Sponge, sending sympathies to you and Alex!

Tea was a bit of a disaster tonight - Esther hardly ate anything again so I will probably be up 2 or 3 times in the night again to feed her . They totally kicked off during tea, I think cos they were tired (they sometimes don't need their afternoon nap now and didn't have one today). So I put space priates on on Cbeebies and they were mesmorised... so I had a little shut-eye on the couch! I have been so spoiled by them both sleeping through that I am struggling! I think it is seven days now that I have had to get up more than once in the night. I am knackered. And have made the mistake of cracking open the beers tonight so will not only be up half the night but will be slightly hungover too!

Feeling good though (beer does that to you!) It will all end in tears

NoRoomAtThePenguin · 18/12/2008 20:49

Hi everyone. Sorry I've been lurking but not posting for a while. Trying to avoid getting worked up about going back to work tomorrow...

DH at his Christmas Ball tonight so I don't expect any help if Ryder wakes up. It's likely he will too as he's full of cold. He's in his cot right now, but not asleep. Please, please, please let me have sleep tonight so I'm not a complete mess tomorrow.

Right - off to ring a friend so they can calm me down...

NoRoomAtThePenguin · 18/12/2008 20:51

Sorry - I know that was an incredibly ego centric post, I will catch up with everyone else's news soon - when the face leaking stops. So probably not tonight!

katyjo · 18/12/2008 21:05

penquin It will be fine, I hated going back to work, but I actually really enjoyed it once I was there (felt normal again).

sponge Hope A better soon, poor little mite.

Neenz Hope the night isn't too bad.

Iron I didn't give H vitamin supplements and he was absolutely fine. The way I understand bf is, as the baby feeds less often the bf changes to account for them getting food from other sources, so maybe more of a drink.
Its very clever, not the magic 6 months that makes bm change but the babies needs, so in theory should always provide what baby needs.

Whinegums I hope everything is ok, is your dh away at the mo? Let me know if anything I can do, I'll have to go to silverburn over the next few days, so can meet up if you want some adult company.

katyjo · 18/12/2008 21:09

Penquin I meant, hope your ok but it will be fine - sorry!

Amberc · 18/12/2008 21:32

PP You will be absolutely fine don't worry. The first day back is usually catch up and reacquainting yourself with stuff so you have the weekend to gear up to start properly on Monday when you've had a rest - make sure blokey lets you have a good sleep.

DreamingOfMincePiesInAustria · 19/12/2008 09:58

Morning all

Hope you're OK Penguin

Busy , busy here

Rolf · 19/12/2008 10:03

PP - good luck at work today

Good luck to Olivia Sponge - hope A is feeling better, poor little boy. If he can't keep formula down maybe try boiled, cooled water? Hydration and cuddles (for both of you!)

Allnew - hope the tonsils are feeling better soon. DH had it last Xmas and it was horrid for him (and the rest of us)

DS1 is 9 today! I can't believe that with 9 years' parenting experience I still feel so clueless! DD1 wound him up by singing Happy Birthday to DS2

neenztwinz · 19/12/2008 11:52

LOL Rolf

Hope everything goes ok at work PP.

I went back to bed this morning when the DTs had their 9-10 nap - it was great. Got a busy weekend... going to Bicester for my nephew's first birthday party so with Esther waking in the night I needed to catch up on some sleep. She didn't do too bad last night, just woke at 2.30 and again she was only chatting to herself but she is so loud it keeps me awake, so just fed her and she went back to sleep. I think Theo is waking out of habit too at about 11pm and I just feed him too to get him back to sleep. When they're over their colds I'll decide whether I want to go down boiled water/cc route to cut it out.

Has anyone else with the leapfrog activity station find that the microphone sings ALL the time - even when the baby is not even in it? I have to switch mine off cos it goes 'sing it, baby' at me constantly!

DingDongAlipalisOnAHigh · 19/12/2008 11:57

Plane journey yesterday went well. A bit of squwarking mid flight and then went to sleep until after we had landed. Neenz - we have only flown to Teeside to see the PILs. 45 mins in the plane sounded preferable to 5+ hours in the car.

Amber - great news about the sleep. Am so . Bad night last night, and PILs lovely ancient labrador decided to wake up a couple of times too and needed attention. In the end FIL decided to let him CIO (or should that be woof it out?). Sympathy and empathy to others with bad nights too. Neenz hope you are feeling ok.

Sent PP a text to say good luck. She wrote back to say that being at work is not as bad as the anticipation, so it is ok so far.

neenztwinz · 19/12/2008 12:17

Good to hear PP is getting on OK.

Ali, yeah i thought that was what you were doing. Sounds very sensible!

Katyjo, meant to say before that what you say about bm makes perfect sense. The human body is a very clever thing!

What does everyone do when out and about with purees? When I met Essie on Wed I took a plastic tub of sweet potato/parsnip etc thinking I could sit it in hot water and it would warm up. Loads of people have said they do this. But it didn't warm up at all! What am I doing wrong? Would a glass jar be better?

goingfor3 · 19/12/2008 12:41

Sponge , I hope Alex is feeling better today.

Neenz I sometimes heat food until it's really quite hot and then put it in an insulated lunchbag. It works for us as DS doesn't mind room temp food.

Your leapstation sounds broken because mine doesn't do that, it only sings if pulled in a certain direction.

jingleallnewjinglebells · 19/12/2008 14:19

thanks rolf, feeling teeny bit better today

PP hope things ok at work

neenz I'm in Manchester. Would love to meet up some time in Jan maybe?

sponge hope Alex is feeling better

Sleeping situation getting no better here. We've tried giving ff a couple of times but A will only take max 4oz in any one go. I think the problem is that he has got into the habit of bf snacking, even though I offer him both sides each time.

bitofasnowqueen · 19/12/2008 14:23

busy her too.

*Neenz can you get the microphone off? Sounds faulty to me too!

Hope all ok Penguin

Sponge - how is Alex today? Any news from Josey re Olivia? PP - hope all went well today.

Didn't have such a good night last night but still brilliant compared to what it was. Luke ate food again at nursery today. Have bought more cheese based things to see if he likes that. So much for me making stuff. Would like to but I want him to actually eat food before I make the effort to do it. They got Luke to eat pureed veg by putting gravy on it. He obviously does not have a sweet tooth at all. Neither do I so maybe that's where he gets it from.

goingfor3 · 19/12/2008 16:38

Amber DS is the same. He would rather have a bowl of spinach than a banana!

neenztwinz · 19/12/2008 18:10

Yeah, activity station is prob broken . Everything else works OK on it.

I went back to bed AGAIN during the twins' lunch nap. Can't cope with these nights of broken sleep. Esther has eaten well today so hopefully she will sleep tonight!

So G43, how long does it stay at a bearable temp for? I think I will try that tomorrow cos feeding them at a motorway services on way to Bicester about two hours after setting off. Think it will still be hot then? We have an insulated bag.

Allnew, where in Manchester? I grew up in a town just outside Rochdale. And I am a Blue!

jingleallnewjinglebells · 19/12/2008 18:54

neenz I'm on south manchester, just about 3 miles from the centre. Didn't grow up here though, I'm from NI

spongebrainbigpants · 19/12/2008 19:10

PP, hope work went well today. I hear it wasn't as bad as you thought it would be, which is great . How did Mr Penguin get on with being a SAHD? Did the calpol come out again?!

Thanks for all the good wishes for Mini Sponge (hmm, that doesn't sound as good as babypearls but it could catch on! In fact it sounds like something Mr Kipling makes!). Anyway, Alex had a 7pm feed last night which he threw up in his sleep at about 10pm. We changed his bedding and clothes and he slept all the way through that. His nappy was completely dry at this point which concerned me, so dh gave him a dream feed of water at about 11pm.

He then woke twice in the night which dh dealt with - apparently I just nudged dh and said "go and sort Alex out" and then turned over and went back to sleep . He woke at 2am and 4am and I honestly don't even remember waking up. I felt so bad when dh told me this morning - so much for being so worried I wouldn't sleep .

A then slept through til 8.30am, when I brought him into our bed and he fell asleep again until 10am. He kept his bottles down this morning but was sick again at 5pm and then had explosive diarrhea just before bathtime (all over the bathroom carpet - what idiot puts carpets in their bathroom?!!).

He's now in his cot but still grumbling. I've told dh I'll do the night waking tonight - but he may have to kick me!

Anyway, better go - hope you are all well!

Amberc · 19/12/2008 19:23

Oh poor Alex - I hope it goes away as quickly as it came.

hollyivypoppy34 · 19/12/2008 22:18

hi quick post to mark my place - sponge, neenz and all others with poorly babies - josey hope things went ok with oli today

NoRoomAtThePenguin · 19/12/2008 22:20

Thank you everyone - it all went ok at work today. And Ryder looked after Mr Penguin very well.

Looking forward to catching up with your posts this weekend.

Essie3 · 19/12/2008 22:25

Evening all! Off to London again tomorrow - unlike Ali flying is not an option so it's a six hour drive for us! Iestyn does quite well, though. We've started using the car seat rather than the carrycot (with safety attachments).
He's been lovely and happy all day, but possibly because I've not been feeling awful! HV came yesterday, and he's no longer 8th centile but has slid off the chart. He's 13.5, which at six months is rather pathetic! He doesn't look too skinny though, and it might be becuase he's quite active. I need to feed him lots though, but that's not been astounding. However, today, yaay, he ate yoghurt for me! Quite a bit too - half a pot of the Rachel's baby yoghurt, and he was opening his mouth for the spoon as well. That was 11.30, and apart from gnawing on a cooked carrot without eating or swallowing any, he refused all other food.

Sponge sorry to hear Alex (or Mr Kipling?) is still being sick. But he's ok in himself? Re: carpets in bathrooms, well, my (now pregnant) friend keeps reminding me that when I discovered I was having a boy, which was quite a shock, I wailed to her that I'd never be able to have a carpet in my bathroom ever again! Having said that, I got poo on Iestyn's bedroom carpet this morning - it doesn't shift. (It was IESTYN's, everyone!)

Can't remember what else. Neenz, will look out for you at service stations tomorrow - we'll be heading in the same direction! Oh, on the heating - I'd try boiling water. It surely can't heat cold food to boiling temperature, right? But it might warm it up. Moto service stations have microwaves.
And I spend too long at service stations clearly...

Too tired to post - hello again to all, sympathies to those with traumas. Neenz you can buy food warmers. Fisher price do one I think.
