and everything and I have survived in spite of having no access to any of my files (system down for over a week now!) and no-one to teach my group on Mondays (and a boss who worked at home today). LOM I bet you miss all this?! Like a hole in the head. Looking forward to my nightly tipple!

RGPargy · 07/09/2009 21:11

Evening everyone!

Febes - enjoy your week with 3 kids! If the two older ones are good friends, you might be lucky and have a good/easy week. ;)

Jet - well done on the payrise!

Greedy - well done on surviving your first day back!

I had my friend over today who brought her little girl called Kate over. DD and the girl got on really well (after a couple of hours of not wanting to share lol) and it was lovely to see DD so happily playing in the garden with a little playmate. She had a ball!

While she was out in the garden, she brought her drawing board out with her (the magnetic type, a la etch a sketch but with a pen type thing). Anyway, she often asks me to draw daddy or nanna and i have to draw a simple round circle with two eyes and a smiley mouth a bit of hair. So today i'd done a couple of times when she asked and then when she was out in the garden, she drew two little circles and a smiley mouth and said "Kate!" I must say i was very and just had to take a picture of it! haha! Is this normal for a 21 month old to draw a face or am i being rather precious?!

Febes · 07/09/2009 21:27

Thanks for all the good wishes. It went really well today. They are great friends and play really well. Its quite knackering though so I'm having a gin to recoop .

RG I am soo impressed that DD drew a face. My DD can scribble and thats about it I feel bad as I get fed up with the mess that paint etc make. I want to get her a drawing board for her birthday.

Jet- well done on threshold. I got mine just before I went on Mat leave with DD 2 years ago. It makes a huge difference!!

RGPargy · 07/09/2009 21:42

Febes - Mine is an Asda special for about £3. ;)

She might be able to draw a face (fluke?) but i haven't done any painting with her yet . The creche did some with her once when she was upset and still settling in but that's it. She has done one painting in her life. Bad mummy

I keep meaning to buy her a little table and chairs so that she can draw and paint on that, i just haven't got round to it yet!

Febes · 08/09/2009 08:39

We have little chairs but need a little table. Wow I'll have to have a look at asda. My old childminder was great at doing arty things with Anabel but we have only painted once since she's been with me and I've let her loose with the crayons once or twice- she drew on the lounge door so I'm a little reluctant now.
I have got playdough for the kids to play with today and I got loads of cookie cutters in fun shapes so hopefully they will enjoy that.
Other than that they will just be running wide free playing today.

RGPargy · 08/09/2009 20:43

Oh we have crayons too but DD accidentally over ran the paper and ended up drawing on the beige carpet! Stupid mummy for insisting on a light coloured carpet!!!

Febes · 08/09/2009 21:14

Dark beige carpet upstairs, wooden floors and dark red morrocan rug downstair- clever huh?

jetgirl · 09/09/2009 08:52

I too have a cream carpet downstairs, well it used to be cream, it's sort of a grey colour now! We also have a wooden floor in the dining room which is nice and easy to clean. baby wipes clean off practically anything!

I have lost my voice already this term, I woke up this morning totally unable to speak! I've never lost it this early in the year before but hopefully it'll sort itself out before Open Evening in a couple of weeks.

RG - you clearly have an artist in the making! William just scribbles madly. DD has always loved drawing and I have taken photos of the things she's drawn on her magnetic board. She always seems to do her best stuff on that!

Greedygirl · 09/09/2009 19:51

More cream carpets here! Look awful when the sun shines on them.

RG - wow that is advanced I think! I have never done painting at home with Adam . But I am starting to take him to messy play sessions this term. He loves colouring and I quite like it too!

Jet - hope your voice has returned. I am enjoying having learners again, they are very funny.

DH has been rather lovely and given me some money for some new clothes and I have discovered the joys of H & M so I have made the money go quite far!

littleoldme · 10/09/2009 14:44

Rg - Clever Ellie !

Greedy - well done on your shopping trip. H and M can be fab.

I bought block paints for T which was a big mistake as he just wanted to drink the water. We do lots of play doh and crayons but we are V strict about stuff staying on his table. Obviously my son listens to me at all times that's why theres biro scrawls all over the coffee table in the lounge.

Well things have been mixed here; last Friday I was at a struck by some weird energy sapping bug. I was at a freinds house and had to come home - I felt like I could hardly move. So on Sat, my effing birthday, DH took T to his mum's for the day and I slept. Then DH got home T's nappy wasn't on properly so he, and the car seat, were soaked AND the washing machine broke in spectacular style flooding the utilty and scaring me out of my wits. I hope this is not a taste of what being 34 is going to bring.

Hope the start of term is going ok for all you teacher types.
Jet - You go easy on that voice !

Loopy Hope DD has calmed down and that the shoes weren'tt too expensive.

RGPargy · 10/09/2009 14:52

Febes - very clever on the carpet front!

Jet - hope you get your voice back soon! It must be very frustrating when you're trying to yell talk to your children but cant be heard!

Greedy - well done on getting money from DH! I think i could do with a cash injection for new clothes but we are trying to save for a new car atm so any spare cash will just get put in car pot. Oh well, maybe in a couple of months i can stop looking like a tramp smarten up a bit.

LOM - sorry you weren't well, especially on your birthday! Hope you feel better now. BTW, do you still see Choudru? It's been so long since she's been here i cannot remember what she changed her name too . If you do see her, tell her i said hello!

littleoldme · 10/09/2009 19:38

RG - I have seen Choudru a couple of times but she's moved away. We've lost touch a bit but I do chat on facebook sometimes so I'll send your best.

RGPargy · 11/09/2009 12:56

Thanx LOM. I've just added her on FB. Hope she doesn't think i'm a stalker!!

RGPargy · 14/09/2009 21:51

Just bookmarking ladies!

jetgirl · 15/09/2009 13:32

DD had a brilliant first day at school. She went in without any fuss at all and was just as enthusiastic today. I can't believe how grown up she seems now!

How's your DD getting on Loopy?

My voice has returned now, which is good in my line of work! Hot lemon and honey keeps me going whenever I get a sore throat.

A friend is going on mat leave on Friday so I am going present shopping tomorrow, it's always fun buying for newborns, especially when your own aren't so tiny any more!

awww first days at school!! I remember it well (sort of!) from when DS was at school

Loopy - sounds like you have your work cut out for you tho with DD1! I think i would have left home by now!

We are not really sure what car to go for at the moment It's a toss up between nice boring sensible Ford Focus 2.0 Ghia or a more flashy swish BMW 3 or 5 series. I'd even consider a Golf GTI purely because they have ISOfix!! The thing about the Focus is that is a bog standard family car so it's nothing special to look at, plus every other car on the road is a Focus. The thing with a BMW is that they tend to go on and on forever, which is great from our point of view, although we wont be putting a huge amount of miles on the clock as we would only use it for local trips etc. But then what about DD potentially spoiling the interior of the BMW with a spilled drink/sticky sweet/wee/poo etc etc? Plus BMWs are a little gangster-ish aren't they?! haha!!

Also, with a Focus we would get a newer car for our money but BMWs hold their price a bit better so we would only be able to afford one that is probably about 10 years old or just under.

I just dont know what to do really!

What should we do? Do we go for the sensible family car or the sensible gangsta car, or the Golf with ISOfix?!!!
